Speaker 1 (00:00):
I Am all In all Let's Stars Hollow Style with
Eastern Allen, an iHeart radio podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
Hey everybody, it's Easton Allen. It is Stars Hollow Style.
We are so happy you're here. We're having so much
fun doing this. If you're just joining us, this is
what we're doing.

Speaker 1 (00:31):
Okay. We are going through.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Gilmar Girls episode by episode and we are focusing on
the fashion. Yes, we're talking about some of our favorite outfits,
some of the wackiest clothing choices we see on the show,
the best, the worst, everything in between. And we are
having so much fun doing it. So thanks for hanging
out with us. You know, if you wrote letters and

(00:55):
we're protesting about our no stars Hollow Style last week,
we heard you. We heard you loud and clear, and
we are back this week. We are just having so
much fun. And on I Am all In on this
beautiful podcast feed where this show lives, we are doing
a rewatch where we have done a rewatch with the podcast.

(01:18):
Scott Patterson watched every episody Go More Girls. He went
back to the beginning and is watching it again. And
now this is a third rewatch that we're doing within
the feed. But it's you know, six episodes behind or
something and thank you for hanging with us. So here's
what we're focusing on this week. This is season one,

(01:39):
episode six, Rory's Birthday Parties. We are celebrating Rory's birthday
and all the outfits therein. The costume designer for this
episode is Caroline B. Marx, just like the last one,
just like episode five. She did the first ten episodes,
so which I think are really crucial moments, especially in

(02:01):
how what you really think of when you think of
what the Gilmore Girls.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Are in terms of fashion and like what they're wearing.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
So a very influential figure in the world of Gilmore
Girls fashion, Caroline B.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Marx.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
So again, if this is the first time you're hanging
out with us, here's what we're gonna do. I'm just
kinda I'm going to go through the episode and just
point out some of the outfits that I liked, that
stood out to me that I thought were interesting, and
we're going to go through and discuss those and then
at the end we're going to decide what our favorite

(02:37):
one was. And you know, what I'm hosting is by myself,
so it's all up to me. Okay, just me if
you are on Instagram at I Am all In podcast,
leave us a comment about what your favorite outfits were. Okay,
just because I'm the one with the microphone, I'm the
one everyone's listening to, doesn't mean your voice can't be
heard too. I want to hear what you guys think

(03:00):
I've in. Okay, it's a it's a we open with
Friday night dinner and Emily is wearing this really I think,
very nice green, like light green jacket.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
With these really cool buttons.

Speaker 2 (03:11):
I just wanted to point out that I mostly when
I see Emily, I really like what she's wearing. I
love her outfits so much, and especially in these first
Friday night dinner scenes, she is usually the one that
has the fits that I'm attracted to.

Speaker 1 (03:27):
Uh So, just a nice jacket from Emily.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
There, Rory's wearing this like burnt orange sweater with these
really it's it's got these like stripes, these vertical or
these horizontal stripes, and these groovy little flowers on it,
like almost like an Austin Powers thing.

Speaker 1 (03:44):
Very cool, very far out.

Speaker 2 (03:46):
Uh and uh, anyway, there's more, there's more to come here.

Speaker 1 (03:52):
Lorelei and Emily go to the mall to pick out
Rory's birthday gift.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
And uh, they're both wearing they're they're they're wearing different outfits,
but they're similar and interesting ways.

Speaker 1 (04:05):
My lovely wife Alison and I were watching this episode.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
She pointed this out, and this is a very interesting
observation that she made. So they're both wearing blue, but
different shades of blue. Okay, while they're walking through the mall,
Emily's wearing this like dark navy coat, looks like it's
supposed to like evoc a Chanel idea, it's like an

(04:28):
old money thing. Laura I's wearing this cobalt blue duster
cardigan over a burgundy mock neck shirt. And they they
again both wearing blue, just different shades. And Laura lies
like cobalt blue cardigan is much more casual, a much

(04:51):
like more contemporary outfit versus Emily's old money, very formal coat.
There they also they both have these like dark bags.
Emily's black Loreles is like a dark brown, but Emily's

(05:11):
has it's again a more a vintage looking bag with
the top handle, but whereas Larela is wearing this bag
with the longer strap and it's slung over her shoulder. Uh.
They both both bags have gold hardware, and I think
just from looking at how they're styled, you can really
tell a lot about where they are as characters.

Speaker 1 (05:35):
And even down to the jewelry.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
I mean, Emily has this gold watch and gold tennis
bracelet again, you know, kind of old money, very formal,
and Lorelei is wearing this big, chunky faux wood bracelet.
It's like a very thick bracelet. There very intentional choices here.

(06:00):
And we just read an article in the New York
Times it said the big chunky wood jewelry is coming back.
So Laura Lai, you're very on trend right now with
that bracelet. Let's head down to Luke's diner. We love
looking at these Luke looks. We love exploring how his
look progresses as the show goes on.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
He's wearing like a.

Speaker 2 (06:25):
Gray flannel shirt layered over a dark gray thermal really
great look here. Also, you know, this might be the
first time we hear Luke proposed to Lauraai. He says, sarcastically,
will you marry me? Very fun little look at what's
to come? But I mean great, great, Like we love

(06:46):
the Luke uniform. We love it and it looks great here.
These colors really work with him.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
They really bring out his eyes. So now we're gonna
jump to the birth. So you've seen this episode. You've
seen season one, episode six.

Speaker 2 (07:04):
Emily and Richard want to throw Rory a birthday party,
and it's they're gonna do it on Friday and then
on Saturday, Rory or Lorelei is throwing a second birthday
party for Rory in Stars Hollow for older friends there.
So we're at Emily's birthday party and uh, Lorelei is

(07:28):
wearing this blue dress that I have so much to
say about.

Speaker 1 (07:33):
But before we get.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Into that, I wanted I want to do something really
special for you guys. Okay, I have this really really
fun drum set and I just want to show you
guys this little like kind of riff that I can play.
Sometimes when I play this drum role, the commercials will
sorry to come out of the drum set, but I

(07:55):
don't know what will happen here, but just take a listen,
let's do this.

Speaker 1 (08:07):
Oh my god.

Speaker 2 (08:08):
Okay, well, thank you thanks for sticking around while I
tried out my new drum set and listen to some
fine commercials.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
And it starts hollow style. My name is Easton Allen.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
This is the I Am all In podcast feed. Thanks
for joining us, Thanks for hanging out.

Speaker 1 (08:21):
Alrighty where were we? Oh? My goodness.

Speaker 2 (08:24):
So it's Rory's birthday party at Emily and Richard's house
and lorala I is wearing this blue dress with this
like velvet kind of chest. And I really disliked this dress.
That's made me very uncomfortable. I really didn't like it.

(08:45):
But another interesting fashion choice that kind of matches the
narrative of this episode. Emily bought formal dresses for both
Laura and Rory to wear, but they offer this more
kind of casual look and therefore they don't fit in
at the party. Everyone else is dressed very formally. Everyone's
wearing suits and fancy dresses, and.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Lorelei and Rory are not.

Speaker 2 (09:09):
And something else that I thought it was interesting was,
you know, they Emily invited old Rory's classmates from Chilton
to this party, which Rory did not appreciate. But we
see Paris at the party and she also is wearing
something that is not really congruous with what everyone else
is wearing. It's not really a fairy fancy dress. It's

(09:29):
just like kind of striped, more casual dress.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
And it kind of reminded me of the dress.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
Do you remember that it was like the is it
white and gold? No, it's black and blue. It kind
of rounded me of that one. And you know, under certain.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
Lights, I'm sure that dress would look like it's a
different color. Anyway. And now we're at the college fair
at Chilton.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
Rory wearing this really cute argyle sweater, Paris wearing an
argyle'll skirt with like cargo pockets, which I thought was
interesting and uh and also wearing this pretty cool like
suede jacket.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
I thought that was an interesting look.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
The the cargo pockets on on Paris's skirt really caught
my eye. But but a cool look nonetheless. Uh So,
and now we're this is the the big one here.
This is the outfit that really jumped out at me. Uh.
Where Rory's stars Hollow birthday party, and Lorlei is wearing

(10:35):
this really really interesting shirt. It's it's a long sleeve
like graphic shirt. It's got this like European city scene
printed on it and a leopard print collar. And she's
wearing dark jeans too. Uh. It's a really, I had
never seen a shirt like this before I hunted it down.

(10:58):
It's by a brand called Custo Custo Barcelona. I hope
I'm saying that right. I'm sorry if there's some Custo
Barcelona fans out there, but that is who made the shirt.
And it's again, it's just like kind of a cool,
like sixties looking city scene and people have found it

(11:21):
found the shirt many times over the years. So if
you I was not able to find it currently for sale,
But if you really like this look, if you like
if you like lorealized leopard print, leopard collar, European city
seeing shirt, it can be yours if you if you're
persistent enough. I just keep searching on eBay and on

(11:45):
deep pop. It's it's Custo Barcelona, and I'm sorry, I
don't have the name of the style, but it's very
cool stuff. And Lane wears a Custo Barcelona shirt at
a at a certain point in.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
The show too.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
But people all over TikTok and Instagram have found this
very shirt before, and it can happen again. I believe
in you it can happen again again. That's Custo Barcelona.
I also want to point out that Rory gets an
Eyebook for her birthday.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
It's very, very fun.

Speaker 2 (12:16):
This aired in two thousand, but she gets an Eyebook
laptop that one of those fluorescent, those cool like clear
Apple laptops that they used to make. It was just
fun to see those again. I really like those computers.

Speaker 1 (12:34):
Anyway.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
That is season one, episode six, Rory's birthday Parties. Let's
pick our favorite outfit from this episode.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
I think.

Speaker 2 (12:49):
I really think I got a hand to Lorelei's stars
Hollow birthday party fit, the Custo Barcelona shirt. I thought
that was such an interesting look. Laurla has got so
many cool, like graphic teas, and.

Speaker 1 (13:08):
She's got so many.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Clothes in this show that have that have a statement
or some kind of interesting drawing or artwork on them,
and I find it very fascinating, really fun to look at.
People online do not like this outfit on Laura, I
strongly disagree.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
I really love it. I think it's great.

Speaker 2 (13:26):
I think my least favorite in this episode is what
she wears to Emily's party, the like velvet kind of
dress thing.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
I don't know. I didn't like that.

Speaker 2 (13:37):
It's got this, it's got this weirdly kind of opening
halfway through. I didn't like this dress at all. I'm
not a velvet guy. I don't I don't like velvet,
but I know it was. It was big in the
late nineties, was popping up everywhere. Now, no, I shall
leave velvet alone. I did not like that one very much.
But if there's an outfit that you liked, that you

(13:57):
thought was so exciting about Season one, episode six, Rory's
birthday parties, let us know on Instagram. It's at I
Am all In Podcast and we will do this again
next time. So if you are following along, if you

This has been so much fun. You guys.
