Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast through I hope
that things are well in your world. I hope that
there is peace in your heart and in your home.

(00:25):
I talked to somebody yesterday who was in an unfortunate
position of having to hold someone accountable, who had broken
the law, who had committed some crimes, some pretty serious crimes.
And this person is a college graduate who lost the

(00:45):
love of his life a few years ago. And when
he lost the person he loved, he lost his self,
He lost his direction, and he began medicating the pain
with drugs and alcohol, and those drugs led to stronger drugs,
and that led to robbery. Have you lost yourself in

(01:10):
pain or grief and you are self medicating and you're
losing everything, and you know you need to make some changes.
Make the changes today. Make the changes today. Don't put
it off because you're not promised tomorrow. Make the changes today. Hi,

(01:35):
you've called Delilah. Who is this?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
This is Julie.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Julie, what can I do for you?

Speaker 2 (01:42):
I would like very much to dedicate a song to
my friend Jason going through hell for the last twenty
years and things are finally come in right for him.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Tell me about your son, what he's been through, and
how we can celebrate for him.

Speaker 2 (02:04):
Well, he became addicted to meth when he was eighteen
and gone through countless relapses and then addictions to prescription drugs, homelessness.
He recently had a psychotic break and became violent and

(02:29):
friend to kill me. Managed to hold it together to
get into the emergency room, and he spent twelve days
in a lockdown facility and came out a new person, clean,
his mental health issues addressed and on the proper medications,

(02:54):
and case started a real, live, full time job Monday
and is just feeling so fantastic about himself, which he
hasn't felt like in years. And I'm so proud of him. Wow,

(03:17):
he's just blooming.

Speaker 1 (03:20):
And have you gone to alan On or naran On?
Are you do you have a program in place? No,
there are online meetings for INNA and AA seven days
a week, pretty much every hour of the day. And boy,
let me tell you, there is a whole lot of
healing in those meetings.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
I promise I'll go.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
It will bring you more healing than you could possibly
know or imagine. And whether he stays sober and stays
clean or slips, you will still be able to have serenity.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Yes, I could use that.

Speaker 3 (03:59):
All right.

Speaker 1 (04:00):
Let me find a good song for you. Thank you
for calling.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
Thank you for len us so much.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
God bless you.

Speaker 5 (04:12):
Hi, good evening, Welcome to the Delilah Show. Who is this?

Speaker 6 (04:16):
This is Rick? Is this de Iowah?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
It is Rick. Who are you thinking about this evening?

Speaker 6 (04:21):
I'm thinking of my wife.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
What's your bride's name.

Speaker 6 (04:24):
My wife's name's Teresa, and she's such a wonderful woman.
I need to be honest with you. I'm a drug addict, okay,
but I've been cleaned for over forty two days, going
to meetings, and I have a sponsor and I do
the twelve step program. And we separated, but we got
back together by the grace of God. And it's just

(04:46):
so wonderful that I'm able to be clean and have
my family back in my life.

Speaker 3 (04:53):
So they've forgiven. They're working with you.

Speaker 6 (04:56):
Yes, ma'am, they are. They are trying to work with
me day by day, and that's all I can do
is take one day at a time.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
So tell me what you want to tell your family.

Speaker 6 (05:06):
Oh, I just love them so much. They've been by
my side through stick and thin, and I just want
them to let them know that I love them deeply
and I care about them. I can't say enough about
my family.

Speaker 3 (05:21):
Let me ask you this, sir.

Speaker 5 (05:22):
Do you love them enough to continue to work your
program even when the going gets tough?

Speaker 6 (05:27):
Yes, ma'am, I do. I have been in and out
of the program for five years, but this past time
I hit rock bottom and I realize that I need
this program in order to love my family. I need
to love myself in order to love my family, and
also I need to program in order to live.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
So let me find a song of hope for you
and everybody who's taken it one day at a time.

Speaker 6 (05:52):
Well, I thank you so much. And you help so
many people by just being there listening to them, and
you are such a wonderful person.

Speaker 3 (06:02):
Thanks. You have a good night.

Speaker 6 (06:03):
Rick.

Speaker 3 (06:13):
Hi, you've called the Delilah Show. Who is this?

Speaker 7 (06:17):
Hello Delilah? This is Maureen.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Hi, Maureen, what can I do for you this evening?

Speaker 7 (06:23):
I would like to hear any kind of love song
that you can play for I just left seventy five
to eighty of my closest friends in recovery, and it
was an awesome power.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Didn't you just feel high as a kite after you
go and you share and you listen and you take
notes and you realize that we're we're all in this together.

Speaker 7 (06:44):
Delilah, it was absolutely probably one of the best meetings
I have been to in my twenty six years of recovery.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
So stapper topic.

Speaker 7 (06:55):
Open speaker.

Speaker 1 (06:56):
Ah, so you are in all sorts of good wisdom.

Speaker 7 (07:00):
Oh she was awesome.

Speaker 3 (07:01):
Well, I will.

Speaker 1 (07:02):
Play a song for everyone who is taking life one
day at a time.

Speaker 7 (07:07):
Thank you in our mind you are one of our
closest friends.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Also, Ah, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
God.

Speaker 1 (07:15):
Bless you, God bless you too, Delilah.

Speaker 3 (07:25):
Hi, good evening. Who is this?

Speaker 8 (07:26):
This is Sandy?

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Sandy? What can I do for you?

Speaker 8 (07:29):
I'd like to dedicate a song to my son. He's
my youngest. He's going through a tough time right now.
He's in a de tax unit trying to get well,
and I'm very proud of him. How old is he
He's twenty six.

Speaker 5 (07:45):
And did he make this choice on his own or
did he have help getting there.

Speaker 8 (07:49):
Nope, he made it completely on his own. He called
me one day he said, Mom, please take me, and
I took him.

Speaker 4 (07:57):
So it was a big step for him.

Speaker 8 (07:58):
He struggled most of his life.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
And the struggle continues, but with God's help, he'll get there.

Speaker 5 (08:04):
Good for him, Good for him for having the courage
to make that first step.

Speaker 8 (08:09):
Oh Amenjilila, I have to tell you, I love you.
You have such a beautiful spirit.

Speaker 4 (08:15):
I listen to you every night and you'll lift me
off every night. Thank you.

Speaker 5 (08:22):
So were you aware of your son's problem? Had you
been hoping he would make the step? Or were you
kind of blindsided? Were you surprised and shocked when he
came clean and said I got a little problem here.

Speaker 4 (08:33):
Ma, No, I knew, and I prayed every night.

Speaker 8 (08:37):
Every night.

Speaker 4 (08:38):
I prayed that God would open his eyes and show
him the way. And thank you Jesus, he did. He did. So.
It just gives me a goosebumps. I'm very proud of him.

Speaker 5 (08:52):
Well, I am proud of him for everybody who is
willing to look themselves in the mirror honestly and say
I need help, this isn't good. Yes, And then with
friends and family they'll make it through.

Speaker 8 (09:06):
Absolutely, oh absolutely.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Let me find a song for him. You have a
good night, thank you, Bye bye bye.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share
more with you each weekday on Hey It's Delilah

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
