Speaker 1 (00:00):
I am all in again.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Oh, let's you Gilmore Girls Gazette with Amy Sugarman and
Danielle Romo, an iHeartRadio podcast.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
May your blessings keep you always, May your wishes all
come true. That's right, Braverman's Inn. It is time to
talk parenthood and what I thought Mark was a fantastic episode.

Speaker 2 (00:35):
Oh my god, we disagree.

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Get out of here.

Speaker 2 (00:39):
First of all, great intro, really really really proud of
you for that geniusness. Stay tuned till the end because
I have an amazing menopause minute. This was not my favorite.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
Wow, this is my best one yet that I've been
here for.

Speaker 2 (00:53):
Oh my gosh, I am stunned by that.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
Let's start with Haley and Alex and that whole drama.
I love that she answers her cool little pink cell
phone from twelve. First, what am I doing? We need
to do a synopsis? Oh you know, I stick to
the fundamentals. People, Season two, episode thirteen.

Speaker 2 (01:09):
First of all, I love them. Just anyone listening, just enjoy,
Just sit back and enjoy the messy ride we're on.

Speaker 1 (01:19):
It's messy. Opening night, air Day, January eighteenth, twenty eleven.
Christine and Adam catch Hattie sneaking around with Alex and
forbid her from seeing him anymore. Sarah faces a new
challenge when Drew Telser he needs to sell five hundred
dollars with a wrapping paper. Meanwhile, Crosby and Jasmine have
to deal with Jabbar's bad case of stage fright right
before the school play. And that's what made me think
of it is because their cell phone was so twenty eleven.

(01:41):
That's why I had to go back and read the synopsis.
But I love the opening. First of all, that's a
fantastic scene, the confrontation on the front lawn. There he is,
there she is.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Yes, that was that. Yes, the episode started off.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
The parents coming bursting through the front door.

Speaker 2 (01:58):
Well, first of all, she's like waiting for them to leave,
and then they.

Speaker 1 (02:01):
Leave, Max forgot.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
They come back, and you know, she tries to run
out and it's just like ooh, and then and sort
of the drama of it, and then Michael B. Jordan's
reaction like.

Speaker 1 (02:12):
You're unbelievable, and then he walked off. But they're all
on top of each other. It's a classic Parenthood kind
of improv scene.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Yeah. No, that was really good. Good, Yeah, I was
in I have some flags on the rappet.

Speaker 1 (02:25):
We'll get to that. So then Haley goes to Camille.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Well, and you teed me up to not like the play.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
But I was so delighted by the plan. But we'll
get to that too. But so Hattie goes to Camille,
has a moment that I like, I have to go
to school.

Speaker 2 (02:41):
And the grandma did the right thing. You know. Look,
I think Christina tends to be a little not so
nice to Camille, typical mother in law daughter in law situation.
But Christina chill out.

Speaker 1 (02:56):
Well and then chilling out she and Adam go home
and take the door offer bedroom.

Speaker 2 (03:02):
That was so aggressive and also like, like you can
tell by their faces that like, do we even believe what.

Speaker 1 (03:08):
We're doing here?

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Well, and what's that solving?

Speaker 1 (03:11):
Right? We've dug a hole and now we're just going
to keep digging.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
Right, She didn't just like what right? I'm not totally
sold on their parenting.

Speaker 1 (03:18):
But so then the Christina and Camille confrontation. Christina gets
all mad that Hattie confided in her, which I understand
there's jealousy there that Hattie went to someone else. Now,
to me, the peak of the show the peak of
the shows that I've been watching. The scene with Alex
and Adam in Adam's office that was as good as

(03:39):
it gets. A phenomenal scene, two masters of their craft
at the height of their abilities going at it. The
sheer brilliance of Michael B. Jordan and Peter Crawse in
that scene blew me away.

Speaker 2 (03:50):
First of all.

Speaker 1 (03:51):
I know.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
And here's why I know, because it made me google
what is Peter Krause working on? Because I'm so upset
that he was killed off nine one one. I find
it to be like an insane move, like almost of
the fact that I'm like, I don't buy it, like
that the director, creator whatever he is, is like, it

(04:15):
was a choice. We wanted to kill off a major character. Wait,
you wanted to kill off your best character, like and
Peter Krausa. They all say like, no, Peter didn't want
to leave. But I'm like, it's so crazy they did that.
I digress. So I was like, what's he working? I
need him to have a new show because he's, oh
my god, nothing right now, He's still an executive producer

(04:37):
of nine to one one, But my thing is he's
They're so good and Michael Beach Jordan is just like
he's so good in this show. But also the character
is so like confident despite the like challenges he had
that you really are like you respect him, and you're like,

(05:00):
why don't you get that Adam Braverman, like, why don't
you get that this guy is so much better than
the ex boyfriend that you let her date that slept
with the.

Speaker 1 (05:09):
Cousin agreed, Now, I get it, my daughter, he's older,
private apartment, I get all that stuff. But he knows
he's messed up.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
But just tell her it's not. You can't see this
totally classy, great guy that even Camille fully vouched for
right who she and she knows him have. I'm not
mad at parenting parenthood, but have a have a situation
that's tenable. Right Just telling your kid never drink is

(05:41):
just going to make your kids sneak out and drink.
And you know, behind the wherever if you say to
your kid, hey, we have concerns, here's why, and as
a result, we trust you. But you know you're ABC
whatever it is.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
That's also a genius of this show. You would think
that after Adam talks to Alex, he would go to
her and say go to you know, maybe go to
what Christina and say, you know what, we should probably
reland on this. But no, he's sticking to his guns.
Can we had that talk with Christina? You think Christina'd
be like, yeah, maybe he is okay, But no, they
got to stick to their guns.

Speaker 2 (06:15):
Because they're parenting out of fear instead of trusting their kid,
who's such a good kid.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
But also, it's hard to admit you're wrong when you're
a parent. That is such a hard thing. But is it?
Think it is? Though it is and I I came
around on that and I'm pretty good at it now.
But I think that's what Christina going through. What are
we going to do now? We're even to each other that.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
Yeah, And it's like being wrong, being wrong is okay,
Like if I'm going to teach you a lesson of
the day because I'm so wise, like it's okay to
be wrong. I would be so happy for them to
be right. Yes, do you know what I'm saying? Like
where they go, hey, we we didn't get this one
right because we're first time parents too, that's it, do

(07:00):
you know what I mean? This is the first time
they've ever had a sixteen year old whatever she is, yeah,
sixteen because she was learning to drive and fix it.
I find Sarah Braverman to be better, not that as
a parent to be like, oh, I got it wrong,
let me get it right. I got it wrong with
men with the singing, you know, like, first of all, where,

(07:20):
by the way, where was Julia? Was Julia even in
this episode?

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Yeah? Not much.

Speaker 2 (07:25):
I don't remember seeing her one time. Maybe one time
she went into the sure the play and maybe she
went into one rehearsal or something. I don't even remember. No,
not enough Julia for me.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
After weeks and months of this play being an absolute mess,
it is now the most elaborate, complicated school play in history.
They have props, they have music, they have costumes, they
have special effects. There's running water on the stage. I mean,
it's insane in their production value.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
Well, not a great play. I'm like, is that good?
I don't really get it. I don't get it, like
she Marilyn, I guess it's the history of California something yeah,
and jabbar and so like, okay, sorry to well. But
the one thing I do like is that Crosby is
expressing himself quite clearly as to why he wants Jabbar

(08:25):
to try again, and Jasmine is also expressing herself clearly
she's not wrong, like, hey, he's in kindergarten, Like do
we have to push him on this one? That's sort
of one of those parenting situations where you're like, you're
both right. Probably Crosby's like a little bit more right,
you know, like, Okay, I get it. We don't need
to push our kids all the time.

Speaker 1 (08:46):
And Zeke saying him, come on, now, what are you doing.
You're you're the boss too, and then Crosby saying it's
a partnership and Zeke saying, god, that sounds dreadful. I
thought that was such a great lie.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Speak. That's been kind of awesome in like the last
three or four episodes butting in as a parent and
I'm like, I'm here for it, Like I'm here for it. Also,
the thing that I did love about this episode was
Sydney's negota.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yes, that was great.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
I'm like that little kid, yeah, her mom, and it's
kind of awesome. And Joel's like, no, Sydney, we're not
doing that, and yeah, Shepherd's like I'll play, I'll play. Yeah.
That was cute. And also that made me not feel
bad for her, So I thought it was like effective,
Like I think I would have had sort of oh no,
you just took her part away. But in this case,

(09:40):
I didn't have to feel bad and I could be
happy for Jabbar because it was cool with it.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Another example, really into the show, they've taken the time
to develop the character of Sydney that she's wants to
be on stage. She wants to spotlight. As soon as
you borrow out, she's right in there and she's just
like her mom with the negotiation. How many shows have
the time to develop.

Speaker 2 (09:58):
A kid correct And she's so like aasure doing business
with you, Like, you don't have to feel bad like that,
this kindergartener got her heart taken away. You're like, I'm fine,
it's fine, All is fine, and yea Jabar. Although here's
the thing I don't totally like. Of all the things
I remember in the episode, the play is sort of
like was that the end? I don't really remember.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
It, just like I thought this was so great. They're
walking back to the car after the play and Drew
didn't like the play very much, and Sarah calls him
al Roker for his bad review, and they often be
like Al Roker's not a movie he's not a critic,
He's a weather man. Like was that in the script?

Speaker 2 (10:32):
Or I think they're met Leonard Malton or Roger Ebert
or Jans's skill. Wait, I missed so completely. I feel
like I don't know. Was I falling asleep? What happened
to me? I feel like I missed the very end.

Speaker 1 (10:44):
Of the very casual conversation, like as they're walking across
the parking lot, it seemed very off the cuff to me,
and maybe it was I don't know, and that was no,
And then and then they get back to the car
and I don't I don't remember.

Speaker 2 (10:57):
Right something see episode was? I know you love it?

Speaker 1 (11:00):
But is it at that point that they find out
that Zeke bought all the wrapping paper? I think, maybe, yes,
so much.

Speaker 2 (11:05):
Sorry you are, and he gives that wink. But here's
my flaw on that. But under their money troubles, Zeke
and Camille, remember they had the building he bought, and
you know ed Julia's ex boyfriend, the guy from Scandal,
was like gonna buy it, and like all of a sudden,
that just went away.

Speaker 1 (11:26):
Always gonna spend on your grandkids.

Speaker 2 (11:29):
Correct, but five hundred bucks for all the wrapping paper,
I get it, But like, are we just over their
money problems? It seems like that storyline has vanished and
I'm fine with it.

Speaker 1 (11:37):
I didn't need it.

Speaker 2 (11:38):
And it was like annoying. Do you notice how they
work in a lot uh the time? You know, they're
very clear that this was a recession in America, and
they do that a bunch with the shoe, the whole thing.
It's like very clear, like and maybe because that was
such a big thing, then it's the one thing watching
back though that you're like, we're there.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Yeah, they wanted very badly to be every family, just
a random every family.

Speaker 2 (12:04):
Is that recession from the like when the housing crisis
happened with all those short sales or whatever that thing
where yeah, where it was like nobody could afford their
loans and it's a big old mess. They were giving
they were just handing out loans. You want a loan,
you got loan. You want alone, you don't have any
money to put down the mine, It's totally fine. Give
a dollar, just put give a dollar.

Speaker 1 (12:24):
Like we got one of those We got one of
those loans.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
You we did. I wish i'd nothing down. Yeah, you know,
I'm a thirty year fixed lady. I am now a
thirty years I always was, always, always was, always will
be thirty year fixed. I am not trying to gamble
with a home loan.

Speaker 1 (12:43):
No agreed.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Let me tell you this, people, I can never move
because somehow I got a three percent loan.

Speaker 1 (12:51):
Two we refined that in the pandemic, we got two.
We're stuck here for the rest of our lives.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Just live here forever because I cannot move. I cannot
afford seven percent. Correct, So I'm just like, Hope, I
like this place, but I go all right, Well, can't move,
so better put money into it. Like if something doesn't
you know, isn't quite.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
Right, that's it.

Speaker 2 (13:16):
I will die here. I told me, he said, just
take my dead body out of there. Hope it will
be one hundred. No, I can't move. Luckily I got
one story. You got one story, or two.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
We got two stories.

Speaker 2 (13:30):
Oh Grandpa, that's gonna be tough when you're ninety.

Speaker 1 (13:32):
Yes, we'll see what happens.

Speaker 2 (13:35):
Keep going.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Well. We kind of gave the ending away to Drew,
but you know he wants to buy the wrapper.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
The wrapping paper was Here's why I liked it. Yeah,
I love almost said Lorlie, I love a Lauren Graham
drew everything.

Speaker 1 (13:49):
Yes, but it was just like the wrapping January is funny.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Yeah, I guess it was fine. It was maybe a
little long with the woman that was going to buy
the wrapping paper, but she doesn't celebrate, and it was like,
you've wasted a lot of your time and their.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Time, and then Adam's mad. She's trying to sell it
at work, and then Zeke's like you.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Right, although every other person was selling their junk of book,
I was. I didn't even know she still worked there.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
Yeah, that's weird. I like the movement. When Zeke said
to Sarah, hey, you're late with your rent and Sarah said,
I don't pay rent and he says, really you should
pay rent more. Zeke classic z.

Speaker 2 (14:23):
Yeah, he's great. I missed Billy Baldwin. I'm not like crazy.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
I'm not missing Bill Baldwin. I'm good, I'm fine. I'm
fine with see.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Poor Alec in the Don't Tell Me Steven Baldwin crashed
the rain drover. Seems like everyone was fine. They swerved
some sort of It didn't seem like dramatic like there
was some you know, like Red Herring or something. Is
that the same smoking gun?

Speaker 1 (14:48):
Perhaps is a Baldwin moment also a part of the show.
They have the menopause minute and the Baldwin check went on.

Speaker 2 (14:53):
I mean the Baldwin moment is like very connected to
it as well. I know we we did get one
review of people saying too many tangents, but we got
another refuse saying I love them just talking about random craft.
Who do I please? Left or right? So I guess
I just go in the middle.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
But also, this is Amy, this is who Amy is.
If you're in a meeting with her, there's tangents galore.

Speaker 2 (15:19):
Yeah, I can't. I don't live in a straight line.
I go. Yeah, I got a lot to say about
a lot of things. What storyline have we skipped? I'm
still gonna go with. This episode is only okay, This
episode is only okay. Let me give the quick menopause
minute will really only be one minute because I have
another meeting last night went to the Shawn Mendez concert.
Texted you because I didn't know Shawn Mendes was still

(15:41):
such a thing. Let me tell you, Mark, he's a thing.
He's a massive thing, seven thousand people, just massive. Walking
back to the car, got a hurry because now I'm
one minute late to the meeting, walking on dirt because
it's been muddy and rainy.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Here.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
My one leg went down into a little bit of
a hole and I thought, WHOA, didn't fall recovered, walked
on like no problem, didn't even say out, just went WHOA.
That was weird. Drove one hour home. By the time
I got home, I thought my leg is sort of
really hurt. By midnight, no camp sleep because the leg

(16:17):
is completely messed up. And I believe this is menopause.
Things that I could have recovered from at twenty, like
a champ. Not so much everybody's asking that, not that
I can see, but like also menopause, Like I don't
have bone thin thighs anymore. So No, Black and Blues

(16:38):
took some ad built ice in it. I'll give you
an update next week. Don't let me forget.

Speaker 1 (16:41):
Thank you for this episode.

Speaker 2 (16:44):
Oh eight point nine. No, I'm gonna give it a
I'm gonna give it a eight point nine.

Speaker 1 (16:53):
Wow. May you stay forever. Braverman's out.

Speaker 2 (16:58):
Bring that energy.
