Rory to be a partner, and Rory and Jess arguing
(01:05):
on stop even with the townspeople whirling around them on
the dance floor. There's a lot more meat to the
bone on this episode, and it is one of the
great great episodes. But let me bring in our guest, Gabe.
So you're up there in Albany, I am.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
Yeah, Well, technically I'm driving to Chicago right now.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
You're in the car.
Speaker 4 (01:26):
I'm on a bus, I'm on tour, So I appreciate
you guys being cool of it.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
You know, I listened to I watched Drift last night.
I liked it.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
You guys are serious.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah, well I think it's a great song.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Dude, thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
And you've got two guitars going. But I didn't see
a bass player. What's that about.
Speaker 4 (01:48):
Yeah, we had to didg so the bass player left
the band or whatever right before we shot.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
The music video.
Speaker 1 (01:54):
Okay, so it was a full.
Speaker 4 (01:55):
Five piece now it's a four piece. But I actually
moved to bass for but I'm back on guitar.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
Well, you can get away with it if yeah, you
just control the volume, control whatever. But it's a rock
and song. I really really really like it.
Speaker 2 (02:13):
Steaks Man, that's amazing.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
Are you coming to California? You guys touring California? Staying
on the East coast.
Speaker 4 (02:19):
Unfortunately we're staying on the East coast. This is actually
our last tour. We're breaking it up, so it's our
last tour.
Speaker 1 (02:26):
Why do you want to do that? Why would you?
Why would why do you want to break it up?
Speaker 2 (02:30):
So I've been touring since I was you know, I
left college at eighteen or nineteen, and I've been touring
since then.
Speaker 4 (02:37):
I've been twenty I'm twenty seven now. We hit a
little bit of a plateau over the last three years
and I actually I just moved to Los Angeles.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
And oh good, okay, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
So I it's just I think it's time.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Who produced that song?
Speaker 2 (02:55):
This guy Sam Guyana in Toronto?
Speaker 1 (02:58):
Okay?
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Big, like big in the pop punk sort of like
Blink one eight two, right, uh yeah, all American reject stuff.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
That's so cool. You listen, dude, thank you.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
I'm look. I write music. I've I've done apiece that
you know. I'm all into it.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah, dude, Well, let's jam when I'm in back in
LA when I'm done with a tour, because I'm doing
some solo music now.
Speaker 1 (03:21):
I tell you, it's it's just one of those things,
a really great band and a great song that you
know that didn't pop, right it didn't. Yeah, for some
reason it didn't catch on, but it should have.
Speaker 4 (03:35):
Yeah, dude, But you know, it's not like it's the
last ten years of my life. It's everything I've ever
known and I've accomplished everything I've ever wanted to do.
Speaker 2 (03:44):
You know, I've toured the world and those are my
best friends.
Speaker 4 (03:47):
So I'm just yeah, everything's still good, and I'm gonna
start a new band, and you know, I'm having a
good time. I fell in love and I'm like, oh yeah,
I actually kind of want to be home and not
beyond the road.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Yeah. Yeah, that's feeling. Being on the road's tough, I
you know, man, shit, yeah, I'm sure I was on
the road from God.
Speaker 3 (04:13):
That was what twenty twenty to twenty six, and I
just got so sick of it.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
You were in a band.
Speaker 1 (04:20):
No, No, I was a professional baseball player, so I
was constantly traveling. Dude, constantly traveling.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
I knew you played baseball. That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
I even played in Albany when the Yankees had their
Double A team there in like nineteen eighty five, the
Colony Yankees. Yeah, you weren't even born yet. You weren't
even a thought. You weren't even an idea yet.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Damn dude.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Yeah, we used to go and Albany day had the
Valley Cats. Those are that was like our are Like
I don't even know if it was TRIPAA or whatever.
Maybe it was just like a G League sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (04:57):
The way, What was this.
Speaker 1 (05:00):
Starting pitcher?
Speaker 2 (05:02):
That's awesome? Baseball player?
Speaker 3 (05:06):
Yeah, I was.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Wait, so then how did you get into acting?
Speaker 4 (05:09):
Where were you born?
Speaker 1 (05:11):
Fill out here?
Speaker 3 (05:12):
I get in? I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:14):
I just fell into it. You know. I met some
people in Europe and I went to Europe after my
career it was over and trying to figure stuff out,
and I just I met. I met a couple and
they lived in New York and they were acting students,
and I stayed with them when I left Europe and
they put me in their class. So that was That's
kind of the start of it.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
That's so, did you did you played ball in Europe? No?
Are you you went?
Speaker 3 (05:43):
I did the opposite of playing ball in Europe.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
That's awesome.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
No, Europe was that was about living.
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Played a different kind of ball, that's awesome. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
I struck out a lot. I had a lot of
home wrongs. Yeah you swinging for the fences, buddy, Yeah,
in every country I was in.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
I lived in Philadelphia for a month or so, and
then I had to bounce.
Speaker 4 (06:21):
My mom moved. My mom moved like got there and there.
But my girlfriend's from Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Yeah, so what got you into? Did she get you
into Gilmore Girls? Did she get you into watching it?
Speaker 3 (06:37):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (06:38):
But I like, so, yeah, she it's her comfort television show,
and so like she would put it on when she
had nothing to you know, when she just wanted to
relapse at night, she'd throw it on. She'd be like,
can we watch Gilmore Girls in day? And I'd be like, yeah,
I don't care, because normally we would watch TV.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
On the couch. But it was kind of the thing
that like Gilmore Girls, with Gilmore Girls would be strictly
laptop in bed, that's vibe, like cozy, We're gonna put
it on to go to sleep. But she's seen it
a million times.
Speaker 4 (07:11):
I've never seen it, so she would fall asleep with
it the first fifteen minutes and then I kind of
just like got hooked. After the first couple of episodes,
I was like, well, this is interesting. This is really interesting,
Like the whole family dynamic is very interesting, right, And
I just kept watching it, and then you know, I
would watch she'd go to work and I'd be home
(07:32):
and I'm gonna watch I'm going to watch some shows
and that way I can talk to her about it,
and so I actually, yeah, I just started really liking it.
Speaker 1 (07:42):
So we're talking about the dance marathon. Yeah, dude, good episode.
What do you think overall the dance poll?
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I love I love the episode. I thought it was great.
Season three so far is.
Speaker 4 (07:57):
Becoming to be like a favorite of mine for specific reasons.
I mean, there's a couple of characters I love the most.
You know, I'm hyper focused on the male characters in
lor Lyon Rory's like dating life.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
So like I'm a big I'm a big Luke fan.
I'm a big jazz fan. Uh and just in big
Dave fan.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
Yeah, yeah, I had that great man, what a great
scene that was.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
Yeah, And I was gonna say, so like this episode.
Speaker 4 (08:28):
I think it had a little bit of everything for Luke, Dave,
and Jess and even even Dean because I like, I
like Dean right now, but that was clearly I mean,
I guess we can get into it later because there
were some pivotal things happening in that episode.
Speaker 1 (08:45):
Get into it now, man, just get into it. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (08:48):
Well, you know, you see Dean's like, it's crazy how
Rory's like patience. It's like you watch her grow up.
She's just getting thinner. It's getting thinner. And thinner with Dean.
But it's tough to because I understand where Dean is
coming from. It's like I've been seventeen, I've been jealous,
I've been like unable to control my like emotions, and like, dude,
(09:11):
if I saw my high school girlfriend, like, I'd be like,
why are you staring? Why is he staring at you?
Why does he have his girlfriend here staring at you?
You know, and why are you like you're kind of feeding.
Speaker 2 (09:23):
Into it, you know.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
So I understand where he's coming from. But obviously there's
better ways to handle that stuff. But yeah, the dance marathon, dude,
and when moral is like looking at you basically being like,
hopefully I can find a dance partner. Yeah, that's is
that a fun I mean so funny? Stars Hollow has
(09:47):
all these like little events. I've never I never grew
up in a town like that, so but it must
be a real thing community.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
Yeah, it is in towns, you know in the Northeast
have them. Where I grew up, they have them, not
that frequently, but as they do, it starts hollow. But
that's a small town, that's you know, that's less than
seven thousand people or even less it feels like to me,
(10:18):
I don't know there's an exact number. I don't know
what it is, but it's but it's small. But yeah,
that's that's the Northeast. You know, they celebrate the seasons.
Speaker 4 (10:27):
And see that is and I feel like I picked
such a good time to start watching the show. I
guess Anna, my girlfriend picked such a good time to
show me the show because it is it is like
falling into Falls is almost into the winter, and the
decorations on on in the show.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
It's just so cozy. Dude, I love it. I love it.
It is.
Speaker 1 (10:50):
It's and once it gets you, then you realize how
funny it is, how smart it is. Oh and you
just and it doesn't It doesn't talk down to anybody.
It doesn't try to slow itself down so people can understand.
It's just they they just go full.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
It's so relatable to I mean, my family is kind
of similar to Like my grandma was very similar to Emily,
and I was more of a lore lit of the thing.
You know, Like my dad grew up went to boarding school. Uh,
(11:28):
they're all his brothers went to boarding school. He wanted
me to go to boarding school. I was like I'm
not going to.
Speaker 2 (11:32):
I'm not going to boarding school. You know.
Speaker 4 (11:35):
I didn't want to go and do anything like that.
I just wanted to play music and actually this tour
in a band and stuff like that. So I see
a lot of myself in law lif but uh, not
in Chris though I don't like Chris very much.
Speaker 1 (11:52):
Yeah, not many people do.
Speaker 4 (11:54):
Yeah, yeah, I guess your character doesn't like him too
much as well.
Speaker 2 (11:59):
I mean, dude, it's the it's the Luke and Lorelie
thing is like, I I hate to talk about it
because I never want it. I'm I just have no
clue what happens, you know what I mean.
Speaker 4 (12:12):
But it's just like from from season one, I was like, oh,
they have to they're perfect, You're literally perfect.
Speaker 2 (12:19):
But it's it's cute how shy Luke can get m hmm.
It's interesting. It'd be such like a like a boss,
Like it's such like a like a man's man.
Speaker 4 (12:33):
And then I don't know, there's something I think there's
something to be said about like when you like you
find like the one you know, it kind of puts you,
takes you down a little bit.
Speaker 1 (12:43):
Yeah, man, the fear, right, Yeah, the fear of the
fear of it not working out, so you don't really
take the shot. Yeah, yeah, you'd rather just sit in
your fear.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
But I do love those moments, dude.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
Like even in that episode we watched, like you weren't
her dance partner, but you still fixed her shoes.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
So she could win.
Speaker 1 (13:07):
You know, you have a big conversation there about kids,
you know, you know, yeah, i'd have a kid, sure
if I met the right person.
Speaker 3 (13:13):
Well, I have a kid if I met the right
It was it was kind of.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
Yeah, yeah, it's like we both know what we were
talking about. Like, yeah, they're taking it slow, that's what
you know what? Maybe I just thought they're taking it
as slow, that's what they're doing. I got a lot
of respect for Laura and I though, like for like
doing that and not really involving Rory too much in
(13:37):
her like.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Love life and stuff like that. But uh, yeah, what
a good show man.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
I think I think this episode, I you're right to
point out that it really featured the guys on the
show in their best light, yeah and the worst in
some cases.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Right.
Speaker 1 (13:59):
I think Jess really showed a side extraordinary maturity. Bottom line,
he wants the girl and he's willing. You know, all's
fair in love and war, and he's waging a war.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
He really is, ever since he got to Stars Hollow too.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Like I've I've always uh thought the confrontation between Jess
and Dean.
Speaker 2 (14:32):
And sort of the like.
Speaker 4 (14:35):
It's like almost like animalistic, like to two animals making
themselves as big as possible.
Speaker 2 (14:42):
Right, It's just interesting, there's something I love.
Speaker 4 (14:45):
The reason I love Jess so much is because I know,
you see, you see what he would do for somebody
that he cares about, you know, and so you know,
the potential is there.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
He's just has a lot of trouble.
Speaker 4 (15:04):
But it's like what you want out of a partner
is to bring the best out of that, right, you
want to be able to bring the best out of
your partner. If already does that for Jets every single time.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
But he's he's so not the right guy for her
totally because he can't do that with anybody else in
his life. He's found the one person he can do
that with that does not bode well for their future.
And when she recognizes that, she gets out. And because
(15:40):
that guy is an accident waiting to happen because he
cannot he's so immature emotionally and so underdeveloped, and his
life experience is just filled with trauma. So he's just
sort of bouncing off the walls and he finds this
he's you know, he's low at sea and he finds
(16:01):
this booye in in Rory, and he's gonna probably you know,
take her down to the bottom of the sea with him,
and it'll it'll look good, right because they look good together.
But man, that's a recipe for disaster. And but it's
like we're so hopeful that and knowing intellectually that this
(16:24):
isn't going to work out emotionally, we're just like, gosh,
help this kid and go ahead, Rory, and just protect
yourself Rory during Yeah, you know, don't let him take
you under.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
Yeah, maybe you can save him.
Speaker 1 (16:38):
He's he's so good looking and his hair is great
and he seems like a nice kid. Like like, straighten
this kid out because you know, it's just is gonna happen.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
It's funny because like, you know, there's probably so many
similarities with Jess and Lorelei when Lorelai was just his age,
and it's almost like, like I think she said in
that episode, like it was in it that one on
a Lumbo story where you know, well, she's seventeen, it's
about time for Jess. It's about time for a Jess
in her life, you know, like she's kind of watching her.
(17:11):
I mean, obviously we're all watching Riy grow up and
stuff like that, but uh, it's it's weird, like moralize.
The initial reaction to Jess obviously was just like, well,
he's no good. Exactly what you just said, Like she
called it from the jump on it, she.
Speaker 1 (17:26):
Knew so Kirk though, let's and yeah, I mean another
really it's it's showing Kirk in his best light and
(17:48):
his funniest and the absurdity of his intensity to be
the five time champion. Yeah, it's just so good.
Speaker 2 (17:59):
Kirk my favorite.
Speaker 4 (18:01):
Kirk and Suki are my favorite, like stars, hollow characters,
like the ones that aren't you know, like primary roles.
Speaker 2 (18:08):
I guess or whatever you would say. But he was
really funny, I can't you know.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
It's funny to see his like quirks, Kirk's Quirk's like
and what he would take super seriously and what he
wouldn't take super seriously. It's funny that that that he's
a five time champion of the twenty four hour Dance Marathon,
which is crazy to be dancing that Loe, it really is. Yeah,
Kirk is a good one. What else the SUPI? And
(18:39):
was that the one where SOUPI got into a fight
about the kids?
Speaker 2 (18:44):
The four and four? Four and four it's a little while.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
It's a lot asking let's go asking a lot of
your wife and four.
Speaker 2 (18:53):
Yeah, come on dude, Wow, yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:56):
I mean I don't even know if that's safe. I mean,
that's that's that's really pushing it.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
You're out of commission for for half a decade on
that one.
Speaker 1 (19:05):
I mean four and eight years is a lot, right,
But yeah, it's just look, you know, people have their
plans and they plan out their life and this is
what they want and this is the time frame they want.
Speaker 2 (19:19):
To do it and got to respect that, right, Yeah, totally.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
But still four and four?
Speaker 2 (19:25):
Whoa sounds like a sounds like a Wendy's deal.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
There's a great line. I'm not a fast food over here.
What do you do? These aren't cheese burgers?
Speaker 2 (19:41):
Yeah? You get maybe like two and four. Let's split
the let's.
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Split half the new foreign for deal Jackson Burger King, Right,
that's good that's a little Ma Cob too though. Anyway,
I really enjoyed. You know, I think the biggest laugh
for me, amongst all of the big laughs that I
(20:08):
got out of that episode was with David Galasey came
in and did the coolest thing, you know, right in
front of missus Kim and she had no idea what
was going on, and the guy just that was the coolest,
slickest Yeah, oh yeah, that's so great.
Speaker 2 (20:29):
You know what.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
I love someone that can read a room, right, because, like,
especially when you're a kid or whatever and you don't
have the like bandwidth to do something like like.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
He's he's on top, locked in. He was like, Oh,
this must be the mom. I know that.
Speaker 4 (20:46):
You know, she's not even allowed to play music, Like,
she's definitely not gonna be able to hang out with me.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Yeah, what'd he say? He's like, I'm gonna go give
these to my family.
Speaker 4 (20:57):
And he was like, my parents, Oh, they're at church
right now, church right now, I mean you'll give.
Speaker 2 (21:04):
Them to them. Well, they'll be getting out. I'll be
waiting on the step.
Speaker 4 (21:08):
Yeah. I'm excited for that. I'm excited for that art.
I'm a big Adam Brody fan. So I didn't know, dude.
The cameos in this show are crazy.
Speaker 3 (21:17):
Yeah, they're good.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
So big Adam Brody fan obviously a musician. So the
fact that, like, you know, and Lane knows her stuff.
Lane's talking like deep cups and some pretty intense music,
musical stuff.
Speaker 2 (21:33):
So I'm excited for I'm excited for whatever is about
to go down with them.
Speaker 1 (21:37):
Oh yeah, you don't know.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
Oh yeah, yeah, you're you're gonna you're gonna laugh, You're
gonna laugh.
Speaker 2 (21:42):
We should get Dave for Rory.
Speaker 1 (21:52):
Day for huh. Wow, that's that's a good idea. Actually, yeah,
maybe he's the baby daddy. You never know because they
all they asked this question all the time. Who's the
who's the daddy? Oh you don't know?
Speaker 3 (22:08):
You know?
Speaker 1 (22:08):
Sorry, I I don't mean that's a spoiler.
Speaker 3 (22:13):
Sorry, no, I'm sorry.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
No way, dude.
Speaker 2 (22:19):
All right, I'm gonna I'm gonna pretend I never heard that.
Speaker 1 (22:22):
Just Just get out of your head, wash it right
out of your brain, all right, man?
Speaker 2 (22:28):
It uh, it broke up, It broke up.
Speaker 1 (22:31):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (22:34):
But you know what what's funny is like I've been
posting my my recap videos on the internet, and some
people are in the comments and they're a little bit
you know, there's names being dropped. I'm like, hold on,
we didn't get to them yet, Like we don't know. Yeah,
let's let's not spoil actually in the so you know,
I'm on I'm on tour right now, so it's hard.
Speaker 2 (22:55):
For me to and we're in a bus. We're not
doing hotels, so it's hard for me to get on
Wi fi. So I was in the venue the other
night watching it on my laptop.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
Someone comes up to me and it was like, oh
my god, what part are you at?
Speaker 2 (23:09):
And then they drop this. They're like, wait, did this
happen yet? And right right I'm like, whoa, whoa, whoa.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
You have to tell people right up front, okay, yeah,
because the joy that fans take in talking about it,
they'll give you twenty spoilers. You gotta tell them, hey,
first time watch your don't tell me anything please.
Speaker 2 (23:31):
Yeah. Like I took a little too long to answer,
I can go. And she's like, oh, wait did this happen?
I'm hey, hey, you need to turn around and walk away,
like I need to take a break because yeah, they'll Yeah.
Speaker 4 (23:44):
So you know, it's good watching it with my girlfriend's good.
She doesn't spoil. We have pretty similar opinions on the show, right,
But it's been great having this show. I mean, seven
seasons of a good show. It's like I couldn't ask
for anything.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
So Paris, Yeah, Paris. See, all of that stuff was
great too. That all of that stuff was you know,
even Madeline and Louise had great lines and were in
great situations when they had to set this that Saturday
night was off and they went and hunted down the
boys in the class to get dates. And the way
they did it, the systematic approach, it was hysterical. Wait,
(24:22):
what was that that episode which dance marython, Yes, Paris.
The guy, the snoody, condescending guy, Jamie comes from Princeton
to grant his availability, to grant her, you know, his
glorious presence that I've chosen to arrive again and trop
(24:46):
myself into your life. And I've thought about it, and
we're going to go out Paris and please try to
contain your excitement, you know.
Speaker 2 (24:54):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
Yeah, man, Yeah, But but she was happy, you know, yes,
Paris happy.
Speaker 4 (25:02):
I like Paris.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
I always not always have I thought I thought in
the beginning Paris was going to be sort of the
like mean girl that becomes the best friend, but she
kind of is always the mean girl who will there's
this weird obviously obviously like the weird respect for each other,
but they're just never going to be like best friends.
(25:22):
And that's just kind of a vibe. But I like Paris.
It's it's nice when she the same with Jess, when
she shows.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
Like a little bit of a different side to her
for a second, You get it for a second, and
then it goes back.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Why do you think Rory sticks it out with Paris.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
Dude, that's such a good question. I think Rory is
just like a good Rory's there. She's there to go
to school, you know, and like she's there to go
to school, she's there to go to the next step.
And I think she sees Paris for what she is.
I think she sees that Paris is like overdoing it,
(26:01):
you know, and she's just like at a She's at
an elite school, so she imagines there's going to be
elite students, and Murray knows that you can get through
that without acting that way. And I think that's why
she kind of maybe feels feels for Paris. A little bit,
you know, and that's why she. I don't think Rory
(26:22):
wants to have a bad relationship.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
With anyone, right, especially somebody that has, you know, the
journal and intellect that sort of matches hers. Yeah, and
could cause her big trouble and has proven that fact
early on that she could cause a big trouble unless
(26:45):
she adapts.
Speaker 3 (26:47):
Rory is very adaptable, Yeah, and this is all part
of that adaptation.
Speaker 2 (26:54):
You can kind of tell how adaptable Rory is.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
I mean, especially just like building the relationship with their
grandparent and see know, like dinner at her grandparents house
compared like Emily and Richard's dinner versus.
Speaker 2 (27:06):
Like getting take out with her mom.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
She loves both, and she kind of and switched her
attitude in her personality at both, which I think loyalize.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
You know.
Speaker 4 (27:18):
It's hard for Lorelei to see sometimes that's that's so difficult, dude,
But so many families probably relate to this show unlike
an insane level.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
Emily was a little back on her heels, you know,
because what laurrel I was going through at that dinner
was a hysterical b completely unexpected. She took that phone
call from the husband of the nurse that was checking
them in, and I said, no, I don't hon to
(27:58):
sleep with you. Yeah, and Emily's listening to this like
what is my what is my daughter doing?
Speaker 3 (28:07):
What?
Speaker 1 (28:08):
She was so just.
Speaker 3 (28:11):
That that was my favorite Friday night dinner scene of
all of them.
Speaker 1 (28:16):
Of all of them, that one nailed it.
Speaker 2 (28:19):
What an entrance dude? Yeah, oh yeah, I don't want
to sleep or what was it? It was like I
didn't sleep with him. I didn't sleep with him. Yeah. No.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
She was talking to him and he was calling her
to say, somebody showed my wife a picture of you
right right and said you look like Elizabeth Taylor. And
then under no circumstances are you going to go to
the dance marathon with her? And he was calling to
tell her that she's going, like, but I'm not going
to sleep with you. You know, I have no I
(28:48):
have no interest in sleeping with you.
Speaker 4 (28:50):
I just needed so And then yeah, she goes and
checks in at the dance and she's like, you don't have.
Speaker 2 (28:57):
Buck teeth and.
Speaker 1 (29:03):
You don't have scars and scars overbite and yeah, that's
so good, so good, and plus you know, we let's
let's give credit where credit is due this is a
Kenny Ortega directed episode, Okay, yeah, because they wanted to
(29:28):
bring in a big, you know, a big experienced name
who has proven that they can handle this level of
extras and action going on and just you know, big
sets like this and that's the that's the perfect guy.
Speaker 2 (29:45):
Yeah. I was pretty I was pretty impressed with the choreography.
Speaker 4 (29:50):
A dance room when you know, the competition started and
everyone just seemed to have really wonderful dance moves.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
I thought that was pretty cool.
Speaker 1 (30:00):
Exactly they did. There was there was a variety of them,
and you bought it, you believed it, but it was
It was really funny. A big scene closing scene at
the bridge, Rory and Jess confessing their love for one another.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Oh my god.
Speaker 4 (30:17):
Yeah, Jess when he goes, he gets up and Rory's like,
where you're going?
Speaker 2 (30:22):
And He's like what is he saying? He says like
I have something to do or I gotta do something
real quick or something like that. Yeah. Yeah, he kind
of says all the right things at the right time.
But I'm glad.
Speaker 4 (30:36):
I'm glad that that happened silently because I never put
any you know, I understand where Rory was coming from.
But my whole thing was like, she just needs to
break up with Dean and even Jess, that's just what happened,
what needs to happen. Yeah, I didn't really think it
would be this way, Like I didn't think Dean would
(30:57):
sort of snap like it's the way he did and
in the dance room. But I guess, you know, whatever
has to happen has to happen. And it was a
really sweet moment on the bridge. I kind of I
love how that bridge is like, and that's where things
go when it gets real tender, almost.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
The bridge over troubled waters.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Yeah, whoa, that's cool. See, there's so much art in
that show.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
There really is. All right, let's let's talk about you. Okay,
enough about this show, but let's talk about why we're
really here.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Gabe, sure, sure, So you know you.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Actually caught our attention with these viral videos of yours
in these charts. Yeah, but what you make about Gilmour
and how you're experiencing this show for the first time.
All right, So overall, over all the shows you've ever seen,
how would you rate Gilmore Girls?
Speaker 4 (32:02):
Oh, so far, I'd be rating a Gilmore Girls probably
around like an a an eight. I've never watched a
show like Gilmore Girls before, if that makes sense. So
it took me a second to adjust to it, and
I think once I it took me a couple episodes,
(32:23):
and once I got once, I got to probably the
third episode, I was just completely locked in, like completely
fully locked in because of how relatable I think it is. Uh,
And then yeah, now I've given about an eight. I'm
really excited to see where it goes.
Speaker 1 (32:40):
You know, now it's you know, obviously a female skewing show,
but how do you think it caters to a male
audience as well?
Speaker 2 (32:49):
It's so funny.
Speaker 4 (32:50):
A lot of my friend my dude friends have seen
it under the same circumstances that I have. Started watching
it right, and it's like, yeah, my girlfriend showed it
to me, but I love it.
Speaker 2 (33:02):
Like it's literally been that.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
I've talked to so many people, just not even friends,
but like random people where it's like.
Speaker 2 (33:11):
I asked the question first, say, I say, did you
watch Gilmore Girls? And they say yes? And then I
go did you start it on your own?
Speaker 4 (33:22):
And they're like every time they're like no, But I
think it, dude, I think it caters wonderfully to a
male audience because it's about family, you know, and it's
about relationships.
Speaker 2 (33:36):
And I.
Speaker 4 (33:40):
I'm an emotional guy, you know. I deal with like
a lot of emotions. And I think there's lessons to
be learned in every show. And sometimes, you know, I'm
watching it and I'm like, Okay, i'll watch I'll watch
someone overreact, or I'll watch someone make a mistake and
I'm like, Okay, I know that's not how to act now.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
Or you learn lessons from it and stuff like that.
Speaker 4 (34:02):
So I think it caters very well to a male
audience totally, you know, and especially if you're in the
right setting, if you're with someone you.
Speaker 2 (34:09):
Love, if you if you're cozy on the couch or
in the bed, like if you if if it's I
don't know, it's it's nice. It's nice having a comfort.
It really is a comfort television show.
Speaker 1 (34:21):
You know.
Speaker 2 (34:22):
It kind of feels like a warm hug, right, That's
how I like to put it. All.
Speaker 1 (34:27):
Right, So your charts, yeah, on your videos, so they're
mostly like good versus bad.
Speaker 3 (34:32):
Who's currently in the good call?
Speaker 2 (34:34):
Currently in the good column?
Speaker 4 (34:36):
We do have we have Luke obviously, Luke kind of
stays at number one for me, and I don't want
it to be like a personal bias, but it's just
like he.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
He it is a personal bias.
Speaker 4 (34:49):
I think I just like him the most, but also,
like if we're going fact based, like there's something I
love about him as he cares about Rory, Like not
only does he care about Laura, but he actually just
really loves Rory and he shows that across every season
I've watched so far.
Speaker 2 (35:06):
Mm.
Speaker 4 (35:07):
So that's why he's number one for me, because you know,
I had a mom, I had a single mom growing up,
and uh, I had a bunch of stepdads, and it's it's,
I don't know, it's like the kid is important. Yes,
if if you're going into a relationship and and your
partner has a has their own kid, it's you know,
you're not just dating the mom, now, you're dating the
(35:29):
whole thing. So it seems like Luke is just completely
down for Rory, like like it as if she was
his own. So Luke is obviously there. I have Jess
there because when Jess came in, I mean Jess was
always just he's just a cool guy.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
He's kind of like what I'm.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
Obsessed with as far as like just like guy stuff.
You know, he's he was smoking cigarettes when he showed up,
Like he has a cool car. He's he's a badass,
and uh, I always you know, I kind of obsess
over those types of like hyper masculine guys that are.
Speaker 2 (36:10):
Just kind of like really cool.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Uh Dean is underest in the good with an arrow
pointing towards the bad.
Speaker 2 (36:18):
It kind of means he was on his way out.
Speaker 4 (36:21):
I have now, I have now pushed Dean over to
the bad column and uh yeahs teams why but I
mean he he.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
He he dumped Rory.
Speaker 2 (36:34):
He should have totally.
Speaker 1 (36:36):
Why does that put him in the bad column? Why
wouldn't it leave him in a good column? Because it's
like he's standing in his grounds. He wasn't getting his
respect and he moved on and he did it in
a way that was unexpected. And I mean you can't
really blame the guy. I mean, he was getting humiliated
for months or even you.
Speaker 4 (36:56):
Know, totally humiliated it the great word for it. And
I just don't I don't like the way he talks
to Rory. And I think that's because he's a kid
like Luke for instance, can be stern with Morla. They've
gotten into I mean, same sidewatch, they've gotten into maybe
(37:19):
two serious things.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
Yeah, and you can be stern and still be respectful.
Speaker 4 (37:25):
However, I understand Dean has been disrespected like I do
think Rory, you know, made some mistakes in that relationship
so far, you know what.
Speaker 1 (37:35):
You're right.
Speaker 3 (37:35):
There were a few moments where Dean got kind of dangerous.
I don't remember.
Speaker 1 (37:42):
I think it was on the sidewalk at night and
he popped at her and I thought, whoa brother, calm
it down. That's a little scary right there.
Speaker 3 (37:52):
He did, He did. There were times where he went
a little big.
Speaker 2 (37:57):
So that's the thing.
Speaker 4 (37:58):
And I think that you're right that I wonder if
everyone is gonna if it's a human Jealousy is a
human emotion, you know, and we all feel it from
various degrees. I think it's just about what you do
when you feel it, you know how you react, and
so Dean's it's just with the show growing, Dean's reactions,
(38:19):
we're getting bigger and bigger and bigger. You know, maybe
they were deserving reactions, not deserving the emotions, were deserving
to feel because he clearly was like going through an
interesting situation with Jess and even Tristan, which I like
Tristan by the way, but I just don't like the
way he talked to Rory in the end, like the
(38:40):
last maybe three like blow ups. I'm just like, dude,
if you really kind of just need to back away
from the relationships. So that's why I'm throwing Dean in
the in the bad column for now. People can redeem themselves,
you know. And Dave is in a good column for sure,
no reason to be in the bad column. And I
(39:02):
think I had Tristan in the good column, but I
erased him because it seems like he's no longer in
the show because even when he you know, he made
a quick appearance and in season three, I think, but
he had to go, he had to go left for
a different school or whatever because he became a bad
boy or something like that, and he spoke to Rory
(39:24):
with like great respect, and I really like, I just
like the way, you know, I'm I'm really focusing the
chart on how they treat their romantic partner, I guess,
And that's why in the bad column, the same way
Luke is parentheses kind of always up there in the
good column. I have Chris pretty much just stuck in
(39:44):
the bad column. And he really blew it, dude, he
really blew it with this Sherry thing. M And I understand,
like he wants to show up for his new daughter.
But I think the reason he blew it not it's
not that you know, that's good. He should you get
very pregnant, you should go be Sherry's you know, be
(40:05):
a dad or whatever.
Speaker 2 (40:06):
But don't go. You know, maybe the timing was bad.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
But like he comes in and he professes his love
not only for Lorili but for Rory, and and then
the next day is like, I gotta get out of here.
Speaker 1 (40:18):
Yeah, he's a child, he's a child.
Speaker 3 (40:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
And I just I don't know if I don't understand
with like Emily and Richard why they like him so much?
Speaker 1 (40:28):
Just why because they are they are they are to
the manner, born and bred, and so is Christopher. And
they turn a blind eye because of their what's the
term now, their confirmation bias, right, and it just it
really does blind people to you know, horrible traits that
(40:51):
you know. Yeah, but they're community members, possess and they
certainly will not see them. They refuse to see them,
and that's just one of those cases.
Speaker 2 (41:01):
That's a good Yeah, that is a good point. Yeah,
they're very staunch in their opinion.
Speaker 4 (41:06):
So it's like if they if the if Chris was
the one from the get the Jump, then yeah, maybe
he stays that way. But so Chris is in the
back column and uh, I had Max in the bad
column as well.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
He's kind of an older character.
Speaker 3 (41:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (41:20):
Max didn't handle himself well, did he at the end?
Speaker 2 (41:24):
No, it was pretty much you know what it was.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
It was like it was like Dean but in an
adult body almost, and it's just like, Okay, Dean can.
Speaker 2 (41:34):
Get a pass as a kid. Max, dude, you're you're
an adult.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
Like, like, I didn't.
Speaker 1 (41:43):
I never approved of that relationship in the first place.
It's like, Lorelei, what are you doing? Yeah, it's like,
what are you doing messing around with one of Rory's teachers.
It's their first year there, and you're like, you know,
trolling for dudes?
Speaker 3 (41:57):
What are you doing?
Speaker 2 (41:58):
Yeah? Yeah, is interesting.
Speaker 4 (42:01):
It's funny because like with my chart, you know, it's
primarily the it's it's the romantic interest focus and she
loral I just kind of kept it low key in
season two, didn't really do much dating, and even so
far in season three has been pretty pretty relaxed on it.
I'm like really waiting for like Luke and Lorelai saying
(42:25):
that happens. They have these they have these like small
organic dates that happened randomly.
Speaker 2 (42:32):
Just because they're friends, and it worked out like that,
and every time I'm like, are you guys feeling what
I'm feeling? Yeah, So that's my chart. That my chart.
Speaker 4 (42:45):
We went to Anna, my girlfriend and I went to Target,
and I was like, should we get a whiteboard? So
we just kind of had a whiteboard in the house.
And then yeah, I started watching the show and I
was like, I gotta to write this down. Keep these
boys like the like, I gotta keep these boys accountable
is what I had to do. There.
Speaker 1 (43:03):
You go, man, all right, tell us about your music.
You got to ban young culture. You're currently on a
tour bus right now talking to us. We really appreciate
you in the middle of the country in Illinois. I
think you just said you're passing the other tour. Yeah,
(43:26):
you know. I I when they said you were coming
on last night, I watched, Uh, I googled you and
I I watched a music video you made called Drift,
and I thought it was an extraordinarily well produced, brilliantly
performed song. It is really grassroots. You guys are in
(43:48):
your garage and you're jumping around, and the photography was
was really great, but it wasn't too slick, you know,
but it was super professional looking, and I mean, it
was really great video and it's a great song. So
check it out everybody. Drift. So how's it going. How's
the tour going?
Speaker 2 (44:06):
Tours? Good, tours great. You know. I've been doing this
for my whole life essentially since seventh grade.
Speaker 4 (44:15):
And we just put out some new music and they're
just playing some shows around around the Midwest.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
And East Coast and stuff like that. So it's it's
been wonderful. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (44:28):
I've been in the young culture my whole life, really
since doing it with my best friend Alex since seventh grade.
And I'm twenty seven now, so dream it has been
such a dream. Yeah, you know, I just moved out
to Los Angeles not too long ago. That's been another
dream come true.
Speaker 3 (44:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:50):
It's funny.
Speaker 4 (44:51):
You know, life, life works if you just keep if
you just do what makes you happy, If you do
what makes you smile. I feel like you know you
and kind of do anything you want.
Speaker 1 (45:02):
How you set up and do you have a booking
agent and all that stuff.
Speaker 2 (45:07):
Yeah, yeah, books an agent.
Speaker 4 (45:09):
It's been fortunate enough to build a nice little team
of agent, manager, record label, all of which you know,
bucket list stuff, thing come true. And we've since you know,
toward Europe and the UK and Australia and America.
Speaker 2 (45:28):
Bunch.
Speaker 1 (45:28):
You know, I was really surprised when when Emma told
me to that you were coming on and oh.
Speaker 3 (45:34):
He's a musician and let's they write songs.
Speaker 1 (45:37):
But the video was really well done.
Speaker 3 (45:39):
The musics great.
Speaker 1 (45:40):
You guys. Look, guys, go check these guys out. Young Culture.
It's a really good band. It's one of these bands that,
you know, let's say you go to a show and
you're going to see the headline or whoever it is,
and this is like, you know, there's three or four bands,
and this is one of the first two bands, warm
up bands. They blow away the headliner. You're those guys, right,
(46:04):
You're you're those guys that are like, I like Young
Culture better than Billy Idol, you know, or whoever. It's
like you guys are really good and I'm actually can't
wait to listen to more of your stuff because that's
the only song I heard. But there's a whole library
(46:25):
of music that you guys have and I want to
check it out. So what's so, what's going on now
in your career? Tell us? Tell us about your career now,
what are you doing? What are your plans? Uh?
Speaker 4 (46:35):
So this is one of our final tours. Will find
out some means. It seems like the band's gonna be
taking a little bit of a break. My life is
just you know, we're getting older. I never you know,
I never wanted to like buy a house in my
life or like get married and stuff, And now I'm like,
(46:57):
I just want to be able.
Speaker 1 (46:59):
To do that jump my house.
Speaker 2 (47:02):
Well I can't.
Speaker 1 (47:03):
I don't do that.
Speaker 2 (47:06):
No, I'm renting now.
Speaker 4 (47:09):
I've been writing a lot of music good, sort of
like a solo thing, and I'm excited about that.
Speaker 2 (47:15):
And uh stumbled into.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
The last two years some weird internet content stuff that
where you know, I just post my videos on tiktoking
and accent sort of came out of nowhere. I also, yeah,
just dude, I just I kind of just knew what
makes me happy. I have a best friend, we have
a podcast together, and uh, I'm signing you know, new
(47:42):
ways to stay happy every single day.
Speaker 2 (47:45):
Uh, happiness is a choice.
Speaker 1 (47:48):
I believe you're it is it absolutely is. Who Who
are your big musical influences? Who's grow up listening to?
Who really influenced your writing?
Speaker 2 (47:58):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (47:58):
Back when I was, like when I was young, I
was loving Fallout Boy pretty much, Dude, I was such
a big fall up with there. I just wanted to
do what they did. I wanted to be in a band.
I wanted to tour, I wanted to play shows, and
I wanted to have people like kind of like singing
stage diving like I wanted it to be.
Speaker 2 (48:20):
And I did it, and I'm like, oh god, it's
it's awesome.
Speaker 4 (48:24):
Uh fall Out Boy, Blankney two, that that that whole
pop punk early two thousands.
Speaker 2 (48:33):
Okay, a little different now listening to a lot of
folk and singer songwriter music.
Speaker 1 (48:41):
But you listen to any Crosby Stills in Nasal.
Speaker 2 (48:45):
Uh yeah, not a ton, but yeah I'm around that.
Speaker 1 (48:49):
Yeah, it's a whole different it's a whole different field.
But man, the musicianship is off the charts.
Speaker 2 (48:54):
Yeah. Yeah, well it's so cool you listen to the bands. Yeah,
so tour dude, I used to love to I just
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (49:01):
I'm all about bands.
Speaker 2 (49:02):
I was.
Speaker 1 (49:03):
I was in my first band in.
Speaker 2 (49:04):
Third grade, That's what I'm talking about.
Speaker 1 (49:07):
And we went all the way to high school. Then
it broke up.
Speaker 2 (49:12):
Well that's really cool. And then he played baseball.
Speaker 3 (49:14):
Yeah, it's it's a it's a it's an old story.
It's an old story.
Speaker 1 (49:20):
I was dejected the band had broken up. I was
walking by a ball field and I just took my
guitar and I hit a ball as far as I could,
and the coach said, hey, there are you, skinny little jerk.
Come on over here and maybe try out for the team.
Speaker 2 (49:35):
Yeah, you hit a home run first try.
Speaker 1 (49:37):
