twenty third, twenty ten. Adam fears his future and he
has torn between his job and his family. After a
surprising news from Gordon. While preparing Thanksgiving dinner, Camille and
Amber share a bonding moment. Meanwhile, Drew feels uncomfortable about

his mom bringing Gordon to dinner. Crosby tries to impress
his future mother in law. Elsewhere, Juliet tries to embrace
her domestic side by making pies for dinner, but snaps
at Sydney.

episode is. I don't even know where to begin. It's
maybe let's begin with first of all, what is Miles'

you remember, Mark, I don't even if you're gonna remember this,

but we call her spa Maria. So we had this.
We have this friend Maria, and she had like a
mobile spa and it would like come and do massages
and manicures and stuff like this. She's either married or
this is her long, long, long, long long time boyfriend.
Was the guy who played the ex boyfriend husband in

the pilot. John Corbett takes over the role. Now I
know that was very around the river and through the
woods Farris Bieler's uncle's brothers, sisters. But anyway, that is
our connection. But we know that John Corbett is coming,
so obviously they're starting to sprinkle in right seth things.

I do want to shout out Miles, by the way,
the actor who plays Drew hol This is about it
as accurate a portrayal of a teenage boy as you're
going to see on television. Just awkward and uncomfortable and
shy and withdrawn.

Hmm and subtle. It's never over the top. It's so
real and just that the phone and he's it's dad
and taking the phone call and then leaving the table
and then coming back and saying like Amber, dad wants
to talk to you, and she's like wants none of it.
And also Lauren Graham's brilliance with just the face kind
of the face acting, and also that Zeke had called

Seth to say call your son, but Zeke never reveals, Yeah,
he called you because I told him to.

He didn't know he was going to. We just left

He just hoped. And that was like sort of the
brilliance and that, you know, I don't for people that
are watching the first time, it's not a spoiler, like
we are going to have Seth back in the mix,
and we are going to get to know their father
and it's John Corbett, which I actually loved John Corbett
that he was on Parenthood, and.

I think that's a really good arc. If I recall,
I mean that's been it's been fifteen years, but I
remember they'd been a really good kind of you know
show can know.

Isn't it so weird? Twenty ten seems like yesterday and

good in this episode. He's good in the whole thing,
but just also the you're going to cut my bird,

you know to Dak Shepherd and the whole carving of
the turkey, Like, what do you what did you think
of all that?

Well? I liked it. He was kind of like he
was kind of, you know, affronting, as the kids say.
He was kind of like, you know, no, no, no,
but he was you were sure was he kind of joking?
Is he not joking? But then there was a he
had the revelation that this actually means a lot. To Crosby, Yeah,
the right thing to do here is the handover the knife,
and so he did. Thought that was sweet, and it
was the same thing without him. Adam was like, are
you serious, No way, my job is right, it's such

I also liked how how Crosby sort of went. First
of all, I have no idea how you carve a
turkey absolutely zero, no clue. Yeah, who carves the turkey

make her gag or anything, and like it just makes
me laugh so hard. And Luke is just like so
irritated by Lorali telling him who he can and can't date.

for directions, It's just such a funny scene. Anyway, back
to parenthood. Back to so what did you think? First
of all, let's talk about Julia and her pie making.

Yes, okay, Sydney ruined her rum raisin pie, which does
not sound good to me, by the way, and I'm
a pie.

Guy, not good at all.

out of here. The oven schedule had me laughing when
Juliet tried to sneak into the oven and Amber's like,

was really just so cute. First of all, I wish
a family Thanksgiving could be that organized, because even with
the drama, it was way too organize, everything just coming out.
Like I once didn't even try to make the Thanksgiving.
I literally had someone there helping and it still was
just a mess. And I had to clean up for

two weeks, Like it took two weeks to do all
the dish. I'm over that. I'm not doing that.

We do the Amazon pre made Thanksgiving, and by Amazon,
I made Whole Foods. But it's so much work. It
does still need Yes, you still need the timing, the
oven schedule, the clean her insane, like and.

It was so brutal and also twelve hours of work
for a twenty minute meal, right right, and like I
don't have enough room in my house, so I have
to set up a long, long table in my garage.
So we're all just out there in the garage. Like
it's just like, how about no we switched it to.

The club and Julia she had the issue with Sydney
continuing demand snacks, demanding a squeeze.

I felt like she was getting a little mad about that.

I know she's like Max has it. Max has it,
And it's like Thanksgiving is one of those days where

have the pie with the family, Like I do think

point when you have like twenty relatives in a house,
just like, I don't know, maybe I'm a bad parent,

Yeah, it's kind of like, uh so hectic. Okay, let's
talk about Gordon. Yeah, first of all, did you hear
Monica Pod? I had to rewind it.

So when Monica Fother sees Billy Baldwin and she's like
knows he's sold the company, and she's all kind of
like uh, and then.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
She's all, your hair looks nice. I literally laughed out
loud and had to rewind it because it's so subtle.
You guys have to go back and watch it. It's
so subtle. She's like talking to him like, oh, hey, Gordon, like,
how's it going? Your hair is good? Because his hair
was particularly like sort of gelled back.

You know. One thing I always noticed in movies in
general is how many what should be phone call conversations
become in person conversations just because of the drama.

Involved, Like which are you thinking of?

Like they're not going to ask Adam to come into
the office on Thanksgiving? Gord is not going to be
in there on Thanksgiving? Dan, like real life, he just
calls him and says look, here's what's up.

And I'm coming over to your house. Sorry in my
poor sorry to be you know, it's going to be
a little awkward. So right, like, no one's going to
the office, right, They kind of Thanksgiving Thursday.

No, never wouldn't happen.

That was so crazy, actually, and then Adam bustles down there,
and then Adam's disinviting Billy Baldwin to Thanksgiving, and then
Billy Baldwin shows up anyway, which, by the way, respect
to Billy Baldwin, if I was uninvited by my girlfriend's brother,
he should still show up. But then the fact that
then Loraa Lei Sarah Slash Lauren Graham breaks up with

him because he sold the The whole thing is so
much happening in one episode. And also this is like
farewell to Billy Baldwin. This is it is this his
swan song? Yeah, they kind of wrote him out fast.
I actually would have kept I like Billy Baldwin, Like, I.

Mean, it worked, you know, the arc worked, and that
scene worked, that the show, the episode worked with him,
just because they did cram too much into one day.
But the tension was great between him and the rest
of the family.

fully making out with Michael B. Jordan. And it was like,
if I were the mom like Monica Potter whatever her
name is, Christina, I definitely would be like, this is

I'm I mean, I like Michael B.

Jordan's oh hat an incredibly likable character, and that's such
a great couple. And I don't even remember where that

the ball. No, it's usually my fault because I just
get so excited I start shitty chatting away. Give us
the synopsis for this one.
Speaker 1 (01:17):
We are reviewing and recapping and looking back at season two,
episode ten of Parenthood, Happy Thanksgiving, which aired originally November
twenty third, twenty ten. Adam fears his future and he
has torn between his job and his family. After a
surprising news from Gordon. While preparing Thanksgiving dinner, Camille and
Amber share a bonding moment. Meanwhile, Drew feels uncomfortable about
(01:38):
his mom bringing Gordon to dinner. Crosby tries to impress
his future mother in law. Elsewhere, Juliet tries to embrace
her domestic side by making pies for dinner, but snaps
at Sydney.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
You know what, as you were reading that, it was
all coming back to me of like how great this
episode is. I don't even know where to begin. It's
maybe let's begin with first of all, what is Miles'
character's name, you know? And May Whitman's brother Drew. Oh
my god, see that's my menopause where I'm like, oh,
the names, they're all just blurring, you know.
Speaker 4 (02:12):

I loved that Zeke called his.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Dad yes at the yeah, right, that was great.
Speaker 2 (02:19):
So Drew was really struggling because Gordon was coming to Thanksgiving.
Now we know why they're doing this because John Corbett
will now be playing the part of Sarah's ex husband
he was not who played it in the original you
know pilot episode which I have a funny tidbit. Do
you remember, Mark, I don't even if you're gonna remember this,

but we call her spa Maria. So we had this.
We have this friend Maria, and she had like a
mobile spa and it would like come and do massages
and manicures and stuff like this. She's either married or
this is her long, long, long, long long time boyfriend.
Was the guy who played the ex boyfriend husband in
(03:03):
the pilot. John Corbett takes over the role. Now I
know that was very around the river and through the
woods Farris Bieler's uncle's brothers, sisters. But anyway, that is
our connection. But we know that John Corbett is coming,
so obviously they're starting to sprinkle in right seth things.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
I do want to shout out Miles, by the way,
the actor who plays Drew hol This is about it
as accurate a portrayal of a teenage boy as you're
going to see on television. Just awkward and uncomfortable and
shy and withdrawn.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
Hmm and subtle. It's never over the top. It's so
real and just that the phone and he's it's dad
and taking the phone call and then leaving the table
and then coming back and saying like Amber, dad wants
to talk to you, and she's like wants none of it.
And also Lauren Graham's brilliance with just the face kind
of the face acting, and also that Zeke had called

Seth to say call your son, but Zeke never reveals, Yeah,
he called you because I told him to.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
He didn't know he was going to. We just left
the message and.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
He just hoped. And that was like sort of the
brilliance and that, you know, I don't for people that
are watching the first time, it's not a spoiler, like
we are going to have Seth back in the mix,
and we are going to get to know their father
and it's John Corbett, which I actually loved John Corbett
that he was on Parenthood, and.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
I think that's a really good arc. If I recall,
I mean that's been it's been fifteen years, but I
remember they'd been a really good kind of you know
show can know.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Isn't it so weird? Twenty ten seems like yesterday and
it's like fifteen years ago.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
I'm surprised I remember as much as I do so,
And I like that Amber didn't just take the call
like she sort of was like mm pass, you know,
like a age girl portrayal totally. So I liked all that.
I thought, you know, I thought Craig te Nelson's particularly
good in this episode. He's good in the whole thing,
but just also the you're going to cut my bird,
(04:56):
you know to Dak Shepherd and the whole carving of
the turkey, Like, what do you what did you think
of all that?
Speaker 1 (05:02):
Well? I liked it. He was kind of like he
was kind of, you know, affronting, as the kids say.
He was kind of like, you know, no, no, no,
but he was you were sure was he kind of joking?
Is he not joking? But then there was a he
had the revelation that this actually means a lot. To Crosby, Yeah,
the right thing to do here is the handover the knife,
and so he did. Thought that was sweet, and it
was the same thing without him. Adam was like, are
you serious, No way, my job is right, it's such
(05:23):
a big deal to you. Go ahead.
Speaker 2 (05:24):
I also liked how how Crosby sort of went. First
of all, I have no idea how you carve a
turkey absolutely zero, no clue. Yeah, who carves the turkey
at your house?
Speaker 1 (05:33):
My father? Because he always they always come.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
So do you guys go back?
Speaker 1 (05:35):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (05:36):
They come out? Okay, got it. So you saw Crosbie
go for the turkey and you kind of see Zeke
like no, no, no, no, don't do it, and then he
kind of turns the knife and then he did get
sort of a beautiful Now I will say fresh turkey.
I don't know what you call it, turkey out of
the oven, whatever is really? I love it? Are you

a turkey man?
Speaker 1 (05:59):
I'm okay on turkey. I don't love turkey.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
I don't find deli turkey, but I love This is
going to gross you out. Prepared a gag might with
you on this. You know that I will eat the
turkey just dipping it in mayonnaise like it's like it's an.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Arm chowh I was. That's not where I thought you
were going.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Like, I literally will take up that slice of turkey
dip mayonnaise. However I do it. I'm not sticking it
in the jar.
Speaker 1 (06:25):
That's just regular Hellman's mayonnaise.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
The best foods. I don't know if that's best foods
only and then a little pepper and I'll just eat
that no problem.
Speaker 1 (06:37):
Wow. I mean, I'm a dark meat guy. I like
a dark meat turkey, so I'll have some dark meat
and uh and I'm okay with it. My mom taught
me the joy of skin, which is.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
I'm not anti skin, whereas like my mom would literally
like she would never well.
Speaker 1 (06:54):
Just calling it skin makes people gag, which I guess.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
First of all, I love how many gag riffers since
we've been It makes me think of the Gilmore Girls
scene that is so good. Sorry to pivot to Gilmore
Girls for a second, that we are having Gilgirls. Loralai
has gone to the some function at Chilton and Luke

is talking to the lady and then Loralai goes into
the diner to basically tell Luke like, don't date that lady,
and she goes I mean, I know, like you don't
make her gag or anything, and like it just makes
me laugh so hard. And Luke is just like so
irritated by Lorali telling him who he can and can't date.
But then he's like, by the way she was asking

for directions, It's just such a funny scene. Anyway, back
to parenthood. Back to so what did you think? First
of all, let's talk about Julia and her pie making.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
Yes, okay, Sydney ruined her rum raisin pie, which does
not sound good to me, by the way, and I'm
a pie.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Guy, not good at all.
Speaker 1 (07:57):
Hard pass on the rum raisin.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
I like pie, but I don't I love pie.
Speaker 1 (08:03):
I love almost all pies, but that I couldn't do.
I couldn't do mince meat, which I know doesn't him.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
First of all, all mince meat makes me think of
is friends and a layer of you know, the trifle
with the layer of strawberries and the layer of beef.
What is mince meat pie? Sounds like? Yeah, no, chicken
pop pie.
Speaker 1 (08:20):
I don't think there's meat in a mince meat pie.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
I just called that.
Speaker 1 (08:23):
It's just poorly named.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
I don't think I've ever had it, and it just
immediately I'm thinking of Joey.

There was so many pies happening. So what did you
think of Crosbies soon to be mother in law?

I don't know how not following her assignment, I wrote.

Her down as Jabbar's grandmother. Yeah, she decided she was
making pie dang it and come what.
Speaker 2 (08:49):
May, and I was fine with it.

Yeah, the more pie, the merrier.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
And also like she's that she's the grandma, let her
do it.
Speaker 1 (08:58):
I think there are certain rules for the elders that
you bend if.

They I literally loved Camille's situation though that Camille was
like Amber's my sous chef. Everybody else, get the heck
out of here. The oven schedule had me laughing when
Juliet tried to sneak into the oven and Amber's like,
I've heard about you. Back off. That was all. It
(09:22):
was really just so cute. First of all, I wish
a family Thanksgiving could be that organized, because even with
the drama, it was way too organize, everything just coming out.
Like I once didn't even try to make the Thanksgiving.
I literally had someone there helping and it still was
just a mess. And I had to clean up for
(09:44):
two weeks, Like it took two weeks to do all
the dish. I'm over that. I'm not doing that.
Speaker 1 (09:47):
We do the Amazon pre made Thanksgiving, and by Amazon,
I made Whole Foods. But it's so much work. It
does still need Yes, you still need the timing, the
oven schedule, the clean her insane, like and.
Speaker 2 (10:01):
It was so brutal and also twelve hours of work
for a twenty minute meal, right right, and like I
don't have enough room in my house, so I have
to set up a long, long table in my garage.
So we're all just out there in the garage. Like
it's just like, how about no we switched it to.
Speaker 1 (10:14):
The club and Julia she had the issue with Sydney
continuing demand snacks, demanding a squeeze.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
I felt like she was getting a little mad about that.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
Julia.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Yes, yeah, it's like chill out, lady, this kid, and
I know she's like Max has it. Max has it,
And it's like Thanksgiving is one of those days where
it's like this kid is just hungry.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Can you just give her some by the wayside, But
I mean she wants oreos instead of pie. I mean
have the pie with the family, Like I do think
you guys have see.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
I was like, let me put an oreo on your Like,
what kid really likes an apple pie?
Speaker 1 (10:47):
I think they all should if they don't try it.
It's delicious.
Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yeah, I mean, I don't know. It's like at that
point when you have like twenty relatives in a house,
just like, I don't know, maybe I'm a bad parent,
but let the kid have an ario.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
I guess hollidays you spend.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Yeah, it's kind of like, uh so hectic. Okay, let's
talk about Gordon. Yeah, first of all, did you hear
Monica Pod? I had to rewind it.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
So when Monica Fother sees Billy Baldwin and she's like
knows he's sold the company, and she's all kind of
like uh, and then.
Speaker 2 (11:35):
She's all, your hair looks nice. I literally laughed out
loud and had to rewind it because it's so subtle.
You guys have to go back and watch it. It's
so subtle. She's like talking to him like, oh, hey, Gordon, like,
how's it going? Your hair is good? Because his hair
was particularly like sort of gelled back.
Speaker 1 (11:58):
You know. One thing I always noticed in movies in
general is how many what should be phone call conversations
become in person conversations just because of the drama.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Involved, Like which are you thinking of?
Speaker 1 (12:11):
Like they're not going to ask Adam to come into
the office on Thanksgiving? Gord is not going to be
in there on Thanksgiving? Dan, like real life, he just
calls him and says look, here's what's up.
Speaker 2 (12:21):
And I'm coming over to your house. Sorry in my
poor sorry to be you know, it's going to be
a little awkward. So right, like, no one's going to
the office, right, They kind of Thanksgiving Thursday.
Speaker 1 (12:33):
No, never wouldn't happen.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
That was so crazy, actually, and then Adam bustles down there,
and then Adam's disinviting Billy Baldwin to Thanksgiving, and then
Billy Baldwin shows up anyway, which, by the way, respect
to Billy Baldwin, if I was uninvited by my girlfriend's brother,
he should still show up. But then the fact that
then Loraa Lei Sarah Slash Lauren Graham breaks up with
(12:59):
him because he sold the The whole thing is so
much happening in one episode. And also this is like
farewell to Billy Baldwin. This is it is this his
swan song? Yeah, they kind of wrote him out fast.
I actually would have kept I like Billy Baldwin, Like, I.
Speaker 1 (13:14):
Mean, it worked, you know, the arc worked, and that
scene worked, that the show, the episode worked with him,
just because they did cram too much into one day.
But the tension was great between him and the rest
of the family.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
That's just so weird, as like, I actually thought he
worked at the shoe factory for way longer. It's like,
we're getting the luncheonette way sooner than I thought. I
was like, Oh, I was like, does he go and
open his own shoe business? I guess it's a bit
before because he does work at the new company and
then eventually gets fired. I'm not This is not a spoiler, guys,

We're just having a conversation. I forgot. It's all happening
faster than I thought.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Yeah, well, I mean because it happened over the course
of many years and now you're doing one a week
and no correct?
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Correct? Did you think that Billy Baldwin and Adam Braverman
were going to punch each other?
Speaker 1 (13:59):
I mean for it, And I knew they weren't going to,
but I was still hoping for it.
Speaker 2 (14:03):
See, I don't hate Gordon like you do. I think
it's because I love Billy. Baldwin's my top Baldwin. Right now,
I've heard you say that before, you as many No,
and look, I have many a time when I switched
my Baldwins, Like there was a many a year where
Stephen was my number one.
Speaker 1 (14:20):
Baldwin, did you have a Daniel phase?
Speaker 2 (14:24):
Okay, no, but no disrespect to Daniel, But like there
was many times when Stephen was in my number one, right, I.
Speaker 1 (14:32):
Had a Daniel face because I loved homicide Life on
the Street and he was on there and he was great.
And also he went to our church away, So I
was pro Daniel for a bit.

Yeah, And I was pro Steven way before Haley. It's
not because he's like Bieber's grandpa or whatever. It's like, no,
I liked Steven. I had my Stephen era. Look, Alec
is I'm gonna stay tried and true to Alec because
like if you go back to the old Alec movies,

was the Baldwin. Yes, But Billy, here's what I'm gonna
say about Billy way to be consistent, because backdraft Billy
is no different than parenthood. Billy is no different than
I'm doing a weird TikTok with China Phillips.

Bill, that's fair, Yeah, that's fair.

They seem to be making it work too. And I've
seen Billy around Monacito and I'm like, oh, looking good,

So one thing I did take note of. I did
make sure to count at the Thanksgiving dinner there are
fourteen actors at that table, which I think has got
to be a chant.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
And you don't even I'm telling you, we've talked over
each other more on this podcast with the two of us.
Then they do they I don't know how they're doing it.
It's kind of Gilmore Girl's rhythm, right because like they.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
Do talk over each other, but they're raising and lowering
volumes or something, so it isn't distracting.
Speaker 2 (16:10):
Correct, something's happening where they're pulling it off. Also, I
appreciate the fact that it's not some awkward half table,
do you know what I'm saying? Like somehow they're shooting
it with all the people sitting at the table like
normal people.
Speaker 1 (16:24):
And it's not the left supper.
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Right, correct, it's like so awkward. It's like so saved
by the bell when you're like Slater and you know,
Zach are just sitting on one side of the table
and you're like what so yeah, I mean parent It
is amazing because I feel like I'm just watching like
a documentary.

Yeah, it does feel like that. It is so real.
I love the acting on it. And one other thing
I noticed was before we get to the end of
the show when Zeke needed a prayer, he looked it
up on Bing.

Oh my god. First of all, the sweet bing plug
because remember Bing Bang even around. I don't Bing tried
hard to be a thing.

I think they are still around. I think it's still

I mean, look, I have AOL, so I'm not going
to judge, but being the prayer was.

Yeah, it's still going strong. The prayer was so good.

And like the kids are like, what are we doing?
Like Sarah Braverman's like, what's happening? What are we doing?
Like what's going on? The whole thing is so good? Okay, wait,
what have we not talked about? The football game was
insane football.

Game, yes, which and everyone left. They was off the
kitchen and mask the table. The masks. We're just going
to go to.
Speaker 2 (17:37):
The f And also I didn't understand the rules of
that football game.
Speaker 1 (17:40):
No, it was very weird. Zeke seemed to be all
time quarterback.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
It's just like, this is uh not it. This is
very confusing rules, but totally fine. And I absolutely was
certain that Adam and Billy Baldwin we're gonna go to blows.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Well, and I believe Adam was right. Renee was clearly
out of bounds when she caught that ball.
Speaker 2 (17:58):
One hundred percent one hundred percent. I was like, hm, Also,
don't worry. We have not forgotten to talk about Michael B.
Jordan's kiss.
Speaker 1 (18:07):
Was that in this that's the second to last scene.
Speaker 2 (18:10):
Oh my god. Okay, So Hattie leaves the table which
was abrupt, which was abrupt, right, She's just like, you know,
peace out, Okay, yeah you can, And obviously Camille knew
what was up, yes, but they're like, okay go. Then
(18:32):
Monica Potter goes to pick her up, and she's just
fully making out with Michael B. Jordan. And it was like,
if I were the mom like Monica Potter whatever her
name is, Christina, I definitely would be like, this is
so awkward. Don't look look, don't look, look say something,
don't say something. Oh God, oh God, oh god. But
I'm I mean, I like Michael B.
Speaker 1 (18:52):
Jordan's oh hat an incredibly likable character, and that's such
a great couple. And I don't even remember where that
ends up, but I don't think it goes.
Speaker 2 (18:59):
It doesn't go forever, but no, it goes for a bit. Okay,

Michael B.
Speaker 2 (19:05):
Jordan pre Michael B. Jordan, but yet looking exactly like
Michael B. Jordan is my favorite thing about it. Yeah,
because we know it's pre movie star, but yet he
still looks exactly like Michael B. Jordan. It's not like
one of those things I know. I mean, I know
it's like Apollo Creed's son I never watched it, and
I know wasn't Milo vent Emilia Sylvester Stallone's son, Rocky's son.

Yep, so that was good. Yeah, the whole thing's a ten.
I'm going to actually give Thanksgiving a tent.

I'm still new here and I got a lot of
