Hey everyone, let's make sure you guys can hear me
first pair with us as brand new process, our first
live rewatch. So it's gonna we're working through it together.
First of all, it's good to see you guys all again.
I'm really excited to do this. I was talking with
Jackson this morning. I have not rewatched this game in years,

and we were kind of joking, We're like, oh, should
we like do a bunch of prep should we rewatch it?
Jackson was like watching the video and he made it
a few minutes in and you know, as a basketball fan,
you just want to like keep watching it, but he
shut it down. We're gonna go into this with fresh eyes.
I really really want to like reapproach this game with
a clean perspective. We're gonna obviously, we're not gonna watch
the entirety of the game. We're gonna focus on the

first chunk of the game, the first like till the
first TV time out, like the first six minutes or so,
and then we're gonna skip ahead to the second half
and we'll watch the entirety of the second half. The
reason why we wanted to show the beginning is just
it's such class. Well, Jackson, why don't you tell everybody
what the first six minutes is?

Like? Yeah, so I rewatched the first six minutes of
this game, and it is so intense and it's so loud,
I kind of forgot what the Oracle Arena experience is like.

Speaker 4 (01:28):
It is.

Speaker 3 (01:29):
It is an absolute chaos factory in there. It is,
it is, it's and it's definitely Game seven VOD. Everyone
is tight, there's a lot of misjump shots. It feels
like a Game seven and the truest of ways.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Yeah, there's a level of intensity that you get to
and we've seen a few of them over the years.
Obviously we felt it even at the beginning of the
thunder Pacers Game seven back in June before Tyrese got hurt.
But like, there's very much like a who's gonna be
confident and play like their brand of basketball type of
energy in the arena, and like, obviously we get an

insane performance out of Draymond in this one. Jackson was
saying at the end of the first half, he had
like twenty two six and five with two steals. Outrageous,
just like crazy, crazy performance from him that like kind
of sets the tone for the night and but and similarly,
like you get like a Jr. Smith flurry in there
that we're gonna see, like you just see different little

contributions along the way, and then ultimately it grinds down
to a halt. And in that fourth quarter, we know
the final score was like eighteen to thirteen in the quarter,
which is like textbook like super slow pace like that
eighteen points was actually a ninety offensive rating from the
Caves in the fourth quarter, which isn't as bad as
it looks, but it just is more to show you

the pace, like it just grinds to a halt in
those final few possessions. But I'm really excited to get into.
One of the things we're gonna do too, is we're
gonna keep the audio for like the arena and the
announcers and stuff a little bit higher for this first
six minutes because I just want to help you guys
kind of remember and feel the energy in the arena.

And then obviously when we go to the second half,
we'll cut it down lower and we'll focus more on
the basketball chess match that's taking place.

Here you could see the overall tightness again like you
mentioned the jump shots. Like I think in like one
of the things that I've been along a big believer.
I've one of the games I called out for this
years ago was Goshi. Which game was it? I think
it was like it was right before r J. Barrett.
I can't remember if it was when he was with

the Knicks or when he was with the Raptors, but
I remember watching him like shooting a bunch of corner
threes and stuff, and I remember sitting there thinking like
these games, these big game sevens, these big pivotal playoff games,
they're not about making shots as much as they are
about winning all these physical battles because there's a certain
amount of them they're going to go in. But like
there's a reason why all these games finished like eighty

nine to ninety three, you know, instead of one twelve
to one oh eight, And it's because a lot of
times it's about who makes the least amount of mistakes,
who has the fewest turnovers, who plays the most like
mistake free basketball, and wins all these like musical altercations
all over the floor, and it's just kind of interesting
to see how you see like the Kyrie and Lebron

are what one for four on jump shots here early
Steph and Clay have a couple of really bad misses. Yeah,
you have role players that are going to get some
open looks that may or may not go in, And
yeah Draymond made some, j R. Smith made some. But
it's just so much about playing mistake free basketball. And
at this point in the series too, like everyone knows
what they're doing, everyone knows what the other team is

trying to do. You're kind of giving up the same
things a possession of possession throughout the process. And yeah,
it's just like these series, man, these teams became so
familiar with each other over the course of these years.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
And the mistake free basketball thing is such an interesting
point because I completely agree watching this game, that's what
it feels like. And that's something that we on this show,
you on this show, and people in general have talked
about as more of a twenty twenty five basketball concept.
It was less less targeting back you know, ten years ago,
more about top end superstars less and where now it's
more about having a well rounded roster try to play

mistake free basketball. And that's definitely true, but it was
still true at the at least at the highest levels
of basketball at this point. Like maybe not in the
regular season, maybe not in the first couple of rounds
of the playoffs, but between these two teams, it is
just as much about who the weaklink is as who
the best player is.

Speaker 2 (12:15):
Absolutely. I mean, like, Golden State's playing better to start
this game, right, They're getting some really clean looks around
the rim, and like two of those misses from Festest
were really good contests, like where he got met up top,
So like you want to give credit to Cleveland's defense,
but like Festest getting a defensive rebound just ripped out
of his hands. That's a stop that turned into two

points for Cleveland because Festest didn't chin the basketball properly,
like which is a small fundamental thing, right, Or like
Harrison Barnes randomly forcing like a tough, contested, leaning floater
with team on the shot clock when he didn't beat
his man off the dribble, Like that's a force, right,
And like those are those things that like over the

course of a game that's this slows boring, are the
difference between winning and losing quite literally.

It's just great awareness from Curry.

can literally see him land with his body turned back
towards his left, towards this horrors table. Like, that's such
impressive footwork. The way he squares up.

The ability to work off of screams, goodlock and trail possession.
You kind of have to concede somebody super tough. I mean,
he's the best to ever do it.

Had the Warriors won this game and Draymond won finals MVP,
would that have actually hurt Steph's legacy? Like we all
knew the stupid Finals MVP narrative that sicked him until
twenty twenty two. So as good as Draymond was, and
this is where it gets tricky, Like Draymond would have
helped win a pivotal game, but once again we're still

seeing all of the same advantage creation. Like we've seen
Steph generate extremely high quality looks in this game where
he didn't get credited for an assist. I mean we
got one in the first six minutes with that Draymond dunk.

Part of the reason why Draymond had thirty something points
in this game thirty five, I believe, is he's getting
basically left wide open by a lebron on who is
roaming off of him to help on all of these
screening actions off the ball. It's like Draymond getting Finals
MVP in twenty sixteen would have been exactly like on
Drake Guidala getting Finals MVP in twenty fifteen. It would

have been a lack of a fundamental understanding of how
basketball works. And so yeah, I think like you could
have seen some bad actors cling to that narrative. But
to me, if you win the title, step is still
clearly the engine driving everything. And deserving a Finals MVP,
and obviously at that point he would have been a
back to back champion with a legitimizing win against the

Cavs team that he beat that was injured the year before.
So like, but this is where it's always a game
of inches, right, This is the beautiful thing about the
world of sports. Like you just the entire era is
looked at differently, and in large part because of a
small stretch of basketball in that fourth quarter that literally
could have gone either way. You know, like if Lebron
