Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hunting for Answers is a production of the Black Effect
Podcast Network and iHeartRadio. Welcome to Hunting for Answers, a
true crime podcast. I'm your host Hunter, and today's case
takes us to Tallahassee, Florida, where, in twenty twenty three,
a bright, kind, twelve year old girl vanished without a trace.
(00:23):
Police labeled her a runaway. For nearly two years, there
were no leads, no justice, and no answers until now.
What authorities came to discover is the truth hidden beneath
the silence, and an unthinkable betrayal hidden in plain sight.
(00:44):
This is the story of Glory Page. Glori was born
on April fourteenth, twenty eleven. By all accounts, she was
the kind of child teachers remember long after the semester ends.
Right focused and very polite. At Griffin Middle School in Tallahassee,
(01:06):
her presence lit up the classroom. She wasn't a girl
who caused trouble. She didn't skip class. There were no
red flags, and that's why when she disappeared, her teachers
knew something was very, very wrong. One of them, Margaret Summers,
(01:28):
refused to stay silent. Long after the dust had settled
with the police. She was one of the ones who
kept searching, knocking on doors, and rallying the community. To her,
Laurie wasn't just another missing person. She was a promise
that somebody had stolen. June third, twenty twenty three, Laurie's
(01:51):
father called the police. He said he'd gotten home from
an overnight shift to find her bed empty. There were
no signs forced entry, no witnesses. She was just gone.
Authorities labeled her a runaway, no ambroiler, no criminal investigation,
(02:13):
but to her mother that theory never made any sense.
Laurie was afraid of the dark. She didn't like being alone.
She had no cell phone, no money, and no way
to disappear on her own. Her mother tried to raise
the alarm, telling officers her daughter was in danger, but
(02:35):
the system didn't listen. As weeks passed, detectives tried to
trace her digital footprint, but there was none, no texts,
no posts, nothing. It was as if Laurie had vanished
into thin air. The police went back to basics, flyers,
(02:59):
neighborhood canvas, tips from the public, but the case stalled
until Nancy Grace picked it up. She featured the case
on her show, lasting local authorities for failing to take action.
The exposure forced a shift, and Tallahassee police launched a
(03:19):
renewed search. Dive teams poured into Lake Esther detectives reinterviewed everyone,
but months turned into a year, then two, and still
no sign of Lori Paige. Until one day, in a
(03:39):
quiet wooded area of Thomas County, Georgia. Something turned up.
Two bones, small, almost fragile tess confirmed what detectives feared
they belonged to Lourie. Her body had been discarded like
trash across state line, hidden in a patch of trees
(04:03):
miles from where she vanished. And then another bombshell. Her father,
thirty six year old Andrew Wiley, the very man who
reported her missing, was arrested and charged with second degree murder.
The story he'd told police allegedly all a lot. For
(04:25):
almost two years, he'd watch as friends, family, and an
entire city search for a girl he knew would never
come home. As detectives dug deeper, the pieces started to align,
dark but undeniable Wiley's phones, his home, his car. Search
(04:47):
warrants turned up more than suspicion in the trunk of
his vehicle, a loaded gun, a bottle of powerful car
cleaner designed to break down organic matter, a stiff bristled brush,
torn upholstery, carpet cut clean from the floorboard, and then
(05:10):
what couldn't be cleaned. Investigators released a bioluminescence brand the interior,
revealing traces of Lorii's blood across the passenger seat, the carpet,
and more. Police now believed this was the car he
used to transport her body through the woods of Thomas County, Georgia.
(05:32):
But Wiley wasn't just cleaning. He was also planning his escape.
Credit card records revealed more into the story. The day
before Wiley reported Loorie missing, he purchased a one way
ticket to Puerto Rico, a quick exit with no return trip,
(05:55):
but he never boarded. Instead, he came back to Tallahasee quiet,
watching and waiting. Police searched his phone. Inside was a
search history that read like a confession quote where do
police look to find missing kids? GPS pings traced his
(06:18):
root all the way from Tallahassee to a remote stretch
of woods in Georgia, a path that led detectives straight
to Lourie's final resting place. They had searched there before,
but this time, Authority say a controlled burn had cleared
some of the underbush, finally revealing what had been hidden
(06:42):
bones Lourie's bones confirmed by DNA. It was undeniable for TPD.
It was the final piece. They didn't just have a suspect,
now they had Lori's story in Wiley's life, all brought
to light in a press conference filled with somber faces.
(07:07):
Tallahassee Police Chief Lawrence Revel called it a mixed bag
of emotions. There was relief, but there was also grief.
Court records painted a dark picture. Laurie's life at home
was filled with fear, silence, impossible abuse. The details were
(07:29):
so disturbing the public version of the documents had to
be redacted. Authority say no additional suspects are expected. At
the time Laurie disappeared, she was just twelve years old.
She should have been taking mouth tests and playing with friends,
but instead her life was taken at the hands of
(07:52):
someone who should have been her greatest protector. My thoughts
and prayers are with the rest of Lori Page's family,
her friends, and the entire community that would not let
her name be forgotten. As we close out this episode,
