Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone, Thanks for joining us for today's morning run.
It's Wednesday's, September twenty fourth. I'm Amy Robots and I'm
TJ Holmes.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
Kimmel's back. Everybody knows that by now he nailed it.

Speaker 3 (00:19):
I don't know how else to say. His tone was right,
he was measured, he hit all the right notes, and
he seemed to be genuine.

Speaker 1 (00:26):
I thought he did great lack yes, and even the
emotion he had wasn't for himself. It was for free speech,
and it was for the thing that we can all
take away what Erica Kirk said about forgiving her husband's assassin.
He said, that is what we should be focused on,
that sentiment.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
So we will give some of those highlights. Of course,
a lot of eyes were on him last night, but
a lot of eyes could not be because two of
the biggest carriers of ABC programming said they were going
to pre empt him last night. So we will tell
you how that all went down. Also, the President had
a reaction to it. We'll tell you what he said.
You can imagine what he wrote on true social Also

(01:07):
the president running around canceling meetings We're about to have
a government shut down, big meeting to come to a resolution.
He abruptly cancels it. We'll explain what happened there. Also,
what do you think about this statue? And there's a
new statue that popped up in DC. I don't think
Trump likes it.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
No, And with this whole alleged assault on free speech,
which a lot of people are upset about giving Kimmel, etc.
It's kind of ironic. I guess that, yes, that the
National Park Service allowed this to happen. They issued a permit,
and it is a hell of a statue that you know.
Trump is not excited.

Speaker 3 (01:43):
And we'll explain what's happening there. Also, United Airlines grounded
all of its plane not exactly sure why. Also, the
President of France just strolling through the streets of Manhattan yesterday.
He couldn't quite get around. He had some traffic problems
as well.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
He learned what us New Yorkers know. Sometimes you have
to get out your car and walk.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
Yes, so that was a fun scene. Also, there is
a new King of Beers, a new number one beer
in the United States. We will get into all that,
but Roes, we do have to start, of course, with
Kimmel last night. Look, there was a lot of anticipation,
and he even made the point last night Robes that hey,
your plan backfired. You were trying to get me canceled,

(02:23):
and now you are essentially requiring millions of people to
watch me.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
He started off that way.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
He started Robes with jokes, but the jokes did not
necessarily continue and go throughout, because he in fact did
have poignant things he wanted to say last evening. And
I think beginning this was the most important thing that
he did say last night, that it was important to
him as a human to explain it was never my
intention to make light up the murder of a young man.

(02:50):
And this is where he stopped. He paused, and he
got choked up. You could hear in his voice almost
couldn't continue. He said, I posed. I posted a message
on Instagram the day he was killed, sending love to
his family, asking for compassion, and I meant it and
I still do. It was not my intention to blame
a specific group. Obviously, it was a deeply disturbed individual,
he said. I understand to some that that felt either

(03:14):
ill timed or unclear, or maybe both. And for those
who think I did point a finger. I get why
you're upset. If the situation were reversed, there's a good
chance I would have felt the same way. That was
the meat of his message life.

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yes, and that was validating. He didn't apologize, but he validated, Yes,
And I think that was an appropriate thing to do,
because as a comedian it is to provoke. It is
to be provocative and to get people laughing, but also
to maybe even make a few people win. I mean,
that's what these comedians do. They poked the bear. So

(03:46):
he didn't apologize for doing that.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
I haven't seen yet. Is anyone jumping on that point?
He didn't actually apologize, I hope not, because this was
more important than an apology, I think in a lie.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
I think it was to to validate how he can
understand how the other side feels and how he might
be in that same position. So it was almost as
if he walked in their shoes, and I thought that
actually was more powerful important some apology that people might
not even believe.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
Yeah, and another important line from last night, saying this
show is not important. What is important is that we
live in a country that allows us to have a
show like this. He used the phrase Unamerican. He said,
it's unamerican to pull the show off the air, it's
anti American to do what the president is doing, and
he did. He I thought it was a nice moment
about Erica Kirk. He acknowledged how powerful that moment was

(04:31):
and how deeply he was impacted.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
By Yeah, and it definitely felt heartfelt and authentic. And
I actually appreciated how he spoke about comedians and other countries,
how they are always so aware of what we can do,
what comedians can do in this country, and they're jealous
of our freedoms, and those freedoms he felt like were
taken away at least he mentioned Colbert. He mentioned that

(04:54):
Trump has threatened NBC's comedians as well, and so he said,
I hope you can even louder than you were for
me for them if this continues to happen.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
And it was one of maybe the funniest line for
me is that he heard from people from all over
the world, and a comedian in Germany actually asked if
he wanted to offered him a job. He said, and say,
imagine that Germany. We've become so authoritarian here that Germany
is like, hey, come over here.

Speaker 2 (05:24):
That was a good joke. It was a good historical
joke as well. But that was very good.

Speaker 3 (05:28):
Now, of course you understand that Trump had something to
say about this.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
He took to his.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Maybe favorite spot, to vent Truth Social and had this
to say about the comeback.

Speaker 1 (05:38):
He said, I can't believe the ABC fake news gave
Jimmy Kimmel his job back. The White House was told
by ABC that his show was canceled. Something happened between
then and now. Because his audience is gone and his
talent was never there. Why would they want somebody someone
back who does so poorly, who's not funny, and who
puts the network in jeopardy by playing ninety nine percent

(06:00):
positive Democrat garbage. He is yet another arm of the
danc and to the best of my knowledge, that would
be a major illegal campaign contribution. I think we're going
to test ABC out on this. Let's see how we do.
Last time I went after them, they gave me sixteen
million dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true

(06:24):
bunch of losers. Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad ratings,
so an absolute threat to ABC, direct threat.

Speaker 3 (06:33):
He is directly threatening yes, it will be a headache.
Yes they might win, but this is going to be
a headache. However, they could also do a lot for
themselves in winning robes, hearts, and minds.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
People.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
Even if you don't agree with a lot of stuff
coming out of Hollywood, folks do agree that freedom of
speech is important.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
I love what Kimmel said about that because he specifically
addressed conservatives supporting him. He said, I want to thank
the people who don't support my show and what I believe,
but support my right to share those beliefs anyway, and
he went on to name Ben Shapiro, Clayed, Travis, Candice Owens,
Mitch McConnell, Ran Paul, even Ted Cruz.

Speaker 2 (07:11):
So, yes, that was the evening.

Speaker 3 (07:12):
This is not done. We should follow up as well
and tell you about Sinclair and Next Star. Sinclair did
say earlier in the day yesterday that even though Disney
was bringing back Kimmel's show, that they Sinclair, the largest
owner of ABC stations in the country, would not They
would not be showing a show. It would be preempt
At last evening, Sinclair said that they're in charge of
about thirty eight ABC affiliates, and then a little later

(07:34):
in the day, Next Star, the second largest owner of
ABC stations, came out and said they wouldn't be putting
him on the show on their airwaves last night either.
I think kimme Will mentioned about twenty percent of his
viewership was essentially not able to see him last evening,
a bunch of markets. We don't know what Sinclair Nexttar
planned to do.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
Next Next Yeah, that's seventy stations, seventy markets who could
not see Kimmel last night. He mentioned even his wife's
family would not be able to watch him. He was
listening the cities who were not able to But there
was some of it up on YouTube, and certainly you
can access it online. So we'll see how that affects
his alleged poor ratings.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
And next Our said in a statement, we stand by
their decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to
fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets
we serve. We don't know what that means when he's
going to come back. He's essentially saying, you're going to
have to agree to something to give us something that
our viewership, which a lot of these are in conservative areas.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
These stations, they just are.

Speaker 3 (08:38):
What concessions could he possibly give to satisfy that argument?

Speaker 1 (08:40):
So yeah, a comedian has to be respectful in his monologue.
That's tough.

Speaker 3 (08:46):
So more on that to com We want to continue
on this run this morning. The next leg takes us
back to d C, where we're told there's a government
shut down that is imminent. So it was a good
sign to hear that President Trump was going to be
meeting with Democratic leaders until we heard.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
That he wasn't.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yes, so he actually posted this on social media. That's
how we all found out. After reviewing the details of
the un serious and ridiculous demands being made by the
minority radical left Democrats in return for their votes to
keep our thriving country open, I have decided that no
meeting with their congressional leaders could possibly be productive. He

(09:22):
was supposed to meet with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer
House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries, and this was abrupt and
sent both lawmakers to having their own press conferences and
also taking to social media, Schumer saying this, Donald Trump
can't even negotiate a budget bill with Democrats, This great negotiator,
by refusing to even sit down with Democrats Donald Trump

(09:45):
is causing the shutdown, Schumer saying this is a Trump shutdown. Yes,
and so Trump reportedly canceled the meeting after talking to
specifically House Speaker Mike Johnson also sent up Majority leader
John Thune. Reports are that there were concerns that they
thought Trump might give or make concessions that they weren't

(10:07):
willing to make, and so they just wanted the meeting
called off altogether, which Trump did. And by the way,
unless an agreement is meeched reached by midnight October first,
our government will shut down.

Speaker 3 (10:20):
I'm sure they're all working to get something else on
the books, staying in Washington right now. Though the President
may be annoyed by that meeting, well he's really annoyed
by what was going on out in the National mall right.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
Yes, right there for everyone to see. An anonymous group
put up You have to check out these pictures. A
spray painted bronze statues. I mean, in the pictures it
looks very legit, showing President Trump and Jeffrey Epstein holding hands.
The statue actually even has a name. It's called best
Friends Forever, and it has a plaque at the bottom

(10:52):
of these statues saying we celebrate the long lasting bond
between President Donald J. Trump and his closest friend, Jeffrey Epstein.

Speaker 3 (11:01):
If you didn't know the backstory, the statue looks kind
of sweet. They're kind of holding hands, their legs are
kicked up like they're almost frollicking.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Yeah, frolicking.

Speaker 2 (11:10):
I didn't know any better.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
So, by the way, this is all perfectly legal. The
National Park Service gave a permit to that group, so
it is going to allow the statue to remain right
there on the National Mall for all to see till
eight pm on Sunday. And by the way, this is
just the latest in a series of political sculptures. They're
called protest sculptures I believe that are critical of Trump.

(11:32):
They've been popping up all over Washington since last October.
So this is just the latest in the series.

Speaker 3 (11:38):
All right, we want to turn on. Our next leg
of the run takes us to Florida, where there was
quite the scene in the courtroom for the man who
is going to hear his fate. He's the one accused
of trying to assassinate the president while he was the
presidential nominee. He wasn't right been sworn in yet at
his golf course down in Florida. This is the guy
hiding in the bushes, y'all remember that guy, Ryan Rauth,

(11:59):
Well he was found roes. That was just the beginning.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Yes, So when the jury, which took about three less
than three hours actually to convict Ralph. After the verdict
was read, Ralph tried to then stab himself in the
neck with a pen. And it was his daughter, Ralph's daughter,
who began to scream out loud in court, oh my god,
he's trying to kill himself. He's trying to kill himself.
Someone stop him, please, And that's when court martials tackled

(12:23):
him and dragged him out of court. When they returned,
he was back in shackles so he could not harm himself,
and he didn't seem to actually have done that. They
said there was no blood visible.

Speaker 3 (12:33):
Did you I want to give credit, but one outlet
reported that there was something. They were specially designed pens
in the court room that specifically are made to keep
you from being able to use them as a weapon, So.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
They probably retracked, so he probably did. They said it
looked like there're no damage done, but Ralph's daughter also
yelled out in court when they brought him back in.
I love you and we will get you out. Don't worry.
That seems highly unlikely. His sentencing is scheduled for December eighteenth.
He is facing life in prison, as you might imagine,
because he was convicted of attempted assassination of a major

(13:07):
presidential candidate, along with four other very serious charges. So
it is interesting. The authorities made it clear Ralph created
what they call a sniper's nest near that sixth hole
on Trump's golf course, but he never actually fired a shot,
but he still was planning it, and he was convicted.
Trump celebrated the verdict on social media, writing congratulations to

(13:30):
Attorney General Pam Bondi, Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, and
the entire DOJ team on the conviction in Florida of
the person who attempted an assassination on my life.

Speaker 3 (13:41):
I can continue on the rod here now, and we
turned to the friendly skies Christion Mark.

Speaker 1 (13:48):
Depends on when you were flying and who you were
flying with.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
This doesn't make a lot of passengers feel good like
I'm all into safety United Airlines. I love it. If
you felt it needed to be a groundstop. Fine, but
when we ask what happened, he said, just a tech issue.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
A brief connectivity issue.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
I want to hear a little more.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
That's what they said. And in fact, if you looked
at the ATF, the air Traffic Control, they listed the
reason for the ground stop as company request backslash technology.
So that's a little concerning. Now United has thankfully resumed
normal operations now, but between the hours of midnight and
four am overnight tonight, there were forty two delays and

(14:27):
four cancelations because of this issue. And by the way,
this isn't the first time we've had this kind of
vague issue stop planes or ground planes. That happened back
in August, so there is real concern.

Speaker 3 (14:40):
A grant when you hear an airline is saying we
need we cannot safely put a plane in the air,
not one of them.

Speaker 1 (14:49):
What are we flying tomorrow? We're flying American tomorrow. Still
it's a little unnerving. I'm not gonna lie.

Speaker 3 (14:55):
Yes, speaking of connectivity issues, have you all noticed robes
and I actually have one ourselves.

Speaker 2 (15:01):
This is full disclosure.

Speaker 3 (15:02):
This is the first time we've actually had to do
our morning run.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Podcast without Wi Fi.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
We actually have been working on this thing with more
just off of just offline and using our cell phones.
So I don't know if you will notice the difference.
Maybe you didn't, Maybe you like this one better.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Little looser.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Yes we didn't.

Speaker 1 (15:20):
Yeah, normally we would script it out like we would
have when we were on broadcast television, and we have
actually we put our names. We know who's reading what
we take. Yeah, we take times turns writing stories, and
this one has just been free wheeling.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
I had to wing this one, so stick around. We
come back.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
We're gonna wing it some more, including the President of
France doing with so many of us here in New
York have done so many times. Traffic's bad, you gotta
get out and walk. Also, a change is coming to
Major League Baseball. Robot umpires are here, and there is
a new king of beers and he's skinny.

Speaker 1 (16:06):
We continue our Wednesday morning run here with Well, we
told you this is the worst traffic week in New
York annually. This happens every year. Yes, the UN is
in session, you got all that security for world leaders,
and well President Trump spoke yesterday, so that brings an
already congested city to a complete and total halt. And

(16:28):
apparently that even impacts those aforementioned world leaders. Case in point,
French President Emmanuel Macrone will he found out the hard way.
He even tried. This is amazing. It was all caught
on video. He tried calling President Trump for help when
the police blocked his vehicle to allow another ca van

(16:49):
aka the presidential motorcade to pass by. But in the
video that's now gone viral, you can see Macron getting
out of his vehicle asking police to let him pass
before where the motorcade arrived. Because the president hadn't gotten
there yet. They shut everything down within I don't know,
ten fifteen minutes beforehand. So he's arguing with police, if
you don't see it, let me pass. I have ten
people with me. He'd gotten out of his car. He

(17:11):
was trying to walk. They wouldn't even let him walk
at that point, so he decided to pick up the
phone and call Trump.

Speaker 3 (17:18):
Didn't get him anywhere.

Speaker 1 (17:19):
It didn't. He said, hey, how are you guess what?
I'm waiting in the street because everything's frozen for you. Ha,
And then I love this. He took the opportunity to
continue the conversation. He said I would love this weekend
to have a short discussion with Cutter and you on
the situation in Gaza. So he really like took advantage
of the second he had because Trump actually answered the phone,
which was kind of funny in and of itself.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
This was a cool scene. This is a fun scene.
It's the president of freaking France, right, just walk, you can't.
You can't get past it. This is New York, baby.

Speaker 1 (17:47):
He's like, do you know who I am to the police.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
No, he didn't say I love that, you know, I
love the officer doing his duty. Yeah, that's one that
even you can't get by. And yes, this happens in
New York. If folks don't know, the President's car never
stops moving at any point, so ahead of time they
block everything. So that is what Macaron got caught up in.
He was saying, you can't even see the mortiorkate, dude,
it just.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Let me cross, and they're like absolutely not. So eventually,
once the street reopened, Macrone just stayed on foot because
the traffic then is snarled forever even when they do
reopen the streets, So he just kept on walking and
apparently paused for the occasional selfie along the way. How
cool would that be to just be walking and say,
oh my god, forcrone, I think that is and he
did stop, which was very cool.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Continuing on the run here, now just one quick sports
know a major changes coming to Major League Baseball in
the twenty twenty six season. They are going to start
using a robot umpire. Now that doesn't mean the regular
umpire is going away that's standing behind home plate. Instead,
they're going to use a computer system that essentially now
allow teams to have two challenges. If they think it

(18:51):
was a strike and it was called a ball, they
can say challenge. And you know when you watch tennis
oftentimes that monitor they put up and that shows just
exactly where the ball lands and can tail if it's
enter out. It's that technology, that system. So now you
can have two challenges a game just the hitter and
the catcher and the pitcher can say I want a challenge.
But it is going to be a change to Major

(19:12):
League baseball.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
That's a major change to Major League base They.

Speaker 3 (19:15):
Could never do this full time, like every ball and strike.
You can't challenge every ball and strike, So they're just
giving them two challenges and they've been testing this in
the minor leagues for years, so they believe it does work.
So a major change to league baseball.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
I'm wondering, if it's effective, if it's more accurate, why
wouldn't they just use a robot umpire all the time because.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
It would be too cumbersome. It would take so long.
You have to read that thing every single you could eat. Okay,
that kind of speed, and you don't you there should
be some human error.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
I mean, oh, I am not advocating for AI and
robots to take over the world, trust me.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Sure sounded like to a lot of us a last
leg of our run here?

Speaker 2 (19:53):
Can you believe it? Folks?

Speaker 3 (19:54):
There is a new king of beers. Who would you
even guess? I know you know what it is, but
what do you think you would have guessed? Bud Light
has been replaced as the number one beer in the US.
But that happened actually two years ago. They got kicked
off number one by Modello.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
Oh I never would have guessed.

Speaker 3 (20:14):
Never would have guessed that here in the United States.
So now someone has taken over from the number one
spot from Modello, and that is.

Speaker 1 (20:21):
Michelob Ultra, our beer of choice.

Speaker 2 (20:24):
It is we are it's in our folks.

Speaker 1 (20:25):
I was like, it's in our refrigerator right now.

Speaker 3 (20:28):
It is because we are Kido. It has two point
six grams card ninety five calories.

Speaker 1 (20:33):
And you know, this marketing campaign that we have noticed
over the last few years has been brilliant because every
race we have run, which have been quite a few,
you will michelob Ultra will sponsor a lot of these,
or they'll have signage, they'll even have planes flying overhead.
So those who are active, those who are concerned about
their health, who still would like to have some alcohol intake,

(20:56):
they have really been promoting like the Athlete's Beer basically yes,
And to your.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
Point, that has been a key part.

Speaker 2 (21:02):
They said.

Speaker 3 (21:03):
They have stayed disciplined. They have come to a lot
of those events and targeted folks with what they call
an active, balanced lifestyle of its drinkers that includes both
fitness and fun.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Who doesn't want to be a part of that.

Speaker 3 (21:17):
From the very beginning, they have promoted this beer as
the one for the people who want to have a
good time but care about their health and care about
staying fit and are very social and it's worked for
them twenty years. The beer has been around, it's number one.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
I didn't know it's been around for twenty years, but
I know that I have been drinking it for the
last six or seven at least when I started t keto.
And you know what you get. I think it tastes great.

Speaker 3 (21:39):
It tastes like water.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
Yeah, it does a little bit bits, you know what.
It's great when you're tailgating whatever. You don't want to
You don't want to have too much alcohol and you
don't want to feel bloated. So it's kind of the
perfect combo where you can enjoy yourself but not too
much and you don't have regrets afterwards.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
It's also owned by Anheuser Busch. I'm just saying, folks
at own but like so, it's all in the family.

Speaker 1 (21:59):
I still can't get over a Medello being having been
number one. I would never have thought that.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
In the refrigerator. Most of the Medea.

Speaker 1 (22:08):
And Miller light. Yes you're a big Miller life fan.
Two point six is much much better, all right. So
actually I picked the quote of the day given our
connectivity issues and just general issues in life that pop up,
it seems like for so many of us. But I
loved this quote, sometimes you need a little crisis to

(22:29):
get your adrenaline flowing and help you realize your potential.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
Fine, fine, fine, I get that and I accept that.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
But who wants a crisis?

Speaker 1 (22:39):
Well, nobody does. But it's a way to look at
a crisis through a different lens. And Jeanette Walls, if
you're not familiar with her, she's amazing. She's the author
of The Glass Castle. She has been through some major
crises in her life and come out on top and
writes all about it in one of the best books
I have ever read. But I loved this quote because
sometimes we all have little crises that pop up during
the day, and if you can look look at it

(23:00):
as a motivator instead of a debilitator, I think that
you find another way, right, you work around stuff, and
I think that's a cool way to look at something
that goes wrong during your day. So sometimes you need
a little crisis to get your adrenaline flowing and help
you realize your potential. And with that, everyone, thank you
for running with us.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
I'm Amy Robots and I am TJ. Holmes.

Speaker 3 (23:21):

I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
