Exactly two weeks ago Charlie Kirk was politically assassinated and now today, another ideological attack on a Dallas ICE facility has left 1 detainee dead and 2 others critically injured. The gunman turned the gun on himself, but his engraved bullet casings seem to reveal his motive: “ANTI-ICE”.  With politicians pointing the finger at each other’s rhetoric, who is to blame for this escalating political violence and who can bring the temperature down?

Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey, that folks did is Wednesday, September the twenty fourth,
And I guess this is just who we are now,
welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ and who
we are robes?

Speaker 2 (00:12):
Are we a society? Are we a country?

Speaker 1 (00:14):
Are we people now who handle our grievances with bullets?
Because now here we go again they're talking about another targeted,
possibly politically targeted attack at an ICE facility in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (00:24):
Yeah, I mean that is what it appears to be.
And the problem is not only are we seeing people
taking their anger out with bullets, but then immediately the
dust hasn't even settled, and then we have everyone pointing
politically at one another. You're to blame, your rhetoric is
causing this, and so that just further inflames the problem

(00:47):
and further divides our country in such a frustrating, sad,
scary way.

Speaker 1 (00:53):
And we were hoping after the I don't know, maybe
the memorial service on Sunday with Charlie Kirk was a
moment that we could all reflec We even had Jimmy
Kimmel come back on the air last night, and look,
he still told some jokes and went after the president,
but he at least was able to tone down and
walk back some of the stuff that inflame people. But
here we are today it ramps right back up, and

(01:13):
it's not just the attack.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Like you said, Robes, it didn't take long at all.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
And you know, I should go back and look at
how many minutes it was between us finding out about
the shooting and Cash Mattel and Christy Nome and Carolyn
love Erylyn Levitt going on social media and saying it's
the left.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Yeah, it wasn't long at all. I can tell you that.
But just to recap, I'm sure many of you already
know the details, but to let you know what happened
at a Dallas ice facility this morning. It was shortly
after seven am local time that a shooter who has
been identified at this point, but according to witnesses, started
firing indiscriminately at the ice building there and ended up

(01:58):
killing one victim and critically injuring two others before then
turning the gun on himself. And it was he died
by a self inflicted gunshot wound. But we know he
is twenty nine year old Joshua John And we saw
that at least one of the shellcasings but they said
several of them had anti ice messaging engraved on the

(02:21):
bullet casings, which also seems to now be something that
we're seeing over and over again.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
I used to where do we used to hear this
se coming up? Was it movies? Got a bullet with
your name on it? Where was that?

Speaker 3 (02:34):
I don't know. You're right, that's a saying.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
But now it's a.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
That takes time, Right, you have to sit down and
write or edge or schedule that. What is These could
just be sick individuals, right, and these could be copycats
and maybe they're being inspired by other people doing this
type of thing, or maybe it is we're too hot
in our rhetoric these days. It does not really matter.
The point is that they say, and they called him

(03:01):
a sniper. They said he was essentially on a roof
firing at will at this facility. Now he had anti
ice messaging, and there's been a lot of discussion anti
ice messaging as of late. They are just doing their jobs.
They are instructed to go pick up these folks, carry
out this mission, do this, do that. It is not

(03:23):
their fault, but they seem at least rogues based on
the bullets the ice agents were the target.

Speaker 2 (03:30):
However, not a single one was injured.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
Not a single ICE officer was injured at all. In fact,
I guess if that was this shooter's intention, it's ironic, Baus.
He ended up shooting and critically injuring and killing folks
who were there trying to figure out their immigration status

(03:52):
and detainees. Yes, we know the one. We don't have
any names. They're not releasing any names. We know one
of the two who was critically injured is a Mexican nationals.
So you fire indiscriminately at a building that houses detainees,
people who are trying to figure out their immigration status
and go through the legal channels, and then you also
have ICE agents so just to just be spraying bullets.

(04:15):
We don't have any details about how many bullets, but
there were witnesses said they heard about twenty shots. And
this just seems well, I mean, President Trump said it.
The shooting is despicable, and it certainly is. And that's
something I guess we can all agree on.

Speaker 2 (04:30):
Yeah, and that's kind of it.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
That's where we stop. Everybody agrees this is despicable. We
should leave it there, because then the next thing and
the next thing, and the next thing comes out of
the president's mouth or this person's mouth, and the left
and the right of whoever it may be. And yes,
we're going to get into how this is now ramped
up and how we can I don't know what we
could do to calm it down when the President of
the United States, with the bully pulpit he has, is
screaming that it's the far left. It's the far left.

(04:54):
We'll get into his truth social post here in just
a second. This the suspect don't know at this point
a whole lot about him, other than a self inflicted
gunshot wound. What his motivations might be, you can only
assume based on what we know so far. Cash Betel,
the FBI director, did put out that he even included

(05:15):
a picture in.

Speaker 2 (05:15):
His post of the bullets. Yes, but this is what
you can guess.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
They're guessing at this point what his motive is, but officially.

Speaker 3 (05:24):
We do not know that's true, and even his own
family is guessing. His brother spoke to NBC News and
said this, and this was really puzzling, said that he
did not think his brother was politically even interested in anything,
and he had no idea why he would especially have
any political notions or any sort of negative feelings towards iist.

(05:48):
He couldn't offer any explanation. He was raised in Texas,
he's a registered independent, So a lot of this is
puzzling and head scratching. Hearing that his own family said
he had seen his brother two weeks ago at a
family dinner and he was unemployed and was about to
move back in with his parents, but had no indication
that anything was off with him. He did describe his

(06:10):
brother as unique.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Well was the age, I'm sorry, twenty nine years old?

Speaker 3 (06:13):
The shooter right, The shooter was twenty nine years old,
and he described his brother as unique and left it
at that, didn't give any further description. So perhaps this
was something, and maybe these cases are isolated where you've
got mentally ill.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
He was unique, as he said, that's what his brother described.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
He said he didn't think he was political at all,
but that he was a unique individual.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
This facility, yes, it is a place where they do
detain folks, but also other folks have to come in
at times to do essentially a check in. They physically
come in. They have offices like that here in New
York as as well. We see we see lines of
folks oftentimes, so these are very busy and at that
time of day, early in the morning. From our experience,
they show up early since might have been a very

(06:53):
crowded place.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
At this time.

Speaker 3 (06:54):
Yes, we used to live almost directly across from one
of the Ice agencies here in New York City, and
it was like clockwork around seven am every morning. You
have a very long line of people waiting patiently to
try and get in despite the weather. And so yes,
it was about that time of morning where you would
see people going in trying whatever business they have with

(07:15):
the agency. So just to fire at this facility, and
I believe he was firing towards there was a sally
port there, there was some people getting in and out.
So it's just it's there is no explanation we have seen.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
At least Christy Noham wanted to remind us the Homeland
Security Secretary that this facility, if it wasn't this summer,
it might have just been last month that they were
the target of another attack that attacked being a bomb threat.
Somebody walked in, so they had a bomb, so they
had a detonator. They had to shut the place down
and whatnot. They arrested that person. But ICE facilities these
days are targets. They are We've seen what was the

(07:54):
case here in New York where the wasn't a bunch
of politicians like rushed an ICE or a couple rushed
ICE facility to make a point and.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
They were arrested.

Speaker 1 (08:02):
They're just targets for protests, they're targets for politicians trying
to make a point. They're just targets. And for this
to happen here today, and the timing robes were two
weeks is it two weeks ago? It was two weeks
ago today, Charlie Kirk? Was it really two weeks ago?
So we're trying to heal, get past that still mourn

(08:23):
that was politically motivated violence this today it certainly has
to look.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
That way, yes, And with the bullet casings that read
anti ICE, at least the one that we saw in
the FBI director's post on X certainly would indicate that.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
Now.

Speaker 3 (08:40):
It's interesting too, because we've been talking about this on
our morning run podcast. Gavin Newsom just is now trying
to make sure that ICE agents who typically or have
been wearing masks for security reasons need to be unmasked now.
But when you see about and you see and hear
about violence like this, you can understand why ICE agents

(09:01):
have been wearing masks when they perform their duties. Because
they have said their targets of violence, their families have
been targeted, and having folks know their identities can be
a security issue for them. So a lot of times
these agents will be wearing masks as they do their jobs.
And when you see something like this happen, you kind

(09:22):
of get it.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
You can't argue with that. I get the other side
arguing we don't even know who you are. Were masked
men come here taking you in the middle of the night,
and people just disappearing. I get that, but Jesus scribing
me how given what we are in the doxing situation,
the idea that you identify somebody and then go put
their phone number in their address online for all to see.
You go after their livelihood because they're just doing their job.

(09:45):
These are law enforcement agents. They are just doing the
job life. Yes, they got families, They're trying to make
a living, and this is how they're doing it. I
know a lot of people don't agree with the work
that they're doing.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
But it is.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
It is dangerous work. It's posed to be this type
of thing. You're not supposed to go to work and
have to dodge bullets when your job is to enforce immigration.
You're not not on some gang squad, You're not some
anti mob. No, you're This is not.

Speaker 2 (10:16):
Supposed to be how it is.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
You have to We got to worry about everything. We
need to worry about every politician. We need worry about
everybody who opens their mouth in public to talk about politics.
We need to worry about Jimmy Kimmel. We just had
the guy found guilty who was trying to shoot the
president last year. I mean this it feels like the norm.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
It does, and I think the sad thing is that, yes,
we can be angry about it, we can be upset
about it. We can ask questions, we can try to
figure out how to bring the temperature down. But I
assure you immediately pointing the finger at the other side
of the aisle, and it now just further creates this
divide of Republicans versus democrats, democrats versus Republicans. That is

(10:57):
not making things better, That is making things worse. This
could be some person who needed mental health help, and
let's just be honest. If someone is upset or has
a problem with an agency or with how things are
being done, healthy mentally healthy people don't go and then

(11:21):
just indiscriminately shoot. So then to just immediately blame a
political party for the actions of specific people. Now, we
can all do better and be really careful with our words.
I think what we've learned here is no matter what
side of the aisle you're on, your words do matter.
Your words are carry weight, and your words can be

(11:43):
weapons or used to justify violence. And that is what
we're seeing here. So this is making me actually feel
ill just seeing the immediate reaction. We don't even take
a beat to try and figure out what happened, how
it happened, why it happened. We just immediately take it
for political gain to then use it against the other

(12:06):
side to further our cause and to be righteous. It's
we're right, you're wrong, we're good, you're bad. Every time
this happens. That is what occurs almost immediately.

Speaker 1 (12:17):
To your point, how immediate was this truth social from
mister Presidents. The brave men and women of Ice are
just trying to do their jobs to remove the worst
of the worst criminals out of our country, but they
are facing an unprecedented increase in threats, violence, and attacks
by deranged radical leftists. This violence is the result of

(12:40):
the radical left Democrats constantly demonizing law enforcement, calling for
ICE to be demolished, and comparing ICE officers to Nazis.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
He has a.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Really, really long social media post about this. We've seen
him go off in social media before, this is one
of the longer ones he took time. I'm calling on
all Democrats to stop this rhetoric against ICE and America's
law enforcement right now. That was his tone. Senator Ted Cruz,

(13:15):
Republican of Texas, stay here because we want you to
hear how he had a much different tone from the
site of today's shooting. All right, folks, we are back
now continuing with another breaking new story, another breaking new

(13:39):
story about messages on bullets meant for potentially ICE agents.
Now shooting at the field office for the ICE Agency
down in Dallas has resulted in at least one person
being killed. To are in critical condition as of this recording.
We are told they are not law enforcement officers. They
are apparently possibly we're detainees who were there at the

(14:01):
facility the shooter he led. Shooter was found, according to authorities,
dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound. How do you
like this line? Here, robes from the president. I'm calling
on all where is it? Let me skip skip skip
stop this rhetoric right now?

Speaker 2 (14:16):
Rooting for here it is.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
Violent, illegal criminals, fully rooting out the left wing, domestic
terrorism that is terrorizing our country. It's a long post,
and in several points he says left left, democrat, democrat,
a lot of caps, a lot of exclamation points. He
puts that out there are radicals, there are folks.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
That are disturbed. You have to be disturbed to do
something like this.

Speaker 1 (14:45):
Obviously he's putting it all in one place. What does
that do for? Doesn't that or how does that? How
does he how is he speaking to his own followers?
Is he sending out a message? Is that going to
be interpreted as we have to fight back, take action,
We have to load our guns. I don't know how

(15:08):
that could be.

Speaker 3 (15:09):
Were we hearing fight fire with fire? We need to
rise up battle cries warriors?

Speaker 2 (15:15):
Some Democrats?

Speaker 3 (15:15):
Yes, I mean the problem is, how is what President
Trump is saying any different than what he's accusing the
far left of doing which there. So we've got President Trump,
we've got Cash Mattel, we've got Carolyn Levitt all pointing
the finger at Democrats. But when you use words like
President Trump is using demonizing the left, how is that

(15:40):
then not concerning that you could have extremists, radical right
wing folks who might have their issues as well. Why
wouldn't that then cause or potentially stir up those folks
to then create violence and retaliation. Like my point is,
he's not bringing the temperature down. As the president, I

(16:01):
would love to see him. Yes, he can be angry,
Yes he can be pissed to but his job is
to lead and to create a safe environment for all
of us. Fanning the flames, fueling the fire and pointing
the finger in a general direction, in my opinion, is
dangerous and it's just concerning. Carolyn Lovett wrote this, Democrats

(16:26):
must stop demonizing the heroic men and women of Ice
who are just doing their jobs to keep America safe.
But Democrats must stop demonizing the heroic men and women
of Ice. That is also completely now demonizing Democrats. So
does anyone not see that an eye for an eye

(16:49):
makes everyone blind?

Speaker 1 (16:50):
There's plenty of this to go around both sides. Yeah,
And I don't think you should demonize an ice agent. Fine,
I don't either.

Speaker 2 (16:56):
I agree with that one hundred percent. But why do
we have to? I guess it's just.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Politics and now, but it's dangerous. But people are getting killed,
right political rhetoric now seems it really does? Or should
we not even go that far?

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Is it the rhetoric?

Speaker 1 (17:16):
Is it fair to blame? To blame the heated political environment?
Are we any more heated than we're used to being?

Speaker 3 (17:23):
I feel like it. I do think so. I think
words are being used and language is being used freely,
and social media has a lot to do with it.
People still say it in front of microphones. People will
still say it and own it. But putting it out
like that in writing on social media, I think carries
a lot of weight. And I do think that this

(17:44):
is incredibly frustrating watching adults just play the blame game
instead of actually trying to figure out what the problem
is and how to solve it. We just they're both
sides are using it for political gain, to rally their base,
to get people out to vote, to get re elected,
to be the good guy. And I think it's self serving,
and it's serving no one.

Speaker 2 (18:07):
Rally the base some of that.

Speaker 1 (18:10):
Sometimes you're rallying the extreme elements of your base, and
we have to I don't know, robes when it's gonna
come down. I was hopeful last night after Jimmy Kimmel,
I was hopeful. I'm like, wow, a comedian, a late
night comedian, is the healer that we all need.

Speaker 2 (18:29):
Now.

Speaker 1 (18:29):
A lot of people still had a problem with what
he said, didn't like him, criticize it. But I'm saying
he spoke in such a way that I made a mistake.
I think I acknowledged, he acknowledged. I understand why you
all are upset. It wasn't my intent, and it all
was genuine. I think he's being viewed that way. That
was an opportunity to bring the temperature down. The next day,

(18:51):
we're right back up. Don't you remember times during national
tragedies we came together. Presidents step out.

Speaker 2 (18:58):
And what do they do.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
They heal, They make you feel better, it's gonna be okay.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
That's the word ropes.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
That's what they do when we're scared, when we've been attacked,
when somebody's been killed, when there's fear they unify, they
heal Who is that?

Speaker 2 (19:16):
Who is it now?

Speaker 3 (19:18):
I'm actually trying to think about who that is, and
I no one's coming to mind. I wish someone could
stand up, who could be that person, who could jump in,
who the Democrats and the Republicans would both value in
terms of their opinion, in terms of their way forward.

(19:39):
Because what we're doing now, and I agree with you
on both sides of the aisle is it's so painful
to watch. It's painful.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
So this wasn't again. People got problems with Ted Cruise.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Ted Cruz has, I guess recently, even gotten some some
praise from folks on the level.

Speaker 3 (19:58):
Yes, Jimmy Kimmel mentioned his name.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
He came out and he did stand up and say,
what is happening right now? The attack on the First
Amendment is wrong, he flat out said, with the president
and what the FCC is doing going after ABC is wrong.
He is there, of course, he's a Texas senator. He
happened to be on the scene there today and roads
when he started to speaking, I stopped what I was
doing and I went over and I listened. Now, if
you forget the messenger and people want to be dismissive,
and that's fine, but it was this simple. This needs

(20:23):
to stop. We don't have any problem with that line
right now. Everybody's on board. Next, politically motivated violence is wrong.
We're all okay with that, agreed, okay, And here is
where I sat up to every politician who is using
rhetoric demonizing ICE. Stop, to every politician demanding that ICE

(20:46):
be docked and calling for people to go after their families.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Stop.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
This has very real consequences. Now, he took a shot
at Democrats and probably California. Doesn't that Bill Sill really
feel really ill timed?

Speaker 2 (21:02):
Now?

Speaker 1 (21:03):
Yes, they just signed a law out there saying we
want all you ICE agents to show your faces so
all the whole world can see you when we can
essentially put your faces online. That seems really ill timed
right now.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
Well, certainly with what's happened today, it doesn't seem like
that's a safe thing to do. It doesn't seem like
that's a wise thing to do, and that I don't know,
could that change? I mean, it's already been signed in law.
It wasn't supposed to take effect until next year.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Yeah, but it's they're not necessarily it's never going to
be enforced. Why they're gonna do a police officer are
going to arrest an ice officer because he's got.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
A mask on? Obviously?

Speaker 1 (21:43):
Not this was It's never going to go anywhere. Everybody
understands that. The point is, what does that come off
as that you had a state saying yep, we want
to put y'all out there, you guys that were just
shot at. We want to see your faces so people
can actually target you.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Is how it comes off? Now?

Speaker 3 (22:04):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (22:05):
Man, I would love for them to come back and say,
you know what, let's step back.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
We made a mistake.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
Who is gonna step up and say something that brings
it down? Is it gonna be Gavin News Some people
are listening to him lately. It's not gonna be Trump.
He's not going to be a healer. He hasn't proved
to be that kind of guy. Who clergy, who is
a reverend?

Speaker 2 (22:25):
Who is anybody we're listening to these days.

Speaker 3 (22:27):
We need someone to step up and fill that void
because there is a void. There is a void for
some sort of rational and I like the word you used, healer,
but someone who can unify, someone who can bring us together,
someone who can make us feel like we all have
skin in the game. We all we're all human. I
know that it sounds so basic, but that's really what

(22:48):
this is all about. We're all human. We all want
the same things. We want peace, we want freedom, we
want our families to be safe. We all want that.
It doesn't matter what side of the eyeland or who
you voted for, we all want the same thing. So
who's going to be that person who steps up and
figures out a way to talk to everyone, not just
the people who voted for you. And that's what I'm

(23:10):
frustrated by when I see our politicians today, because it
has gotten worse. Who can you think of who's a
politician who talks to everyone, who works for everyone in
their state, or in their country or in their district.
You can't get elected like that, but couldn't you lead
like that? Couldn't you? You can't get re elected like that,
I guess, But that is just such a sad state

(23:32):
that we've gotten to this place where it's so divisive
that it has inspired or at least emboldened people to
take out their frustration with bullets.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Folks, we say it oftentimes at the end of these
we seem like we've been doing a lot of these
about tragic events. Just take a beat, give everybody a break,
be kind, hug them, tell them you love them.

Speaker 2 (23:59):
The folks life.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
It's just I am scared every morning robes when I
look at that phone for the first time to see
what happened overnight?

Speaker 2 (24:07):
They what happened, What's next.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
I'm nervous about politicians making spe like I would hate
for anything to happen for.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
What that would do through the country. Yes, it's awful.

Speaker 1 (24:19):
I'm worried about Jimmy Kimmel. I'm worried about Trump. I'm
worried about Newsome. I'm worried about all these folks who
put themselves out there in this way, and we shouldn't
be this. Do you remember the sixties, That's what this
feels like.

Speaker 3 (24:31):
I didn't live it, but I've read about it, and
certainly it was historic enough for all of us to
have studied it. But I would also add to what
you said, because I loved what you just said. To
look out for the people in your life. Pay attention
if someone is in distress, if someone seems obsessed with
a situation or apology, like just pay attention to the

(24:52):
family members, your friends, you know. People always after the
fact say I didn't see it coming, or I didn't
realize he even you know, we're here, from his brother
saying I didn't even know he had political leanings. He
was a registered independent, but he there. I just like
I know. We don't want to think that the people
who are around us or in our lives, or who

(25:12):
love us or who our neighbors are capable of this,
but clearly it's happening, from school shootings to these political shooters.
We need to pay attention to the people around us
and support the people who are in our lives to
get them the help they need, because that's a part
of this too, recognizing that there is this potential in

(25:36):
a lot of folks and we just need to pay
attention and be kind and remember that our words matter.

Speaker 2 (25:42):
So with that, folks, we always appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (25:46):
We didn't plan on hopping on and didn't think this
