Speaker 1 (00:00):
I Am all in again. Oh that's just you.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I Am All in Town meeting with Suzanne French and
Tara suit An iHeartRadio podcast. Hi guys, welcome back to
another episode of I'm All in Town Meeting with myself,
Tara and Suzanne.

Speaker 3 (00:29):
Hello.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Hello, Say we're talking about season two, episode ten, The
brace Bridge Dinner, which aired on December eleventh, two thousand
and one, which was a very winter episode. Yes, I
was like, oh Christmas.

Speaker 3 (00:45):
Yeah, the last episode we talked about aired on November
twenty seventh. I remember that date because it was that's
my friend's birthday. But so it looks like they took
a week off and then aired Bracebridge Dinner.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Yeah. And also after this, the next episode didn't air
until January, so this was like a full month off.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
This was the last episode of two one.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
So they had to give us some kind of a
wintry episode since there wasn't a Christmas episode.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Yeah, or Thanksgiving. We didn't do a thing again, that's.

Speaker 3 (01:14):
True, that's true. We just we implied the holidays, but
we didn't actually show them.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
When this episode started and they had that wig for
the snowman in the basket, I thought it was like
a cat.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Like I looked at it and I was like, what
is in the basket?

Speaker 2 (01:29):
And then when they put the wig on, I was like, oh,
I forgot, Like I was like, what is that?

Speaker 1 (01:35):
By the way, I have.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Not seen this episode in a very, very very long time.

Speaker 3 (01:42):
I love this episode, so I played every now and then. Yeah,
this is the ones that's in my rotation.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
It's so funny because it's not in mind.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
But like, I thoroughly enjoyed this one, Like it was
really really fun. I actually don't really have many criticism
notes on this because it was just fun and we
were so like out of our element, like we were
fully in at the Dragonfly wait independent Independent, sorry Independence,

(02:10):
we were fully at the Independence end. So like it
was just a different set. There was nothing I was
really looking for. And the I did not see a
clown pillow in the moments that we were at the Gilmour.

Speaker 3 (02:20):
No, I didn't see the clown pillow either. Yeah, not
in this one. But yeah, I, like I've said many times,
I love the episodes that focus on the town. So yeah,
I just like you said, at the Independence end, it
was so much fun to see the whole town there,
and we saw Richard talking to Taylor, and we saw

(02:41):
there was a there was a shot they didn't you
couldn't hear them, but there was a shot you could
see in the background where mss Patty was talking to Missus.

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Kim, Like, I did see that. Actually, it's a great.

Speaker 3 (02:51):
Like, you know, just mix up of all the characters.
And we haven't seen Babett and Maury for a while.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
Yeah, and like Babbett across from Missus Sam, who was like,
did you pray or whatever?

Speaker 1 (03:00):
He said, Grace.

Speaker 3 (03:02):
Yeah, it's I just I love this episode. I just
I really enjoy it. Yeah, and it feels it like
we said it, it just feels very wintry. It's it's
just gotta I don't know, I just like the vibe.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
The one thing that was interesting to me is, I
know we've mentioned it before, is Dean's sister acts.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
So young for her age.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Yes, Like it's I mean, I understand maybe she has
a high pitched voice, but like.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
She acts like she's like seven. Yeah, I noticed that too.

Speaker 3 (03:34):
And I comment on that, I think every time we
see her. But like the thing with with the horses,
and she's like, we're gonna miss all the good horses
and she's trying to drag him out, but she's like
just like whiny and squeaky.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
Squeaky is the best way to decide.

Speaker 3 (03:48):
It wasn't It wasn't like atween would act. It was
like a younger kid.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
Yeah. Yeah, it's a little like like out of body,
you know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
And I'm like this, it seems like they added her voice.

Speaker 2 (04:01):
To like like it was like a voiceover that wasn't hers,
because I was like, this is just I don't know
it just she seems she acts too young for her
age for me.

Speaker 3 (04:12):
Yeah, well, and I think the dialogue is too young
for her age. Like maybe that's what it is for
a younger kid.

Speaker 2 (04:18):
Like when she's like, oh, don't kiss in front of
me and I'm like, yeah, whatever, Yeah.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
She wouldn't have said that. And the episode where Rory
scared her because she was pretending to be the girl
scout or whatever, yeah, that was not like a ten
or eleven year old would not have been scared of
Rory in that situation. It feels like they wrote the
part for a younger character right right, just crying.

Speaker 2 (04:44):
But that's the thing is if you wrote too young
for her, then you had the opportunity to write her
a little older at this get we get more interaction
with her this episode. Like, I also did think I
will say I did think it was very sweet that
Dean brought his sister, Like if you think about it
in context, like it's very pretty cute.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
Yeah, And I because I at first I was like,
why would he bring his sister and not his parents,
But maybe like his parents wanted a date night or something,
and so you know, they sent the things out. I
thought it was cute and yeah, and I thought it
was funny when Bootsy looked at her and he goes,
I lost track of how many beers I've had, and
she goes seven.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
The interaction with everyone at the table was was really fun.

Speaker 3 (05:30):
Yeah. Yeah, And there were some fun like long shots
of the whole table that you could see everybody that
was there, and there were a couple people like sprinkled
in that weren't regular characters, but it was it was
just fun to see everybody together.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
But yeah, those those big shots like it's just nice
to see everyone, you know, yeah, sitting.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
Yeah, and we saw Rune again. It's been a while
since we've seen it.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Took me a second because he was like bald for
I was like, that's rune because I was used to
the hat.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
Yeah, I I felt like they could have used ruine
more often. I was kind of bummed that we don't
see him again after this episode. But he was a
good comic relief.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
I thought, yeah, because he is at the end of
the day, he is Jackson's cousin, so it's like not
like he's like, he's still family.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
He'll come around, right, so right, and they established that
he was working at the end and staying in the shed.
So but then they never showed him again.

Speaker 1 (06:25):
So we don't see him again after this.

Speaker 3 (06:27):
No, this was the last one. I felt like that
was a missed opportunity, like they could have thrown him
in every now and then.

Speaker 2 (06:33):
Which, by the way, it's been a couple episodes since
we've seen Richard, yes, like it's always just been Emily,
like he was Richard was always away for work or whatever.
So we finally got to see which was a big
scene with Richard and Emily and obviously like him retiring.
But I don't know, I really liked all the Richard

(06:53):
and Emily scenes this episode.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
I think they were great. I think it was real Yeah.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
I think part of it is because both he and
Kelly Bishop live back east, and so if he had
something else going on and couldn't travel to La like,
maybe that's why he was because he was out of
like three episodes, I think.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Yeah, But he wasn't there for the barbecue. He wasn't
there last week.

Speaker 3 (07:18):
Right, He's always like out of town doing whatever. And
the fashion show was before this, so yeah, it's been
a while since we've seen him. So yeah, it was
good to see him and kind of get get that
storyline going. One thing I wanted to comment on, and
I don't know if people know this or not, but

(07:39):
the Bracebridge Dinner is a real thing.

Speaker 1 (07:43):
Oh really it is.

Speaker 3 (07:45):
So it's they've been doing it at the Iwanee Lodge
that's in Yosemite. They've been doing it since nineteen twenty seven.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Yeah, it's and it's really cool. There's a website and
you can look up there's some really cool pictures. But
it's based on a Washington Irving book from the like
mid or early eighteen hundreds, like eighteen twenty something like that.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
So oh my god, look at the images. It looks
so cool.

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Yeah, it's gorgeous. And it's apparently very expensive and very
hard to get tickets for. But but yeah, it's a
real thing, so it's kind of obscure, So I don't
I think maybe a lot of people don't realize.

Speaker 1 (08:24):
That, not only in Yosemite.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Yes, as far as I know, So I wonder.

Speaker 1 (08:29):
I wonder how.

Speaker 2 (08:33):
How Amy and Dan thought of it to bring it
to like Connecticut. But then also, weren't the people coming
from Chicago.

Speaker 3 (08:39):
Yeah, so they don't really explain how that all got
set up.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
But one thing I thought was funny, Gilmore.

Speaker 3 (08:48):
It really is that lodge in Yosemite is was the
inspiration for the hotel in the Shining and laurl I
actually it makes a reference to the Shining in this episode,
So I thought that was a funny little connection there.
I don't know if that was intentional or not, but.

Speaker 2 (09:07):
I mean probably I feel like Amy's brain works that way.

Speaker 3 (09:13):
Yeah, that's true. You know.

Speaker 2 (09:24):
What was really interesting for me to see this episode,
which is very random, was what the rooms look like
at the Independence in Mmmm.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
It was very I love the pink sheets.

Speaker 3 (09:34):
Yeah, yeah, it.

Speaker 2 (09:36):
Was very in in vibes like it was kind of
exactly what I thought.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
Right, And I think that might be the only time
we ever see like one of the guest rooms.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
I was thinking that too, because I was like, I
specifically remember the scene with like when Emily and Lorelei
are putting their like face cream on the same way,
Like I had that vivid memory of how it looked
because of that.

Speaker 1 (10:00):
And then I was like, I don't think we ever
see it again.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
Like they always talk about, like, oh, you're in room
like five or whatever it is, but.

Speaker 3 (10:05):
Right right, yeah, I can't.

Speaker 1 (10:07):
I can't.

Speaker 3 (10:07):
I know we see the Dragonfly rooms a couple times,
but I don't. I can't remember. Yeah, I can't remember
seeing it at the independence end. One thing I would
have liked to have seen, I'm not. I don't want
to criticize this episode too much because I love it,
but I wish when they had the harpist that they

(10:28):
had brought Drella back.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
I know, I was thinking the same thing.

Speaker 2 (10:32):
By the way, what was it when she was on
the phone and then like someone of the line was like,
are you calling from heaven or something like that.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
Christopher said it was so fun. That was such a
funny line.

Speaker 3 (10:43):
Yeah, that's one of the only Christopher lines that I like.

Speaker 2 (10:49):
Yeah, speaking of the Christopher of it all, Like I
thought it was kind of weird that she was holding
that back from Rory when she literally asked Christopher like
anything with Rory you have to like pat like you
like ask me, so he was doing. I'm not like
I'm giving Christopher that much credit, but here I am,
because he actually did go to Laura I and say

(11:13):
is this okay? And then she still withheld the information
and then it was like forced out. It wasn't even
forced out of her, but she just acted very weird
telling Rory it's her dad, like yeah, I do.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
Christopher does get a little bit of credit for doing that,
for going to Lorelai first, And I guess it was
really just I mean, clearly Laura I was jealous, like
it was oh, very obvious. So I guess that's just
where that was coming from. Like she just wanted It's
almost like she was just avoiding it, like she didn't

(11:48):
want to think about it, so she put it out
of her mind while they were getting ready for the dinner, yep,
because she didn't want to. She didn't want to have
to deal with it. She wanted to just ignore it
and hope it would go away. I don't know, that
was kind of I think.

Speaker 1 (12:03):
That was kind of in character for her in character,
out of a character.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
In character. I guess you do not want to deal
with it because she wants to keep she wants to
keep Rory to herself, which I totally yeah.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
I mean, I guess it is awkward knowing that, like
your daughter is going to be hanging out with your
ex's significant other.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
Like, but that's the reason.

Speaker 2 (12:26):
That's the only reason why I think Christopher wasn't was
doing the.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
Right thing by asking Flora.

Speaker 2 (12:33):
I yeah, I don't give it much credit, but here
I do right right exactly.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
She had clearly blown the whole thing up in her
mind into something more than it really was. And because
she even referred to Sherry as Rory's stepmother, it's like
she's not her stepmother, right, I mean, they're living together,
but like, let's not make more out of it than
it really is.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
They like just met or not even just met, but
like you know what I mean, Like it's it just happened.

Speaker 3 (13:00):
Right, right, and they're living like he moved from California
to Boston to be with Sherry, but he's finally like
you know, within a couple hours drive, so let the
kid spend a holiday with him, Like, it's not gonna
kill her. So yeah, I don't know. I I think

(13:21):
she could have handled that differently and not hid it
from Rory.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
Yeah, I agree. Yeah, do you have many call outs?
Because I don't have any of this episode.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
I do have some, So there's some good ones in
this episode. So first one, speaking of the Christopher scene,
I'll start with that one because we were just talking
about him. Okay, so now this one I have. I
grabbed some screenshots and I will send them. In the
scene where when they're showing Christopher in his apartment and

(13:52):
we're looking like through the bookcase at him, there's bookends
on the bookcase that are also in an episode of Friends.

Speaker 1 (14:02):
Oh that is so specific.

Speaker 3 (14:04):
It is and I don't even remember how I noticed it,
but I see it every time now. So it's in
the Friends episode. It's season.

Speaker 1 (14:14):
Are they special bookends? Like, what is it?

Speaker 3 (14:17):
Well, it's it's the it's a letter A and a
letter Z and it's the it's from the episode of
Friends where they're looking through Monica's apartment for the Christmas
presents and they find these bookends and they were from Chandler.
But Phoebe and Rachel were kind of making fun of them,
and so they Rachel has them both in her hand

(14:38):
and they're talking about them, and Phoebe makes a comment
about them. So I grab some screenshots this morning.

Speaker 1 (14:44):
I can tell you why. Like why.

Speaker 2 (14:46):
It's so when I've done the I've done the Warner
Brothers tour many many times, and Friends filmed at Warner Brothers.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
There's literally a warehouse where.

Speaker 2 (14:56):
You It's like you it's like checking out a book
from a library, you check out furniture. Yeah, so they
probably just were decorating the bookshelf and then just took
I don't think it was like a My guess is
it wasn't like a ooh, this is like a friend's clue,
which I mean, it's probably the same thing.

Speaker 3 (15:14):
I don't think they meant for it to be related
at all. I think it was like, oh, we need
some bookends for this bookshelf. Let me just go grab some.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Yeah. But it's funny that in Friends it was like
part of the storyline, right, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:26):
Funny, but yeah, because.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
I was literally picturing, I was like, because I've done
the tour, so I know, like what stage Friends was on,
and then obviously Gilmour is just everywhere on Warner Brothers,
and I knew the exact location of like where that
warehouse is that you go and check out, because I've
seen a couple of the same lamps in different shows,
Like I think there's a lamp that's I think there's
a lamp that's at the the Dragonfly at some point.

(15:49):
I think I saw it in Pretty Little Liars, so
like it's really, yeah, I feel like I've seen that,
but it's also because I had it.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
It's from Ikia.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
Oh funny, Like I had the exact lamp, so it's
just funny.

Speaker 3 (16:01):
So there's that. And then probably one of my favorite
little inconsistencies from the whole show is when all the
guests are arriving at the d and Rory and Dean
are talking and you can see people coming in the
door just in the background behind them, and you see

(16:21):
Luke and Jess come in. Luke takes his jacket off,
Laurel I walks up and starts talking to them, but
it's all like we can't hear what they're saying because
we're focusing on Rory and Dean, who are in the foreground.
And then it cuts to a different angle, and then
they they show them come in again and Luke takes
his jacket off again. So we see Luke take his
change off twice twice into different Oh that's funny.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
Yeah, that's just like an extra take. And he did
it the wrong time, right.

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Yeah, exactly or the Yeah, they were at a different angle.
And then one thing I noticed. I've seen this episode
so many times that I've known noticed this until I
watched it just this most recent time the slaves yep.
Is it green screen?

Speaker 1 (17:08):
No?

Speaker 3 (17:09):
I don't think it was green screen because you can
follow all the landmarks around the town square. But I
noticed that Luke and Lorelei were going one direction and
everybody else was going the other direction.

Speaker 2 (17:21):
Huh See. That was the one thing where I was like,
did they just film like my I was trying to
figure out because the angle of the camera was so
odd to me. Yeah, and so I was trying to
figure out if they just filmed like around town and
then put this sleigh in front of a green screen
and just like put it over. I Mean, I could

(17:42):
be wrong, but I was just because the angle was weird.
I was just like, it seems like it could be.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
It could be. Yeah, maybe I just thought it was
funny that Luke and Lorelai were going like counterclockwise.

Speaker 1 (17:54):
And then everyone else going everyone.

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Else went clockwise when they showed like Richard and Emily
and uh or Jessy they were going flockwise.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Oh see, I didn't pay some of that.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
I paid attention to, like what is this camera angle
with this possible green screen?

Speaker 3 (18:10):
Yeah? And did you notice that when Jess hopped on
they were right next to.

Speaker 2 (18:15):
Luke's Yes, I actually did notice that because I was like,
where are they? I hate to say this because I'm well,
I'm a Jess girl, so I gotta say it.

Speaker 1 (18:27):
This is I think like the main episode where you're.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
Like, yeah, I get it, Like I get the hype
of Jess and then but I don't like what he
makes digs at Dean because it's like for what, like
just do your own thing, you know, like when he
says like, oh, what do you and Dean talk about?

Speaker 1 (18:44):
Like who cares?

Speaker 2 (18:46):
Just talk about what you want with Rory, you know, right,
But it got in her head because now she's thinking
about it.

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Yeah, I mean I think at first he was kind
of I think I feel like he was just probing
for information, like trying to figure out are they really
that close? Right, you know, how solid is this relationship?
But then it did get in Rory's head because there
were several times that like Dean caught her looking at him.

Speaker 1 (19:13):
Oh yeah, at the end when they're all checking out.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
Yeah, and also when they came in, So yeah, it definitely,
it definitely got inside her head.

Speaker 1 (19:23):
So it's the beginning of the end.

Speaker 3 (19:26):
Yeah, you can feel there's something brewing.

Speaker 2 (19:29):
Yeah, I know it's getting me excited because I like Jess,
but this is what, this is what. And you know,
they did a great job with the writing to make
Dean feel a little like them over Dean, like I
feel like any Like yeah, whether your team Dean, your
team Jess, your team Logan, you can't not admit that
at this point, you're like, eh, I think we're ready
for a new guy.

Speaker 3 (19:50):
Yeah, I think, especially after the last episode where he
was being such a turk about watching Rory rehearse and
he was like standing in the back of the room
with the scowl on his face, Like that was when
I was like, all right, I'm done with Dean.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
I can't remember if I said it in the episode,
or maybe I was just thinking it never said it
out loud, But going back to last week's episode, it
did really bug me. Like, mind you, if I was
doing a play with someone who I who liked me,
who I had a kiss with, who I don't know
at all, it would bug the heck out of me.
If my boyfriend's just standing two feet away from where

(20:26):
I'm trying to act out the scene, just watching me,
when he has nothing to do with this.

Speaker 3 (20:30):
Right, I totally agree. Yeah, And when she asked him
to leave and he's like, I don't like the way
he's messing with you, it's like, well, you know, it's
not your concern, like Rory can handle it.

Speaker 2 (20:42):
Also, he's messing with her because Dean's standing right there,
right exactly.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
It was the whole point, Like anyway, we already.

Speaker 3 (20:49):
Talked about that episode, but yeah, that was that was
when I was kind of over the whole Dean thing.

Speaker 1 (20:54):
Was Yeah.

Speaker 3 (20:56):
After that, Oh, I did notice that missus Kim got
a haircut.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
Oh yeah, yes, yeah, yeah, she did. She had much
fren It also was nice to see her and Lane.

Speaker 3 (21:05):
Yeah, it was nice out of the house together, right,
because that kind of thing is not like a missus
Kimp sort of activity. So it was fun that that
she went.

Speaker 2 (21:13):
I like that.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
Yeah, I have one more thing. It was I scrolled
down my notes and it was way at the bottom.
So one thing that bugged me, I mean not bugged me,
bugged me, but that I noticed is we never did
So there's the whole thing about Rory and going with
Christopher for Christmas, but they never told us how she decided,
so we don't know, right because they left it like
she was going to think about it, and so we

(21:35):
don't know if Rory decided to go with him or not.
So that's very that's very Amy. Sherman Palladino.

Speaker 2 (21:41):
It was like, oh, we're at a Christmas episode, we
should mention Christopher that like her dad's still around.

Speaker 1 (21:47):
Yeah, that was it.

Speaker 3 (21:48):
It's a very Amy way of writing that she like
leads you right up to the edge and then just
leaves you hanging. So she does that. But yeah, so
that was the only other note I had.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
All Right, well, next week we're going to watch season two,
episode eleven, Secrets and Loans.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
I do remember this one, yes, being.

Speaker 3 (22:09):
