Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hunting for Answers is a production of the Black Effect
Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Welcome to Hunting for Answers, a
true crime podcast. I'm your host Hunter, and today we're
highlighting a case that happened in May twenty twenty three.
A forty four year old hospital employee vanished from her

(00:21):
home in Boiling Springs, South Carolina. She never showed up
for her next shift, something that was completely out of
her character. Surveillance cameras captured her arriving home that afternoon,
but they also captured something else, something strange and highly suspicious,

(00:44):
a man wearing gloves wiping down her car after parking
it miles away. Two days before she disappeared, police responded
to a violent incident at her home. Over two years later,
her whereabouts still remain a mystery. This is the story

(01:10):
of Casey Young. Casey Levon Young was forty four years
old in the spring of twenty twenty three. She worked
at Spartanburg Regional Hospital and lived with her boyfriend, dron
Jerome Collins. They lived in the five thousand block of

(01:32):
Pratt Drive in Boiling Spring, South Carolina. She stood approximately
five feet five inches tall and weighed around one hundred
and forty seven pounds. She had black hair and brown eyes,
and at the time of her disappearance, her hair was
styled in long box braids. She was last seen wearing

(01:53):
a dark gray Regional Strong T shirt, black scrub pants,
and black and white sneakers. Casey was known as a
very dedicated worker, very reliable, someone who always showed up,
but on May fifteenth, twenty twenty three, she would leave

(02:14):
for work in the morning and never be seen again.
To get a better scope into Casey's life, we need
to go back to Saturday, May thirteenth, twenty twenty three,
just two days before she vanished. Police responded to a
nine to one to one call at the home Casey
shared with Doran Collins. The caller reported a violent incident.

(02:39):
Collins was accused of strangling Casey. When officers arrived, they
spoke with both Casey and Deron, but no arrest was made.
Casey declined to press charges against him. It would be
the last time police would ever see her live. I'm

(03:02):
plagued with it. Every day. I wake up with her
on my mind, I go to bed with her on
my mind, said Casey's sister, Randa Alverson. I'm thinking about
her throughout the day. Where can I look to find her?
Monday May fifteen, twenty twenty three, Kasey left for work

(03:24):
that morning, just like any other day. She spoke with
family around four thirty PM, presumably while on her way
home from her shift at the hospital. Neighborhood surveillance cameras
captured her white two thousand and nine Infinity G thirty
seven pulling into the driveway at approximately four to fifty pm.

(03:47):
What happened next would become the center of a federal
investigation and change everything. When police first questioned Deron Collins
about Casey's whereabouts, he claimed that she never came home
that day. He said that he simply hadn't seen her,

(04:08):
but investigators had already seen the footage. His story didn't
match what cameras had already showed. Confronted with the evidence,
Collins changed his story. He admitted that Casey arrived home
around five PM, just as the cameras had showed. He

(04:29):
said they argued after she got home. Then he claimed
that she took a shower, got in her car, and
drove away. According to Duran Collins, that was the last
time that he saw her. On May sixteenth, Casey didn't
show up for work, and this was very unusual for her. Concerned,

(04:53):
her employer and family tried to reach her, no one
could get in touch. The next day, May seventeenth, Casey's
white Infinity was found in the parking lot of the
Windsor Palm's apartment complex, not far from the home that
she shared with Collins. What authorities saw on the surveillance

(05:16):
was chilling. On May fifteenth, just three hours after Casey
was last seen, the video showed de Ron Collins driving
her car into the apartment complex parking lot. He carefully
parked it. Then, wearing gloves, he began wiping down the

(05:36):
surfaces methodically and deliberately. When he finished, he walked to
a nearby dumpster and threw away the items. He then
walked back towards his home on Pratt Drive. Collins had
left his cell phone at home. It seems he didn't
want any digital trail showing his movements. As investigators dug deeper,

(06:03):
they discovered something else troubling. Duran Collins had manually deleted
video footage from his home surveillance system, footage from around
the time Casey disappeared. The system's event logs showed that
home cameras had been unplugged at critical times, times that

(06:24):
might have captured what really happened to Casey Young. Police
also learned that Collins had a history of intimate partner violence,
though he had never been convicted. On June first, twenty
twenty three, Duran Collins was arrested and charged by the
Seventh Circuit Solicitor's Office with larceny and obstruction of justice

(06:49):
in connection with Casey's disappearance. But that was just the beginning.
In November twenty twenty three, Collins was federally indicted on
counts of obstruction of justice and witnessed hampering. The charges
were tied to an ongoing federal kidnapping investigation. Collins was

(07:10):
denied bond. He remained in custody. In July twenty twenty four,
a forty seven year old Durrown Jerome Collins stood before
a federal judge and pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice
and witnessed hampering. Prosecutors laid out the evidence Collins had
destroyed and attempted to hide physical and electronic evidence material

(07:36):
to federal investigators. This included home security video clips, Casey's
vehicle and other personal identifying items. He also provided false
and misleading information to investigators with the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office,
deliberately trying to prevent information from reaching federal law enforcement.

(08:01):
It's important to note that Collins is not charged with
Casey's actual disappearance or death. The current charges are currently
for his actions after she went missing. He faces up
to twenty years in prison for each offense, a fine
of up to two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, and
up to six years of supervised release. Over two years

(08:28):
have passed since anyone has heard from Casey. Her car
has been found, and her boyfriend has leaded guilty to
federal charges, but Casey herself has never been located. The
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI Columbia
Field Office, and the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office continue to

(08:52):
investigate her disappearance. Foul play is suspected in her case.
Despite all of the evidence against Doron Collins, Casey Young's
fate still remains unknown and the clock is ticking for answers.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends

(09:13):
of Casey Young. Her loved ones deserve answers and to
be able to bring her home. Anyone with information about
Casey's disappearance should contact the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office. You
can also submit tips anonymously through crime Stoppers. Their information
can be found in the description below. As we close

(09:37):
