Speaker 2 (02:04):
Hello, I'm doctor Andrew Farley with today's episode of the
Heartbeat of Faith podcast. With each episode, we tap into
the heartbeat of God to discover his love and purpose
for us. We've been surveying biblical stories to answer the
question what does it mean to be human? What is

(02:25):
our purpose? Why are we here? What does the Bible
say about our place in the grand scheme of God's story.
Today we look at how God made us with the
capacity to cultivate and create. As we learned in our
last episode, we were originally created in the image of God,

(02:46):
which means we share his attributes just as he is creative,
we're also creative, and many of our biblical sagas show
humanity's capacity to be creative. In Scripture, we witnessed the
ingenuity of Joseph when he built a sustainable infrastructure for
Egypt to get through the famine.

Speaker 3 (03:11):
You should select a wise man among you to take
care of the land. Appoint overseers, and take one fifth
of the produce you gained during the seven good years.
Store the grain and save it. Then when the famine comes,
you will have reserves for your land, so nobody perishes.
Pharaoh's once exhausted face turned bright with hope. He stepped

(03:34):
down from his throne to stand before Joseph. He was
taller than he had imagined. He looked around the room
to his advisers and said, can we find a man
like this who has the spirit of God? He smiled
and looked at Joseph. Since your God has shown you
all this, there is no one else better fit for
the job. You shall be head over all my people,

(03:57):
and they will all obey your command, and me nobody
will be greater. Listen and look, I have set you
as head over all Egypt.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Craftsmanship, political alliances, and attention to detail were all used
by Solomon to build the Temple of God.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Solomon stepped inside the temple to finish the interior. The
entire inside was paneled with fine cedar, The floors were
smooth cypress. The inner sanctuary, the Holy of Holies, was
at the far end of the temple. It was thirty
feet deep, and its walls were carved with immaculate floral designs.
The entire interior was then overlaid with solid gold, and

(04:46):
gold chains protected the entrance. Two fifteen foot terubim were
made of wild olive wood and placed there in the
inner sanctuary. Their wingspan spread across the room. Valiantly.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Palm trees, flowers, and gold filled the hallways, and the
double doors were pure olive wood. Finally, after seven years
of planning, building and refining, the Temple of the Lord
was complete.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
It stood as a beacon of hope and sanctuary to
all who entered Israel.

Speaker 4 (05:19):
Solomon stood in the temple courtyards in awe of the
temple's beauty.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
King David was a songwriter and poet. The Psalms give
us nearly two hundred examples of poetic masterpieces written to
glorify God, Yahweh.

Speaker 5 (05:38):
What is man that you care for him? Or the
son of man that you think of him? Man is
like a breath, His days are like a shadow that
passes away.

Speaker 3 (05:50):
Part your heavens. Yr way and come down.

Speaker 5 (05:54):
Touch the mountains and they will smoke. Throw out lightning
and scatter them. Send out your arrows and route them.
Stretch out your hand from above, rescue me and deliver
me out of great waters, out of the hands of
foreigners whose mouths speak deceit, whose right hand is a

(06:16):
right hand of falsehood. I will sing a new song
to you God, on a ten stringed liar. I will
sing praises to you. You are he who gives salvation
to kings, who rescues David, his servant from the deadly
sword Psalm one forty four three through ten.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Human beings are meant to be creators. Joseph generated an
economy that blessed millions of people. Solomon built a temple
for the nation to worship God. David wrote songs that
would show people the heart of God for thousands of
years to come. You and I are not simply meant

(07:02):
to sit passively and wait for Christ to return. We're
designed to build, craft, create, and cultivate. Will never be
truly satisfied if we aren't allowing God to express his
life in and through us. We're designed to bear the
fruit of God's spirit, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness,

(07:28):
and self control. When we count on the Holy Spirit's
presence within us and we display the light of Christ
by creatively loving those around us, we fulfill our purpose.
There are people to love, songs to write, gardens to plant,
and so many ways to celebrate Christ's life in us.

(07:51):
So what are you waiting for? Be the fragrant aroma
of Jesus to the hurting world around you. Let Christ
paint a beautiful masterpiece on the canvas of your life.
Raise your children to know and express Him. Love and
serve the hurting and less fortunate in your circle. Cultivate

(08:13):
and create in the space God has placed you in
for the glory of Christ and the enrichment of your soul.
