Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast. I have been
talking on the air the last few days about my
son Trey, who eloped.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
He and his.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Wife had a beautiful little wedding. I was just his
two boys, her two kids, her mom, and me were
at the wedding and it was beautiful. And I sat
on the air, where did you get married?

Speaker 3 (00:36):
Like?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
What was your wedding?

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Like?

Speaker 1 (00:37):
Was it a big wedding, a small wedding, an intimate wedding,
a destination wedding. In just a moment, I'm going to
share a story. I have never, in all my life
heard a story like this before. I have never, ever,
ever ever heard of anyone who was dying to get
married like these two were. Stay tuned for this coming

(01:02):
up next. Sherry, welcome. What can I do for you?

Speaker 4 (01:08):
Oh ya, I'm talking to the lala.

Speaker 5 (01:10):
How wonderful.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
Oh I love you. But I just got out of
the car and you was asking about where people got married,
if they got married at a church or you know,
at the city hall or you know such forth. Well,
I think I've got a very unique story. Me and
my husband got married at a funeral home. What yeah, yes, ma'am,

(01:38):
we did.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
Okay, back up, back up, back up. I'm talking about
eloping on the beach. My son and his wife just
did that. I was talking about did you get married
in a church? And you're telling me you got married
in a funeral home?

Speaker 4 (01:55):
Yes, name I did. It's so funny. I don't get
to tell this story often.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
So what you're saying is you were dying to get married.

Speaker 4 (02:10):
Ah that I've got to say, we've made it twenty three.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Years, and thank you for calling and sharing your story.
I will never forget this.

Speaker 4 (02:20):
I will never forget that I got to speak directly
to the Lilac. As I listen to your show every time,
it's O. I love, love, love your advice. You're so
down to earth, you know, like the rest of us.
You know that touches anybody's heart. You seem like a

(02:40):
wonderful person.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Well I'm not always wonderful, but I am as down
to earth as you can possibly get.

Speaker 4 (02:47):
And that's wonderful. I can't believe I'm as you're getting
to talk to you.

Speaker 2 (02:51):
Let me play a song for you too. Thank you
for calling.

Speaker 1 (02:54):
Thank you for sharing your story.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
Susie. Hi, this is Delilah. Thank you for your patience.
What can I do for you?

Speaker 3 (03:08):
My husband Mike and I got married in a lighthouse
two years, seven months and eighteen days ago and we
have never spent a night apart until tonight. And I
was hoping you could find a song to just dedicate
to him, to show him that he is my light
and that I miss him so much, and I just

(03:28):
my heart baches to be back in his arms.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
This is the first time you've been apart since you've
been married.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
Yes, he had to go help his grandpa today and
we thought he was going to be back, but ended
up happening to stay overnight. So I just I just
really miss him.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Oh my word. Wow.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
I let him stay up late and he doesn't know it,
but I let him stay up late so they could
hear this dedication.

Speaker 2 (03:57):
You are pathetically in love with this guy.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
I am, I really am. I adore him, I love him.
He has everything to me.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
I can tell. And you're going to see him tomorrow.
I'm assuming I better.

Speaker 3 (04:13):
Wow, Yep, he should be home tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (04:17):
Yeah, you've got a bad You are so bit by
the love bug.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
I am, but you would be too if you knew him.
He's just so awesome. He's just everything to me and
to our kids.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
I will play a good song for you.

Speaker 3 (04:32):
Thank you so much. I'm so excited.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
You have a good night, you too, Thank you.

Speaker 3 (04:37):
Delivah.

Speaker 6 (04:48):
Hi, this is David. I have a great story. I
ran away and get married several years ago, and my
wife missed out on her wedding because we in a
way and got married. Well, anyway, this year, we're going
on a cruise. We're going to renew our vowals and
it'll be fifty years or I'm happy to say that

(05:10):
I'm finally going to give her a wedding and it's
going to we have twenty five people going in my family.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
All of them coming on the cruise.

Speaker 6 (05:20):
Yes, we're going to renew the vowals from the captain.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
Oh wonderful.

Speaker 6 (05:27):
She's the best thing ever happened to me. So I
have a lot to be thankful for. And I wanted
to share this what you doly of because I know
you get a lot of a lot of calls that
people have problems. But I got to say, this is
going to be the happiest day of my life.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Fifty years and you are as in love with her
today as I was then.

Speaker 1 (05:48):
Yeah, I can hear that. I can hear that you
are so stupid in love with her. You're like a
teenage boy.

Speaker 6 (05:53):
I am.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
So if you were to pick.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
One quality of her character that you think has helped
make this marriage last half of a century, what.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Would it be?

Speaker 6 (06:07):
Her and I see eyed eye on a lot of things.
So I think we get along all well together. So
it's not like oil and water mixing. I mean, we
have a really good, good commitment with one another. You know,
it's been a good life. And what's really neat is
my daughter will be married twenty five years and she's

(06:27):
going to renew her vows alongside of us, so it'll
look like a double wedding.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Well, I know you are going to have the time
of your life. Thank you for calling and sharing your
joy with us.

Speaker 6 (06:38):
Oh you're quite welcome.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
Ginger, Hi, thank you for calling. This is Delilah.

Speaker 3 (06:49):
Hi.

Speaker 5 (06:50):
I just I wanted to call in and share my
wedding story with you.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
Okay, Oh love that I want to hear. I love
wedding stories.

Speaker 5 (06:59):
Okay, So just to give you a little bit of
a backstory. My husband and I have known each other
for about three years. In last September, we decided to
get married, and we decided that we were going to
get married on a roller coaster.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
I hope that is an indicative of your relationship.

Speaker 5 (07:17):
Well, you know, marriages a lot of ups and downs.
Then we both came from not the greatest of first marriages.
And so I had a nice white dress on short
white dress, and he had a tuxedo T shirt.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
A texedo t shirts.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Yes, and as sure, now did you throw the hands
up in the air?

Speaker 5 (07:36):
We did, Yes, you.

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Did, of course. And did you get lots of pictures?

Speaker 5 (07:39):
Lots and lots of pictures?

Speaker 1 (07:40):
We were how many cars filled with the guest were
on this roller coaster ride of life.

Speaker 5 (07:47):
We had someone in each car, so the whole train
was our wedding party. So between the two of us,
we had five children, so we felt it was the
best way to get everyone involved so that they could
all enjoy the day.

Speaker 1 (08:01):
The day, what a fun day. Well you have a
good night. Thank you for listening and thank you for sharing.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (08:11):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
I'll share more with you each weekday. On Ay, it's

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
