Speaker 1 (00:00):
I Am all in again. Oh it's you.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
I Am All in Town meeting with Suzanne French and
Tara suit An iHeartRadio podcast. Hey guys, welcome back to
another episode of I'm All in Town Meeting with myself
Tarzan Hello, Hello. Today we're talking about season two, episode sixteen,
There's the Rub, which aired on April ninth, two thousand
and two, the Good Old SPA episode.

Speaker 3 (00:42):
This is a stressful episode for me.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
I okay, I gotta give Laurai credit. She lasted longer
than I would have snapped at Emily.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
Yeah, there was I go both ways on it. Laura
I was somewhat badly behaved. But Emily, Emily, Emily, I
that's a new one. Emily like tricked her into going. Basically,
she thought she was going to have this strip by herself,
and then at the last minute Emily's like, well I'm

(01:13):
coming too, yep, and and Emily just she just was
pushing too hard, I think, and then her freak out
at the restaurant was completely uncalled for.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Yeah, I have some thoughts. Should we just start with that?
And so it was like kind of like the big moment.
I guess, well, no, Lrory has her own big moment, but.

Speaker 3 (01:34):
Yeah, there were some parallel tracks here.

Speaker 2 (01:37):
So I watched episode last night, and when I was
done with it, I was like, I feel one of
two ways. And I don't know what. I'd love for
the audience to kind of chime in in our comment section.
But if you're having a fun little like dance with someone,
oh like fun whatever. Like the first dance was very upbeat,

(01:57):
it seemed friendly. The second one did get uncomfortable, and
I actually I don't blame Emily for feeling like this
is wrong, because I think I would have felt the
same way, especially because he was like in her face
and all that.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
Yeah, but.

Speaker 2 (02:14):
Was Loralai in the wrong for encouraging it?

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Is my question exactly. I completely agree with that. I
think the first dance was upbeat and it was fun
and it you know, she was clearly having a good time.
She was smiling and laughing. The second song was a
slow dance and so and he was like his cheek
was like right up against hers.

Speaker 2 (02:37):
I thought he was whispering in her ear like I
thought I thought too doing it was just an odd
yeah that I.

Speaker 3 (02:44):
Host the same thought I when they but when they
rotated around it didn't look like he was saying anything,
so I think he just was really close to her.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
I don't blameing her hair or her ear. It was weird.

Speaker 3 (02:56):
It was weird, and I don't blame her for being
complete uncomfortable with that. But to then turn around and
somehow try to blame that on Laura I was weird.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
So that's where that's where the question comes into play.
Because Emily, sorry, not Emily Lorela. I was like, oh,
you should like look at the guy who's checking you out,
so like she kind of was encouraging it. Do I
think she should have blamed Lorlai completely? No, because she's
a grown woman, right. So it's like this back and forth,
Like I was kind of arguing with myself. I'm like,

(03:28):
should I feel this way? Should I not feel this way? Like?
Am my team Emily team Lorelai in this situation. It
was so back and forth. I don't think she should
have overreacted the way she did. However, I don't think
lore I should have pushed it. But also Emily could
have just like stepped away so quickly and be like, hey,
I'm so sorry, I'm married. She never once said she's married.

Speaker 3 (03:51):
Right, right, that's true, and she she did have a
wedding ring on, but that doesn't necessarily mean literally.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
It's so funny because I were a ton of rings
and it was I wear this on like my ring finger,
but I wear so many rings. I don't even have
that many. And someone was like, I was like, really,
you think I'm wearing a happy face ring? People can't
see it. I was like, do you think this would
be a wedding ring? Like you know what I mean? Like,
so sometimes people just wear things because it's jewelry, like
it's art. But for a woman like of that age,

(04:21):
I think she would wear her wedding ring to represent
her marriage right right exactly.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
And Laurela I was encouraging her to, you know, be
friendly and have fun. But Laurelay certainly wasn't forcing her
to do something she was uncomfortable. Is she could have
stepped up and said, I, you know, I'm not comfortable
with that. Your father's not here. You know, I just
don't think about any of it. Was Laurelized fault.

Speaker 1 (04:46):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
The one argument I do have to say on laurel
Ized side that I kind of have to defend her
is she was watching when they were having the upbeat dance,
but she actually was eating when they were doing the
slow dance, so she wasn't like watching it. You can
argue that she just wasn't looking at that moment of
the camera, you know.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
But.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Shed that's why I think that's why she's like, what happened?
Like something like she'd like she didn't know what happened
because it was so sudden.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
Right right. And but even if she had been watching,
it's not like she would have done anything. It's not
like she's gonna step between him and be like, oh,
you guys are too close, you know what I mean?

Speaker 2 (05:19):
Like, also, the man didn't like he may move thinking
like she's interested, but he didn't do anything, come mind
you being besides being really close to her ear, he
didn't really do anything else.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Yeah, yeah, I think he just got flirty. You know,
it's it's a sixty forty bar, Like. I think he
just was doing what you do in a place like that.

Speaker 2 (05:42):
Which is that a thing or was that I don't know, Okay,
it is.

Speaker 3 (05:47):
In my mind now just for watching the.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Show, but I was like, I don't know if that's
like a thing like like a sixty forty or is
that just Gilmore or Lingo.

Speaker 3 (05:56):
I don't go to bars, so I don't know, maybe
or maybe somebody in the audience could tell.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Us there's a forty sixty bar thing.

Speaker 3 (06:05):
Yeah, because Emily called it a singles bar, which I
think is a familiar concept to everybody, and Laurel I
was the one that's like, no, it's a sixty four.
Like I don't know if she just made that up.

Speaker 2 (06:14):
I just think of like the bar in la that
I go to with my friends, and I feel like
we see people on dates. I've been there with my
girlfriend just like grab a drink before, Like we see
all kinds of people, Like there's also food at the
place we go, Like how theirs was like we can
sit at the bar and eat, and I'm just like, well,
like it just seems like a place to grab a drink.

(06:35):
It didn't seem anything.

Speaker 3 (06:36):
Yeah crazy, you know, yeah, I mean different bars definitely
have different persons. Oh yeah, yeah yeah, but yeah, I
don't know if a sixty to forty bar is really
a thing. Yeah, but I had shout out to Hal Lindon,
so people from my generation that remember him from a
million years ago as Barney Miller. My parents never missed

(06:57):
an episode, so I watched a lot of in the seventies.
I actually have his autograph. So he came into the
place where my mom works back in like probably nineteen
eighty early eighties, eighty one eighty two, somewhere around there,
and she got his autograph for me.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
So I feel like autographs are so special now because
no one asks for them.

Speaker 3 (07:19):
Yeah, it's true, it's true. I have to Actually, I
don't even know what happened to it. I have to
ask my mom.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
He kind of reminded me of Taylor Dosie. I don't
know why, No, like just the vibe.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
I didn't pick that up, but that's funny.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
It was also late and I was watching this. I
think my brain was just like huh.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
Yeah, okay, So let's talk about Rory's now.

Speaker 2 (07:42):
Oh well, okay, did you see the clown pillow? Yes? Okay, yeah,
the clown pillow. For people tuning in, it is when
she well, there's two scenes actually, one when she was
in her pajamas folding laundry and she stands up to
go get the door for Paris, it's clearly behind her,
and then later on when talking to Paris, it's still

(08:03):
I think it's when Paris was packing to leave and
she invited Paris to stay the night. It's still in
the chair, but the chair is now turned sideways, so
it was just okay.

Speaker 3 (08:12):
I also saw it when she went to the door
to let Jess in, she walks past it.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
Oh, maybe that's what I'm thinking.

Speaker 3 (08:21):
Also when she was on the phone with Dean, when
Dean coming over, she was walking in the living room
and you could see it then. So the clown pillar, yes,
was all over the place.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
First, I have to say, as an only child, when
the house is empty, I am team Rory. I want
to sit in silence, I want to watch my shows.
I order the takeout that no one else wants in
the house. Yes, I go to bed early, like literally,
I was like I am Rory in this scene.

Speaker 3 (08:51):
Oh yeah, I totally could relate and like, you have
this precious little time, you want it to be how
you want it to be. And that's the end of the.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
On a Friday night, that means like, well for her,
no homework with me, I'm like work, I don't have
work tomorrow. I can like relax. I don't do laundry
though during that time. Yeah, but I have like cleaned
the house where I'm like, oh, like I'm gonna like
tidy up and get things done and blast my music
and you know, like things like that. So I think Dean.

(09:22):
It bugged me that Dean didn't like understand to support that.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Yeah, he well he was I he wanted to get
down to business that night because he's like, you know,
not home, and you know I thought I'd come over.
I'm like, hmm, okay.

Speaker 2 (09:37):
Funny enough. I didn't remember that part of it, Like
I remember like Jess comes over. I forgot that. He's like, oh, well,
your mom's out of town. I was like, whoa. I
forgot that that was a He totally.

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Had something on his mind. And then I didn't like
how he guilt tripped Rory because she won't on a
night alone. It's like, you know, she doesn't have to
spend every se it's Rory.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
You know that she listened. Even with the jest stuff
that I were about to get into, she still was
polite and like, mind you she did Lie. I can't
completely defend the girl, but she's not gonna go make
out with Jess right right well, speaking of that situation,

(10:26):
so first of all, I kind of love that Rory
and Paris are officially considered French.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
Yes, I did like that. Yeah, yeah, it was sweet.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
I feel I mean, Paris is Paris is Paris, Like
mind you. She is one of the most crazy characters
in a TV show I have ever witnessed, and yet
she doesn't bother me, Like I will watch her on
my TV screen every time she pops up. There's something
so annoyingly loving about her. Yeah that I love it.

Speaker 3 (11:00):
I love Paris. She just flattens people, and I would
hate to be like one of her victims. But at
the same time, it's so much fun to watch, and
I just she just sees what she wants and she
just goes for it.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
I love that she. Well, okay, let's get to the
Jess of it all, because I was gonna say I
love that she like called her nanny. She's like, there's
mac and cheese or Spanish, but Jess coming over. I
mean right away, I was like, Luke didn't do this, Yeah, yeah,
because I don't think Luke knew, Like why would Luke
know that Lorala? I was going, yeah, I don't think

(11:37):
Luke knew.

Speaker 3 (11:39):
And and now but now I'm wondering, how did Jess.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Know, unless it was said at the time. I can't remember,
unless like it was just said or you know sometimes
like I'm sure Laura, I was like, hey, like I'm
gonna be at a challenge in case where he's home, right,
like you know, telling like the neighbors. But I don't
know Jess Jess snoops.

Speaker 3 (11:57):
So he well that's true, did he. I'm trying to
remember now the beginning of the episode, and they're all
starting to blur together. I can't remember. They may have
had a conversation about it, you know, you know how
they kind of set the stage at the beginning of
the episode. Maybe they were sitting in the diner and
they had a conversation about it. I'm trying to remember now. Oh,
with the it was the umbrella RLLA.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
Yeah, so Jess was snooping, That's what it was.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
It could be.

Speaker 2 (12:24):
That was actually funny with the drywall number.

Speaker 3 (12:26):
Yeah, that was a good opening. I thought that was
pretty funny.

Speaker 2 (12:29):
Jess was he went for it. He did. He was
not holding back. He was definitely trying to get He
was trying to crack her, you know, like get out
of her like you like me, I know you I think.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
I wonder how it would have gone if he had
shown up and Paris hadn't been there, Like what if
it really was the two of them, Like how would
that have played out? And I think because Paris was
there and he made that crack about how she invited
a chaperone, and I think after that point then he

(13:05):
was just playing games with her. Yeah, especially like when
he found out that Dean was on his way over
and then he's refusing to leave, and he's like he's
intentionally waiting so that he intended to have that confrontation
with Dean, like he wanted Dean to see him there.
I thought that was kind of jerky, So oh yeah,

(13:27):
that's why I'm wondering, like if Paris hadn't been there
and his attitude hadn't changed at that point, like what
would that How would the evening have gone? Like would
she have been able to kick him out or what?

Speaker 2 (13:37):
I don't know. I don't know, but I was going
to say. The thing I was thinking about is Jess.
It was kind of nice to see Jess actually trying
to have a conversation with Paris because I don't know
if Dean would have done that, And like, think about
it like when they went to the school dance, like
Dean didn't care to talk to anyone at.

Speaker 3 (13:57):
The school, right, that's a good point.

Speaker 2 (14:00):
And Jess actually tried like yeah, and you know he's
he's reads a lot of books and clearly sodas Paris,
so it was like they could have a conversation. The
thing that bothered me about this episode is Rory just lying, like,
just say it how it was. I was home alone,
Paris came knocking on my door. Jess came knocking on

(14:23):
my door. I didn't feel comfortable being alone with him,
so he wouldn't leave. I asked him to say he
brought food. Also, where did the type food never showed up?

Speaker 3 (14:31):
Okay I have a comment about that. Okay, finish your
thought because there's more about that later.

Speaker 2 (14:35):
Sorry, I just remember the typeoo oh my rant. Yeah, yeah,
she just could have been honest. And then the whole
Paris thing. I was like, I mean, yeah, like you
threw a Paris under the bus, and well, actually no,
Paris stood up for Rory and kind of did that,
but it's like you're just it's a snowball of lies
at this time.

Speaker 3 (14:54):
Yeah. Well, and I think part of that So, first
of all, I have to say I totally agree on
Paris and Jess, Like I loved seeing the two of
them together and I wish we had more of that
in other episodes. But the lying thing, I feel like
she even said it to Jess. She's like, I'm trying
to avoid a fight with Dean, And I think that
was really she She was just trying to take the

(15:17):
path that she thought was gonna keep Dean calm. She
was afraid of him, like she didn't want him to
be screaming at her, and she even, you know, asks
him to stop yelling.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Which, by the way, so uncomfortable in front of your friend.

Speaker 3 (15:32):
Oh my god, I know Dean, Dean and Jess, we're
both complete jerks in this.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
It makes me wonder though, like she's afraid of but
like what is she afraid of? Like because at the
end of the day, it's just him screaming, right, Like,
I'm not trying to get like more serious. I don't
want to say, like, you know what, what if you're
afraid of your significant other, your boyfriend, girlfriend, that's a problem.

Speaker 3 (15:59):
Yeah. I think just in general, at a high level,
she just avoids conflict. She doesn't like having conflict with anybody,
and I think that that's her way of heading it off,
is like, I'm just gonna try to make this seem
like it's not so bad and then he won't be
pissed and yell at me. I don't know that she
had necessarily necessarily like a physitier.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Yah.

Speaker 3 (16:22):
I think it's just she just avoids confrontation and doesn't
like being screamed at. Which who does fair?

Speaker 2 (16:27):
Who does? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (16:29):
Exactly? And I think just in general, she just is
always she's a people pleaser, and she's trying to keep
people happy and keep the peace. And I think that's
that's where that came from. She just was trying to think, Okay,
how do I make this not look as bad as
it really was to Dean?

Speaker 2 (16:46):
Well, and it just I mean to defend Dean a tad.
I used the word defend very loosely. It would be
really I would be really bummed if my boyfriend was like, hey,
I want to hang out alone. I show up to
do something kind of bring food, and there's two people there,
and I would be very sad.

Speaker 3 (17:03):
Yeah, I get that. I totally agree.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
Defend Dean in that sense, to be sad and a
little angry, yeah, considering who was there. But yeah, thank
god Paris stage, you know what I mean, yes, like, yeah,
it would have been worse. But Jess likes to push buttons,
so he doesn't help either. It's like it's back and forth,
right right, But okay, what happened with the Thai food?

Speaker 3 (17:37):
Okay, so the Indian food? It was Indian Indian. Sorry,
there is a deleted scene for this episode, so I
would suggest everybody like google it. It's on YouTube. There
is a deleted scene where it's after Jess and Dean
have left and they're laying there, like Paris is laying

(17:59):
on the couch and Rory's laying on the floor and
they're watching TV and they have the Indian food. So
Peray gives Paris a samosa or something like that. So
the food did show up. They just cut that.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Scene so, which, by the way, Indian food, as good
as it is, does smell terrible. And the ongoing joke
with everyone's like a You're gonna burn the house down
or like whatever they said, it was kind of funny.

Speaker 3 (18:23):
Yeah. Yeah, I wish I.

Speaker 2 (18:25):
Wonder why I was deleted because it's a.

Speaker 3 (18:28):
Great scene actually, So that's why I recommend if you
haven't seen it, everybody should go watch it because in
it they talk about Paris is hitting hard on just
likes you, and she's trying to figure out does Rory
like Jess back, And you can tell Rory's thinking about it,

(18:49):
and she's, you know, maybe admitting it to herself that
maybe there's some feelings there. So I think they It
is a little long, and it does kind of drag
a little bit, like and so I can see maybe
why they cut it out because it is a little
like it's kind of plotting, but it's a great scene,
like plot wise, like it kind of moves the story

(19:10):
a lot. Everybody should go watch. That scene is pretty.

Speaker 2 (19:12):
So it's like the first time that someone like actually
said it to her face, like hey, like just right exactly.

Speaker 3 (19:18):
And if they had left that scene in, I wonder
how things would have gone differently as we move forward
and we get towards like the dance Marathon and things
like that.

Speaker 2 (19:27):
How far away are we from the dance Marathon.

Speaker 3 (19:29):
I think we're really close. It's I want to say,
it's like eighteen or nineteen, so a couple episodes away.
So yeah, it would have been interesting to see how
those episodes turned out if Rory was already admitting to
herself that she had feelings for Jazz.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
How do you know about the deleted scenes like this.

Speaker 3 (19:49):
One in particular, I don't. I don't remember how I
first found out about it, but they pretty much all
come from the DVDs, so they were as like DVD
extras as each season came out, and then over time
people have just uploaded them to YouTube. So if you
google Gilmore Girls deleted scenes, there's a bunch. Especially I

(20:10):
think season one and season two have the most.

Speaker 2 (20:13):
Got it now I want to go, I've never seen any.

Speaker 3 (20:16):
Yeah, there's there's some good ones out there. Some some
you can see why they cut it out, like it
just was not that good or it didn't really provide anything.
But this one was a particularly good one because that that, yeah,
Paris is like just likes you. She's like, no, he doesn't.

Speaker 2 (20:34):
All right, Well, I'm gonna have to go, I'm gonna
have to watch it.

Speaker 3 (20:36):
Okay, Oh, dance Marathon is season three, episode seven.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
I didn't realize, that's what I thought, because when we
were done, when I was done watching last night, I
clicked through and I was like oh, what else is
left in this season? Like I was just scrolling and
I didn't think I saw it, but yeah, I guess, yamn,
this this goes on for until season three.

Speaker 3 (20:55):
Yeah, I guess there is a lot that still has
to happen. But yeah, so I had my timeline mixed up.
But I mean season We're on season episode sixteen. We're
already getting close to the end of season two already.
So yeah, and then I just I had three other
call outs. I just went first. I had to love

(21:17):
lorealized t shirt. As she's getting ready to go to
the spa, she's wearing a T shirt that says yoga Kills.
I made me laugh. And then so fun fact when
they're getting their massages laureled mensur was I didn't write
his name down. It was Gary something that was Lauren's assistant,

(21:40):
and we've talked about him before. He was in He's
in another episode of the show later on. He's the
guy that asks for the steel cut oats in the diner,
and then he's also in the revival. He works at
the Whaling Museum with Emily. So that was just a
fun fact that was Lawrence's in that scene.

Speaker 2 (22:01):
I know Scott's mentioned yeah, yeah, yeah.

Speaker 3 (22:05):
And then also the other thing the when they were
at the bar the lounge act that was really oh
La institution. It was Marty in Elaine and they played
at a bar in La called the Dresden Room for
years and years and years and years, and Marty actually
died like two or three years ago.

Speaker 2 (22:25):
So I was actually wondering if they were anyone of
like that you would recognize.

Speaker 3 (22:32):
So yeah, they're they're like local La legends, probably more
for people that are older than us, but they are
definitely an institution in La.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
Nice. I had to throw that in there because they
had like a couple of prominent moments of just like
playing you know, like yeah, and.

Speaker 3 (22:51):
They were they were very specific, like they didn't seem
like actors.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
Yeah. Yeah, that's the thing is like it wasn't like
just in the background, like grab a guitar and pretend
play you know anything else. EID to be honest, I
like the episode. It was it kept me on my toes.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
Yeah, there's some good action. I don't like either Dean
or Jess's behavior, but it's I mean it's good. There's
a lot of action in this episode, and it love
that Paris and Rory, you know, kind of developed that
understanding and.

Speaker 2 (23:22):
They're actually friends.

Speaker 3 (23:23):
Actually, Paris like really helped Rory out in this episode,
which was nice.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
You gotta give Paris as the MVP of this episode.
She she really stepped up, and you know, I think,
like this is where this tell me if I'm wrong.
But this seemed like a pivotal moment in their friendship
because now, like Paris has never had someone to just
be like, yeah, like doors open, come stay. And also
I thought it was very sweet when Rory asked her

(23:48):
to stay the night and yeah, you know, she didn't happen,
but I will say the next morning when they were
at Luke's and she likes, she's like, I gotta go
hang out with Dean all day. It's like she doesn't
have the house herself anymore, right exactly.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
And she's kind of she knows that she's got to
