Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, it's Delilah. Thank you for stopping by. I have
put together some of my favorite radio moments here to
share with you on our daily podcast. You know, a
lot of everyday life is sort of do it yourself.
But one part of life that should never be dey

(00:25):
is trying to get through a rough spot without reaching
out for help and asking someone to love you and
support you. It's true. We need those roots systems anchored
in the ground to see us through the storms of life.
We need our friends and family who are the roots
of our tree of life. Hi, good evening, Welcome to

(00:49):
the Delilah Show. Who is this?

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (00:52):
This is Mary?

Speaker 2 (00:52):
Am I really on? Hi?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Mary?

Speaker 1 (00:54):
Yes you are? This is really Delilah. What can I
do for you?

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Oh my Godlilah, this is so amazing. I just got
down lighting candles for my friends. I have friends that
I love so much and they're suffering today, and you know,
you talk about love a lot. I was wondering if
you could play a song for my friend's song of

(01:22):
healing for them because I love them all so much,
and one of them was in the emergency room all day.
They just got home just like a little while ago.
I just I really appreciate your show so much.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
You're so lovely.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you for caring
for your friends. Thank you for showing your love in
a practical way. A lot of people you know talk
about love, but they don't put feet to their faith.
They don't do practical things that actually are meaningful and matter.

(01:59):
And I love that you put your faith into action.
So I appreciate that. What are your friend's names?

Speaker 2 (02:06):
One is named Keith, he's the top one today, and
Katie and Jody and Chris, and I'll leave it to
you to pick up a nice healing song for them,
one of healing and love.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
You got it. I will do that.

Speaker 2 (02:23):
I love you so much, Delilah, Thank.

Speaker 1 (02:26):
You, thank you. Hi, good evenings, Thank you for calling.
This is Delilah, Hi Delilah, this is John. Hi John.
What can I do for you?

Speaker 5 (02:42):
I just thought I got someone really special on my heart.
She's a real close friend to me. Her name is Richina.
She was there for me. I lost my mom and
my wife this last year, two months apart from each other,
and she was there really just to comfort me as
a through the whole orteal. And I just want to

(03:03):
reach out to her and play her a song, let
her know that I thank her for always being there
for me.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
How are you standing up, son, under the heartache of
losing your mother and your wife?

Speaker 5 (03:18):
Every day I stepped forward with the Lord. He just
protects me. I don't know. I don't know how I
do it, ma'am.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
Well, God bless you. Let me play a song for
your friend Regina. Yes, ma'am, I'm glad you've got somebody
there in your corner to comfort you. Now. Has she moved?
Have you, guys moved forward in this friendship? Because there's
a little, little little something I'm detecting in your voice.

Speaker 5 (03:45):
No, No, I just want to keep it in friendship.
And I think it's too early for me to start
moving on. I just like I said, I just just
lost my wife in May last year and my mom
in June.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
I am so proud of you for recognizing that it
is probably too early and for keeping things on an
even keel. Let me play a song for you.

Speaker 5 (04:09):
Thank you, hon, I appreciate it. God bless you.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
Hi, Denise, thank you for calling. What can I do
for you?

Speaker 6 (04:25):
Well?

Speaker 4 (04:25):
I wanted to ask you because I discovered about a
week ago that there are angels out there that we
never meet, and they do the kindest of deeds that
sometimes can really make life a lot more bearable. I
was driving home in an area at night where the

(04:46):
grade was like a very deep decline, and I don't
drive in that because I don't live in the mountains,
and I was panicking because I thought, I'm going to
go off this mountain. I'm going to die. And this
semi goes in which me and pulls in front of
me and slow down. And I slowed down because I
wouldn't go to go around him. And we'd get to

(05:08):
a curve and he, the driver would slow down, I
would slow down, he'd be back up to about where
he was when he got in front of me. It
took about three times to realize this driver was keeping
me from going too fast and had recognized how fearful
I was, and did this for fifteen miles, and we

(05:28):
went through a tunnel and the driver was still slow.
We got out of the tunnel and he flashed his
lights and off he went as though he was to
say you did it. You did it, girl, And that
meant so much to me that my only way of
thanking this person wants to flash my lights back, and
I've been thinking about that ever since, thinking I wish
Delilah could play a song for those out there who

(05:51):
have no way of knowing the impact that they're making
on our lives, and was wondering if you could play
Lean on Me to those traveling angels.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
Wow, or maybe it was just an angel. Hi, good evening.
What can I do for you tonight, Chastity.

Speaker 6 (06:14):
Well, Delilah, I want to tell you I am the
founder and director of a ministry called the Forgiveness Party Ministry, Inc.
And we have women that come up to our retreats
that are dealing with some of the most horrific things
that they would have to overcome, and we have the
ability to tell them how to get through those things.

(06:36):
And we are booming because obviously there's a need for it.
And I wanted to tell you that I am always
so impressed with listening to you on the radio because
I can see that you have a heart for helping people,
and that's really what we're about to and I would
love to play a song for these women just to
let them know that there is help out there that

(06:58):
if they want some form of help at all, that
there's always somebody there that can help them get through
some of their issues.

Speaker 1 (07:05):
So women come to you who have been hurt, abused, molested, abandoned,
taken advantage of, lied to cheat it on.

Speaker 6 (07:13):
Beat them down any area of hurt in their life,
any area of unforgiveness in their life. And really that's
kind of what we do with our little motto as
we celebrate freedom through forgiving, And what we do is
we take them through a step by step program along
with speeches and workshops that show them how to do
this on a regular basis, because obviously forgiveness is a

(07:36):
very very difficult thing to do unless you're becoming a
miffed at it. And in order to do that, you
have to practice. Practice makes perfect, And when they leave,
they are just elated.

Speaker 1 (07:47):
I can remember when I started my walk with God
and I realized that maybe forgiveness was a concept I
should embrace. I was like, no, I am not going
to forgive people who are bad to me and hurt me.
And when I finally realized that it wasn't a feeling,
it wasn't oh, I'm going to go hang out with
you on the back deck and have a barbecue. It
was a decision to set yourself free by letting God

(08:09):
deal with them. It was like, oh, well, I can
do that.

Speaker 6 (08:13):
And that's really what we teach them. We show them
what the definition of true forgiveness is. And we've had
so many women come away totally free and healed, and
I wanted them to know much we love them so much.
All of our staff just loves them so much, and
we want them just to say, hey, you know what,
We're here for you and we love you, and you

(08:34):
can get through this.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
Yvonne Hyatt's Delilah, How are you lad you wrote to
me and told me about an angel that helped you
one night? Right, tell me your story.

Speaker 3 (08:52):
I was moving everything I had. I had it all
packed in the car.

Speaker 6 (08:56):
My car was overloaded, and you had a child in the.

Speaker 3 (08:58):
Car, my little boy, he was seven ants time.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
And you had a cat and a cat and a
car fall and a car overloaded, overloaded.

Speaker 3 (09:08):
Overloaded, it was closed. My little boy had heard of
any room. The cat was in a box.

Speaker 1 (09:12):
And you were going to another state, a new life.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
A new life from another state.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
And then what happened?

Speaker 3 (09:19):
My car started smoking and I pulled over and it
wouldn't start anymore making weird noises, and this guy pulled
over behind the car and asked if I needed help,
and so I went ahead and took the chance that
he wasn't a bad guy, and so he loaded me
and my cat, my little kid in his car and

(09:39):
he drove to an exit where a gas station was
and he went into the gas station. He used the
phone and he got the tow truck guy to come
get us. He made sure we were going to be okay,
and he went on his way. But I never asked
him his name, and he was real sweet. He says,
you're going to be okay now, and I says, yeah,
we're going to be okay. So he got us a

(10:01):
tow truck and everything, and.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Then he disappeared into the night.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
And he disappeared into night basically don't know worry when
he just drove off after made sure we were going
to be okay.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
So we can say thank you to the roadside angel.

Speaker 3 (10:13):
Definitely, yes, thank you. I've always wanted to say that.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
So Yvonne, do me a favor, pay it forward, do
something kind and loving for somebody else someday, and I'll
play a song for that angel.

Speaker 3 (10:25):
Thank you.

Speaker 1 (10:26):
You have a good night too. I so hope you
have enjoyed these radio moments as much as I enjoy
bringing them to you. I'll share more with you each
weekday on Hey It's Delilah

The Burden

The Burden

The Burden is a documentary series that takes listeners into the hidden places where justice is done (and undone). It dives deep into the lives of heroes and villains. And it focuses a spotlight on those who triumph even when the odds are against them. Season 5 - The Burden: Death & Deceit in Alliance On April Fools Day 1999, 26-year-old Yvonne Layne was found murdered in her Alliance, Ohio home. David Thorne, her ex-boyfriend and father of one of her children, was instantly a suspect. Another young man admitted to the murder, and David breathed a sigh of relief, until the confessed murderer fingered David; “He paid me to do it.” David was sentenced to life without parole. Two decades later, Pulitzer winner and podcast host, Maggie Freleng (Bone Valley Season 3: Graves County, Wrongful Conviction, Suave) launched a “live” investigation into David's conviction alongside Jason Baldwin (himself wrongfully convicted as a member of the West Memphis Three). Maggie had come to believe that the entire investigation of David was botched by the tiny local police department, or worse, covered up the real killer. Was Maggie correct? Was David’s claim of innocence credible? In Death and Deceit in Alliance, Maggie recounts the case that launched her career, and ultimately, “broke” her.” The results will shock the listener and reduce Maggie to tears and self-doubt. This is not your typical wrongful conviction story. In fact, it turns the genre on its head. It asks the question: What if our champions are foolish? Season 4 - The Burden: Get the Money and Run “Trying to murder my father, this was the thing that put me on the path.” That’s Joe Loya and that path was bank robbery. Bank, bank, bank, bank, bank. In season 4 of The Burden: Get the Money and Run, we hear from Joe who was once the most prolific bank robber in Southern California, and beyond. He used disguises, body doubles, proxies. He leaped over counters, grabbed the money and ran. Even as the FBI was closing in. It was a showdown between a daring bank robber, and a patient FBI agent. Joe was no ordinary bank robber. He was bright, articulate, charismatic, and driven by a dark rage that he summoned up at will. In seven episodes, Joe tells all: the what, the how… and the why. Including why he tried to murder his father. Season 3 - The Burden: Avenger Miriam Lewin is one of Argentina’s leading journalists today. At 19 years old, she was kidnapped off the streets of Buenos Aires for her political activism and thrown into a concentration camp. Thousands of her fellow inmates were executed, tossed alive from a cargo plane into the ocean. Miriam, along with a handful of others, will survive the camp. Then as a journalist, she will wage a decades long campaign to bring her tormentors to justice. Avenger is about one woman’s triumphant battle against unbelievable odds to survive torture, claim justice for the crimes done against her and others like her, and change the future of her country. Season 2 - The Burden: Empire on Blood Empire on Blood is set in the Bronx, NY, in the early 90s, when two young drug dealers ruled an intersection known as “The Corner on Blood.” The boss, Calvin Buari, lived large. He and a protege swore they would build an empire on blood. Then the relationship frayed and the protege accused Calvin of a double homicide which he claimed he didn’t do. But did he? Award-winning journalist Steve Fishman spent seven years to answer that question. This is the story of one man’s last chance to overturn his life sentence. He may prevail, but someone’s gotta pay. The Burden: Empire on Blood is the director’s cut of the true crime classic which reached #1 on the charts when it was first released half a dozen years ago. Season 1 - The Burden In the 1990s, Detective Louis N. Scarcella was legendary. In a city overrun by violent crime, he cracked the toughest cases and put away the worst criminals. “The Hulk” was his nickname. Then the story changed. Scarcella ran into a group of convicted murderers who all say they are innocent. They turned themselves into jailhouse-lawyers and in prison founded a lway firm. When they realized Scarcella helped put many of them away, they set their sights on taking him down. And with the help of a NY Times reporter they have a chance. For years, Scarcella insisted he did nothing wrong. But that’s all he’d say. Until we tracked Scarcella to a sauna in a Russian bathhouse, where he started to talk..and talk and talk. “The guilty have gone free,” he whispered. And then agreed to take us into the belly of the beast. Welcome to The Burden.
