The gifts bestowed by God are as unique as the individuals who receive them. However, one constant remains: the Holy Spirit's unwavering commitment to the glory of Jesus. The Spirit will never work against the name of Jesus or the well-being of His church. Furthermore, the use of these gifts aligns with the Fruits of the Spirit, as described by the Apostle Paul in Galatians 5: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. As we belong to Christ and live by the Spirit, we are called to walk by the Spirit and manifest these qualities in our lives. Our journey with God is part of His grand mission to bring the Kingdom of Heaven to Earth, and He empowers us through His Spirit to be active participants in this divine purpose. In our next episode, we will delve into the concept of the Kingdom of God, exploring whether it's a destination for the afterlife, a concept, or an actual place.

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Hello. I'm doctor Andrew Farley. With today's episode of the
Heartbeat of Faith podcast. We seek to understand God's character
through past stories and scriptures within the Bible. We find
beautiful messages that show us the heart of God. As
we discover more about Him, our faith is enlivened. Today

(02:56):
we continue our deep dive into the Spirit of God.
Who is he, what does the Bible say about him?
And how are we supposed to relate to him. Last episode,
we revisited moments in our story that reminded us of
the Spirit's comforting presence and wise counsel. Today we explore

(03:18):
how He uses each of us uniquely to glorify God
through spiritual gifts. We are each distinct in our personality
and purpose, woven together by God for good works that
He prepared in advance for us. Listen to Paul talk
about God's purpose for each of us personally.

Speaker 3 (03:42):
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus, for
good works which God prepared before that we would walk
in them Ephesians two ten.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
God equips each of us personally. He uses our personalities, talent,
and backgrounds to display the fruit of His Spirit through us.
The Holy Spirit empowers us uniquely to love others and
glorify Christ. He does this by bestowing gifts of the Spirit.

(04:16):
Several places in scripture mention these gifts. When you compile
them together, you end up with over twenty gifts, including prophecy, service, teaching, encouragement, giving, leadership, mercy, wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, miracles, discernment, tongues, interpretation, helps, administration, pastoring, evangelism, hospitality,

(04:48):
and love. Some believers view this list as definitive, while
others see them as just the starting point for how
the Holy Spirit works in those who belonged to him.
We see these unique gifts on display in the New Testament.
For example, we see Peter, an uneducated fishermen, inspire thousands

(05:12):
of people with the gift of teaching.

Speaker 3 (05:18):
People of Israel. Hear my words, Peter shouted, Jesus of
Nazareth did mighty works among you. You saw them with
your own eyes. He was delivered into the hands of
the priests and killed you crucified him. However, God used
him to defeat the sting of death, for Jesus could
not be held by the grave. The crowd became silent

(05:42):
as they listened to the Holy Spirit speak through Peter.
The once angry and foolish fisherman was now preaching in
front of thousands of people.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
Tabitha was renowned in her city for her tender, loving
care for people around her. The Spirit empowered her with
the gift of service.

Speaker 3 (06:06):
Meanwhile, in the siny of Joppa, there was a disciple
by the name of Tabitha. Her devotion to the character
and ministry of Jesus was staggering, and the whole city
was blessed because of her. She cared for the sick
and lonely. She ministered to the broken hearted, and she
did so with joy. She reflected Christ in her city

(06:27):
and set an example for what it meant to follow Christ.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Paul, once hostile toward the growing Church of Jesus, was
empowered by the Spirit with the gift of evangelism.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Stop, Paul yelled. The jailer stumbled forward and was caught
by Silas before he could fall on his blade. Do
not harm yourself, Paul said, we are all here. The
jailer trembled in the arms of Silas. He was bent
over before them, weeping at the fact that they saved
his life. Paul and Silas guided the jailer out of

(07:06):
the prison into the moonlight. There they sat speaking about
the hidden brokenness in the jailer's heart. What must I
do to be saved? The jailer asked, with tears in
his eyes. Paul and Silas smiled. Believe in Jesus and
you will be saved. You and your household will be blessed,
they answered. So the jailer brought them back to his home,

(07:28):
and they preached the gospel to his entire family.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
We also witness some believers displaying multiple gifts at once.
Philip was blessed with the gifts of teaching, healing, and miracles.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Philip was among the scattered disciples. He went into the
city of Samaria to preach the word. He stood up
in the city streets and began to speak of the
history of God. He spoke of God, God's plan for redemption,
and the life of Jesus. As Philip spoke, hundreds of
people gathered to listen to him, as if they all

(08:08):
shared the same ears. Each one of them listened intently
to what Philip said. As the truth went forth like
a coursing river, the spirit of God refreshed the hearts
of the Samaritans. Those who were paralyzed were healed, those
who were oppressed by demons found peace, and those who
were broken felt whole.

Speaker 2 (08:30):
The gifts God gives are unique, and the people he
gives them to are diverse. However, what always remains the
same is the Holy Spirit's commitment to the glory of Jesus.
The Spirit will never testify against the name of Jesus
or work against the good of His Church, and genuine

(08:54):
spiritual gifts will also always be exercised in agreement with
the fruit of the Spirit, which Paul describes in Galatians five.

Speaker 3 (09:06):
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness,
and self control. Against such things there is no law.
Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh with
its passions and lusts. If we live by the spirit,

(09:29):
let's also walk by the spirit. Let's not become conceited,
provoking one another and envying one another Galatians five, twenty
two through twenty six.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
While spiritual gifts are important and unique expressions of God's grace,
let's not forget that the ultimate gift is Christ himself. So,
whether you know your specific spiritual gift or not, rest
assured that you are equipped, whole and blessed beyond measure.

(10:05):
Your identity in Christ is what truly matters. So go forth,
dear believer, and let the love of Christ shine through
you in every interaction, every word, and every deed. As
a believer, you've been blessed with every spiritual blessing in

(10:25):
Christ Jesus. You lack nothing. You're complete. You're a vessel
of God's grace and the world desperately needs to see
his love in action. So embrace your completeness in Him
and let His spirit guide you in all that you do.
You're more than enough because you have Christ himself within you.

(10:49):
In our next episode, we'll discuss the Kingdom of God.
God is on a mission to bring his kingdom to earth,
and he empowers us by his spirit to do just that.
Is the Kingdom of God a place we go to
when we die? Is it an idea or an actual place?

(11:11):
We will explore that and much more next time. Thank
you for listening to the Heartbeat of Faith podcast. If
