Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hey that folks. It is Sunday, August seventeenth, and welcome
to this inspirational edition of Amy TJ. Where we take
you through give you a little more background and insight
into our quotes of the day that we used during
the weekend. Rogues Books picks out a bonus quote for you.
Last week, you kind of out did yourself. You had
Yoda in there yes week. No Yoda's this week.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
No Yoda's this week. A lot of unknowns this week
is that well, you know, I don't know, but these
quotes spoke to me and so we have several unknowns.
But we also have some wise words from Wayne Dyer.
Love him. He is, of course one of the original
guru spiritual gurus that a lot of today's motivational speakers
rely on some of his words, and Will Rogers got

(00:47):
something from him also Robin Williams and the bonus quote.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
I think the Will Rogers one might have been my
favorite of the week.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Yeah you did? You did like that? Well? I think
you're gonna like the bonus quote too, though, I think
you're gonna like it a lot. We'll begin with Mondays
quote though from the aforementioned Wayne Dyer. I love this one.
I picked this on Monday because Monday sometimes maybe some
of us go into the week with a little bit
of a negative attitude. So I liked this one. Be
miserable or motivate yourself, whatever has to be done. It's

(01:16):
always your choice.

Speaker 1 (01:18):
Let's felt personal this week when you pick that one,
because I guess I wasn't necessarily feeling it on Monday.
I had a funky day.

Speaker 2 (01:25):
You always usually have one funky day a week, and
I think Monday might have been your funky day.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Monday's using my good day. I love Mondays well, starting
a new.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
You loved Friday this week? Did? I? I feel like
you loved it. I thought you were pretty good this week.
But yeah, sometimes I do pick my quotes based on
your mood.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
I was pretty good. It's like I get a report
card every week.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, I have to say, though, you are a moody dude.
We have talked about this, but you have gotten significantly
better moody.

Speaker 1 (01:54):
I'm in touch with my feelings. I'm not scared to share,
and I get labeled moody. Do y'all want a sensitive guy.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Or not in touch with your feelings? I like that
and communicative those are very important things, all right, So
thank you Wayne Dyer for that. Be miserable or motivate yourself,
whatever has to be done. It's always your choice. Now
we move into a string of unknowns, but still very
powerful words. Tuesday's quote of the day, never stand begging

(02:24):
for that which you have the power to earn. The
other way to put that, never beg for something you
could work for. I love this idea. You start to
think about moments in your life, or maybe even perhaps
moments in your children's lives. You start to see that
whining begging. Why am I doing that? Can I do
this for myself? Can I figure this out for myself?
Why beg for something that I can earn?

Speaker 1 (02:44):
This is the one I talked about this week. You
made me think of it with this quote. But just
the idea of the lemon moraine pie my mom. I
used to have to beg her when I was kicked.
Please please please make this pie. I love this pie
until I finally just learned how to make it and
figured it out and I had the ability to do

(03:04):
it on my own. That made me think of it.
When you use this quote, it's there's so many variations
of this, but man, it's really empowering, and it makes
you want to get away from it makes you feel
terrible to think you're begging for something.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Right, that's such a position of weakness. Everyone wants to
feel like they're in a position of strength, and so
instead of kind of turning into that childlike victim, you
can actually say, wait, let me figure out how to
do it for myself. I learned how to make my
grandmother's coffee cake, a recipe that was passed down and
I watched my mom do it, and so yes, to
this day, I will make it. Also some lovely cast

(03:36):
roles that I know you've enjoyed slash haha, you have
noted it all, like, well, there's a green bean castle,
but no, the one that everyone loves is the potato
baked cast role. It's basically corn flakes, cream of chicken, soup,
shredded hash browns, sour cream and cheddar cheese and green onion,

(03:57):
sautate and butter. It's amazing. But yes, I used to
beg my mom to make that too, and now now
my kids begged me to make it for them. So
maybe one day they'll finally get the recipe and do
it themselves.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
I beg you not to make it on the holidays.
Please not the cast role, okay, but thank you for
that whoever that did, who did give us that one.
Never stand begging for that which you have the power
to earn. I take it, I said. The other one
was from Will Rogers might have been my favorite of
the week last week, but this next one is the
one we've probably spent more time on all week. And

(04:30):
we have walked up and down the street actually with
this in our heads, and man, it makes a difference.
I beg all of you to keep this one in
mind and then walk down the street and apply it.

Speaker 2 (04:41):
Of all the things you wear, your expression is the
most important, Ain't that the truth. We do a lot
of walking here in the city. But if you're walking, driving,
wherever you are, start to look at people's faces, and
when you see what they're wearing, a smile or a
frown or a scowl, you'll be surprised. A lot of
folks don't realize the expression on their faces, and it

(05:03):
creates an energy, and it's also infectious. It's contagious, So
be mindful of what your face says about you.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
We were just walking a short time ago before recording,
and there was a young lady that was walking past us.
She had headphones on and she I looked at you
and said, wow, that was She had a good look
on her face, and it made us feel better just
to see her. And then there are people you passed
and like, oh my god, what has happened? Why are
they looking this way? Sure they might have gotten bad news,
but everybody we passed didn't just get news of death

(05:32):
in the family.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I even said, if people could see what their facial
expressions showed, they would change their faces. I don't think
and most of us realized that or recognize that, but
it certainly think about it's probably what you're thinking about.
It's probably what's in your head, and that's what's on
your face, and you don't even realize it. So it's
just another way to kind of remind yourself to stay positive,
to stay energetic, and to just be mindful of Try

(05:55):
to smile, even if you're not feeling it. Smile and
you'll change. Your energy will change, and you'll change the
energy of the people around you. Even strangers who pass
by you on the street will feel better having seen
your smile.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
And says such a true story it made that aren't
there people you look at and you're like, I don't
want to bother that one, and then other people that
look approachable.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
Yep.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Look, if you're looking for help in a restaurant at
a bar, like you look at which bartender you want
to who doesn't look right? So intimidating. It makes such
a difference. It's so inviting and just to put this,
and we have put this into practice, walking down the
street looking at people's faces and going.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Wow, makes a big difference in you and other people.
Of all the things you wear, your expression is the
most important.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
The Thursday quote here short, simple, sweet, to the point
powerful right. Also, we don't know who gave us this.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
One, rounding out our three unknowns of the week, But
I still like this because it gives you hope for
all of us who've been at a low moment in
our life. Here is the quote rock bottom has been
more winners than privilege. I love that because I think
we always look to the people who have money, or
who have things, or who were given some big head
start and think that they're ahead of us, that they're

(07:11):
luckier than us. And I actually think it's those of
us who have been at the lowest of the lows,
or had to work our way up. Those are the
winners who have earned it, who felt the hardship of
having to work for something and then attain it. Isn't
that sweeter too? Isn't that such a sweeter victory than
just being handed something?

Speaker 1 (07:31):
I mean, I would have liked been handed things would
have been nice. I like to think I still could
have been a decent person and all that privilege and
money wouldn't have messed me up. But no, you know,
one of the coolest things is to see someone who
does have the privilege, has all the advantages, but still

(07:52):
finds a way to make their own way, or to
scrap and to fight and to claw or to lose
all of that privilege and then still be able to
make it. That's a one wonderful story as well. But
most of the success stories we see, babe, are people
who were at rock bottom. You're just seeing them now
as a success, but at some point that person was struggle.
I mean probably struggling worse than you were.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
It's always good to hear those stories and to be
reminded that no matter who's on top, they were once
where you are or where you are or were, and
it's nice to see that you can also make something
from nothing. And so I love this quote, rock bottom
has built more winners than privilege.

Speaker 1 (08:30):
And we're going to wrap up with Will Rogers and
Robin Williams the bonus quote. I haven't seen it yet,
so we'll hear it all together for the first time.

Speaker 2 (08:49):
Welcome back to your Sunday morning run where we go
over our inspirational quotes of the week, and we hope
that you can find some motivation to start your week
off right if some of these words of wisdom will
start with our Friday quote of the week or I
guess Friday quote of the day coming to us from
Will Rogers. I love this quote. It's an oldie, it's

(09:10):
a goodie, and I hadn't heard it in a long time.
Too many people spend money they haven't earned to buy
things they don't want to impress people they don't like.
We all do it.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
If you take it in order, how many of us
are spending money we haven't earned.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
The entire United States of America?

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Okay, how often are we buying things we don't actually want?
And our motivation is not having to do with my
buying this car because I'm trying to impress this. Really,
I'd think about that. How many of the things that
we spend time buying that you actually don't want.

Speaker 2 (09:44):
You're thinking about what other people will think about what
it is that you have, whether it's something in your home,
something you're wearing, a car you're driving. It's important to
kind of make that reflection as to why your purchase
something or why you want something. Do you really want
it because it's gonna make your life better or do

(10:05):
you really want it because it's gonna make your life
look like it's better.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
You do this to impress people you don't people like?
Why spend any energy? Why do we do that?

Speaker 2 (10:15):
It's so funny, and I love the way he put it.
It's just so simple and so straightforward, and yet it
speaks to all of us because it's so true. Too
many people spend money they haven't earned to buy things
they don't want to impress people they don't like.

Speaker 1 (10:32):
All Right, you got a bonus quote for us. I
have not heard this when I only know it came
from Robin Williams.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
Yes, this is a quote from a movie. I thought
this was fun. This is Robin Williams's character and Goodwill Hunting.
Haven't seen that movie in a long time, but man,
that is a that is a brilliant movie with a
lot of I guess it's I learned something from that movie.
I was moved by that movie. We should watch it
again soon.

Speaker 1 (10:56):
I don't know if I've ever seen that movie.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
What, Okay, we're gonna have to sit down and watch it.
This is Robin Williams and Goodwill Hunting. You'll have bad times,
but it will always wake you up to the good
stuff you weren't paying attention to.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Oh that's really good. Wow.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
We're all going to have bad times. But the silver
lining from those bad times is that you realize what
good you have and how good you actually have it.
Because you get the perspective when things go to hell,
you actually recognize what things are going right in your life.
And so that's kind of a glass half full way
to look at some of the tough times in life.

(11:36):
They do offer you incredible perspective. A you usually learn
something valuable and be it almost always gives you the
perspective you need to be grateful and to recognize what
you do have and how to appreciate it.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
And you can only get that by going through hell.
And some of us don't get that hell until later
in life to actually understand and get the perspective of
that quote.

Speaker 2 (11:58):
But folks, you will sometimes you have to go through
hell multiple times, and you keep learning and you keep growing,
and you keep gaining new perspective. And that's what I
love about life, and it really is. I think we're
here to learn, and I think we're here to love,
and so I love this quote from Robin Williams and
Goodwill hunting. You'll have bad times, but it will always

(12:18):
wake you up to the good stuff you weren't paying
attention to. So we hope you pay attention to all
the good things you do have in your life. You
start your Sunday and you're week off right with your
head on straight, with a smile on your face, and
ready to earn all that stuff that you want in
your life, not because other people will be impressed by it,

(12:39):
but because it's something that you actually can earn for yourself.
See how I tied all the quotes together there?

Speaker 1 (12:46):
Yeah that was awesome.

Speaker 2 (12:47):
It's poetic, wasn't it.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Yeah, we should put it all together and put it.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
In a podcast. Maybe Thank you all for listening to
us on this Sunday. I'm Amy Roebuck alongside my partner TJ. Holmes.
Have a great, great rest of your week.
