Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast. Through Out with
the old, in with the new, Welcome aboard at least

(00:22):
out with all the bad stuff, but keep the lessons
learned of joy, love and triumph this year to carry
you through the new year. Right here on. Hey, it's Delilah.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Hi, good evening. Who's this?

Speaker 3 (00:34):
This is Angela. How are you, Delilah?

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Angela? I could not be better. Thank you for asking good?
What can I do to make your night even better?

Speaker 3 (00:43):
Well? I would love to tell you about my sweet
husband and a neat little story about how we got together.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
What's your sweet hobby's name?

Speaker 4 (00:50):
It's Troy.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
How did you meet Troy?

Speaker 3 (00:53):
I was coming out of a very sad marriage ending
kind of situation and with a nut time in my
life when you know, my judgment was really rattled, and
you know I had pretty much been dumped by my
former husband, and you know that kind of alleged questioning everything
about well everything about everything. So back then, I worked

(01:16):
for the Postal Service, and I was pathetic. I was
volunteering to work holidays just to you know, stay busy.
And it was New Year's Eve and I was working
and I had brought all kinds of music to listen to,
and I was listening to Harry Connick Junior, that great
Christmas CD he has where he sings, what are you
doing New Year's Eve?

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (01:36):
That song? So this song is playing, and it's just
like just the pinnacle of all the grieving I had
been doing, you know, over that situation. And I remember
just stopping right then, thinking, that's what I want. I
wish somebody would sing to me like that. I wish,
you know, somebody would care about me like that. And
you know, it was just a totally private moment. I'm

(01:56):
sitting there with headphones on. I mean, nobody knew about
this moment. So the curtain goes down on that day
and life goes on, and you know, I was doing
a lot of praying about what direction my life was
going to take because I was kind of in foreign territory.
But I I met a guy named Troy, and he
was just darling and asked me out, and so we

(02:17):
started dating. So one day Troy came to my house
and he was in my kitchen fixing dinner because he's
a great cook. And I had left something upstairs, and
I'm standing up there in the hallway and I'm thinking, oh,
what do I do? You know, this guy's too good
to be true. And so I said a little prayer
up in the hallway, and I'm like, God, you know,

(02:38):
if this is the person you want me to be with,
you're just going to have to show me. And you're
gonna have to just not be subtle. I don't do subtle.
I need the burning bush. I need, you know, the
pointing finger out of the sky or something. And so
I stood there a minute and I hear Troy downstairs singing,
and he always sings when he does stuff. And stood

(02:58):
there for a minute and I finally realized what song
he was actually singing, and it was what are you
doing New Year Seve? And I just stood there with
my mouth open, and you know, the hair on the
back of my neck standing up, and I'm like, okay.

Speaker 4 (03:11):
There's my side.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
So fast forward, you know, a few years and we're
married and we're going to celebrate our second wedding anniversary
in March. And you know, not to say that it's
all been completely easy, but I finally feel like I'm
right where I belong.

Speaker 2 (03:28):
Well, congratulations on finding the love of your life. Late
play a song for you.

Speaker 5 (03:31):
Tom, I appreciate it.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Hi, Nancy, how are you good?

Speaker 4 (03:41):
How are you?

Speaker 2 (03:42):
I'm fabulous? Did you have a good Christmas? A good holiday?

Speaker 4 (03:46):
I did? Thank you?

Speaker 6 (03:47):
How about yourself?

Speaker 2 (03:48):
I had a fabulous, fabulous holiday. So what can I
do for you?

Speaker 6 (03:53):
Well, I guess I'm here to tell you about my
unique engagement story.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Okay, when did you get engaged?

Speaker 6 (04:02):
I got engaged this past May.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
And tell me how your honey proposed.

Speaker 6 (04:07):
Well, sometime in March, I was sick in bed and
he came to visit me. I live at home, and
he surprised me with a visit and I told him,
you know, Jeeve, I'm wanting in to rescue me for
my castle. So one day in May, is around eleven
eleven thirty at night, he called me from his cell
phone and told me to look out the windows. I

(04:28):
look out the window and there he is, and I'm
on the second floor. He's hanging on the ledge. He
and his best friend had put a ladder up to
my house and he, you know, was trying to get
into the house. And I wouldn't let him in. You know,
I told him, you know, jeez, you know, this is crazy.
I can't sneak a guy into my house. You know,

(04:49):
I'm a good girl. What are you doing. He's trying
to get me in trouble.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
And he's now, how how old are you?

Speaker 6 (04:55):
I'm thirty one years old. Actually, I no.

Speaker 2 (05:00):
And you were afraid mom and dad would be upset
that a man was coming to call Absolutely.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
You know, my parents are in the bedroom right next
to mine. They were sleeping. I was afraid they were
going to wake up. I thought neighbors were going to
call the police. And it was just a little crazy.
So I was telling them, you know, you need to
come in the front door, and they were arguing out
my window. So anyway, he forced the window open. He
came in and trying to hug me, and I was

(05:27):
pushing him away. I was telling him to shush because
I thought, you know, again, my parents are going to
wake up. A cop car drove by, so I'm thinking,
oh my god, this is insane. I can't believe this.
This is going to be so bad. And I didn't
even realize I had a backpack on and he opened
the backpack and pulled out a ring, and I was
just so frazzled, and he proposed, and he asked me

(05:50):
like two or three times. I didn't even hear him
the first time. I was just so shocked and nervous
and I just couldn't believe what was going on. And
of course I said yes. And he had champagne and
a couple of glasses in the backpack. And after a
few minutes through it and woke my parents up, who
are equally as shot, and it was just really nice.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
So they weren't upset that he had climbed up your
window and pretended to be Romeo and Juliet.

Speaker 6 (06:21):
No, No, they like them, so they weren't. They weren't upset.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Well, God bless you have a beautiful wedding. Happy New Year.

Speaker 6 (06:29):
Too, Thank you you too.

Speaker 2 (06:41):
Hi, good evening.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Who is this Hi? This is Kathy Delilah.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
Hi Kathy, Happy holidays and to you too. Tell me
who's on your heart tonight?

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Oh, don't you know? It's my whole family, but especially
my daughter. She's she's got my little first grand baby
but not born yet, just on the way, on the way.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
When's the baby deal?

Speaker 4 (07:03):
April the second, and we know we had a sonogram,
so we know we're expecting a little girl, and her
name will be Liliana Danielle. So she's especially on my heart.
But all of my children, I have three boys. She's
my only girl, so I have four altogether and two

(07:25):
are married. She and one of my sons, and then
my other two sons are still living at the house
with me, but they're grown. They have their own working
and doing and all of that. But it is nice
to have everybody kind of still close by, especially at
the holidays.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
So I will play a song that lets them know
the whole family how precious they are on mama's heart tonight.

Speaker 4 (07:50):
That would be just wonderful. That would be a real
treat for me. Delilah. Enjoy your show so.

Speaker 2 (07:57):
Much, Oh thank you. We have so much fun, especially
during the holidays, I.

Speaker 4 (08:02):
Know, and it's fun for us to listen. It's such
a treat to hear what's on people's hearts in all
the different ways that people are just sending out that love,
you know, to each other and their families and their sweethearts.
And it's just a real special time.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
Don't you think if if we all used Hanukkah and
Christmas as a reason to pray for each other and
for the world at large, we might be able to
change things a little bit.

Speaker 4 (08:30):
You know, Delilah, that's not a mite.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
You know, the prayers of a righteous man availeth much,
and so somebody like me who's very unrighteous, it's kind
of availeth a little bit.

Speaker 4 (08:40):
Huh. But do you know that if we did that,
not just at Christmas time, but if we made that
our hearts work to pray for those just that are
in our circle, from there, the world would be a
different place to live.

Speaker 2 (08:55):
Well, that's going to be my New Year's resolution to
remember every day to pray more. And I prayed more
deeply for my circle, for those that have touched my life,
and for those that I will never meet but just
need need a blessing from above.

Speaker 4 (09:11):
Absolutely, and Delilah, please know that I will be praying
for you specifically. Thank you, Thank you, Delilah, and you
have a wonderful holiday.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
God bless you. Honey. Hi, good evening, Welcome to the
Delilah Show.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
Who is this?

Speaker 5 (09:32):
Hi? This is Michelle.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
Hi, Michelle, how are you fine?

Speaker 5 (09:35):
Thank you? How are you so?

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Do you have any promises, any decisions, any commitments? For
the new year.

Speaker 5 (09:41):
Well, I just have basically, I made a decision to
let go of pain that I went through this year.
And basically I had gone through a lot of pain
and a lot of suffering this year for me, my family,
and my daughter, and my husband rather and my daughter
and myself of course, and I just I just basically
made a decision to just accept the fact that God

(10:03):
knows that I'm going through this and that he wants
me to be here exactly where I am today. So
it's not a decision about you know, making a car
payment early or doing anything like that. It's just acceptance
and letting go. And I think that's something I just
wanted to share with all the other women out there
who you know, I need just need some solace.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
It's so it's sounds so good when you say it,
but the reality is you and I both know this.
That's a decision that you have to make every minute
of every day exactly.

Speaker 5 (10:34):
It's a constant reminder. But I know he knows what's
best for me, and I have faith in my husband
and my daughter, and I'm so glad that I have
her and keeps me going. And I just wanted to
share that with all the other women out there and
men of course who who've gone through loss, to just
accept that sometimes things aren't meant to be. And that's

(10:56):
one of the decisions that I made to accept that.

Speaker 2 (10:59):
I heard a fabul us preacher one time who had
gone through just a year after year after year of
horrific loss and went into a depression, loss his job
because of it, and he said that the turnaround, the
turning point for him, came when he stopped saying asking
God why, and said what now? What now would you

(11:21):
have me to do? Now that I've gone through this? God,
what now would you have me to do with my life?
And he said the minute that he was able to
make that transition in his mind from why to what now,
everything turned around.

Speaker 5 (11:34):
It's such a great thing I'm going to actually keep
in my head every minute of next year. Thank you
so much. I just wanted to wish you a very
happy new year and a very healthy and blessed one
and saying hello to all the women out there who
have gone through this and tell them that they're not
alone and that there are brighter days ahead.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments much
as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share more

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
