Hand Me Sounds is a music history podcast that explores the depths of genre and creativity through thematic analysis of cover songs, interpolated lyrics, musical homage, sampling, influence, idea exchange, and more from the framing of a consignment store run by store manager, and host, Shi.City. Each episode spotlights a targeted topic, features thoughtful historical commentary and aims to expand the average music fan’s mind and appreciation for popular art. Musical history is uncovered by going through the racks and bins of cultures past to reveal the hidden, most often times Black and feminist histories behind some of the most enduring songs of all time. Music, like second-hand clothing, can stitch unexpected knots between generations, at Hand Me Sounds we’re here to show how music history and pop culture fit together seamlessly.
