Speaker 1 (00:01):
From My Arm Radio, Common Enemy and Tendum with TV
They Pal Podcast Pal, Hey Pal with Jared and dev Alright,
so we've had a great time with episode one with
Brandon Rolth and now we're gonna a great time so far.
You still have time to ruin it so far, so far, um,
(00:25):
which you normally do. Yeah, So, uh part two that
we're gonna we're gonna go into. You know, I'm really
impressed with him so far. Again, just the way that
he's been able to kind of navigate through the entertainment
industry and you know, he's gone from such a huge
global role and still being able to work and kind
(00:46):
of you know, shed that that Superman stigma and do
other things. So you really got to check him out
on That's that's the signs of a of a true actor.
Oh yeah, it really is. And like you were saying,
Davo like that, this whole the rookie role. Who knows
what kind of doors this is going to open globally
for Brandon? Yeah, well, I mean it's a completely he's
playing not a good person and he's playing a guy
(01:06):
that it's definitely a sensitive topic these days. You know,
he's a a white police officer Um who has some
racial tendencies and uh a really really kind of great
character for him to sink his teeth into. But it
shows a completely different side of him that I think
people will be very impressed by. I love it. Let's
get into it Part two. Dave and I I we
(01:27):
we were chatting um this morning about Lebron James, and
Lebron James has taken on so many roles as as
an athlete, and we think that one of the biggest
ones that he took on is he was such a
hero in Cleveland, right I'm talking the first time around.
I mean, he was Superman, Spider Man, Captain to Mary,
he was everything rolled in he he was, he was,
(01:50):
he really was, and and he went from being the
hero Brandon to overnight deciding I don't want to be
in Cleveland anymore. I'm gonna go to Miami and team
up with d Wade and Chris Ball. I'm gonna win
some championships in South Beach. And he instantly became the villain.
And so it got us thinking on for you do
(02:10):
you because now that you are you're on the rookie
and you're sort of playing you played a villain you
sort of playing a villain here, you know, and we
want to know, like you know, Lebron had second thoughts
obviously after he was the villain, you know, when he
was villainized, he was like, I gotta get my butt
back to Cleveland and go win them a championship. I
need to be the hero again. Right for you as
(02:30):
an actor, do you live in the villain space and go, man,
this is so awesome to portray and like this challenges
me and I want to I want to do this more.
Or when you were on set, did you miss being
the hero and you go, I want to go back
to being a hero. I definitely enjoy playing the hero
(02:51):
um more a lot more than than the villain of
the bad guy. But I do enjoy the challenge of
of of of the villain. It's important to be able
to understand other people's experience and uh being able to
betray um in a life like real way. A villain
(03:15):
a someone who has um racialized stereotypes and profiles and
all does all these things that Doug Stanton did in
The Rookie Um, How does how does that? How does
that person actually exist? Because unfortunately they do. There are
Doug stantons all over the world. Um, and and that's hard.
(03:37):
Like for me, I resisted accepting that because I didn't
want to see that part of me come out. But
as I've grown as an actor and understanding myself, it's
like I can explore that I can be both, a
person can be both and and in fact, nobody is
all good or nobody is all bad. We're all shades
of gray, shades of what you know. Life is not
(03:58):
black and white. Yeah, um and uh and plus so
playing Doug helped me understand that. And but and so
so it's cool and a great socially like a cool
social opportunity to to engage in the social experiment and
and get this character out there for people to think
about this type of thing. But it's more fun to
(04:19):
go and be nice. I also think it's interesting because
you know, you played on the Rookie. You played that
kind of kind of evil character, and it's I think
it's kind of nice in a way that it happened
when it did, because it's during this pandemic where people
aren't out and about as much as they would have
(04:41):
been had this been a year or two ago, so
you haven't really had to deal on a personal level,
you know, because sometimes people get very invested in their
TV shows and in the characters, so you don't have
to deal with that as much of people coming up
to you and being like, oh my god, that's the
guy that played you know, that bad coup on the rookie.
You know, so that's been little bit of a bonus
for you. I'm just getting getting in my Twitter feed.
(05:03):
I hate dig Stanton, but I love you. Yeah, yes,
I get it. Yeah, it's very true. All right, um,
now I'm sorry, hang on one second. You go, well
I did I did yours. I know he took mine,
So go ahead, now you did this, Brandon, awaits you, David,
(05:27):
you do that, pal, you took my It's okay. That's
just the type of guy you are. That's just that's
just the type of guy. Um okay. So so Brandon,
we've obviously been in a pandemic. We're we're trying to
get out of this pandemic. It feels like, for the
first time over the last i don't know month, call
it maybe even more, maybe a little less, that we're
(05:47):
we're we're it feels like we can do it. It
feels like it's actually happening. Um, there are more people
in the stands, uh than there ever have been for
sporting events. Obviously there was zero and now there's I think,
what is it, Dave percent, there's more people in Miami
than in the United States partying. So Miami's completely up
and running. Yeah, not responsible, um, but you know. And
(06:09):
then then there's more people in the theaters than there
have been in the last in the last year. And
so we wanted to know from you if you Brannan
Ralph had to pick one and you only get one
b one actor to put on a screen, not yourself.
So one actor to put on the screen that will
be responsible for causing people to get back into the
(06:30):
stands and watching this person's movie. We have no idea
the genre, We have no idea what kind of movie
it is, or who's producing or who's directing. Your responsibility
is just I'm gonna put one actor and you want
to get as many people in the stands, sorry, as
many people in the theater in the seats. Who's the
one actor you're putting And then we also want to
ask you who is the one athlete you're going to
choose to put on a field or court or wherever
(06:53):
to get fans back in the stands. So so this
is my not like my favorite person necessarily, but who
I think the audience and and America would respond best to. Yeah,
I think so. But now I'm curious to hear who
your favorite. Now you did it to yourself, Brandon, because
it's it's different things like who do I want to see?
(07:15):
But if it's if it's responsible for getting people into theaters, jeez,
I mean it's hard. There's so many different outlets. There's
so many different you know, you don't have There aren't
just movie stars for everyone. Now, there movie starts for
age groups. Because we have so much content. So you know,
that's why we gave you so many people to choose from.
You get one, wow, drum Kyle, you know. Uh, the
(07:46):
one that's coming back to me is Tom Hanks. But
but Tom Tom Hanks, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Uh but
they're but there but there, you know. But there's a
such a younger audience. It was that Tom holland all
the Tom's Now that's true. Tom Hardy, well maybe a
few years ago. Uh, oh my gosh, who is the
(08:09):
biggest draw right now? Oh the rock? Are you going
to go with the rock. You're going to have to
boast the most broad grab of people. Yeah, Devo, who
are you picking? Yeah, I mean I might It might
be future president Dwayne Johnson. I might agree with with
(08:30):
You know what, No, I think what's gonna get people
back in theaters. And and this is maybe you know
a nostalgic thing for me, is I think that Top Gun. Yeah,
when the new Top Gun comes out, I think people
are going to leave their house, even if they could
stream it on TV or not, I think They're going
to leave their house to go see Top Gun. So yeah, Tom,
(08:50):
Tom can be uh can be touch and go for people,
for sure. He's a He's a movie star. Man's he
is a he is a movie Well, it's in It's
interesting because I have this conversation with people all the
time that um and not Jared because it's general with
people that I like, But um, I have his conversation
with people all the time about the actual the movie star, Like,
(09:13):
is the movie star the movie stars kind of a
dying breed. It's like an endangered species, the actual movie star.
And there aren't really When you think of a bona
fide movie star, you could probably count on your bona
fude either tomato tomato, you could count on your on
your ten fingers. Probably movie stars. It's it's a dying breed. Um,
(09:35):
you know, DiCaprio, Tom Cruise, I mean, George Clooney, Brad Pitt,
these guys are they're they're dying out, you know what
I mean. Um, And it's gonna be interesting. And like
Brandon said, it's because of all the different options and
all the social media. I mean, I was just in
Atlanta for that Triller fight and I was with these
these kids that are influencers, but you actually call them
(09:55):
content creators now because influencer as a negative stigma. These
con and creators and people are losing their minds for
these kids that make these TikTok videos. You know what
I mean, it's in troller videos. It's incredible. So it's
really it's really interesting. But I do think that Tom
Cruise is one of those people that yeah, definitely, okay, okay,
(10:17):
b give us give us an athlete. What athlete is
gonna is gonna put people back in the in the stands.
I think I think even even at his age, you
put mj on a on a court. Oh yeah, yeah,
that's a that's a great it's so true, that's so brilliant. No,
that that's that's a great, great call. We didn't stay retired.
(10:39):
That's genius. That just raised his g P A comes
full circle. Um, but know that that's a great one.
And and I definitely know that to be a fact
because the Mike Tyson fight that happened during the pandemic,
the Mike Tyson Roy Jones fight, of course, that was
one of the top ten paper views in history because
(11:02):
people wanted to see Michael Jordan's has that same thing
that people wanted to see Mike Tyson to see what
was going to happen. There's there's that curiosity there and
there's just certain people that that have that thing. Yeah,
I didn't even think And Michael Jordan's is a great,
great call. Um, My mom was just saying she was
(11:23):
just lipping something. What were you lipping? Mom? Go ahead,
she goes, yeah, Michael Brandon Ralph for that. Mom, don't
don't don't think Michael Jordan, think Brandon Ralph. Don't go anywhere. Hey,
Pam will be right back after a word from our sponsors. Alright,
(11:48):
So now, my friend, we are going our Pal. We're
gonna go these our pal We're gonna go into our
hey pal movie scenings. So each episode we seed movies,
um and uh, we ask people, you know, what is
their favorite movie and and and under a certain category.
So this category, yeah, yeah, because because because you've played superheroes,
(12:11):
were obviously giving Brandon Ralph, he's gonna it's it's the
end of the show. So we we like to call
it the playoff brackets. So this is gonna be Brandon
Ralph superhero movies playoff brackets. So we're excluding but excluding
the Man of Steel. Excluding the Man of Steel. We
don't we don't ever we just we don't ever like
you to include. We don't even have to say why.
All right, the guests, the guests, we don't like to
(12:31):
include their own work. So we're gonna go through the brackets.
So we're gonna start, Yes, So we're gonna start with
the brackets. We're gonna go with the number one seed
versus the number eight seeds. So at number one we
have iron Man versus the number eight seed. Gardens of
the Galaxy. Who is moving on the first Ironman or
(12:55):
just iron Man movies? Iron Man movies now let's say
the first we went to the first as iron Man,
which is arguably considered, you know, one of the best.
I love Guardians. I have to go with I shouldn't
that shouldn't be eight? Um, so can I take that
up with the judges? It shouldn't be a but you can.
(13:16):
You can definitely take them up. But I want with
the fans, but I want you. I want you to
hear it, because the fans voted on this, but I
want you to hear the other ones too, so you
might change your mind. Guardians might be any do you
want to do? Should we let Brandon know before so
he has a moment to to to ponder this. Should
we let him know the seeds first? We've never done that.
We could do that. Hey, it's Brandon relth we can
do this. We could do that, all right, protocol for me,
(13:40):
So we'll go over the seeds just so you have
an idea. We just want to let you know, never
done this before, first time ever. So number one, we
have iron Man. Number two, we have Christian Bale's Dark Knight. Okay.
Number three, we have Black Panther okay, number four, we
have Wonder Woman Okay, number five, We have Captain America.
(14:00):
Five is here. Uh wait, I'm pointing for you everyone,
and I have right there. Oh we have five, We
have Captain America. Number six, we have the Avengers. Oh wait,
you know what. You wrote it down twice and this
is your right. Five is spider Man, six is the Avengers,
(14:22):
seven is Captain America, and eight is Guardians of the Galaxy.
That's where the seeding came from. Okay, just so you
have perspective. But so between iron Man and Gardens the Galaxy,
who's moving on? I guess? I guess I go with
iron Man just because it's the one that started at all. Okay,
and the one seed holds home court, and it's the
(14:42):
one that started all because Superman Returns is not involved,
because Superman Returns is really the one that started all. Alright,
so iron Man has advanced. Alright, alright, Brendan Ralph, guess
wonder Woman's on there? The two seed verse, the seventh seed,
(15:03):
The two seed is Dark Night Verse. Seventh seed Captain America,
Captain America. Wow, what can we let's talk about let's
talk about it? What what just happened? Brennan Ralph? Well, uh,
you know, the Dark Knight Like, that's a great I
guess that's probably my that's the first of the band movies. Yeah,
(15:23):
that was a second. Batman Begins was the first one.
The Dark was one with, so I don't like number
two anyway. Wait, wait, No two is Ledger The Dark
Knights one with Heath Ledger, which we were talking about
villains earlier in Brandon. I don't know your opinion, but
my opinion is that that is the greatest villain villain
acting job I've I've ever seen. I mean, I forgot that.
(15:47):
I was just thinking about, uh, well this is twofold
now because you already gave an answer, this might have
your life at this point, I think I think I
still pick it, like if I'm going to watch it,
like these are my my I'm gonna watch. I'm gonna
watch Captain America before I'm gonna watch. There you go.
This is Brandon Ralph. I like that and amazing in that.
(16:10):
But as a this is post pandemic Brandon Ralph. He
doesn't want to be in a dark place post That's
always the thing about Batman anyway for me. Yeah, alright,
fair enough. Now we're gonna take a quick break in
the seating and you are now going to do the
hate Pal spelling B. We have a quick spelling bee
while you think of these other movies. So I'm gonna
(16:31):
give you and Jared a word. It's a spelling bee
competition and uh you got We'll see who wins. Who's
the better speller between you two. Yeah, I mean obviously
I'm a world champion and this will definitely affect the
life g p A because it's it's it's spelling. So
all right, are you guys ready? He has not told
me I do not know the word brandon. By the way,
(16:51):
I'm gonna have you want to go first? You want
Jared to go first. I won't google it either. Okay, no,
hands up? You want to go first, you want Jarry
to go first? I'll go first. All right. The word
for the Apal spelling B this week is appropriately it's kryptonite.
Do you want me to use it in a sentence? Oh? Yeah,
(17:11):
I can do the origin origin. It comes from a planet.
It comes from outside of the universe. Is the origin?
You know the planet? And uh, I would say that
Jared is my kryptonite. That would be me using it
in a sentence. Jared is my kryptonite. So I'm gonna
spell it, and he's just gonna say if it's right
(17:32):
or not. No, no, you're gonna spell it, and then
I'm gonna have him spell it, and then I will
tell you who the winner is. Do you still want
to go first or you want me to go first? Well?
I know how to spell it. You do know how
to spell it? Well, look at the confidence. Look at
the confidence. You know how to spell it. I'll spell
it a ready all right, ready, okay, hopefully uh I
(18:00):
have to write it down. So weird, he's he's feeling over,
he feels the crowd. It's fourth quarter time. He was
so cropt. He goes, oh, I know how to spell this.
I got this. Everyone needs to see this, right, wow?
I wish everyone could see that. Okay, k why are
(18:26):
this is amazing? Oh oh no, that's a t okay.
I don't spell things like this. This is epic. Why
are O P T O N I T E? Okay,
that is good, Brandy, you look confused. You were so
competent out of the gate. Devo's crying, right, I mean,
(18:49):
I literally wiping game over over. No, go ahead, Jared,
Now you spell kryptonite. I can use it in a sense. Again,
Jared is my kryptonite. I mean I would have said
I think we said the same thing. I would have
said K kryptone. Yeah, I would have said. I might
have said K if he hadn't have done the Y
so early, I might have said k R Y. Well,
there's cryptocurrency now, I mean kryptonite. I'll do K y
(19:15):
A I P T O N I T No, sir, No,
that's the same thing that he just said. No, he
didn't say that. He said K What what'd you brandon?
Say it again? He doesn't know what he said. He's
so confused. Yeah, because that's how I was having the confusion. Well,
(19:39):
you changed it. You just changed it. What was it?
What was the one I I don't remember what you
said K y R and then I didn't. I didn't
change it back to k R, not not until right now.
But because you're the guest, I'm gonna allow you to
spell it one more time. Spell it one more time,
Brendan Ralph's spelling crypto. I've typed it into the right.
(20:04):
He was wrong initially, and I was wrong, and you
were wrong. We both did. You were both wrong, and
I'm devastated. I'm actually devastated, you know why, because I
can't spell it. I can't picture it in my head.
If I write it down, I can picture, but I
would not be good at spelling bees because trying to
visualize it then I couldn't put it in the right
(20:24):
or when I typed it in here, I typed it
in right. All right, So both your guys g p
as have been affected, are live, gps of gone. We're
going to move on. This was a complete bus today.
If it makes you feelingly better, be Ralph. I have
lost to every guest in the spelling because Jared spelling
is not his skill set. But then again, that's why
he's managing in RBS in Oklahoma. So let's move on
(20:48):
to re seed versus six Z the bracket. We're going
back to our three seed. The three seed is Black
Panther versus the sixth seed Avengers. Who do you have? Uh?
Black Panther versus who? Oh that's a tough matchup. Also, um,
(21:10):
black Panthers amazing the technology all of it, but Avengers
are like the whole team and the Avengers like for
me is that's what I like most about all of it.
So it's everyone the team up all right, impressive. So
we're down to iron Man, Captain America and Avengers and
(21:30):
then the four seed verse five seed be Ralph. We've
got wonder Woman at the four seed verse, the five
seed the original spider Man, the Toby McGuire Spider Man.
I really like that Spider Man, but the original wonder
Woman is pretty it was pretty awesome. I have to
go for one d C. So I'm gonna go for
wonder Woman. Wonder Woman held court. Wonder Woman was the
was the four seed. Alright, So we have our finals
(21:53):
now in our playoff movie seeds we have iron Man,
Captain America, Avengers, and under Woman. So our first semi final,
iron Man versus Captain America. H he's got a great profile,
(22:15):
great profile. The guy's a model iron again iron Man,
iron Man beating Captain America. Alright? One? Okay, So who
will iron Man play in the b Ralph the Mr
Brandon Ralph playoff bracket? Will it be the six seed
Avengers or the four seed wonder Woman? The Aves iron
(22:39):
Man might have some competition. So we have a one
versus a six. Here we go, all right, Davo, take
us home. That's incredible. Alright. The championship, Mr Ralph, we
have the number one Iron Man versus the number six Avengers.
Who is your hey Pal champion? Well, I'm taking this
(23:00):
as the Avengers as in, like all, I guess we're going.
Really what we're doing is the Avengers, the first Avengers film.
But that may be the situation. So I may be
a little bit off here because I'm going just with
thinking of all the other Adventures films, um, but I'm
still going to go with Avengers. That's six. I like,
I like a teams in that. So yeah, that's true.
(23:23):
I don't think we've ever seen a six beat. We've one.
I mean, that's incredibly Here on the hay Peal Podcast
with Brandon Ralph, do we get to see that? Amazing?
There we go amazing? All right, And with that being said,
we're gonna do our last segment of the day. It's
called the Haypal Penalty Box. I'm gonna ask you a
series of questions. You just answer is quickly as possible
as quickly rapid far. Are you ready, sir? Yes? All right?
(23:57):
Favorite cereal? Oh I don't eat cereal anymore, but honey
bunches of votes, honey bunch. That is that is a
good Should we just end it right now? I mean
we can't end it with that, but that's a great
favorite cartoon excluding Superman cartoon excluding Superman favorite cartoon? Uh oh,
(24:27):
fast answer? What was my favorite cartoon? I'm bad at these,
but you whether are coming into my mind or he
Man and the Gummy Bears end of the spectrum, Gummy
Bears or care Bears, The Gummy Bears? The Cummy Gummy
Bears was amazing? Was Gummy Bears? Yeah, saying hey, I'll
(24:51):
see thanks for coming Brandon. They are the bear. And
it wasn't brought to you by Harribo hair Abow. It wasn't. No,
it wasn't it was. It was a Disney show, all right.
So you had a funny question today that you want
to ask in the penalty box. Yeah? For what it
was had to do with someone lending borrowing something. No,
(25:12):
it's wearing. Oh yeah yeah, So would you would you
rather wear somebody's somebody else's ear AirPods air pods or
where somebody else's boxers from airs? Do you know most
of my friends, Brandon, I'm not kidding you, like they
(25:33):
all say I'd rather put on someone else's boxers because
I don't. I'm not putting someone else's ears in my
in my ears, like all the all the wax and everything. Yeah, no,
no you can't. You cannot take it. You just eat,
just take it, take the air pods and put them
in your ears. Yeah, yeah, exactly, yeah yeah, Kyle. Kyle's like, Kyle,
what do you take? All right? If you could eat
(25:54):
one food, only one food, the rest of your life,
only one food item, what would it be? Probably pizza? Pizza?
What kind? Chicago, New York? Uh? More of a New York?
I mean not but but not not uh not deep dish? Okay,
(26:15):
and and and Brandon Ralph our last question here on
the Hate Pal podcast and here on the Penalty might
have the last one. This is the last. This is
the last. Brandon Ralph is doing a scene. It is
the final scene of a movie. And you need to
have this scene be the best it can be. You
need to take it home. Who does Brandon Ralph pick?
It is the fourth quarter, there's ten seconds on the
(26:37):
shot clock. Who does Brandon Ralph pick to be in
a scene opposite him? You can pick anybody who is
challenging Brandon Ralph and lifting lifting those those acting skills
to the next level. And he can't pick. Anybody needs
to be a working actor, so you will. You can't
participate in this working He's never picking, He's never picking me.
Let's go be Ralph. Who are you picking? Uh? I
(27:01):
mean I'm gonna go. I mentioned earlier and I think
it's I'd love to be able to work with him someday.
Tom Hanks, Tom Hanks, great ground grounded, yea aristhmatic. I
think we can make that, Brandon, Brandon Ralph. We're making
We're that is devo in our goal. I think we
can make here on the Haypal Podcast, We're gonna make
it happen. I mean, I got jar, I got Jared.
(27:22):
The gig is Wilson and I'll never will make you
and I'll never forget that. Thank you, Um, Brandon, amazing
guest on the Haypal podcast. Thank you so much for
taking the time today. We appreciate it. And uh, I
got it. We got a clock one more yeah, yeah,
(27:44):
one more time. Awesome, Brandon, you are the best. We
thank you from us here at Haypal and uh and
we wish you nothing but the best, and I'll talk
to you soon, awesome next time. I appreciate it. Amazing
Such a good dude, I mean, the best, such a
It always amazes me that you have such good people
in your life. I don't I don't know where there's
a disconnect. He's such a good guy. I'm trying. I've
(28:06):
tried not to laugh at these jokes, but I just
can't help myself. But what's worse is I'm saying this
in front of your mom, who I adored. Yeah, but
it's just like stoning you like Biblically, it's like a
biblical stoning. So does my g p A go up? Then?
Because I have friends like that, it does help. It
definitely helped. What am I? You never told me what
I was at? I told you three point oh for myself?
(28:27):
What am I at? David? I mean, look, I I
love you, and you're you know, you're a lovable uh
You're you're like a little teddy bear. So you know
you're in the threes in there, You're in the threes alright.
Hopefully in a couple of years will be a three
point four or higher. Yeah, I mean, look, we'll get
Kyle's g p A up and we'll figure out something.
If you had better Hairy'd probably go up. And then
