Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey, that folks. It is Monday, December fifteenth, and the
story that has since shockwaves through Hollywood has in some
ways become even more shocking because now word is that
Rob Reiner's own son has been booked for murder, and
with that, welcome to this episode of Amy and TJ Robes.

(00:23):
Shocking enough, Rob Reiner legend in Hollywood and his wife
found dead, got word that it was an apparent homicide,
and now word that it's their son that is facing charges.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
It's tragedy upon tragedy. I cannot even imagine those who
loved him and knew him, but certainly his other children.
He and his wife, Michelle had three children together. Nick
was among them, Nicks thirty two year old son who
has been arrested now for murder. But they have a daughter,
they have another son, and Rob has an adopted daughter

(00:56):
as well. So just the grief that those people alone
are experiencing right now is compounded with the fact that
their own brother is now charged with murdering their parents.
And this was a brother who has a history of trouble,
He had drug addiction issues, he had issues with his family,

(01:17):
and they were well known. But it seemed as though
he had been sober since twenty fifteen.

Speaker 1 (01:22):
Things were.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Getting better and the family was doing better, and they
were open about it.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
We don't know what in God's name could have led
to anything like this, but multiple news outlets are quoting
their law enforcement sources out there in Los Angeles saying
it does appear, yes, in fact, that they had stab wounds,
and even TMZ is reporting much bigger headline about their

(01:49):
just graphic as it is. Again we report on TMZ
because quite frankly, they get it right most of the time,
but reporting that it was a pretty vicious death, possibly
for these two. So that suggests some type of look
a stabbing, a knife being used, whatever it can be
speculated about the family and the dynamics and what could

(02:11):
have caused this or is he I mean, he's innocent,
Dell proven guilty as well. Correct, But this is where
we are rose the story. I guess it's kind of
fast moving because it was just shocking the story itself.
But we finally got more details officially from police about
how this transpired yesterday.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Yes, So what we understand is it was around three
o'clock yesterday, three o'clock three thirty yesterday, LA time, where
a family member found the bodies of Rob and Michelle
and they called police, and police got to the scene
very quickly and determined they were dead. But they said
by the time, I think about five hours later, at

(02:54):
nine to fifteen pm, So they first arrived the house
probably just before four pm, about five hours they actually
took Nick into custody and at five oh four am,
that's eight am Eastern time, he was booked for murder.
So they wrapped this up very quickly. But apparently, according
to some news sources, the family member immediately pointed police

(03:17):
in the direction of Nick.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
And this is why they were trying to piece together.
Police out there in Los Angeles, we know from a
long history, come under a lot of scrutiny, especially with
high profile cases, so maybe they were trying to be very,
very very careful in handling this case. But last night,
when we first got a worried about this, that was
very little information, nothing and even to the point of

(03:39):
mockery that they had a press conference but couldn't answer anything.
But one of the big questions Robes was wait a minute,
you're telling us that you're not looking for a suspect,
but you're telling us you have a homicide, but the
general public doesn't need to worry. Those things didn't add up,
and a couple of reporters followed up and followed up

(04:01):
and never got an answer, and this may be why
we got the answers we got.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
And look, given the timing of it, it doesn't seem
as though they were being very forthcoming, because if he
was taken into custody at nine to fifteen pm, those
reporters were asking questions throughout the evening and they said
they didn't have any suspects, but clearly they did have
someone in mind, and now they are acknowledging that in fact,
it was the son of Michelle and Rob Reiner. But

(04:26):
this was and it's just shocking because this was such
an open family and there's a movie actually I have
not have you watched, Being Charlie. So this was a
movie that they actually did together in collaboration with their
son Nick, about his struggles, about their struggles as a family.
It was depicted fictionally, but it was based on their

(04:46):
own actual experiences. And they say, now it's haunting if
we think some folks who've been quoting some of the
lines for the movie, it's it's very haunting to see
what we believe transpired now so sadly over the weekend
at the Reiners home and what was depicted in that movie, and.

Speaker 1 (05:05):
Folks as we are and a lot of people are
trying to pick up pieces, and I guess you know,
there is no one who is within the sound of
our voices that has not been impacted by Rob Ronner
film in one way, form or fashion, even if you
haven't seen one. So many of what's in those movies
are a part of pop culture that they are in

(05:26):
your life in some way, form or fashion. But as
Hollywood is shocked and in mourning, who has stepped right
in the middle of this is President Donald Jay Trump.
Now we're going to share it with you in a
moment and lets you take it in for yourself. The
words that he used to I guess to say rest

(05:50):
in peace, but made an absolute mockery of the deaths
of Rob Reiner and his wife. We will get into
that in a second, but yes, he has stepped in it.
But before we go there wrote it. Really it is
one of without a question, it maybe top three movie
of all time is Princess Bride. For me, I've never met,

(06:12):
had seen Harry met Sally.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Oh so good. Yet in fact, I've always wanted you
to watch it with me, so maybe now we'll take
a moment to do it. It's brilliant. It actually has been
credited with bringing rom comms to the fever pitch that
they got to in the nineties. Because of that, it
was kind of a dying genre, and when that one
came out, all of a sudden, people thought, wow, you
can do them smartly. You can have some fun with

(06:37):
the genre and make it interesting and comedic and wonderful.
And there was a beautiful story that came out of
that about his own love story with his wife. I
didn't know this.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
I mean I didn't know how the movie ended anyway,
but I didn't know that he changed the ending of
the movie because he, as they say, as the story
goes the poetic ways, he believed in love again. The
two weren't going to end up together at the into
that movie, but he changed the ending after he met
fell in love with his.

Speaker 2 (07:05):
Wife on the set, Michelle Yes.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Who remained as well. How many years they got.

Speaker 2 (07:10):
Married in nineteen eighty nine. I believe so me and
Matth don't do well together, but well established decades long
happy marriage, and this was a second marriage for him.
But yeah, they fell in love and so I didn't
know that he rewrote the ending of When Harry met
Sally to have a happy ending because of his wife Michelle.
That's a beautiful thing. But yes, the movies are endless.

(07:33):
I mean, obviously the Princess Bride is personal for us.
But American President is delightful. Field, I love that movie.
That is such a good movie. It's one of your favorites.
A few good men. But yeah, and we were talking
about how he could go from rom coms to action
packed movies to thrillers Misery.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
I didn't realize Misery was his.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
There was a connection with Stephen King because stand by
me obviously Stephen King as well.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
But no, this was brilliant.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Some people are obviously weighing in and saying the most
incredible things about the talent of Rob Reiner and his
philanthropy and his political leanings and just his passion for
life and just being a part of things. But some
I saw someone wrote that saying he's a legend actually
doesn't even do him justice. He's so much more than that.
He changed movies, He changed how we felt about movies.

(08:24):
He made an impact on so many of us that
we didn't even realize he was behind.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
When he changed himself. He was an actor, I mean,
he was a successful one at the time.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
What was his character's name, Meadhead. He was the son
in law of Archie Bunker.

Speaker 1 (08:37):
Yes, So he made a shift in a transition and
then changed Hollywood. He changed Hollywood. He was he was
incredibly impactful. And look a sudden death is I mean,
it's a shocking, sudden type of thing. But when you
lose some money like this to this type of violence,
it sends a different type of chill. And you see

(09:00):
someone who has been i mean a wild success. We
talk about, yes, movies, but we talk about his philanthropy
and his political activism. Yes, is something he's become just
as known for. Yes, maybe he wasn't on your side
of the political leanings, but you have to give him
credit for being as active as he was to him
for to end like this. We've seen several stories in Hollywood, unfortunately,

(09:29):
great incredible public successes and then something is going on
behind the scenes and you go, my god. We all
need to take good inventory of our lives and what's
really important to us.

Speaker 2 (09:43):
Right, And I think it's another You could point to
the lifestyle perhaps of a celebrity that maybe led to
having the level of family strife, drugs, etc. But you
could look at any family in any economic strata anywhere
in the country or world for that matter, and know
that these problems don't skip over wealthy people, they don't

(10:05):
skip over famous people, they don't skip over folks who've
been successful. We're all human beings. And the Rhiners were
in the middle of it and they were having difficulties
and this is the most horrific ending you could possibly imagine.
But yeah, you don't know what goes on behind closed doors.
You don't know what people are dealing with, despite what
they may show to all of us on the outside.

(10:27):
Things are happening to so many of us, and we
should all be helping one another. This is just the
moment where you don't want to be pointing the finger.
You want to be realizing that so many of us
are all in pain in different ways.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
They just want to give everybody a break. Sometimes you
never know, even the person that looks like they have
it all, you just never know. You got to give
everybody a break. But somebody who was not giving the Rhiners,
their friends, their family, their fans a break at all
today was President Donald Trump. He has been known, of course,

(11:02):
as you all know, as someone who can fly off
and say all kinds of wild things on social media.
We have never heard anything like this before. Stay here,

(11:23):
all right, Welcome back, folks. We continue on this day
that we got news overnight that Hollywood legend Rob Bryner
and his wife had been killed an apparent homicide, and
a short time later, as of this recording here on Monday,
their son Nick thirty two years old, has been booked
for murder in the death of his mom Michelle and

(11:43):
dad Rob Reiner now ropes in the middle of all this,
and I guess we've done episodes. We've actually done episode
podcast episodes. Just reading President trump social media post his
truth said he does on truth social I think we
as a country, we aren't shocked by a lot of
what he says. That's fair to say.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
It at this point, yes, because he says he says
things that no other president, sitting or otherwise I believe,
has ever said. And so you start to get desensitized
by his tone, sometimes even by his word choice that
is cancelable for anyone else. And yet somehow he'll throw
words around that are completely inappropriated, and we all just

(12:28):
look over it.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
Female reporters. He was just calling them piggy. Yes, yes, right,
And he for some reason that story went away and
he used the R word.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Oh yes, yes, not a problem to talk about the
governor of Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (12:40):
And it kind of just went away. And for whatever
reason he is we hold him to a different standard.
That's our fault if we do that. But the bar
is lower. There's a standard that's lower. That doesn't count.
So he can say a lot of stuff and we
keep rolling. This was different. He put out a true
so post you have in front of you. I did well. Okay,

(13:01):
he put out a true social post. I am not.
We don't need to interpret. We just need you to
hear what he said about the death of Rob Rner.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
All right, this is what President Trump put on truth social.
A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner,
a tortured and struggling but once very talented movie director
and comedy star, has passed away together with his wife Michelle,
reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive,

(13:32):
unyielding and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known
as Trump derangement syndrome, and he put that in all caps,
sometimes referred to as TDS. So he goes on to
say this he was known to have driven people crazy
by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with

(13:54):
his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump administration
surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness and with the
golden Age of America upon us perhaps like never before.
May Rob and Michelle rest in peace. What the actual f.

Speaker 1 (14:16):
This is one where I would ask somebody to check
on him. That's I don't I don't need to interpret.
I mean, that's that's the President of the United States,
sarcastically mocking and joking about someone being so obsessed with

(14:40):
President Trump that you drove other people around you crazy
to the point that your own son turned on you
and murdered you. That's not funny. And what were we
just talking about? Robes? What was everybody upset about? Don't
you dare say anything close to mocking the death of
Charlie Kerr.

Speaker 2 (15:00):
Don't you come close to even acting as if it
was either justified or something to joke around about.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
And you better be sad. They were even getting on
the people for not being sad enough, not mourning hard enough.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
But now the President of the United States within hours
of this news coming out we haven't even had, not
that it would ever be okay, but twenty four hours
haven't even passed, and he is mocking, openly mocking a
man who was, according to police, viciously stabbed to death

(15:37):
by his own son.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Ah oh, okay, Well, look that's part of it. And
the President has a way sometimes rose no matter what's
going on in pop culture, to put himself right in
the middle of it, and he has done so this
time in a way that I don't understand why it
was necessary. This is one where it's seeing it does
I'm telling you that does not seem that this came

(16:03):
from a man who's okay, who was having a that
is that is a break from reality and decency that
even for this guy, I think, I don't know what
in God's name that's about.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Well, and the White House, by the way, did not
respond to all of the requests I've seen so far
by reporters asking for some clarification and some frankly, some
hard questions that need to be asked of the president
as to why he did this, and so far there
has been no response. But you can't imagine that that
journalists are going to let this go. He is going
to have to answer to this.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
I doesn't ask the question right. He didn't have to
say anything. He voluntarily sat down and typed this out.
I guess why.

Speaker 2 (16:47):
That's and that's the question why.

Speaker 1 (16:50):
Okay, Well, folks, that is it has been a fast
