Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast. I was talking
with a young lady today that lives on my farm property,

(00:22):
on the land.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
She and her husband. She went to high school with
my daughter Sheila, ten years ago, twelve years ago, and
she said, Mama D. That's what everybody here calls me,
Mamma D or Mamma Delilah. She said, I think the
reason that you're different from other women your generation that
I know, is because you surround yourself with people from

(00:47):
all walks of life, from different cultures, different backgrounds, different ethnicities,
different age groups. And it's true, I am surrounded by
people who are from all different walks of life. If
you saw me, like at my birthday party a year ago,

(01:09):
my youngest daughter, Delilah Junior, threw a surprise party for me,
and you walked in, you would you would be like
shocked to try to figure out whose party it was
if you didn't know me, because nobody there looks like
they fit together, you know what I mean, And yet
we do. We fit together with love, and you're a

(01:32):
part of that. You're a part of that family. You're
a part of that community. You're a part of that
fitting together with love.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
Hi.

Speaker 1 (01:45):
Good evening, you've called DELI La who is on the
phone tonight?

Speaker 4 (01:50):
Hi? Oh my goodness, I don't believe that I've actually
gotten through to you. My name is Caroline O'Brien.

Speaker 5 (01:56):
Welcome aboard.

Speaker 4 (01:58):
I don't have any complaints or woes or anything like that,
but I used to listen to you a long time ago,
for decades, and I just wanted to tell you how
beautiful your voice is. I absolutely love your voice and
the only word I can think of to describe it
as delicious.

Speaker 5 (02:20):
Ah, thank you.

Speaker 4 (02:22):
And I also love the advice that you give to people.
Very wise, very wise. I just like I said, I
just absolutely love your voice. For what that's worth.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Well, I can take no credit for it, that's all
God he put it in my throat years ago. But
I'm glad that he opened up the doors so I
could use it on radio.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
It's just a wonderful station. You really do give good advice.
You know, people have to communicate. You can't not communicate
and think that there's not going to be problems. You
need to communicate with people would your friend or your
boyfriend or spouse or whatever. You know. It applies in

(03:05):
all aspects of life. Communication is very important.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Communication is pretty much the key to everything. It is.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
It really is, whether you're talking about marriages or kids,
or your faith or your community. Communication, effective communication and
being able to share your desires and say these are
my needs, these are my hopes, these are my skills.
How can I use them? That's the key to everything,

(03:35):
isn't it?

Speaker 6 (03:36):
It is?

Speaker 4 (03:37):
And I love the advice you gave someone. Not just
an hour, not just a couple hours, spend a couple
of days and just really sit down and communicate and
go over things. You know, you need to talk this
stuff through. I never happened to have married before, but

(03:59):
I had a couple of good relationships that just didn't
work out. And that's okay. I don't mind being alone.
I'm okay. I'm okay with myself works out all right.
You know, there's an advantage to being I'm fiercely independent.
I had three older, bossy sisters, and I definitely have

(04:20):
a mind of my own, and that's okay too. You know,
sometimes that works out just as well. But thank you
so much for taking my call.

Speaker 5 (04:30):
Thank you God, bless you, honey, Thank you again.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
You too, you too, fine out.

Speaker 1 (04:42):
Hi Eddie, Welcome to the Delilah Sholl who is on
your heart tonight?

Speaker 7 (04:47):
Karen?

Speaker 5 (04:48):
Tell me about Karen.

Speaker 7 (04:49):
Oh, Well, when I really quit drinking and quit going
and barry joints and whatever, I start going to church
and whatever, and I met this beautiful lady named Karen.
And in fact, we met you in Loula about twenty
years ago. You was there for a fundraiser at Saint
Joseph Hospital and we had just gotten married, and we

(05:12):
turned out we was both friends and me and you
were friends of Bill Wys. I had eleven years and
you had seventeen years I think, and we high five.
So that makes you have it about thirty seven years
right now and I have thirty one years. So right
away we have something in common. I didn't know if
you had been married that many times, but I finally
got it right.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
Well, you got me beat by a few, but that's
okay because you got it right and I got it right,
and that's all that matters, yes, ma'am. So if you
had not been practicing your drinking, but maybe had found
sobriety earlier you might not have found Karen, so God
worked it out.

Speaker 7 (05:53):
That's true. I'd probably still be married to my first wife.

Speaker 5 (05:57):
I wouldn't have. I wouldn't have. I wouldn't been married
to my foot. Well he's passed, God rest his soul.

Speaker 7 (06:04):
This Karen is the sweetest person, that is just. Everything
about her is perfect. And I'm old man, and she's
ten years younger than me. But anyway, she loves me.
I love her, and it's just. And life is so good,
clean and sober. Is so good, isn't it?

Speaker 6 (06:20):
Though?

Speaker 7 (06:21):
And people ask me how I'm doing today, I'll say, well,
better I deserve.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
Amen to that. I am living such a much better
life than I deserve.

Speaker 7 (06:30):
If somebody asked me when I come in to AA,
would I expect it? I would have really seated myself
because I didn't expect this kind of life.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Let me find a sweet song for Karen Eddie. Thank
you for Colin, thank you for being in touch after
all these years.

Speaker 7 (06:45):
Well, listen, do you remember it coming to Louisville, Kentucky
and you was in a derby parade? You remember that?

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Oh?

Speaker 5 (06:50):
Of course I do? Are you kidding me?

Speaker 7 (06:53):
Was that about twenty years ago?

Speaker 5 (06:54):
Leave nineteen years ago. Nineteen years ago.

Speaker 7 (06:58):
Okay to picture it, and I think you've here a
grand marshall or you you rode in a prey or
he was a grand marshal one a then other and
you commented about all I'm good looking plaice officers. I
tell it, aren't you?

Speaker 5 (07:14):
Yes you are, yes, you are. Oh my gosh, you
are telling on me. But they were so handsome. Dang.

Speaker 7 (07:21):
Okay, there you'd be good.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Thank you for calling.

Speaker 7 (07:25):
Thanks to you, Bye.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Bye, Gabe.

Speaker 5 (07:36):
Welcome. What can I do for you?

Speaker 6 (07:39):
Twenty four years ago. I came from a small country
called Edustria, which is in East Africa.

Speaker 5 (07:44):
I'm very familiar with Eritrea.

Speaker 6 (07:47):
Yeah, and I sponsored my wife at the time, which
is my girlfriend, which was my girlfriend. She came here
and we got married and we have three great children.
I just want to dedicate a song to my wife
and my kids. My wife is a very loving, very
patient person. She's just gonna go to heaven because she's
dealing with me. I can tell you that right now.

Speaker 5 (08:10):
She's an angel for having put up with you.

Speaker 6 (08:12):
Huh oh, She's an angel. I tell you something.

Speaker 8 (08:15):
Now.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
I have to ask, does she cook really good? Angeta.

Speaker 6 (08:18):
Oh, my goodness, you're great. Yes she does, and I
wish she lives nearby so we can invite you to
in Jerda. But she does a wonderful co in Gerra.
And what, of course the sauce we make is a
good cook. I love.

Speaker 1 (08:33):
I love the sauce you make, especially chicken with the
whole eggs boiled in it.

Speaker 6 (08:38):
Yes, yes, we call it chicken on the troops. So
she does a wonderful jab with that. I tell you, Delaa,
I gave you a new name. I hope you like it.

Speaker 5 (08:47):
You are my night angel, your night angel. Yes, well,
I love that. And what's your wife's name? Mulu m
u l e u mullo?

Speaker 6 (08:57):
Yeah, and I have three wonderful kids.

Speaker 5 (09:00):
What can I play for your mulo?

Speaker 6 (09:02):
Oh, you can play anything you choose, because I'm convinced
you are the master of choosing songs.

Speaker 5 (09:10):
So I am the queen of sappy love songs.

Speaker 6 (09:13):
You are a queen of the love song. So if
you could just choose one for my wife and my kid,
I would love it. Then it'll be great.

Speaker 5 (09:21):
I will do that for you. God bless you, Thank.

Speaker 6 (09:24):
You, de la Da, God bless you too.

Speaker 5 (09:26):
Bye bye, honey, bye, pat Hi, thanks for calling. This
is Delilah.

Speaker 8 (09:37):
How are you.

Speaker 5 (09:38):
I'm good, how are you?

Speaker 8 (09:39):
I have been listening to you and chasing you over
the radio waves since nineteen eighty four, so.

Speaker 5 (09:46):
You've followed me all the places I got fired. Oh,
that's a pathetic That is a pathetic history. You know that.

Speaker 7 (09:55):
You know.

Speaker 8 (09:55):
I used to listen to you. You used to your
radio show, used to put me to sleep during school
nights and stuff. I'd stay up and listen to the
radio all until until I fell asleep, until you went off.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
The air, until I played Close Your Eyes by Edward
Bhaar and slipped off into the darkness.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Yep, yep.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
And then I got fired, and then I got fired,
and then I got fired, and then I got fired
and fired and fired and fired.

Speaker 5 (10:21):
But now I'm not fired.

Speaker 8 (10:23):
Well, when they got when they get rid of you,
that's a bad thing because you have done so much
for so many people throughout the years.

Speaker 3 (10:32):
You know.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
That's what I tell them every time they go to
fire me. I said, you can't fire me, and they
do it anyway. Well, now that we're here back together,
what can I play for you, sweetie?

Speaker 8 (10:44):
I want to dedicate a song to you for all
the good things that you have done in so many
people's lives and for long time friendship.

Speaker 5 (10:55):
And which one do I do I need to hear tonight?

Speaker 8 (10:58):
Your choice, Delilah, Right, I'll.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
Pick a good one. Pat, Thank you for calling, thanks
for following me.

Speaker 8 (11:03):
Around Hey, and I'll keep doing it till you don't
play no more.

Speaker 1 (11:07):
Well, so long as God has breath in my lungs,
I'm going to find a microphone.

Speaker 5 (11:11):
You can bet on that.

Speaker 8 (11:12):
You bet you you have a good night, you too, Thanks, Delilah.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share
more with you each weekday on Hey, It's Delilah.
