Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hunting for Answers is a production of the Black Effect
Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Welcome to Hunting for Answers, a
true crime podcast. I'm your host Hunter, and today's case
takes us into the heart of Indianapolis, Indiana. It's around
some mother of two following her late night shift and

(00:22):
a routine Uber ride that turned into a nightmare. What
happened during that ride home? This is the story of
Chanty Dixon. September eighth, twenty twenty four. It was the
early hours of morning. Thirty year old Chanty had just

(00:45):
finished work and called an Uber to take her home,
like many do every day. She never expected this would
be her last. Surveillance footage captured her entering the vehicle
around three thirty eight. She didn't seem alarmed. There was
no indication anything was wrong, and then silence. Hours had passed.

(01:11):
Her phone stopped ringing and messages went unanswered. By morning,
her family grew frantic. By the following evening, the unthinkable happened.
Chanty's body was discovered in a wooded area just a
short distance from her home. She had been shot. Her

(01:35):
injuries were severe, her life had been taken. The community
was stunned, and her family was left shattered. Two young children,
a thirteen year old son and a ten year old daughter,
were now left without their mother. But who would do
this then? Why? The investigation turned swiftly to the last

(02:04):
person known to have seen her alive, the uber driver,
twenty nine year old Francisco Valades. At first, Valades claimed
he had dropped Chanty off safely, but his story didn't
hold up. Surveillance footage and GPS data told a different tale,
and consistencies began to mount, and then the confession came.

(02:31):
Valades told authorities that during that ride, Chanty laughed at
him after he made an unwonted sexual advance towards her. Enraged,
he claimed, he pulled out a gun and then shot her.
But it didn't end there. Valdes also admitted to attempting

(02:52):
to a sexually assault Chancey after she was fed. The
violence was senseless, the motive horrifying, and the pain left
behind was just plain unimaginable. So who was Fancy Dixon?
Her mother, Ryse Sixon called her a shining star, a

(03:14):
woman full of love, compassion, and energy. She loved her
children deeply worked hard to provide for them. She made
others laugh, She lit up a room, and she didn't
deserve this. Chanty's murder didn't just shake her family, It
sent shockwaves through the community. People began questioning the safety

(03:36):
of ride share services, how well do we really know
the people be in trust with our lives during these
car rides, and what can be done to prevent this
from happening again. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has urged
anyone with similar experiences or encounters to come forward. Francisco

(03:59):
Valdez is now behind bars, charged with Chancey's murder and
an unspeakable act of violence. But a courtroom conviction can't
rewind time. For Chancey's family. Justice isn't a guilty verdict.
It's her walking through the front door again. It's her
daughter hearing I Love you one more time, and her

(04:22):
son knowing his mom will be there to cheer him on. However,
Kanty Dixon's story doesn't end in that wooded area where
her body was found. It lives on in her children's strength,
her mother's strength, and in the community that refuses to forget.
My thoughts and prayers are with Chancey's family and friends

(04:43):
as they continue navigating this heartbreaking tragedy. If you or
anyone you know has experienced something similar with a ride
share driver or otherwise, don't be silent. Report it, share it,
and speak out. It might be the one thing that
prevents another tragedy like this from happening. As we close
