Speaker 1 (00:00):
I Am all in again.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
Oh it's you.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
I Am All in Town meeting with Suzanne French and
Tara suit An iHeartRadio podcast. Hey guys, welcome back to
another episode of I'm All in Town Meeting with myself,
Tar and Suzanne.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Hello.

Speaker 1 (00:30):
Hello, it is a lazy, hazy crazy Day.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
I love this episode.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
I have my own take, but we'll jump into it.
We're talking about season three, episode one, Those Lazy Hazy
Crazy Days, which aired September twenty fourth, two thousand and two.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:50):
I the second the song started playing, I was like, oh,
I remember this place through the whole episode, yes, and
it's and at one point she says, uh, she's going
to listen to Small World to not make it anything.
I have the argument that this is more annoying than

(01:10):
Small World.

Speaker 2 (01:11):
Yeah, I would agree with that.

Speaker 1 (01:14):
I like Small World because at least that there's like
more than four words.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yeah you know, yeah, like you know the words to
Small World, But this the lazy hazy Crazy You just
know the chorus and it's like over and over and
over and over.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Like even the part when she's at Luke's and the
door opens and closes, it like it's just like blaring
at the door opens and then it closes. I know
you said you liked this episode. I didn't dislike this episode.
I just had thoughts. That's kind of it was. I
enjoyed it.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
Yeah, I just I really like this one. I've said
before I always like the town episodes. I just think
they're fun, and this one in particular was just very
extravagant and just visually stimulating. There was a lot going on.
Paris was amazing in this episode. She was hilarious.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
And I love the scenes with Rory and Paris this episode. Yeah, yeah,
they were great.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
She was so good. And then you know, we had
Lug and Laurela I made a little progress at the end,
and we had that the funny dream at the beginning,
and I just loved it. The only thing that always
kind of makes me is the scene with Richard and
Emily and how mean they are to Laurela. I like
this is somehow anything to do with her, Like it

(02:37):
has it has nothing to do with her.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
But can we start with that, because I actually do
have some thoughts.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Let's do that.

Speaker 1 (02:43):
So I there was one part of me, a sliver
of me that a little bit agreed with Richard and
the only part was when he was like, did you
think anything was going to change? Like basically when he
was that was the only part where I was like,
well he was realistic for like a second where he

(03:03):
was like did you think that like he was going
to get back with Laurel I, which is basically what
he said.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Yeah, and I do. I do agree with that, Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
But I don't think it's I don't agree with him
saying like he always does the right thing. Clearly we
see that he does not. And also like when he
says like, oh he's a father, well he wasn't a
father to Rory. They're like these things that I don't
agree with. So I like, I was watching that scene
and I was like, well, like I the only thing
I agree with is that he wasn't going to get

(03:34):
back with Laurel.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah, and I Richard did have a point, like Christopher
would have been with Laurel I if you know, when
they were sixteen, if that's if she hadn't said no.
But Emily was just so harsh and acting like the
entire thing was somehow Laurel Eye's fault when it had
nothing to do with her, and she was literally blaming

(03:59):
Emily was that, and she she does it in the
next episode too. Emily acts like she herself was the
victim of something and that you know, Laurla is somehow
to blame for Emily's emotional turmoil and that I didn't
think was right. And you know, Laurla, I was upset
like her. This was, you know, an emotional trauma for her.

(04:20):
She thought they were going to get back together and
then he left her. He was sad and upset, and
her own mother is screaming at her instead of being sympathetic.
And so when people say, oh, Emily loves Laurela, she
just wants the best for her, I'm like, I watched
this episode and no, I don't agree with it.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
I don't think she wants the best for her in
this episode. I think she has her moments, yeah, but
not this. And also back to the first scene with
Emily when she's like, we told you were coming home.
People call the second you get home. When I get
home from a trip, I don't want to talk to anyone.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Right, And how was Laurelay supposed to know when they
got home.

Speaker 1 (04:56):
Yeah, Like she didn't say, oh, three o'clock, we're going
to get home. So I want to call it three
to zero one. Right at that part, I was just like, oh,
Emily's just here to Emily's here to be Emily this episode.

Speaker 2 (05:07):
Yeah, yeah, agreed, agreed.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Yeah. I had this little moment of like, Richard has
a point that he wasn't going to get back together,
but then he was wrong about everything else, and Emily,
like you explained it perfectly. She was just yeah, not fair.
No clown pillow. I have to mention.

Speaker 2 (05:23):
Clown pillow was there. I saw it at the end.

Speaker 1 (05:26):
I felt like that shot was specifically directed to get
the clown pillow because the way the camera rotated at
the end to the land where the clown pillow was
in the center. I was like, was it directed around the.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
Clown pillowal for sure?

Speaker 1 (05:46):
Yeah? Yeah. Where else should we jump to?

Speaker 2 (05:51):
How about Rory and Jess? Oh?

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Yes, well, the whole conversation with Rory and Paris was
her describing her relationship with her and Jess. Yes.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
I was like, I know, Suzanne's gonna catch this.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Oh toy, And the way she kind of like she
realized it too, like the way she trailed off at
the end. She was like, oh, wait a minute, I'm
not talking about Dean here.

Speaker 1 (06:14):
Yeah, Dean doesn't like the same books. They can't have conversations. Yeah,
and you can't be like I want to feel like Rory,
you can't be mad at Jess making out with some
girl against a tree, right when you know the type.
And also you left for the summer.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Right exactly exactly.

Speaker 1 (06:32):
Think he's just gonna sit around and wait for you.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
Yeah, and they're they're gonna have that confrontation in the
next episode that I'm looking forward to in the market.
But I think Lorlai was right to call Rory out
on that. Oh yeah, He's like, you can't have them both, Like,
if you want Jess, go for Jess, but let go
of Dean. Like Rory really didn't have any right to

(06:56):
be pissed at what Jess was doing.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Yeah, and also found it weird that like she didn't
want to see Dean right away, like she basically was like, oh,
like I don't need to see him the first day.
And also she wore that dress to the carnival. Yeah,
and like if you look around, everyone was fairly casual.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
And the way that in her room the scene before,
she's looking at the dress like ooh, I'm going to
wear this. Clearly, she's trying to impress Jess and she's
like looking for Oh. And then did you notice when
at the carnival it is a carnival, right, yeah, yeah,
at the carnival, she's like kind of looking around. And
then I think I wish I had the exact line.

(07:41):
I didn't write it down, but Loura says, what are
you looking for? And then she's like, I'm not looking
for anyone or something like that. Like it was like, oh,
you made that very obvious.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah. And also when she was still in Washington, d C.
With Paris and she's talking to Dean on the phone,
did you notice that he said I love you? And yes,
like oh gotta go, Like she didn't even say it back.

Speaker 1 (08:08):
Yes, And you know, it made me think of like
obviously the episode where he says I love you when
they break up, you know, And I was like, because
when you said I was like, oh, that was very natural.
And then she didn't say it, and I was like.

Speaker 2 (08:18):
She didn't respond to it, she just dismissed it. Yeah,
we see where this is going.

Speaker 1 (08:25):
I just I actually this scene or this episode, I
felt bad for Dean because he's like so excited to
see her after summer his girlfriend. He's like, you can
tell he's just trying to be supportive. Yeah, my jump
still not team Dean, but he's just trying to be
supportive in this moment. And she is just like, first
of all, when you see your boyfriend, you're she's like, oh,

(08:46):
I thought you're not coming back until tomorrow. It's like, okay,
Like let's show a little bit of enthusiasm here. And
then when they hug, she's just watching Jess make out
with this girl. Which how long were they making out?

Speaker 2 (08:58):
I think that's all they did afternoon was just lean
on that tree.

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Get up there, get out there for air at some point.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
And then the letters too, like she when she's in
the hotel room and she had that or dorm whatever
it was, and she had this giant stack of letters
from Dean. And then but then she's writing a letter
to Jess like it's just.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
Which Also that part is that way is that when
Paris left for her date.

Speaker 2 (09:33):
No, it was after she got off the phone when
Laura l I was telling her about the dream. She
hangs up the phone and then goes and sits at
the desk because she had just the little desk light
on because Paris was still asleep.

Speaker 1 (09:45):
Because when Paris leaves for the date and she's back
in her corner with like a flashlight or something, I
was like, all right, no one else is there, what
do you need?

Speaker 2 (09:53):
Yeah, and why did she have the flashlight? Where'd she
get that from?

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Well, that's what threw me off, because I was like,
isn't it just the two of them in this dorm
and par love What do you think the flashlight in
the corner for?

Speaker 2 (10:02):
Yeah, I noticed that when she went in the closet,
I like, she picked up her notebook and goes in
the closet like she's planning to be in there for
a while.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Also, Alexis looks really pretty in this episode, and her
hair is longer.

Speaker 2 (10:15):
Oh, I didn't notice that.

Speaker 1 (10:16):
I maybe it was just me, or maybe it was
the way that they did her hair, but specifically the episode,
I'm sorry, specifically the scene at the end where they're
talking on the couch, her hair just looks really pretty,
and I was like, she looks really pretty here. So
I don't know if, like, I don't know, her hair
got longer and maybe they styled it a little more
like straight.

Speaker 2 (10:34):
Yeah, because this would this was the first episode after hiatus,
so a couple months. Yeah, it probably grew out or she's.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Also this complete side note. I really like that Hello
Katie clock in the beginning. Yes, like I wish I
had it as a kid.

Speaker 2 (10:51):
Yeah, that was cute. And Lauren's her little nightgown was
cute too.

Speaker 1 (10:55):
It was Yeah, the bed the bed sheets are very old.
But then I remember it's two thousand and two.

Speaker 2 (11:02):
Yeah, I didn't. I don't remember noticing the bed sheets.
I did notice that. I thought it was weird that
she was sleeping with her door open and the light on.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Yeah, the door open I was okay with because whatever,
she's by herself. But the light on, I was like, yeah.

Speaker 2 (11:18):
I guess it just works for the scene because he
had to light it somehow. True.

Speaker 1 (11:23):
We're getting real technical here.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
I know. I also noticed that Dean when he was
on the phone with Rory and he's like, he's a
Chicago guy. He's sitting in Chicago and he's talking to
his girlfriend in Connecticut. But the game on the TV,
the football game was a UCLA game.

Speaker 1 (11:40):
Oh was it really?

Speaker 2 (11:41):
I don't know. Maybe maybe Dean was a UCLA fan.
I just thought it was funny.

Speaker 1 (11:45):
I had nothing else to watch in that moment.

Speaker 2 (11:46):
Yeah, probably not.

Speaker 1 (11:50):
Do you have any other call outs?

Speaker 2 (11:52):
Not specifically, just during the UH It was fun to
watch the carnival scenes and watch all the extra uhs
that were walking around in the background because you could
see them, Like there were a couple of people that
you could see just in this in different positions in
the same scene at the same time. So that was funny.

(12:13):
And then I noticed one of the I guess one
of the activities they had was there was a long
line of people that were looking through a telescope. Did
you notice that it was on the sidewalk. It was
a big line of people and they were all taking turns,
like walking up and looking into a telescope. I'm like it,

(12:34):
but it's damly, what are they looking at? And they're
literally like lean and walk away, like they literally were
all one second like they it's not even like they
were there long enough to focus. It was just really funny.
Like the first one in line was I can't think
of his name right now, the guy that has the bookstore.
But then after that it.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Was just extra random huh.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
And so they were just in line to like look
through the telescope and then they had those those painted
things with the cutout for your face and.

Speaker 1 (13:03):
You, yeah, put your face saw that.

Speaker 2 (13:05):
There was one couple that the guy it was like
the painting was a woman with you know, big boobs
or whatever. And there was a guy that was putting
his face through there and his his whoever he was with.
This woman that he was with was literally standing like
five inches away from him to take the picture, like
so like you wouldn't have seen the whole thing. She

(13:27):
like her, I don't know, she was like literally just
inches away from it. It was.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
There was so much happening in those scenes where I
like didn't know where to look, but I loved it
because I was like, that must have been such a
fun day on the lot because it was so busy.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
I'm sure. Yeah, that probably took all day to get
all those different angles and every I wonder if.

Speaker 1 (13:45):
They I wonder if they shot most of those scenes
in one day or one to two days to just
leave that whole set there.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Yeah, that would have been that would have been a
long day. Yeah, And they did shoot some of it
at night because in Luke's Diner, it was at night
so yeah, I wonder if that was just a separate day,
but yeah, there was just a lot going on in
those carnival seats.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
There was a lot, like I think I got distracted
and then I was like, focus on Rory, focus on her,
on what she's saying. I did have something that we
had talked about. I had texted our group text the
other day because I saw this article US Weekly. Do
you know where I'm going with We're going sidebar real quick. Yeah,

(14:27):
So there was a Weekly exclusive and Jared Padleki said, quote,
so when there's the scene with Rory and Dean sleeping,
we were bleep effing sleeping. It's the best acting I've
ever done because I wasn't acting. I was asleep. And
this is in reference to the episode where they fall asleep. Yeah, yeah,

(14:51):
season one. I just thought that was so funny and
I had to like, I was like, we need to
bring it up because God, with all the and it
was at night, and I'm sure they have to like
wait for the cameras and the lighting and all that.
I'd probably fall asleep on set too.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah, I mean, why not. There's so much downtime you
always hear, so Yeah, I love that little tidbit. It
was crazy to picture that happening. I did want to
just give a little shout out to Kirk and hay there.
Oh my god, that was just classic Kirk. I loved that.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Which whether does Laura I say like don't they eat grass?

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Yes, don't kewsy grass?

Speaker 1 (15:30):
And then when he and then the payoff when he's like, hey,
don't use any of the products I gave you because
of what is it and what he say it was
like it has a bad reaction with like light air
and like anything like yeah, like she has like explosives
in her hand right now.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yeah, that was good.

Speaker 1 (15:50):
That was like the perfect But by the way, that's
why I like Kirk so much, because it's like you
don't need those little moments, yet they just have this
like a little bit of like relief in these episodes,
like because if you think about it, the episode has
conflict with Rory and Dean and I guess Jess, and

(16:11):
then you have Emily and Richard and Lorelai and then
Laura I and uh Luke and like those little moments
are what make Gilmore Girls Gilmore Girls. Yes, And even
the point where Lourlai literally says man, this sounds really
weird or something like that, and I was like, oh,
I love that reference.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Yeah that was so awesome because.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
On any other day it's very normal to her apparently.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Yeah. Yeah, I just I loved this episode. I thought
it was a strong episode overall, a good way to
start the season. Like it kind of it was kind
of happy and upbeat. I mean except for the you know,
the rich and Emily part, but it just kind of
like gets you excited.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
For Yeah, it sets up another good season season one
and two that we finished top notch. Yeah, Like, it's
very rare that the show. Your earlier seasons are like
probably the best of the best. I mean, don't get
me wrong, I think everything except the final season is

(17:09):
my favorite. But these are good, they're they're Yeah, there
are some classics I think on the whole.

Speaker 2 (17:16):
I like the Chiltern years more than the Yale years.
I agree on two and three are my favorite. Four
is good because then we that's when we get the
good Luke and Lorelei stuff. But yeah, but yeah, I
like I like the from Rory's perspective. I like Chilton
Rory more than Yale Rory for sure.

Speaker 1 (17:33):
Yeah, I agree with you. All right, Well, next week
we'll be talking about season three, episode two, Haunted.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Leg another good one. Looking forward to that. We'll see
you then meeting adjourned.
