Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hunting for Answers is a production of the Black Effect
Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Welcome to Hunting for Answers, a
true crime podcast. I'm your host Hunter, and today we
have an update on a story we covered previously, one
that left a family searching for answers for the past year.
(00:22):
Now that search finally coming to an end. This is
the story of Asada A Moon. If you've been following
our podcast, you might remember the chilling story of sixteen
year old Asada A Moon, who vanished from her Sugarhill,
Georgia home in February twenty twenty four. That episode discussed
(00:46):
her mysterious disappearance, captured on her family's doorbell camera as
she fled barefoot in pink pajamas, her father's voice calling
out behind her. For more than a year, silence until now.
On Monday, March seventeenth, twenty twenty five, Wennette County Police
(01:09):
released a statement that sent waves through the case. Asada
A Moon has been located and is safe. Those words
that every family of a missing person hopes to hear.
But as with many cases we cover here, this resolution
brings its own set of questions. According to police, Asda
(01:34):
has been in the custody of the Tennessee Department of
Children's Services since February twenty twenty four, essentially the entire
time she was missing. Living under an alias for over
a year, search efforts intensified in Georgia while her mother
pleaded for her return, while investigators search her father's property
(01:57):
with warrants. Asada was a cross state lines her identity concealed.
The breakthrough came when a case manager with Tennessee's Department
of Children's Services noticed inconsistencies in statements made by Asada,
who was in their care. Something didn't add up. This
(02:19):
attentive case manager began researching missing children in Georgia, eventually
making the connection and contacting Gwinnett County police. This revelation
came just one week after ASADA's mother, Jasmine Dominique, made
an emotional plea on local news for her daughter's safe return.
(02:40):
I feel like it's not common not to hear something
at all, she said. It's not something easy for me,
It's hard. The story of ASADA's disappearance began to unravel
last year when police executed a search warrant at her father,
quot being at a moon's home. They seized a Dolly,
(03:02):
gardening tools, shoes, and even his car. During the investigation,
ASADA's two sisters were removed from the home by Child
Protective Services amid allegations of physical abuse, allegations that their
father firmly denied. Let's revisit what we know about the
(03:26):
day Asada disappeared. According to previous police statements, she left
without taking any personal belongings. Her father told reporters that
she had been disciplined at North Gwinnette High School the
day before. He had threatened to cent her to military school,
an idea that Asada strongly opposed. The doorbell camera captured
(03:52):
her final moments at home, with her father's voice calling
out behind her, saying, so you are just going to
run like a coward. When interviewed last June, Quabina Amun
maintained his innocence regarding the abuse allegations. I just want
to make sure my baby girl is okay, He said
(04:12):
that she is all right. What happened in the moments
after that doorbell camera footage remains unclear. How did Asada,
reportedly barefoot and in pajamas, make her way to Tennessee.
Who helped her and why did she choose to conceal
(04:34):
her identity. Police have confirmed that arrangements were made to
transfer custody of Asada to the Georgia Department of Family
and Children's Services. The investigation into the circumstances of her
disappearance remains active. While we celebrate that Asada is safe,
(04:58):
we recognize that her journey is far from over given
the legal and emotional aftermath in the coming months. The
Gwinnette County Police Department has extended their gratitude to the
Tennessee Department of Children's Services and the Laverne Police Department
for their assistance in resolving this case. We'll continue to
(05:19):
follow developments in ASADA's case as we close out this episode.
