Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone, and welcome to Morning Run. It's Friday, August eighth.
I'm Amy Robots.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
And I'm TJ Holmes. Happy Friday to you all. A
quick reminder, look at that phone of yours right now
in that Apple podcast app top right corner of the screen,
it says follow. Click that button you can follow us
and get all of our updates. Don't have to look
for him, they will just show up as soon as
we put out new episodes. This morning robes jd Vance
is setting a new standard when it comes to birthday bashes.

(00:34):
He really knows how to blow it out for birthday.
It was a week ago and people are now really
worked up and talking about it. You you're big on birthdays.

Speaker 1 (00:44):
Right, love celebrating birthdays. I think it's super important.

Speaker 2 (00:46):
Okay, he's celebrating and he's not raising the roof for
his No, no, no, he raised the river, setting a
whole new standard. Folks are talking about this. If you
haven't heard, Yes, the river was raised literally so he
could have a birthday. Cell Libration will explain that and
some history behind it as well, and worlds. I look,
I will admit this is remarkable. I did not remember.

(01:08):
I did not realize how many nine eleven victims have
gone unidentified officially, And I'm learning that now through a
story that three victims were just identified twenty four years later,
and so much of that work is still going. I
was floored to hear how many still haven't been identified.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
The numbers are staggering as to how many families don't
really have that closure, weren't ever actually able to have
their loved one identified and have the proper burial that
people of course want for that closure. So, yeah, I
was surprised by it as well.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Yeah, so we're going to get into really an incredible
story and some remarkable work that continues for those nine
eleven victims. But also on this Friday morning, ron a
breaking story this morning, Israel just announcing a plan to
escalate military operations and take over all of Gaza City.
The reaction from the world has been.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Swift and fierce, and the FBI is now getting involved
in rounding up those Texas Democrats who fled the state
to avoid a vote on redistricting. Plus President Trump wants
a new census and he doesn't want everyone counted. Plus
Kelly Clarkson's ex husband has passed away after a private
three year battle with cancer.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
Also on the run this morning, This again, thousands of
LA residents forced to evacuate running from a fire that
has erupted and spread quickly. Also, what in God's name
is going on at WNBA Games? The dildos keep flying

(02:46):
and now another man has been arrested after attempting to
throw yet another sex toy onto the court. This is
a thing now, almost more. There's some official incidents that
have happened, but there are other that people say they
have caught that haven't even caught the attention of police.

Speaker 1 (03:04):
This is so juvenile, but it's dangerous.

Speaker 2 (03:07):
Good good word.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
It is so juvenile. I cannot and it could be,
you know, until somebody gets hurt, and then it's serious.
So I'm glad the rest are being made. But my god,
please everyone stop the madness. All right, We're gonna begin
our Friday morning run overseas with some yes developing and
breaking news. This morning, Israel has announced it is planning
to take control of Gaza City. The Israeli security Cabinet

(03:29):
approved this plan this morning, and the world is reacting.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
What kind of reactions we're talking about well. The United
Nations warned that a military takeover would risk quote catastrophic
consequences for Palestinian civilians and Israeli hostages in Gaza. The
Human Rights Chief said Israel's plan must be immediately halted.
British Prime Minister Kir Starmer said Israel's plan is wrong
and urged Israel to reconsider immediately. Foreign ministers from Australia, Finland, Turkey,

(03:58):
China have all waged in expressing deep concern over Israel's announcement.

Speaker 1 (04:02):
Analysts believe taking over Gaza will involve months and months
of fighting. Israel says it will provide humanitarian aid to
Palestinian citizens, but only outside of combat zone, so outside
of Gaza City. It's an effort to force more Gazans
to evacuate Gaza City. Most of the two million residents, though,
have already been displaced. They're crammed into ten cities. We've

(04:23):
seen the pictures all around the area as authorities continue
to report on the rising death toll from malnutrition and starvation.
Since the beginning of this war, more than sixty one
thousand Palestinians have been killed. According to Gaza's Health Ministry.
And look, there is some hope out there that perhaps
Netnyahuu made this announcement to persuade Hamas to come back
to the negotiating table. This could be a tactic, perhaps,

(04:46):
but there are many others who fear this is going
to happen soon.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
So maybe a bluff.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
That is the hope, but not necessarily the reality.

Speaker 2 (04:54):
All right, folks, let's continue on this Friday morning run
now with the FBI. It's now hot on the trail
of those Texas Democrats who fled their state and fanned
out across the country in what is now the latest
escalation in the ongoing redistricting battle in Texas. Texas Senator
John Cornyn asked the FBI to get involved in tracking

(05:15):
down quote runaway Democrats, and Cornin says the FBI has
granted his request.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
About fifty state Democrats the left last weekend and fanned
out across the country to various friendly Democratic cities. By
fleeing the state, Democrats are preventing, at least for now,
state Republicans from passing a redistricting bill that would redraw
congressional districts to favor Republicans.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Texas Governor Greg Abbot has already instructed Texas law enforcement
to track down, arrest, and return the Democratic lawmakers, but
of course their jurisdiction stops at the Texas border. Abbot
also as the state Supreme Court to remove the Democratic
leader from the state legislature. So the FBI is involved.
Now what exactly can they do? Don't really know, Robes, Oh,

(06:00):
how they could get involved because there is no accusation
any of these lawmakers have committed a federal crime. So
not exactly sure how they're going to help. But just
to hear that the FBI is trying to track down
these Democrats again, an escalation in this whole thing.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Oh my goodness. All right, Next up on I Run.
The President wants a new head count, and he does
not want everybody in the US counted. President Trump announced
Thursday he wants a new census taken which will not
take into account the millions of undocumented immigrants in this country.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Righting gone truth social the President said, I have instructed
our Department of Commerce to immediately begin work on a
new and highly accurate census based on modern day facts
and figures, and importantly, using the results of information gained
from the Presidential election of twenty twenty four, people who
are in our country illegally will not be counted in

(06:52):
the census. Quote, So is the president now talking about
us not doing the census every ten years, but instead
he wants to do a mid decade census.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Right because right now the census is taken every ten years.
The next one is scheduled for twenty thirty. It actually
takes them about ten years to prepare really, so it
seems unlikely that they'd be ready immediately or even soonish
to conduct a new census. Apparently it's still going to
take five more years for them to get that sordid.

Speaker 2 (07:23):
I didn't know they want test runs for this, and
they practice like in years ahead of the time you're counting.

Speaker 1 (07:29):
I never answered the census.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
See, you're the problem. This is why they have to
do this. That's ten years of press. You answer the census, folks. Also,
heads up here, presidents can't just snap the finger and
change the time and method of the census because there
is a Census Act, so Congress would have to get
involved change the law about when the census would take place.
And one other obstacle robes to Trump's plan. Surely he

(07:54):
would be deterred by this thing.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
The Constitution, nah, hasn't stopped him before. The fourteenth Amendment
states the census is account of the number of whole
persons in each state, and courts have already ruled over
the years that that means everybody should be counted, regardless
of their legal status.

Speaker 2 (08:12):
I've learned so much in doing some of the research
about this legal stuff that goes on. It's like schoolhouse
rock every morning, my goodness, and learning about this all right,
continuing on the run here now, and a remarkable reminder
of the work and the healing still taking place. Twenty
four years after the nine eleven attacks, three more victims

(08:33):
killed in those attacks have just been identified by the
New York Medical Examiner.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Two thousand, seven hundred and fifty three people died in
the attacks, but only about forty percent of those killed
were ever positively identified through the remains that were found
at the sites. The three new identifications were possible because
of advancements in DNA technology.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yes, and those identified where a twenty six year old
and a seventy two year old, or two of them.
Ryan Fitzgerald of Long Island. He was twenty six. He
died in the attacks, and also seventy two year old
Barbara Keating of Palm Springs. I was a third victim
whose name was not released. That was by the request
of the family. Now these three victims robes, you gave

(09:13):
the number up there earlier two thousand, seven hundred and
fifty three people died in the attacks. Well, these three
represent the sixteen hundred and fifty first, sixteen hundred and
fifty second, and sixteen hundred and fifty third person to
be positively identified. So to think there's still another thousand
plus wow, that were never positively identified from those attacks.

(09:37):
That I mean, I guess it does make sense. But
I did not realize that number was that high.

Speaker 1 (09:42):
I didn't either, my goodness. But hopefully that does bring
a little closure to those families.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
I'll mention this to you. I don't know why, this
just it's stung a little bit. Barbara Keating, she was
a breast cancer survivor. Oh yeah, it is one of
those things you go through so much in life and
you make it pass and you survive something and then
something like that it's just random.

Speaker 1 (10:01):
And yeah, that does give you chills just to think
what people go through and fight for and then all
of a sudden, in a split second, it could just
all be wiped away. All that courage, all that fighting.
You know, it's just, yes, it's just in one moment,
it's all gone. I get that. That is sad, and
certainly nothing takes away the pain of losing someone, regardless,

(10:22):
but especially in that fashion. All right. Next up on
the Run, Brandon Blackstock, the ex husband of Kelly Clarkson,
has passed away after a private three year battle with cancer.
Clarkson had just announced the day before she was postponing
her August dates of her Vegus residency, saying she needed
to be fully present for her children because their father
was ill, and that's the first we had heard about this.

(10:44):
Clarkson has two children with Blackstock, a ten year old daughter,
River and an eight year old son, Remy.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
Blackstock's family rap released a statement saying it is with
great sadness that we share the news that Brandon Blackstock
has passed away. Brandon bravely battled cancer for more than
three years. He passed away peacefully and was surrounded by family.
We thank you for your thoughts and prayers and ask
everyone to respect the family's privacy during this very difficult time.

(11:12):
Clarkson and Blackstock married back in twenty thirteen. They were
married for seven years, fall for divorce in twenty twenty.
I think Grobes it really caught a lot of people's
attention because it seemed obviously like such an urgent matter
for her to just shut down her life, if you will,
the professional part of correct, to just head back. We

(11:32):
wondered what in the world could be going on in
whow I guess we now know she knew so much.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
More than exactly and she had taken a leave of
absence from her show, her talk show in the spring
and never explained it, just said it was a private matter.
And so a lot of people are now connecting the
dots saying it appears that she did go back and
was trying to help her children visit their father, facilitate
more visits, and she just needed to be more present.
So that's likely the reason why she never explained or

(11:59):
discuss because he wanted to keep his illness private.

Speaker 2 (12:02):
Well good, you know, good on all of them here,
and I hope they do get privacy. This is something
they did very privately. Yes, right, this wasn't out there at.

Speaker 1 (12:10):
All, No, it was not. It was not no, and
they had a very contentious divorce, So it does appear
that any of those old wounds were healed as she
was trying to help him and her children navigate a really,
really tough situation. All right. Next up on the Run,
we're going to head to southern California, where a brush
fire in Los Angeles quickly spread in a matter of

(12:31):
hours and it forced thousands of evacuations. It's now called
the Canyon Fire. It began around one thirty in the
afternoon yesterday and burned fifteen hundred acres in just five hours.

Speaker 2 (12:42):
Yeah, four thousand residents under evacuation orders. Now, nearly fifteen
hundred structures are at risk. Another twelve thousand residents are
under an evacuation warning. The fire is zero percent contained,
it is spreading east. Hundreds of firefighters on the ground
battling this thing, and there's an extreme heat out there
causing problems. It's low humidity as well, creating all these

(13:05):
dangerous conditions for the fire to spread and what officials
are calling an alarming speed.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
Yes, and this is just the newest fire in California,
because already there are thousands of firefighters in that state
fighting the Gifford Fire, which is now the state's largest
fire of the year. It's already burned nearly one hundred
thousand acres and right now it's only fifteen percent contained,
and it's threatening hundreds of homes. So those firefighters and

(13:31):
emergency workers are busy and dealing with just really tough
conditions with thick brush and just awful weather.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
All right, well, folks, stay with us here on this
Friday morning run. When we come back, it continues to
happen at a w NBA game, but a arrest this
time has been made. Another one after somebody threw a
dildo towards the WNBA court, but it hit another fan
in the back of the head. Also coming up this morning,
jd Vance had a birthday party. He was literally floating

(14:01):
down the river. So why do people have a problem
with the river's water level? We'll explain. Yes, folks, it's Friday.
Let's continue on the run now and next up another day,

(14:21):
another dildo and now another arrests. In what has become
a bizarre epidemic at WNBA games, people continue tossing sex
toys toward the court.

Speaker 1 (14:32):
There have been at least five incidents in just the
past week and a half, an eighteen year old has
now been arrested in one of the latest incidents. It
happened at a game in Arizona between the Phoenix Mercury
and Connecticut Sun. Police say Caden Lopez pulled the green
dildo out of his pocket and chucked it towards the court,
but instead of making it to the court, it hit
a fan in the back of the head.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
That fan happened to be attending that WNBA game with
his none nine year old niece, and that sex toy
landed on the floor between the two of them. According
to police, Rob you love this, don't you? He said
he only purchased the thing the day before with the
express purpose of taking it to the game because he

(15:16):
was just doing what he saw trending on social media.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
That's disgusting, That's all he gave.

Speaker 2 (15:22):
This was the second arrest related to these dildo tossing
incidents around the WNBA. The other one was connected to
a game that happened in Georgia. But oh yeah, and
this one. A volunteer saw the guy. He saw the
guy throw it, and then the guy immediately tried to
leave the arena. Volunteer followed him, tackled him and held
him until police got there. That's why he was caught.

Speaker 1 (15:44):
It's just terrible, like, if you're going there as a
fan to enjoy the game, why would you want to
do that put the players at risk and just be
an absolute jerk on top of it all that.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
The risk, oh man, if somebody gets hurt. This is
just And the thing is if look, these are I
don't know what brand this is or whatever, with these
plastic green dildos that they're made out of non metallic material,
So you go through the security screening the metal detector
unless they pat these folks down, everybody down, like you're

(16:13):
at the airport. The machines are back.

Speaker 1 (16:17):
It wold all right. Well for the final leg of
our run, jd Vance kept it simple. For his birthday
last week, he went kayaking down an Ohio river with
his family. It sounds simple, fairly uneventful. So why is
it making headlines now almost a week later.

Speaker 2 (16:31):
Because we are just now getting word of the extraordinary
measures taken to make this trip happen. They literally raised
the water levels of the river. Yes, they literally raised
the river. The vans Is have a home in Cincinnati.
It's home for them, and they were spending time back
there to celebrate the VP's forty first birthday, and they

(16:52):
went for a trip down the Little Miami River.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
But because the VP travels with such a significant Secret
Service detail, emergency per tonel equipment and vehicles need to
be nearby the vances at all times. So the water level,
they determined was too low to allow for safe navigation
of Secret Service personnel. So the Army Corps of Engineers
was asked to change the outflows from a nearby lake

(17:16):
to feed and raise the levels of the river where
Vice President ad Vance and his family would be. And
so that happened. And how much does that cost? You know?

Speaker 2 (17:25):
I don't know. They didn't really. They are answering questions
about it, but not a financial one. I don't know
how much it costs to just change the flow of
a lake into a river. I don't know. But do
you buy that? Does that make sense? And again JD.
Vans is getting a lot of flag for criticism. Obviously
you can imagine it's coming from the other side of
the aisle. But it's not like he said, hey, go

(17:47):
raise that river for me. I want to go kayaking.
He just said he wanted to go kayaking, and they
did what they had to do to protect them.

Speaker 1 (17:52):
Yeah, I hear you.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
Who deserves that criticism?

Speaker 1 (17:56):
I don't know. Just again, I want to know how
much it costs like that, that's where all start to
be critical. If it cost the taxpayers an absurd amount
of money so that he could go kayaking, that seems absurd.
But I don't know what the number is, and if
it was if it just was somebody switching a knob
and it didn't do anything, but it didn't affect anyone.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
These guys have to be protected. Can he not do anything? Yeah?

Speaker 1 (18:19):
I mean that they have to be with him at
all times. That cheats.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
Yes, it should have been cheap. Yeah, But here's the
headline I went to give you from nineteen ninety nine.
July twenty fourth, nineteen ninety nine New York Times article says, quote,
a canoe trip becomes a political misadventure for Gore. Al
Gore did this same thing when he was running in
nineteen ninety nine to try to look like more of

(18:44):
an everyday man. So they have him going down a river.
I think this was in Connecticuts.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
Oh my goodness.

Speaker 2 (18:49):
And sure enough they had to raise the water level,
and environmentalists were pissed at him at the time. So
these things just don't go.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
So Democrats and Republicans alike have both raised the river
instead of raising the roof.

Speaker 2 (19:04):
All right, folks, will stay with us for one last nugget.
Here something we like for you to consider.

Speaker 1 (19:10):
It is our quote of the day.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
Oh you're itching to dude. You jumped in the cutting
me off on this. Go ahead, all right.

Speaker 1 (19:16):
I didn't mean too I thought you were looking to
meet to pick up what you were dropping. All right,
here's our quote of the day. Your next move matters
more than your last mistake.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Boom boom boom. But we harp on that last mistake, thinking.

Speaker 1 (19:30):
About it all the time constantly. So yes, it's a
nice just reminder, or at least a permission in a
way to go ahead and move on. Be in the
present moment, think about what your next best move is,
what the next right thing to do is, and stop
beating yourself up about something you can't change.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Nice, I like listening today. You don't know where this
one came from, No known.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Author, unknown, unknown is what it said, attributed to no one,
but certainly hopefully applicable.

Speaker 2 (19:58):
To everyone you should take credit for it. So with that, folks, yes,
your next move matters more than your last mistake. We
always appreciate you running with us. We're gonna be signing
a AU guess this will be our last morning run
we do from here in montauk Uh. What would you not?
They call them staycations. This is a working vacation.

Speaker 1 (20:17):
Yeah, it's a work vacation, but it's a work caation,
that's what I like to call them. And we'll be
back in the concrete jungle in air conditioning with no
ambient noise for you all to hear in case you've
been annoyed by the ambient noise. Not sure, I have
to go back and listen to these to see how
they all ended up sounding. But thank you for listening
to us on this Friday. We hope you all have
a wonderful weekend.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
I'm Amy Romer and I'm TJ.

Speaker 1 (20:38):
Holmes.

Speaker 2 (20:38):
See y'all SOO
