Hunting for Answers is a production of the Black Effect
Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Welcome to Hunting for Answers, a
true crime podcast. I'm your host, Hunter and today we
discuss a case clouded in mystery, the baffling disappearance of
a thirty year old mother, her infant daughter, and her friend.
(01:10):
A seemingly ordinary trip took a sinister turn, leaving behind
an unsolved mystery and a trail gone cold for over
a decade. This is the story of Sasha and Cela Davis.
February fifteenth, two thousand and eight, Sasha, her three year
(01:34):
old daughter Cela, and her friend Jereb Griff Bennett set
off from New York City headed toward Rochester. The trip
was meant to be routine, a short visit with friends.
The trio rented a car for the four day excursion,
expecting to return home by February nineteenth. But as the
(01:56):
days passed, there was no sign of them. Calls when unanswered,
and no one had seen or heard from them since
they left. It remains unclear if they ever made it
to their destination that day. The drive from the Bronx
to Rochester is about five and a half hours, not
(02:17):
an impossible journey, yet one that somehow became their last
known route. By February nineteenth, their expected return date, there
was only silence. Then days turned into weeks, and worry
turned into fear. Then came a chilling discovery, a clue,
(02:41):
but no resolution. On February twenty seventh, nine days after
their expected return, the rental car was found abandoned on
Genesee Street near Genesee Valley Park in southwest Rochester. The
car set eerily untouched, offering no answers, no traces of Sasha,
(03:04):
Cela or Jared, no evidence of foul play, no signs
of struggle, just an empty vehicle and a deeply unsettling feeling.
As their families demanded answers, investigators began scouring for leeds.
(03:29):
A report from the New York State Missing and Exploited
Children Clearinghouse in March two thousand and nine hinted at
a troubling detail. Sasha and Jerob had allegedly been traveling
to quote collect a large sum of money, but from
whom and for what the nature of this mysterious meeting
(03:51):
remains unknown, leaving behind more speculation than certainty. Then, nearly
a decade later, the case took a bizarre and unsettling twist.
In twenty seventeen, an obituary surfaced online for a Jereb Bennett.
The listed birthday matched that of the missing man. It
(04:15):
stated he lived in New Jersey but had died in Wisconsin. Yet, curiously,
there was no public record of his disappearance and no
indication that authorities ever linked him to Sasha and Cela's case.
Had Jereb somehow escaped whatever fate met Sasha and Sela,
(04:37):
or was this another dead end in an already perplexing mystery.
With few official updates, online sleuths have taken the case
into their own hands over the years, leaving theories of
what might have happened. Was this a planned disappearance, did
(04:59):
they meet with foul play? Could the key to unlocking
the truth still be out there without evidence? These remain
just theories, haunting possibilities floating in the unknown. At the
time she disappeared, Sasha stood between five five and five seven,
(05:23):
weighed one hundred and twenty pounds, and had a mole
near her right eye. She also had tattoos, one on
the left side of her chest and another on her
right calf. Cela was two feet tall and weighed twenty pounds,
with black hair and brown eyes. Jereb was five to
eleven and weighed somewhere between two hundred and fifteen and
(05:46):
two hundred and thirty pounds. He left behind a wife
and two daughters. Sasha also left behind another daughter as well. Today,
Sasha would be forty seven years years old, Sela would
be sixteen years old, and Jared would be forty five
(06:07):
years old. My thoughts and prayers are with the family
and friends of Sasha, Cela, and Jared. Despite the years
that have passed, the disappearance of the trio unfortunately still
remains a devastating mystery that haunts their loved ones to
this day. Information about this case to contact the New
