Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is he said av Ho with Aeric Winter and
Rosalind fantas.

Speaker 2 (00:07):
Hi.

Speaker 3 (00:08):
Everybody, welcome to a special episode of he said Adeo
because there is no Angio on this podcast, he said,
he said with Richard T.

Speaker 4 (00:18):
Jones.

Speaker 1 (00:19):
That's right, it's about time. It's about time. America's about time.

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Dressed up in cop uniforms for this special rookie lunch
with the rookies. We're on a late lunch here on set.
Richard's filling in for Roslyn. Hey, ros your mischief. So
rich first of all, before we jump into even just
some of our rookie talk, I want some of the
listeners to understand and know what your journey's been like
coming an actor. Was it always your passion to be

(00:43):
an actor? First of all, this guy was like an
incredible football player. But was it your passion to be
an actor or a footballer?

Speaker 1 (00:50):
No, growing up, I won't always wanted to play football
until I got into a high school. After high school,
I kind of the love of the game kind of
fell away. So I was kind of just wandering the
earth like a bag of mond and I figured that
I would go to college and become a lawyer. So yeah,
So I went. I went to Tuskegee, the True and

(01:13):
number one HBC. Anyway, Uh So I went to Tuskegee.
And what's funny is I was I was a terrible
student by the way, I would have never made a
good lawyer. And I liked the party and which I
don't you know suggest.

Speaker 4 (01:30):
And I had straight d's.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
I wanted to get kicked out of the university.

Speaker 4 (01:37):
So I just start taking electives and one of them
wasn't acting one.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Yeah, and I figured how easy could it be to
be like, say, my hologues and stuff like that. And
I got into class, never really paid attention, but the
teacher saw something in it, and he said, hey, man,
I think you'd be pretty good at this. You know,
we have a playhouse that I would like you to
come and we're doing the I said, we have a playoffs.

Speaker 4 (02:01):
Like I didn't even know there was a playoffs.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
And the play was raising it in the Sun. And
from that point on, I crossed the bug in my life.
And then you moved to LA at that point, and
then I was, you know, I was from l A,
So then I'm with Then I moved back to LA
and uh and started pursuing it for wow.

Speaker 3 (02:22):
So then when you first jove in thinking this would
be so easy to be an actor, that first job
come right away. Because we get a lot of questions
from listeners about I wanted an actor? What's the journey?
Like how difficult we talked about this. How was it
for you to get the first first get out the gate?

Speaker 1 (02:39):
Yeah, it was like once I did the play, I
moved to Atlanta for a short extint because my dad
lived there and audition at the Line's Theater. Got a
play right away, So it was like the l A
commercials and it kind of started happening and then as
it goes, it'll be for so long. Yeah, right, so

(03:03):
it did. It always plit to somewhere. So but yeah,
you know, it kind of started fast for me. You know,
I would go to acting classes and they'd be like,
oh man, you know I've been doing this for teen years.
Fifteen years, Like oh yeah, like pretty much.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
What was the.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Project that you think changed the trajectory of your career?

Speaker 4 (03:22):
Do you remember?

Speaker 3 (03:22):
I mean I always remember mind gave the trajectory goes
up and goes it's all like limited trajectories. But like,
what was the one where were like, I'm making it.

Speaker 4 (03:32):
It's a couple, you know I did. I did.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
This is how blessed my life has been. You know,
I went in for one of the kids and What's
Love Got to do it? So it can turns out
now my role that I got, I got Michael, one
of the kids, the last kid, because I was very young,
but I was tall. Okay, So when we got to
the set, uh, the director he was he brought us

(03:56):
all in and wait a minute, Okay, this doesn't look
right because he's the tallest, but he's playing the youngest son.
He said, all right, go back to your trailers, and
then he called me in personally and he made me
read for the eldest son. Now the eldest sons wanted
the head of the line been all right, so he said.

Speaker 4 (04:13):
You're wonderful.

Speaker 1 (04:14):
Boom, so he switched our parts on the Yeah, so
it kind of kind of jumped started my career. Printy
Marshall saw we were doing this. She's doing a movie
called Renaissance Man, and she loved What's Love Got to
Do It? So by the time I audition first, she
was like, I love you, Marshall Grabby, which was you know,

(04:36):
Mark Wahlberg's first thing. It was a bunch of stuff
that it was supposed to propel everybody. Just him, just
hand him, just him.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Doing. I think he's doing all right.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
But but yeah, Mark was great and but you know,
so that was that was a launching point.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
I did this movie called The Horizon.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
That was another launching point, you know, because it was
like a three picture deal and I was going to
get my first million dollars once I got the picture too,
and of course.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
We didn't get the picture.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
So but then I think everything really started to change
with The Wood. I did the movie called The Wood,
and once I started doing The Wood, it just kind
of then my name started really circulating.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Okay, all right, that's what we try to tell a
lot of listeners. As you know, the experience is the
same for everybody. Some people do have not with it
overnight success because there's always a journey to it. But
some people, you know, jump starts a bit quicker and
they ride that high a lot longer. And some people
would stay persistance. If it's what you want to do,
believe in it, and you can't accept no as your answer.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
I believe me yourself, because this business has a lot
of rejection. But it has to fuel you. Yeah, you
know what I'm saying, like, okay, oh but you're gonna
come back one day.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
Now.

Speaker 3 (05:51):
What was it like for all you rookie fans out
because we have a lot of rookie listeners. Yeah, that
was really. What was it like when we first all
united to do this this show the first time?

Speaker 4 (06:02):
Like did you?

Speaker 3 (06:03):
He always was gonna go six seasons, We're gonna do
six and I was like, Rich, come on, man, the
low end, that's the lower and then away did But
what was your impression? What's the impression of me? When
first man we have you knew Roslin?

Speaker 4 (06:20):
That helped ye. So because we're the we're two of.

Speaker 3 (06:23):
The biggest jokes is on set, I will say we talked,
trashed each other constantly. We're always trying to one up
each other. We're always having fun and we it literally
a nonce time party when we're on set. We joked
so much, but we obviously didn't know each other that
we had to get to know each other and then
we went through training.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
That's why I think when we started goofing around, we
realized we had them.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
That's right, that's right. Training and then you remember we
had like a little rap party just das. We went
to uh Nathan's house and we we had the good
saying karaoke. You know, I just think, you know, we
just started mission, you know, mentioned really well early. I
think one of the good things about us is because

(07:05):
we were kind of seasoned by the time we did
this show, we kind of do what to expect. We
kind of like, hey, that's a good time, because we
don't know how long this is going to last. So
I think we came in with a whole different mindset.

Speaker 5 (07:16):
But still none of us really had There was no
major ego, which is unusual still going on the show,
even when you've been kasing for a while.

Speaker 3 (07:23):
It's like you stidn't deal with egos, and we all
kind of put that aside.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
We came in, We had fun. Some of us.

Speaker 3 (07:33):
We're not gonna get it all right, the past that
exists at the moment. We all have a great time
together and get along really well, which is very fortunate.
What would you say, let me ask you this, this
whole TikTok craze that's going on, how much you run it?

Speaker 1 (07:51):
I don't. I'm very old school. I don't get to
take in the talk. I don't get it. You know,
I'm not on it. I just literally I got on
it today to day.

Speaker 4 (08:04):
I did like it. I actually got a page. Man.

Speaker 3 (08:08):
Yes I'm saying like it's like official today. That's a
big deal. What's what your teleraion? Your handle is?

Speaker 1 (08:14):
I have no idea, that's the whole thing. I have
no idea. Just set it up. I would have to
look at it and tell you. But I believe it's
Richard Jones something something. But there's a little video that
says this is the official site of Richard Teacher.

Speaker 4 (08:29):
That's all. That's it.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
What speak a little bit about what your experience has
been playing this character versus other characters?

Speaker 4 (08:38):
What has brought you so much joy? I think being
a part of it. Let me tell you something.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
One thing, I you know, I really believe in our writer,
our creator, Alexi is great. He really captured not only
a voice of a character, but he actually caught a
lot of my sensibilities and in my voice.

Speaker 4 (08:59):
So I like that a lot about the character. But
to be.

Speaker 1 (09:03):
Honest with you, the best, the most exciting part about
this job are these people. I love our cats, I
love our crew, I love our producers. I love our writers,
and I've never in my career was able to say
that about all aspects.

Speaker 3 (09:23):
He's around a lot longer than me, even a lot
of projects.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
So we're so blessed to be here. So I'm so
happy that we are just moving along Man seven. And
I'm telling you, this train is not going to stop,
so we're just gonna helpe. You're right, Look, I hope
you're right.

Speaker 4 (09:43):
So he's so pessimist. I'm telling you, like, this thing
is not going to.

Speaker 1 (09:46):
Stop unless we get tired, unless we get to a point. Well,
you know, he has a lot of things going on,
a lot of things going on. So once they get
the jets and all that kind of stuff, you might
be like, friends has been fun, but I'm chilling.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
Who do you think is the biggest guy? Get asked
this lot the best prankster on set?

Speaker 4 (10:03):
It was between you and Nathan. I think prank.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
Between and what's the biggest prank? Even the bike.

Speaker 4 (10:14):
We had we had a dealer. Nathan had got me
a bike for a motor like electric bike. I guess birthday. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:22):
After I got it, I was like, wow, this is
a great game. And we were zipping around here and
I like just cruising around the lot. And next thing
you know, he's like, I think I'm gonna buy them
for the cast for Christmas. I think, And I said,
they just don't get Richard.

Speaker 4 (10:36):
Oh you guys sitting together on whatever you do.

Speaker 3 (10:42):
Give everybody the bike first, and then pure Richard waits
in the area because no matter what I get, Richards like,
I want to I want to everything I get. If
I get like a snack from the from crafty, because
they baby.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
This man on this ship like he'd be like, yes,
can I get some great and they bring a fame,
they don't just give him the grades.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
They'd be like, I want to fans. I want to fans.

Speaker 3 (11:04):
So Nathan bought every one of the cast these electric
bikes and we were all driving set and Richard.

Speaker 4 (11:09):
Had to take the transport man.

Speaker 3 (11:13):
We all got there and then when he got there,
finally the bike was waiting for him.

Speaker 4 (11:18):
No.

Speaker 1 (11:18):
No, But what's funny is at first when I got there,
everybody had their bikes at their chair, and then my
chair was empty. And I've seen there, like, first of all,
you just got on the show. How did you get
a check? Everybody got everybody got a chair, I mean

(11:39):
a bike, and I'd say for the first time, I
was like.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
I was crich saying it. And then he just fell out.

Speaker 1 (11:48):
It took two he couldn't take it the ways like that,
and he fell out, and then they brought my bike
in and I was like, that was a great one.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
I mean that just that was actually a really good
because I was like, we we climb around probably way
too much. Then we should like we be frowned a
little too much. But I mean we've had challenges. People
don't even see this on camera, which is great. That's
that's how good we are. We had last season there
was a scene where I was with Aaron and we

(12:16):
were we got this explosion happened where these everybody's injured.
We're coming to the hospital and Richard and I were
competing with each other to see who would mess up.
We both had a lot of dialogue to say, so
the whole time during the scene, we're focused on our
lines of what we're doing in the scene, but we're
looking at each other to Mike, I don't have the scribe,
but scaring into each other's souls to see if someone's

(12:37):
gonna break and mess up. First, it was like, oh, well,
you're part of the one where we had the piece
of the fake piece of bread on the floor that
we were kicking around. We had a load for bread
from Lucy's apartment and the whole scene in this hospital room,
we were kicking it with our toes. I don't know

(12:57):
how this even started kicking it with our feet while
people were doing only acting, staying in character, by the way.

Speaker 4 (13:05):
And it was a dramatic scene.

Speaker 1 (13:07):
It was like, you know, it was like somebody was
dying and we were like just kicking this.

Speaker 4 (13:11):
Now. We take our job serious. We do. We take
it very serious, but there are moments where we all
kind of have a little bit. We have a good time.
You know.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
I believe, hey, we can't entertain people if we don't
entertain ourselves.

Speaker 4 (13:23):
So I actually believe in having fun on set.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
And you know, we respect everybody's method, We respect everybody's process,
but we're gonna have a good time somewhere.

Speaker 3 (13:35):
And we're the good thing is like like you said,
we're actually excited. It is a man I actually enjoy
hanging out with outside of work. He says, I never
invite them anywhere, which isn't true.

Speaker 4 (13:43):
We do go out.

Speaker 1 (13:44):
I just don't go to the house. I just like
to come home.

Speaker 3 (13:49):
We got very nice out but it's uh yeah, we're
very fortunate in that regard, so rich after I mean,
like we're hoping the show goes for a long time.

Speaker 5 (13:58):
What are some of your out that you've been in
this business.

Speaker 4 (14:00):
For as long as you have? Okay, let's hope.

Speaker 1 (14:05):
That before we take I hope that that's for I
don't know, He's gonna stay for as long as we
can run.

Speaker 4 (14:13):
But what is.

Speaker 5 (14:15):
The next thing, the next chapter of your life? Do
you want to direct? I know you want to produce?

Speaker 4 (14:20):
What is it?

Speaker 1 (14:20):
What is some things you want to I do want
to move eventually into directing. You know that my goal
is to really take some some projects that I've been
near and dear to my heart and put them on
the screen on the small the small screen, big screen.
I have a few movies in me that I would
like to see done. Do I necessarily have to direct

(14:42):
these movies? No, but you know it's definitely in my wheelhouse.
I want to You don't want to be an actor anymore?
You want to know? You know, to be honest with me,
my heart is I kind of want to run the
studio when it comes out to run a studio. I do,
not the one, but like a small Merrimax or something
like that. I got a small mirror, mad I's gonna

(15:03):
run a little studio. Well, you know I do because
I'm going to give opportunities to young actors and give
opportunities young writers and filmmakers.

Speaker 4 (15:11):
And I love that. Yes, I would love to get
behind the scenes a little bit more. Richard T.

Speaker 5 (15:16):
Jones, Jack of All Trades, be running studio after season ten?

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Look at that? After season? Then now after season look
at that? Look at that.

Speaker 3 (15:33):
So all right, let's dive back in a little bit
about what we do on our downtime, because we people
don't always understand that we are.

Speaker 4 (15:40):
We often have downtime moves.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Pretty does we We're not called into earlier sitting between
scenes were usually work work, but.

Speaker 4 (15:48):
We do have quite to be downtown. Are you at
crafty a lot?

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Go?

Speaker 4 (15:52):
What do you grab and grabbed? What you what you're
going to?

Speaker 5 (15:56):
Where are you laughing?

Speaker 1 (15:58):
Because they have some very good water and I want
I want them jokes. But yeah, I've been going time
to think a lot of wan know right.

Speaker 4 (16:12):
Now it is good. I might go to the trail
mix you do love Trailkiah.

Speaker 3 (16:17):
He has got like four bags of trailing because first everything.

Speaker 5 (16:22):
I understand she does that she brings like her kitchen.

Speaker 4 (16:26):
Yeah, there's all kind of stuff. You remember the first
Who's the messiest chair?

Speaker 1 (16:30):
Though I know you know that is the mess chassis,
But there was the first three years. This new brought
some to the Saturday kind of calling on. Remember the apples,
Oh we used to That was another joke. Jacoby rest

(16:54):
in peace. He was one of our main crafty guys
and and he just passed away last year.

Speaker 5 (16:59):
Yes, I'm amazing guy. Amazing guy.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
He had these apple slices with peanut butter on top
of granola chocolate chips, and he introduced me to this.

Speaker 5 (17:09):
And this is like season one, and I started chouting
on these.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
I'd have two or three a day. These are so
good Shoba to do. And they would be there, go fast.
The crew had grab them such a Jacoby, you gotta
stash me some in the in the Crafty trailer in
the fridge. And so Richard would go over to Crafty
and he's like, damn all the apple sliced covid there
anymore and be like, no, there's no more and then
I'd come in the chair, what is going on?

Speaker 4 (17:38):
And this dude crunching his apple like, oh you know,
I don't know, I'd be chowing.

Speaker 5 (17:43):
He's like this is like this is your coke? What?

Speaker 3 (17:46):
Always have apple slices and I had introduced them to
my special sash. Yeah, that was always saved always. I
was like what. First of all, not only is he
a prance them, but then he is the most stealth outfit,
so he always got It's like he always gets the
information first. He always he got the pillow cushion. We're

(18:07):
like all sitting there and then.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
Eric gets a pillow cushion. I'm like, dude, how the
hell you get a pillow?

Speaker 3 (18:13):
And Richard complains so much that they got him a
pillow cushion, of course, and then our our ads Lauren
renee Austin curls. Lauren keeps him with her hold it
every time we go, when she change locations or whatever.
So she left, she had her pillow case in her car,
gets into a car accident, can only grab one and
grabs my hand. Now Richard with Alvin's cushion and so

(18:35):
mad that she saved mine, And it was like in
the burning car couldn't only save one and Richard got burned.

Speaker 1 (18:42):
But of course, but of course Eric, all right, like
everybody the fan for Eric.

Speaker 3 (18:49):
All right, who do you think? Who do you think
we can make? Break character the easiest on set, the easiest.

Speaker 4 (18:55):
I know that.

Speaker 5 (18:57):
Who breaks characters?

Speaker 4 (18:59):
I would say kid break than you.

Speaker 3 (19:04):
You just give one thing a kid and yeah, all
the time, she.

Speaker 4 (19:09):
Breaks pretty pretty quickly. Then you're a close second.

Speaker 3 (19:12):
You get Richard just like a certain You didn't that
one time you beat me, You didn't at all. But
you give Richard like a look or just anything off camera,
and he's like, stop.

Speaker 1 (19:20):
Stop because he's always given a look or stuffing off
camera every time he's an off camera. Believe me, I'm
working hard, all right because he's sitting there making faces.
Oh please, if I drop a line this guy.

Speaker 4 (19:39):
It keeps it fun though.

Speaker 1 (19:40):
It does look Yeah, he's in the weight room.

Speaker 4 (19:48):
All right.

Speaker 3 (19:48):
Well, we have a big season coming up. What do
you what do you would you like to see unfold?
Obviously we don't know anything. This isn't a spoiler. We
haven't seen anything now, I'll be honest. Beyond episode had
you read it for that? What what do you want
to see happening for surgeon, for Sergeant Gray.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
You know, I get an elevation and promotion anyway. I'm
not going to get to to into the details, but
if you guys just go ahead and look up what
that bar means anyway.

Speaker 4 (20:17):
So what I would like.

Speaker 1 (20:18):
To see, you know, I just you know, I kind
of want to see him more in the background watching
you guys.

Speaker 3 (20:26):
I want to Richard running every episode.

Speaker 1 (20:32):
I think it's for me to be kind of, you know,
at the base, at the station looking at things on monitors. Absolutely,
I want to see Eric running and being his like,
you know, because you want to be an access saw people,
So y'all know that he wants to be an access.

Speaker 3 (20:48):
I can't wait, Sergeant, great work this season and have
you in the streets.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
I want to be behind the desk a little bit more.
I want to be able to yell at him a
little bit more. I got to yell at you a
little bit toward all right, and you enjoyed it too much.

Speaker 4 (21:05):
I love that time. Man. We have too much fun
on this show. Richard.

Speaker 5 (21:09):
Thank you for coming on this episode, he said, he said,
Rookie Lunch edition.

Speaker 4 (21:18):
We made it work, man. We didn't think it worked.
You know we skipped lunch for you man, you did
because you want that season ten. I know what I
know it's here.

Speaker 1 (21:28):
This is doubty Thomas over here, but trust me, we
got a good We're at seven, so.

Speaker 3 (21:34):
Eight, nine, ten, I till be right, eleven, twelve, look
all right until next time.
