Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome everyone to your Sunday Morning Run. It is Sunday,
September twenty eighth. I'm Amy Roeboch alongside TJ. Holmes, and
this is where we give you a little inspiration to
start your week, and we go through our quotes of
the week, and we have a bonus quote at the
end of the episode, but we'll begin with a quote

(00:23):
from an unknown Every day is a new beginning, stay
away from what might have been and look at what
can be. That's a good Monday quote.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
Is that where we started the week? Yeah, yeah, I
think I am. I'm taking so many of your quotes
personally because there's many of you know, she is the
one that usually is responsible for pulling out the quotes,
and I don't actually see them before we use them
during Morning Run, and oftentimes I seem to be reflective

(00:55):
of whatever my mood was or whatever you didn't like
about my mood that morning. So I'm taking all of
these with little grain of salt.

Speaker 1 (01:04):
Sometimes it's also the news cycle or if there's a
news maker, so I don't always base it on what
I'm hoping you can learn from the quote of the day, FYI,
But yes, you have become wise to some of my tactics,
but I did love this one. Every day is a
new beginning, stay away from what might have been and

(01:24):
look at what can be. That's all about regret. It
doesn't serve any purpose. So I love that quote all right.
The next one comes from Dale Carnegie. Did you know
who that was?

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Uh? From Hall as in the Hall?

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yes, exactly. He has a whole. But do you know
what he did? Oh?

Speaker 2 (01:44):
His whole hit?

Speaker 1 (01:45):
No. So like I knew his name, I knew he
was some sort of I thought philosopher, but I actually
decided to go and look. He was born in eighteen
eighty eight. I didn't realize that long ago, but he
was author of the still famous stills circulated How to
Win Friends and Influence People. And his story is so cool.
I actually did a deep dive on him. But I

(02:07):
love that this was his quote. In action breeds doubt
and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. And isn't that true?
Because when we're stuck, we don't know what to do,
We're not sure what to do. Sometimes we're frozen with fear. Yeah,
you're just doubting yourself. But if you take an action,

(02:29):
you do it with confidence. You do it with courage,
and that action changes your whole energy.

Speaker 2 (02:36):
Yeah, action can be go ahead and send that text message.
That action can be go ahead and just take that
next step forward. Yeah, that action doesn't have to be
a major way A man doing nothing sucks and you
can just rot Doing nothing is the worst feeling that
you just don't want to have.

Speaker 1 (02:53):
Think about it, Like we both had our daughters talk
about rotting in bed And do you ever feel better
after you've Maybe some people will say yes, but my
personal experience has been I get up and I have
to kind of like shake it off. I feel ugh.
I don't like just going into fetal position and doing nothing.

(03:15):
I don't think serves anyone.

Speaker 2 (03:17):
No, I don't ever have a desire for that. I
haven't sure for rest, that's different.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
Oh I'm not talking.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Mostly I can sit down and relax for a moment.
But this idea of just crawling into bed and being
left alone and closing the blinds and not wanting to
get out into the world, it doesn't feel good. It
feels it does It feels like illness to me.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yeah, it's doubt and fear. So it's just a reminder
when you're not sure what to do? You know, what,
do something? And I love that. I think. I remember
one time my doctor told me, when you want to
take a nap, take a walk and it will make
a difference. So yes, in action breeds doubt and fear.
Action breeds confidence and courage. Dale Carne, thank you for that,

(04:01):
all right. This next one came from, Oh my goodness,
one of my favorite authors, Jeanette Walls. She wrote The
Glass Castle. It's a true story about her unbelievable childhood
and how she overcame so much to be come. She
was an MSNBC contributor and now, of course a New
York Times bestseller. But this is her quote, sometimes you

(04:24):
need a little crisis to get your adrenaline flowing and
help you realize your potential. This one was personal, but
it wasn't something at you. It is something we were
dealing with.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Oh what was it? I can remember?

Speaker 1 (04:36):
Wasn't that the Yeah, that was the entire Wi Fi
situation that was last Wednesday. Yeah, that was the crisis.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
Oh my goodness, that was our crisis. Then wow, And
we made it work. We made it happen, and we
showed ourselves what we are capable of in that moment. Yes,
I'm sometimes love to get my blood boiling. And I
because I'm tired a lot, because I don't get proper
sleep sometimes, but I always have to be on, it seems.
And that used to be a trick sometimes when we

(05:04):
were anchoring a television show together, when I was dragging,
I would write before the show came on and turn
to you and say say something to piss me off.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
And I was like, uh no, I'm not going to
be doing that because the last thing I want is
for you to be angry at me. But then sure enough,
some of them usually say something like yep, that did
it me.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
This gets my blood boil and get me going. And
it's not quite crisis, but I understand the sentiment. Sometimes
you actually need something where you don't have a choice
but to go into safety or survival mode or into
action of some kind.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Hell ya, yeah, And when you yet, when you don't
have a choice, when you have to act actually or react.
So yes, sometimes you need a little crisis to get
your adrenaline flowing and help you realize your potential. All right,
this one, TJ. You came up with the quote you did,
and you said you wrote it down and you don't

(06:05):
know who said it, but let's see if maybe me
reading it back to you jogged your memory. We have
to assert our dignity. Sorry, we have to assert our
dignity in small ways. It's the small details that let
people know we are not invisible.

Speaker 2 (06:20):
It just spoke to me in the moment I was
watching a movie that I shouldn't have been, I guess
looking for inspirational quotes. And this was not even a
primary star of this movie. She was kind of the elderly,
the matriarch of this family. She took care of folks
as an older lady, but had to do with a

(06:41):
Latino family in New York. And she was trying to
impart advice to this young girl and why it was
important for her to take up for herself or stand
up for herself. And the idea was sometimes just holding
your head high, always walking with good posture. It's just
it's always presenting yourself in a manner in which people

(07:02):
recognize that dignity. And you have to have it in
the small ways. First. And the movie was in the Heights.

Speaker 1 (07:10):
In the Heights, what a great, great film, lin Manuel Miranda.
But yes, I even think about it when you just see.
It doesn't matter how much you have, it's how you
take care of it. Whether it's your physical body, but
even your home, like planting a little flowers or just
keeping your place neat. It's that dignity I take pride
and who I am and how I live, and how

(07:32):
I treat people and how I treat myself. That is
a beautiful way to let people know. It's a quiet
form of protests in a sense, like ah, you can
see me because I am worthy. We have to assert
our dignity in small ways. It's the small details that
let people know we are not invisible. And on Friday,

(07:53):
this one came to us from Mandy Hail And you
said this one was direct? Did you? But I don't
think I necessarily did throw this one at you.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
Oh I can't can't remember.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
I know, I'm actually I can't wait for you to
hear it again. You don't always need a plan. Sometimes
you just need to breathe trust, let go and see
what happens.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
It's true, we all know that and believe that. But
I mean it's sometimes has great advice going through certain
parts of your life, but not great advice if you're
on a roller coaster. I mean, or if you.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
Walk into and like you're always walking into every restaurant,
every place of business, and I can see your head
on a swivel, and you have a plan. Yeah, you're
thinking for the worst case scenario. Yes, every time we
go anywhere.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Yes, I don't know where that comes from. I don't
know why, but yes, I count heads. When I get
into a subway, I count exit, I count how many
number of seats that are here, how many people can stand?
How many of us are here? Which guy's possibly a threat?
Who would he go after first? Would it be me? I?
Would we go after that big guy? So I need
to make eye contact with his brother over here, so
we on the same page. Yes, what is that? I

(09:05):
don't know. Maybe it's being raised in Memphis.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
I'm won and then I'm trying to be like, hey, babe,
So the other day when I was doing and you're
sitting there like a squirrel, just like staring at every
single possible threat like boom boom boom, boom boom. It's
impressive but also exhausting. It has to be. Do you
ever let yourself? Nope, just breathe and trust and let go.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
In a public environment, I do not. I absolutely don't.
There have been times we've gone to certain places where
there's certain safety. Our back is to a wall. I
can see everything in front of me, kind of a thing.
But you will never see me in the middle of something,
a crowd all around me and my head is not
moving and I'm just chilling. You're probably not going to
see that. And you probably know that by now, given

(09:50):
how much.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
Stuff I did. But what about this concept just in life,
about when you go on vacation or a Saturday Oh yeah,
you know, on that level, it makes sense the idea.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
There of planning or this didn't work out, or what
are we going to do here? And then what Oh no,
let's just roll it and see what happens. Now, I'm
great about that.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
On vacation you are, oh yeah, Actually to the point
where I'm like, hey, let's plan something. Can't we have
an excursion or an adventure?

Speaker 2 (10:22):
They I do not want to keep a schedule here
on the island.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Yes, we have had that exact conversation. So I need
to I need to pay attention to this little bit
of advice. You don't always need a plan. Sometimes you
just need to breathe. Trust, Let go and see what happens.
Thank you to Mandy Hale, she's an author for that
amazing quote. When we come back our bonus quote of

(10:47):
the week. Welcome back to this Sunday morning run where
we go over our quotes of the week. Help you
get inspired, find a little motivation as we all get

(11:08):
ready for our Monday and the rest of our work week.
So we have our bonus quote for you on this Sunday.
This one, I hope I can pronounce. This is an
Indian professor and philosopher who was born back in eighteen
eighty two, has Rot and Nayat Khan. And this is
what con said. Some people look for a beautiful place,

(11:31):
others make a place beautiful.

Speaker 2 (11:37):
Oh yeah, I mean how many versions of something like that?
What have we heard? That's a great way to put
it right. The same thing, grass is always green, and
want you water your own grass and it's gonna be
just as beautiful. That concept, that idea, Yeah, I it's
also that concept of your in a room and you're
waiting for somebody else to brighten the place up. You
are the light. You be the light. Yes, you walk
into a dark room. Don't get mad at everybody else,

(11:59):
you are the thing that's needed in there. So I
love There's so many variations of that, but that's a
I haven't heard it put that way far.

Speaker 1 (12:04):
I had neither, and so I think it. Also it
made me think about you know, we're always searching for
a place to make us happy. And look, I love
a beach, I love a vacation, and people were always
longing for if I could just get to that beach,
if I could just go to that mountain. I want
to be in a beautiful place and then I'll feel peace.
But it's so cool to turn that on its head.

(12:25):
If you're feeling that way and say others make a
place beautiful, that means you can make a place more
beautiful by your presence, but also recognizing that the people
who you are with make the place you're in beautiful.
So if you value your relationship, you know when you're
with your love, when you're with your person, that makes

(12:46):
the place you're in beautiful. Babe, you and I could
be anywhere in the world and maybe the worst, but
if I was with you, that that's what it's about.
It's not you know, I'd rather be I don't want to.
I don't want to disparage a city, but I'd rather
be in a less desirable city.

Speaker 2 (13:03):
Oh thank you for not filling with you.

Speaker 1 (13:06):
Versus being alone or with someone else in Paris, you know,
I mean that's kind of what it is like. And
that's a good way to look at it too, to
value the people you're with. And that's what makes your
space beautiful. It doesn't have to be in some exotic locale, but.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
You man, And isn't that terrible? The flip side of that,
if you are in a beautiful local and you don't
find it beautiful because of who you're with.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
You got haven't we all been there? I tell you
something to you and that actually has been a wake
up call for me. Or you've been in a beautiful
place and you're alone and you're like, I'm really glad.
I am Like. These are all moments where I think
we do get perspective, because yeah, how about that feeling?
Who hasn't among us? Maybe if you haven't, you're lucky
where you're in this beautiful space and you're looking around

(13:52):
and you think to yourself, why am I not happy?
I should be happy? How can I not be happy here?
And those are all moments where you do have to
do that that work and that self reflection because that
is a sign, because it should be wherever you are
with the person you love, that is your happy place.

(14:13):
So with that, everyone, thank you for listening to us.
Some people look for a beautiful place, others make a
place beautiful. And now with that, everyone, thank you for listening.
I made me robock On behalf of my love. TJ. Holmes,

(14:33):
We'll talk to you real soon.
