Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast. Hey it's Delilah.
It's the most wonderful time of the year. We're going
(00:22):
to be sharing some of your meaningful, funny and timeless
holiday stories and traditions right here all season long. Thanks
for joining me today. Hi Jene, welcome aboard. I'm glad
you found us. Do you have a holiday memory or
a tradition to share with us?
Speaker 2 (00:41):
Actually I do, but it's a little odd. About twenty
two years ago, I had a daycare and I noticed
a lot of the kids that would come didn't have
winter coats, so I would collect them. I would maybe
give maybe two dozen out a year, just free. I
would wash them and then just give them to the people.
I had a terrible accident while I was at work,
(01:03):
and I became disabled, and I was afraid that the
rest of my life I wouldn't have a purpose. And
I kept praying and praying to find an answer what
I was supposed to do with the rest of my life.
An answer always was, You're already doing it. And then
it dawned on me that's what I'm supposed to do.
(01:23):
I'm to continue the code thing, so I give hundreds
and hundreds of the hundreds of coats out. It usually
starts around Christmas and goes till March. And I always
thought I was going to help people and that would
make me feel good. But the truth is the people
help me more than I help them, and all I
(01:44):
do is wash them and give these coats out free.
Speaker 1 (01:47):
So where do you find the codes? Do people bring
them to you? Do you scour?
Speaker 2 (01:52):
I go on Facebook? I think I just joined your page,
and I put flyers out at the businesses, and I
have a tot on my porch. And last year I
gave out eight hundred and forty five coats. The year
before one thousand, four hundred just in our community.
Speaker 1 (02:10):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (02:11):
Right, And if someone would have told me that I
would be doing this for twenty two years, I wouldn't
believe it.
Speaker 1 (02:18):
Well, you keep reaching out, and you keep blessing, and
you keep using those coats to warm people's bodies. And
I'll use this music to hopefully warm their hearts.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Yes, and I loved you know. It's a blessing to
hear what other people are doing too.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Well, you go, stay tuned and I will play a
song for you tonight. God bless you so much, Delilah.
Thank you. I received this letter from Felicia Johnson, remembering
the generosity of others at the holidays. She writes, Dear Delilah,
years ago, when I was young, Christmas was very hard
(02:54):
for us. There was virtually no money left for gifts
or even a nice dinner. I remember one year it
was almost Christmas time and nothing was under our tree.
My parents felt like the worst parents on planet Earth.
One day, out of the blue, people that we didn't
even know showed up on our front porch and unloaded
a van full of stuff, all the things my mom
(03:18):
would need for a great dinner and gifts for all
four of us kids, even a few gifts for my parents.
Someone had adopted our family. That was the very best
Christmas of my life. Someone had figured out that I
liked the Nancy Drew books and found one of the
first printings of the original series. I was eight years
(03:38):
old at that time, and I still have those books.
This time of year, I think back to the time
and how I still don't know who those generous people were,
but I would like to be someone who might follow
their example. Please tell your listeners that if they are
able to please give something to a needy family this Christmas,
I can guarantee that it will allways be remembered. Thanks
(04:01):
and God bless From a young woman named Felicia. Hi, Jenny, Hi,
thank you for calling. This is Delilah. What can I
do for you?
Speaker 3 (04:20):
I need to know if you would pick out a
song for me tonight for my husband. It was three
years ago that I met him, and it would be
three years Christmas night that he kissed me for the
first time and proposed.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
He proposed the first time he kissed you.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
Yes he did?
Speaker 4 (04:37):
Really?
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Uh huh?
Speaker 1 (04:38):
Now how long had you known him when he when he,
you know, laid the little kiss on your lips?
Speaker 3 (04:44):
About eight months?
Speaker 1 (04:45):
You knew each other eight months and he never kissed you?
Speaker 5 (04:48):
Uh huh?
Speaker 1 (04:49):
What a gentleman?
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Yes he is.
Speaker 1 (04:51):
Now was he like under missletoe or something? Or he
just couldn't resist any longer.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
I don't know what he couldn't use any longer, or
he just thought it was about time.
Speaker 1 (05:03):
And the first time he kissed you he proposed.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yes he did. Wow, Wow, wonderful man.
Speaker 1 (05:10):
And what song do you want to hear tonight to
relive that memory.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
I thought I would let you pick one out, because
you pick out the most beautiful songs.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Well, thank you.
Speaker 4 (05:18):
I will find a good one for you. Hi, Connie, Hi,
Happy holidays.
Speaker 5 (05:29):
Thank you, same to you.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
You have a great story about your father when you
were a little child.
Speaker 5 (05:34):
Yeah, when I was a little girl, I was about
five and a half years old. We had moved around
several times and my dad wanted to move again, and
none of us kiss wanted to move, and my mom
didn't want to move. But he came to us and
he set us five down and he says, if I
promise you a white Christmas this year, will you move?
And because we'd never seen snow before, of course we
(05:54):
all said yes, and so we moved. And so we've
been where we were for about three months and not
one drop of snow. Christmas Eve came and there was
it had been like in the fifties that day and nice,
and there was like no way it was going to
have any snow on Christmas. Our daddy had let us down.
So we all went to bed very bummed, you know, disappointed.
(06:17):
We woke up Christmas morning to two foot of white
snow in our front yard. It had snowed all night long.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
How did Dad arrange that?
Speaker 5 (06:25):
He must have had a nice long talk with God,
and God just listened that day.
Speaker 1 (06:32):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share
more with you each weekday on eight, it's Delilah.
