Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast for Love. Are
you planning a wedding this summer, remember this when you're

(00:22):
planning your big day, your big event, the big day,
the big event is not nearly as important as the
love you share with your beloved. So focus on the love,
Focus on the relationship. Focus on that, and everything else
will fall into place. Della welcome. What can I do

(00:45):
for you?

Speaker 2 (00:46):
I've wanted to make a dedication to my loving husband please.
His name is Patrick, and we've been married for going
on seven years this year, and I want to tell
him that I love him a lot and thank you
for all his love and care. He really knows me

(01:07):
better than I know myself, and he just makes me
a better version of myself. I grew up in a
very dysfunctional background, and I was attackted to the wrong
men before, and I wasn't even I wasn't even attracted
to him.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
That's part. He was going to.

Speaker 2 (01:28):
Become a priest, to a Catholic priest, and he was
about to go in seminary actually, but we met at church.

Speaker 1 (01:37):
And he said, Wait a minute, that whole vows celibacy.
Maybe maybe I'd rather take a wedding vow instead.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, I guess so. But we took a chance, and
I end up being the best chance ever.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Congratulations, Thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
I'm glad I got through. Oh my gosh. I'm a
longtime listener. I've been listening to you since I immigrated
from the Philippines thirty years ago. You've been with me
through college and an adult, young adulthood, and now so
you're actually my nightly companion.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
I will play a song for you and your hubby,
and I'm glad I've been a part of your life.
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
Love you, love you.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
Bye. Und Hi, good evening. You've called the Delilah Show.
Who is this? Hi?

Speaker 4 (02:38):
Do I did this?

Speaker 5 (02:39):
I can't believe it. My name's Alston.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
Hi Allison. Why do you sound like you're about to
have a heart attack on me?

Speaker 5 (02:46):
Because I actually called you about eleven years ago when
I was really young, and I just it's been such
a good update.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
You know.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
So you called me back in the day. How old
were you when you called me?

Speaker 5 (03:00):
I was probably about nineteen or twenty years old. I'm
now thirty one.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Well, welcome back, my friend. What can I do for
you tonight?

Speaker 5 (03:10):
Well, like I said, I messaged you like I called
you back in the day telling you that I was
in a long distance relationship with my boyfriend and we'll
be celebrating eight years of marriage in October.

Speaker 1 (03:24):
So no longer your boyfriend. He left the boyfriend category,
left the fiance category, and now is in the husband
for how many years?

Speaker 5 (03:34):
It'll be eight years this year in October.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Congratulations, Thank you for calling back. Thank you for the update.
I'm so happy that God made all your dreams come
true very much.

Speaker 5 (03:47):
So I'm a teacher now. I'm actually going to be
having my second graduation class in May, so it's big
for me.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
So life has turned out sweet.

Speaker 5 (03:58):
It has. Thank you so much. Delilah.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Hi, good evening, Welcome to the Delilah Show.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Who's this?

Speaker 1 (04:15):
This is Liz, Welcome aboard. What can I do for
you tonight?

Speaker 4 (04:20):
So I wanted to make a request and dedicate it
to my husband, Casey.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
All right, tell me about your hobby and why you
want to hear a song for him.

Speaker 4 (04:29):
So, my husband and I have been together thirteen years.
He's just an amazing husband. And father. When we first
got together, I had a one year old child with
someone else that wasn't in the picture, and he just

(04:50):
stepped up from the word go and just was like,
I'm here for both of you and stuff. And he's
just been there from the word go, and anytime we
ever need anything, he's always just went the extra mile
to make sure we had everything we needed and wanted

(05:12):
in life. And he's just an amazing husband and an
amazing man.

Speaker 1 (05:17):
I will play a song and I will say a
prayer that just God, God just continues and continues to
bless you, to grant you joy, to grant you a
wonderful line. Good evening, Welcome to the Delilah Show. Who

(05:38):
is this?

Speaker 5 (05:40):
Hi?

Speaker 3 (05:40):
This is Crystal? How are you Krystal?

Speaker 1 (05:42):
I am wonderful? How are you welcome? Bored?

Speaker 3 (05:46):
Thank you?

Speaker 1 (05:47):
What can I do for you?

Speaker 3 (05:49):
I'd just like you to pick a song from me
and my husband, David.

Speaker 1 (05:52):
And how long has David been your hobby?

Speaker 3 (05:55):
We've been together twelve years, but married almost three. We
were high school sweethearts and we went different ways and
then we got back together.

Speaker 1 (06:07):
And what song will speak to your hubby's heart? Do
you think?

Speaker 3 (06:11):
I think you're great at picking songs. I talked to
you several years ago and you played a song for
me and my foster mom. So that's how I got
hooked on listening to you as through my foster mom,
and I know you picked wonderful songs.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
All right, I will do my best to pick a
wonderful song for you and your hobby. Thank you for calling,
Thank you for listening. All these years. I did not
realize how many of those young people that were listening
with their moms or in your case, your foster mom,
are still listening. And it has blessed my heart so

(06:49):
much the last few weeks to realize that.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
So thank you, well, Thank you. You do a wonderful job,
and music speaks to a lot of people, and I
think there's a lot of inspiration to all.

Speaker 1 (07:07):
Well, let me go find a song for you. You
have a good night.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
Thank you, You have a wonderful night too.

Speaker 1 (07:17):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share
more with you each weekday on Hey It's Delilah.

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
