Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone. It is Tuesday, January sixth. I'm Amy Roebuck,
and January sixth isn't just January sixth in our house,
It's not.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
It's a big day where you commemorate the insurrection in Washington,
d C. January sixth, twenty twenty one.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
You know that's not what I was referencing. You know
that very well.

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Isn't that crazy? My daughter shares her birthday is on
January sixth, She's an insurrection baby. No, yes, it means birthday.
We got a big day plan. So if anybody out
there you're one, I'm one as well. Birthdays should absolutely
be holidays for whoever in your life has a birthday
and for yourself, these are always days you should stop

(00:48):
and take note.

Speaker 1 (00:49):
I agree. You know, the world is a crazy place,
and if you can have that one day where you
get to feel the love that everyone has for you
and you get to own it. I just think people
sometimes shy away from it. They don't want to bring
attention to themselves, or they don't want to celebrate getting older.
But you know what, we are all lucky to be here,
and if you get that one day that you get

(01:10):
to acknowledge it and feel that love, go for it.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Get another year, man, you got another year. So happy
birthday to the baby. We'll be partying all day today
because the New Year's parties are finally over right, and
we got to get back to news and what's going
on in the world. We do want to remind you
as always here on the Amy and TJ podcast top
right corner on that Apple podcast app you see our
show page says follow that little button there, and we

(01:34):
have so many updates you don't want to miss it
seems these days roads. But we uh, twenty twenty five,
we turned the page and got into immediately a huge
breaking news even historic news cycle.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Yeah what was that January second? Already we have gone
into a foreign country and taken their leaders.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
Yes, and he is sitting not too far from us
here in New York as we speak. But also we'll
get to on the run this morning. Our run several legs.
Legs are going to take us to Columbus, Ohio, Saint Paul, Minnesota, Caracas, Venezuela, Washington,
d C. Paris, France, and the Northern District of Illinois,
all of those places will be on our run today,
but we do begin right here in New York Robes

(02:19):
where it was a historic day, but it was a
day of development. And it was really bizarre to watch
live pictures of the president of Venezuela being driven around
and flown around Manhattan.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Yeah, bizarre, surreal, you name it, aust did. Venezuelan president
Nicolas Maduro and his wife both pleaded not guilty yesterday. Emphatically.
They added some extra words there to four counts against them.
Completely innocent, I think, is what Celia said. But they're
facing narco terrorism charges, drug and weapons charges. This all

(02:52):
happened in federal court in Lower Manhattan. We had demonstrators
outside pro Maduro, pro Trump, competing factions, but it was
quite the scene here in New York.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
It was a scene outside, like you mentioned, it was
the scene inside, and this might be an issue. They
were speaking in Spanish, so the judge couldn't right. He's
got the headset on, so he's hearing the interpretation. He
couldn't jump in and interrupt them quickly enough. So they
got to say more than normally a defendant and an
arrangement will be able to say. But yes, Maduro actually
declared I am a decent man in addition to being

(03:27):
an innocent man. Now, no bail has been set, no
bill has been requested, but we do expect that to
come later. The next court date is not until March seventeenth,
so as of this moment, at least, they will sit
in the MDC formerly the home of Glene Maxwell, formerly
the home of Sean Diitty Combs sit in that prison
until otherwise.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Yeah, who were both desperate to get out of there
because of the deplorable conditions. They talked about quite.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
A lot and again document it by prisoners and document
it and admitted to by the government that this is
not a place you want to be. All that going
on at the NBC. Meanwhile, Republican and Democratic lawmakers were
briefed privately yesterday by the administration about a two hour briefing.
We're told about the operation in Venezuela.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
And guess what they emerged out of that meeting as well.
We've all come to know and expect. Democrats said the
operation was illegal, They want more answers. Republicans said the
president did what he had to do. So Democratic senators
now planned to vote or to force a vote this
week on a bill that would limit President Trump's war powers.

(04:32):
This was in effect before the Venezuela situation even occurred,
so they were already going down this path that was
probably leading to nowhere before this even occurred. So yeah,
good luck with that, because we can't even get our
government funded. Because January thirty, if you remember that government
shut down, the largest one in history, that we kept

(04:53):
talking about this fall, we're right back where we started
because yes, in just a few weeks it's all going
to happen again.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
We are on the clock once again for a shutdown.
I don't think the Democrats necessarily have the stomach to
do that all over again and to force it. But
the point was to delay so we could get it done.
Is it going to get done? Who knows. Continuing on
the run here now, Augus head down to Caracas, where, yes,
Delse Rodriguez is the new president of Venezuela. She was
formerly sworn in yesterday during the opening session of that

(05:23):
country's National Assembly. Now, according to President Trump and the
White House, they are going to get in line. She
doesn't have a choice. They even the threat right she
might have a fate worse than Maduro's if she doesn't
get in line. But she had a little more of
a defiant tone yesterday and even said that the president
and first Lady of her country were kidnapped by the

(05:44):
United States, but officially they have another leader, but we
are not quite sure who's in charge.

Speaker 1 (05:49):
And I'm reading this correctly. She called Maduro and his
wife heroes. Okay, that is interesting language. We'll see how
the White House reacts to all of that, or if
they follow through their threats. All right. Next up on
the run, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is hoping to
punish Arizona Democratic Senator Mark Kelly. We all remember the

(06:10):
video that Senator Kelly and a few other members or
former members of the Armed Services put out telling members
current members of US forces that they do not have
to do anything illegal, that it is their right to
refuse illegal orders. They put out this video, and because
of that video, well, that upset Pete Hegseth, President Trump, etc.

(06:34):
He actually seditious exactly was the word they used, and
he announced Petexseth announced that he is formally introducing a
letter of censure into Mark Kelly's permanent file. But that's
not it he's also starting a process to demote Kelly
from his retirement rank of captain that would have his

(06:56):
retirement pay reduced. That is certainly a very specific punishment
that he is issuing too and really hitting him in
the pocketbook.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
It just seems so personal and it seems retaliatory in
a way that's unnecessary. But fine, they're going about this
Senator Kelly, who has been outspoken throughout this. He's not
necessarily known. It's being the most the most fiery guy,
I mean, a level headed This was always the guy
people looked at. He would make a good president. He's
not too.

Speaker 1 (07:27):
Political, absolutely yes, But in this thing.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
He has come out swinging as they've come after him,
and he vowed to fight on and fight any demotion
and fight the censure. But this quote from him robes
I appreciate it. Quote. My rank and retirement are things
that I earned through my service and sacrifice for this country.
I got shot at. I missed holidays and birthdays. I
commanded a Space Shuttle mission while my wife Gabby recovered

(07:53):
from a gunshot wound to the head, all while probably
wearing the American flag on my shoulder. Oh shut uh.
This is one guy we shouldn't challenge on patriotism.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
I actually got chills hearing that. Come on, let's please remember.

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Let's remember what this dude did. Like. You can be
on different sides of it, but one thing you cannot
attack this guy on is his service to this country.
That's absolutely none. You can't.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
And to go after his rank and his pension, that
is you earn that over a life, that is that
is I don't even know the word for it. It
feels so disrespectful for what because you didn't like what
he said. Isn't this America.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
We will keep an eye on that one. That fight
will continue. The fight will not continue in Minnesota, however,
for the governor there, Tim Waltz, he announced yesterday he
is dropping out of the race, dropping his reelection bid.
He was going for a third term there, but as
you've been seeing in the news, he has been dogged
by this fraud scandal involving billions of dollars. So he
can't shake that. Says he's getting out of the way,

(08:55):
letting somebody else move forward. But this what a fall? Well,
I say, but this guy was one night away from
being the Vice president of the United States, and now
it seems here we are how many months is this
later that his political career is possibly over? What is
he going to do after not being governor of Minnesota?
So this could be it for him, but just kind

(09:16):
of stunning to see.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yeah, and for him to have to step out amid
these fraud allegations and charges, not just allegations, but certainly
people have been held responsible for it. Not that he
was personally responsible for it, but he was the guy
where the buck stops here. And so when you have
to walk away given that, it's tough, as Cuomo found
out here in New York, it's tough to rebuild a

(09:37):
political career when you end it the way this one
is ending, all right. Next up on the Run, a
man was arrested for vandalism as at Vice President J. D.
Vance's Ohio home. He broke four windows of the house.
The guy is a twenty six year old William Defour.
Thankfully no one was home at the time, but Vance said,
as far as I can tell, a crazy person tried
to break in by hammering the windows. Look, this is

(10:00):
thanks concerning. We are seeing this more and more and
more people upset at policy, at rhetoric, and feel somehow
motivated in this political climate to take physical action. It's
scary stuff you have to take.

Speaker 2 (10:14):
This isn't petty or random. We have seen very scary
come out. We'll stay in Ohio. Here with an update
on the double murder there of an Ohio couple. This
was the couple whose kids one and four year old
were left in the house unharmed as the parents were murdered.
Spencer and Monique Tepi are the names. They were killed
on December thirty. It's both shot well. The police have

(10:36):
been asking for help because they essentially robed. It seems
like have nothing because they believe the killing happened between
two and five in the morning, most people are sleep,
so they're asking for surveillance videos. Everybody check your cameras
where They've released one video and doesn't show a lot,
But it's someone who is wearing a dark hooded top
with the hood on, walking with their hands in their pockets.
It's in an alley near where this couple lived, and

(10:58):
they're asking anybody to possibly identify this person of entance.
But you can't see the faith, You can't see much
of anything make you recognize how the person walks. But
they are desperate for some answers here.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
This is some scary stuff because the initial speculation was
there was no sign of forced entry, the kids were
alive and well, but to know that they were found,
they did say both Monique and Spencer were found upstairs
on the top level of their home. So somebody went
in up into their bedroom, I believe, is what they've said.
So that is a much more menacing scenario than thinking

(11:31):
about them opening the door maybe and having someone surprise
them or rush them. There are so many questions. This
is just a really disturbing story here.

Speaker 2 (11:39):
Somebody meant to do harm if you break into a
house to see, nobody's gonna go upstairs and start looking
around to go up there to go to the And
so yeah, a killer or killers are on the loose
in that area right.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Now, all right, next up on the run. The CDC
has made what's being widely referred to as an unprecedented
and even dangerous change to the childhood vaccine schedule. Here's
the bottom line. The United States is no longer recommending
as many vaccines for kids, and I'm talking about a
lot from eighteen recommended vaccines to now just eleven. And
this goes into effect immediately. The administration is saying that

(12:14):
we need more and better science, and they say that
this move will restore public trust that was lost during
the pandemic because of the COVID vaccines, which saved millions
of lives. That's a confusing statement in and of itself.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Just one John, I didn't write that last part that was.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
I'm sorry, I got a little fired up there, got
a little fired up there. I wasn't directing it at you.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
No, no, no, it makes sense. And what you're saying
is exactly the sentiment of so many people in the
medical community. And they're calling this latest move a bunch
of bs as well, not just bs, but they say
it's dangerous. You haven't shown us, you haven't proven why
these things should not be recommended. Now. Vaccines now are
going to be in three categories. The vaccines that are
recommended for all children, the vaccine scenes that are recommended

(12:58):
for high risk groups, and then vaccines that are only
based on the decision you have with your doctor. So
hepatitis A B no longer recommended, flu vaccine no longer recommended,
RSV no longer recommended. Now, they claim, parents, this is
giving you more choice because you can now go to
your doctor have this discussion and insurance will still cover,

(13:20):
is what they're telling us. Now, that is the point.
They're saying, you can still get them. As a parent.
The problem roads is the confusion that your government comes
out and says we don't even recommend that you get
this vaccine for your child anymore. That's going to lead
to some confusion and possibly kids not getting vaccinated, and
then possibly well you know where that is.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
And the big argument is that you cannot say that
once a government stops recommending a vaccine that insurance companies
are now going to pay for it. That's the problem.
They say, it gives you choice, but the big fear
is that it's going to limit it significantly for financial reasons.
And speaking of the flu shot no longer being recommended, well,
the CDC is saying that the flu is surging this

(14:01):
season in a way unseen in the past thirty years.
Look my dad, who's a microbiologist, every year, and it
happened again this year. Yes, constant barrage of texts, please
get your flu shot, Please get your flu shot. So
for the week following Christmas, eight point two percent of
outpatient visits were for flu like symptoms.

Speaker 2 (14:19):
I didn't have a perspective any context for that number,
but eight point two percent is the highest percentage they
have seen since nineteen ninety seven. Ninety seven is when
they first started keeping up with this particular statistics. So
we have the highest rate of flu like admissions or
outpatient visits to the hospital than we have ever seen. Wow,

(14:41):
that's where we are.

Speaker 1 (14:42):
Five thousand deaths from this the flu this season.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
Already and this and yes we are in the counting
and forty five states right now are either high or
very high flu activity in this country. It is serious
something we need to pay attention to. And robes for
the most part. I know you don't want to be
around sick people, but it helps to wash your hands
and stop touching your face and whatnot. It does make
a difference.

Speaker 1 (15:04):
So does the vaccine.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
By the way, it does too. Also coughing to the elbow,
sneeze into the elbow. All right, we'll folks stay with
us here on this Tuesday morning run. When we come back,
we have Black Friday around the holiday where there's black
Monday in the NFL. Will tell you what that means
and what happened. Also a game changer in the g
LP one game. The pill is now available and a

(15:30):
story that hits close to home. Somebody is going after
my beloved make reel. We continue here on this Tuesday
morning run. It's black Friday. Right in shopping, there's correct

(15:50):
and cyber Monday. They have some other.

Speaker 1 (15:52):
Color giving Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Oh is there another color attached to No?

Speaker 1 (15:56):
I think I thought it was just.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
Just a black Friday.

Speaker 1 (15:59):
Black You don't want a red date.

Speaker 2 (16:02):
Black Friday, we you get excited about. Yeah, Black Monday
is dreadful. Black Monday, folks, if you don't know, is
something that happens in the NFL. It's the Monday after
the last Sunday of the NFL regular season. It's essentially
when season is over for most teams and you're getting
ready for the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (16:21):
Never heard of it.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
So the teams that don't make the playoffs and are crappy,
what do they do? They fire their coaches. Wow, they
look for new coaches. So yesterday, sure enough, we had
another four firings in the NFL. So now six teams
are without coaches in the NFL, six out of the
thirty two. So this is just a tough time of

(16:42):
shuffling around. But one big note. You might know the
name Pete Carroll, legendary USC coach, wan to title, even
a super Bowl with the Seahawks.

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Don't know, don't know him, don't know them?

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Okay, well Pete Carroll only got one year with the
Raiders and they fired him after one year. And he's
god of a legendary coach. So Cardinals, Raiders, Falcons, Browns, Giants, Titans,
all looking for coaches right now. But just the note
on everybody learned something then black mondays.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
Does this happen every year?

Speaker 2 (17:11):
Happens every single year. Sunday was the wrap up of
the season. On that Monday is when they start getting fired.
You also notice it around the NCAA tournament when teams
get picked for the tournament. When they lose, a lot
of people come after those coaches. So it happens to
It makes sense. I just didn't know it was a thing.

(17:31):
So yes, I absolutely learned something today. And you didn't
know there were half Saxon football.

Speaker 1 (17:35):
I didn't know there were half Saxon football. Yes, I
have mentioned that I'm sports illiterate. I know college football
and that's about it. And I probably don't even know
that much. I know just enough to enjoy the game,
all right. Next up on the run, that first ever
g LP one pill is now officially available. This is
huge news, well GOVI made by Novo nor Disc. I

(17:57):
want to make sure I said that Right is now
offering this without insurance. It's one hundred and forty nine
dollars a month, and that is significantly reduced from some
of the prices we had seen for the injection. So obviously,
I don't know anyone who likes needles. So the idea
that you could take a pill, and I've kind of
joked about this because I just remember coming up with

(18:18):
diet and exercise obviously the gold standard and keeping your
body mass index where it should be. We've all always
been told there's no magic pill to replace good diet
and constant exercise, and yet now it seems like they're, look,
you need to do those things in conjunction with this pill.
But how cool is it that there is.

Speaker 2 (18:37):
A help who does I'm actually not sure. I hear
so much about the pill, the pill and the injections.
I don't hear about diet and exercise in conjunction. I
hear it reduces your appetite. But I don't. I don't know.
I don't hear it in conjunction a lot of times
with diet and exercise.

Speaker 1 (18:56):
I think you're right. I do not either. But I
did see something that actually was interesting to me that
shake Shack is now putting together a GLP one menu
alongside their regular items, including lettuce wrapped burgers. So I
it jumped out to me because obviously we don't we
try we not to eat many carbs, and so we

(19:17):
always look for those let us wrap. So like, wow,
they're actually Now maybe there is. When you go to
your doctor and you get a GLP one pill or
you're having this conversation, they suggest, Hey, also if you
reduce certain you know, parts of your diet, it'll work
even better.

Speaker 2 (19:32):
Okay, So you're telling me GOLP one combined with keto
and you're gonna be good to go. Okay, that's all
I heard in your explanation. Finally here on the run.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
Now it's not final. There's one more story. Don't you
skipping my favorite.

Speaker 2 (19:45):
Story of the day. What's your favorite story of the day.

Speaker 1 (19:47):
It'll be our cack.

Speaker 2 (19:48):
Oh yeah, and you know what I put that in there.
So my bad, folks, we're gonna wrap up. What a
way to wrap up this, lets you know about our partnership.
We're wrapping up with two stories, one about the McRib
and the other about Emily in Paris. Now, who's do
you think was?

Speaker 1 (20:01):
Who's exactly this is your kicker, But my kicker's coming next.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
Okay, my kicker, and I'm embarrassed. It's about a rib sandwich.
McDonald's is defending the mcgrib, and I am with them
all the way. There is a class action lawsuit over
the McRib. What are they arguing. Their argument is that
McDonald's has been misleading us all for thirty years by

(20:28):
suggesting that the McRib has rib meat in it. The
lawsuit is saying it's not made of real meat, real
rib meat. They're saying that the meat comes from other
parts of the pig, and that is why there's a lawsuit.

Speaker 1 (20:45):
Rose, Okay, so the lawsuit specifically says it's meat patty
has been deliberately crafted to resemble a rack of pork ribs.

Speaker 2 (20:54):
Brilliant.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
By the way, the McRib does not contain any actual
pork rib meat at all. But by the way, you
were laughing because people might not know. Well, I think
people know that you are very clean in your diet.
That's very important to you, and you do not really
go to fast food joints. But the only time I
have gotten you into a McDonald's, which I tend to

(21:17):
enjoy periodically, you were like, Okay, the mcgrib's back.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
I'll go, oh, I don't mind.

Speaker 1 (21:24):
I'm like, that's the thing that brought you into McDonald's
is the McRib. Because it's only here at certain every
few years.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
Every few years, you got to get on it when
it happens. But yes, they're going after the McRib. McDonald's
of course defending themselves saying they are distorting the facts
with this lawsuit and the claims are inaccurate. If you
don't know, folks, the mcgrib was introduced back in nineteen
eighty one. This is how it's described if you don't
know from the official McDonald's website. The mcgrib starts with

(21:52):
seasoned boneless pork dipped in a tangy barbecue sauce, topped
with slippered onions and tangy pickles, all served nod toasted
homestyle bun. When everything combined, you have barbecue pork sandwich perfection,
and you would agree, love that sandwich. And you know,
not ever once in life did I think this was

(22:13):
a slab of ribs on my sandwich. Exactly once did
I ever think, hmm, this is some tasty rib meat,
just like my granddaddy used to make in the backyard
on the smoking No, it's pork. It's pork of some kind. Yeah, fine, stop,
this is what we do. Who was harmed?

Speaker 1 (22:32):
Apparently four plaintiffs who want some money. All right, well,
I'm curious if you felt like you suffered any harm.
Binge watching Emily in Paris with Sabine and me, I
believe that happened on New Year's the day after New
Year's Emily in Paris, we just binged the amazing, delicious
season five that already had some cliffhangers built in and

(22:56):
what might happen next built in? And sure enough, as hoped,
Emily in Paris is officially renewed for a sixth season,
and the celebrations. I can hear them everywhere.

Speaker 2 (23:10):
You said, as soon as the season wrapped up, He's like, okay,
they perfectly set up the next thing.

Speaker 1 (23:14):
They truly did.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
It's it's it's not quite summer. I turned pretty for
me because I'm not invested in any of these characters,
like I reacted emotionally to Conrad and Belly and Jeremiah.
These folks just don't do it for me. But it's
a it's a fun watch.

Speaker 1 (23:29):
Sabina and I were trying to explain to you, if
you had watched from season one, you would be totally
into the Gabrielle, Emily U and then Yes and then
and then Alfie, and then you've got all the black
guy who's just there. Now he's in another love triangle.
So it's no. But look, it's silly, it's fun. And
in this political environment where especially when folks who are

(23:52):
into news like we are, where you are dealing with
just strife and war and conflict and anger and finger
point and murder and all. Yeah, we need some Emily
in Paris in our life for the biggest Yeah, the
biggest problem is what to wear in the morning and
which guy am I going to end up with at night?
That's that's what we're dealing in beautiful, magical European cities.

(24:15):
How great is this?

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Gon gonna be Venus next?

Speaker 1 (24:17):
We figured out right, no, no, it was already venice
this season. We're not are we going to give away
where we think it's going to be. It's all over
the diners, that's right, Greece.

Speaker 2 (24:26):
Oh yeah, on a yacht Greece. Yes, yes, yes, I
forgot yes, but please, no faults. I'm not being dismissive.
It's just it's one of those shows. I love to
sit there and just pepper you all with questions and
roll my eyes and it's just fun. I have a
blast watching that with you too, So thank you.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
It's fun having you as our foil.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
Thank you, thank you, thank you. All right, folks, let
we let you go on this Tuesday morning. Something we'd
like for you to consider it is our quote of
the day quote. Resist the urge to compare yourself to others.
Only compare yourself to the person you were yesterday. And
if you're happy that's in an improvement. Then you had
another day.

Speaker 1 (25:01):
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (25:02):
What's a good day? Right? Wow? Why isn't that right?
You gotta be better than you were last year, want
to be better than you were five years ago. I
just do bet than you were yesterday and you had
a good day. Yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:10):
They always say comparison is the thief of joy, and
I agree with that. But if you're comparing yourself to
who you were and what you're becoming, that's awesome. Actually,
that's where it's accountability, that's where it's reflective. That's where

You cannot improve anyone else. You cannot change anyone else.

(25:31):

appreciate she didn't know what yelse? You see? If oh

the urge to compare yourself to others. Only compare yourself
to the person you were yesterday. And if you're happy
that it's an improvement. You had another good day, Folks,
you have of yourself a very good day. I always
appreciate you running with us. I'm T. J.

Speaker 1 (26:03):
Holmes and I'm Amy Roebuck. We will run with you
