Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hunting for Answers is a production of the Black Effect
Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Welcome to Hunting for Answers, a
true crime podcast. I'm your host Hunter, and today we're
discussing a case that took place in Crowley, Texas in
February twenty twenty one. This case has received minimal media attention,

(00:22):
yet the circumstances surrounding it are deeply troubling. Four years later,
a mother of two remains missing. A thirty nine year
old woman who was going through a difficult divorce when
she vanished without a trace. She was a substitute teacher
who dreamed of starting fresh, but one February night, she

(00:44):
made a late night stop at a gas station. Surveillance
footage would capture her final moments. This is the story
of Cynthia batreor Da Martina Bauchier was born Cynthia Alvoyd
on July fourth, nineteen eighty one. At the time of

(01:07):
her disappearance, she was thirty nine years old, mother of two,
and worked as a substitute teacher in the Crowley, Texas area.
Those who knew her described her as a devoted mother
who put her children first, but by early twenty twenty one,
Cynthia was going through one of the most difficult periods

(01:28):
of her life. She was in the middle of divorce
proceedings with her soon to be ex husband, trying to
start a new chapter. The divorce had been contentious, and
the final hearing was scheduled for February twenty twenty one.
Cynthia was looking forward to closing this chapter and finally

(01:50):
moving on with her life. However, she would never make
it to that hearing. February third, two thousand in twenty one,
a Wednesday night in Grand View, Texas, at approximately ten
thirty five pm, Cynthia pulled into a Shell gas station

(02:11):
located at one thousand and three East Kriner Street. Security
cameras captured her final known moments. She was wearing a
blue longsleeve shirt, black pants, and gray shoes with white accents.
She carried a distinctive red purse with plaid markings, and

(02:32):
was driving her metallic blue Mazda X five with Texas
license plate n MJ three eight eight three. What happened
after she left that gas station remains a mystery, because
Cynthia BA Trior was never seen again. In the days

(02:55):
following Cynthia's disappearance, her family became increasingly worried they had
heard from her, which was completely out of character. Cynthia
was this devoted mother who stayed in constant contact with family.
Once she didn't show up to church as expected, they
went straight to police. When her family reached out to

(03:18):
her soon to be ex husband for answers, he told
them that Cynthia was in a local hospital. Relieved but concerned,
the family believed that she had been found. All the
search efforts had been seized. Everyone thought that Cynthia was
safe and recovering, but the family would spend days calling

(03:42):
local hospitals trying to locate her. Hospital after hospital, they
were told the same thing, no patient by that name. Finally,
a nurs shared the devastating truth. Cynthia was never admitted
to any hospital. She was still missing. As the family

(04:05):
continued to search for Cynthia, investigators made a crucial discovery.
Her cell phone was found at the shell gas station
where she had last been seen, and this had raised
immediate red flags. The investigation took another turn on February eleventh,
twenty twenty one, eight days after Cynthia's disappearance, her metallic

(04:30):
blue Masta CX fifty was discovered abandoned on Interstate thirty
five in Waco, Texas. The car sat there for four
additional days before being towed. Her car was found roughly
fifty miles from where she was last seen, but there
was still no sign of Cynthia herself. The abandoned vehicle

(04:57):
only deepened the mystery. The timing of Cynthia's disappearance raised
serious questions as well. Her divorce proceedings were reaching a conclusion,
with the final hearing being scheduled for February when Cynthia

(05:18):
failed to appear. The hearing was continued because she was
presumed to be in the hospital. But Cynthia was never
in the hospital. She was still missing, and the misinformation
about her whereabouts had delayed critical search efforts and potentially
compromised the investigation. Why would someone claim she was in

(05:40):
the hospital if she wasn't. The family began to suspect
something darker might be at play. For months, the investigation
into Cynthia's disappearance seemed to stall. The family felt abandoned
by law enforcement and frustrated by the lack of progress,

(06:02):
They began to organize their own search efforts and advocate
for answers. The family formed the Fine Cynthia Coalition to
keep her case in the public eye and pressure authorities
to take action. They offer a fifty thousand dollars reward
for any information leading to Cynthia's discovery. In May twenty

(06:27):
twenty four, more than three years after Cynthia's disappearance, the
case received new attention. An FBI agent was assigned to
the investigation and obtained a seventy five page police report
from the Crowley Police Department. This development gave the family
new hope. Federal involvement suggested that Cynthia's case might finally

(06:52):
be taken seriously. The Fine Cynthia Coalition have been vocal
about their frustration with the initial investigation. They believe authorities
didn't take Cynthia's disappearance as seriously as they should From
the beginning. The family has advocated for reforms in how
missing person's cases are handled, especially those involving women of color.

(07:19):
Their advocacy efforts have highlighted systemic issues in missing person investigations.
They've called for better training, more resources, and immediate action
when someone goes missing. Cynthia's case has become a mission

(07:39):
for change. Four years have passed since Cynthia Batrayor vanished
from that gas station in Grand View, Texas. Her children
have grown up without their mother, and her family continues
to search for answers to questions that haunt them every day.
What happened to Cynthia after she left that shell gas station?

(08:02):
Why was her phone left behind? Why did her car
end up abandoned on inter State thirty five, and most importantly,
where is Cynthia now? The circumstances of Cynthia's disappearance remain unclear.
Her case is still classified as a missing person investigation.

(08:24):
With FBI involvement and continued pressure from the Fine Cynthia Coalition,
there's hope that new leads will emerge, but for now,
Cynthia's family continues to fight for answers. They refuse to
give up hope that someday they'll learn the truth about
what really happened to their beloved daughter, mother, and sister. Today,

(08:48):
Cynthia Bachayor would be forty three years old. My thoughts
and prayers are with her family and friends. Anyone with
