Speaker 1 (00:00):
I Am all in let's Stars Hollow Style with Eastern Allen,
an iHeartRadio podcast. Hey, everybody, this is Easton Allen. It

(00:24):
is Stars Hollow Style. That's right. We are exploring the
fashion of Gilmore Girls. Our favorite outfits, our favorite styles
are our favorite looks. So many great costumes and so
many great fits in this show, and we are going
to talk about them all. I'm having to blast you
in this. You guys, if you are following along at home,
come on this journey with me. Here's something so fun

(00:47):
and crazy. This is a podcast where we rewatch Gilmore Girls.
We've done it once. We're on the second round. Is
that all? No? No, no, friends, I want you to
go back to the beginning again. And we're on a
second rewatch within another rewatch. It's so great. Here's what
we're doing on this this week. We are going to
be talking about the fashion of season one, episode five,

(01:11):
Cinnamon's Wake. There's some great fits in this. But before
we get started with season one, episode five, I have
to address something, a glaring error, and I apologize from
the bottom of my heart. I received a comment on
our Instagram that is at I am all in podcasts
and if you're not following us. What is wrong with you?

(01:34):
Do it right now? I'm gonna sit here and watch
you do it. But a user named Lady Jane three
she left a comment on one of our posts saying
that we missed a pretty chic outfit from season one,
episode three. Kill me now, kill me now? Do you
remember that episode? There's a wedding going on at the end,

(01:55):
and Loralai is involved with this. But at the end
of the episode, at the actual reception, she is wearing
this very chic dress. And I am so embarrassed that
I did not talk about this in the episode. I
want to give this dress its flowers. I want to
highlight it really quick. Here. It's this, do you remember it.
It's like a purple dress. It's got this like kind

(02:17):
of it's it's kind of low cut. It's got this
plunging neck, but it comes with this like matching choker.
Uh that that hangs it's it's kind of oversized. It's
long and it hangs down. It's almost like a it's
almost like a scarf. But uh, it's it's a really
cool dress. This is really cool. It's so chic. I

(02:37):
did a lot of research on this dress, and some
people online think that this dress came with a belt
and Loralai is using it as a like a as
a scarf or or or a necklace or something, and
that was If that's the case, that is that is
work of the costume designer, and that is a very

(02:58):
very cool idea. People have been scouring the internet for
years looking for this exact dress. It's very popular. Again,
I'm sorry I missed this. I don't know. I don't
know why this one didn't jump out at me on
the first go around on when we when we highlighted
this episode. I apologize. Listen, I'm a dude. Okay, I'm
a guys are dumb. I miss a lot of stuff.

(03:19):
I'm sorry. We're not detail oriented creatures, the male people.
So I'm sorry I missed this dress. I'm looking at
it again. It's so chic, it's so cute. I love it.
Her hair is up in this really cool bun. I'm
sorry you, guys. I'm from the bottom of my heart.
I hope you'll forgive me. This won't happen again. I
promise you, this won't happen again. If you want to
get this dress, there's there's a lot of Uh, there's

(03:42):
a lot of dupes on on the internet, not the
exact thing. They get close though. There's a there's a
website called w concept dot com. Uh. They have an
item called a V collar scarf knit and it's like
a it's a sweater. It's not dress. It's a sweater
and it has a built in kind of scarf situation.

(04:03):
It's not a stock at sixty bucks. I'm sorry. This
is a This is a tough one. So if you
find it out there, snatch it up, or just get
a purple dress and a purple belt and make your
own a little scarf thing. It's very cool. Anyway, that's
just a glaring air I wanted to address. Thank you
Lady Jane three for pointing that out. And hey, I'm

(04:24):
not above getting criticism. If there's something you guys like
or don't like, let me know, go to our Instagram
at I am on in podcast. Make your voice heard.
I'm listening, Okay, I'm just sitting here. I'm up in
the middle of the night, just refreshing Instagram looking for
this stuff. But let's get into this now. We've got
a whole new episode on our hands here, people. This
is season one, episode five, Cinnamon's Wake. Cinnamon's Wake, Okay,

(04:48):
something that we're going to start looking at here as
we do this stars Hollow style adventure, we need to
talk about the people that bring these outfits to life,
the costume designers. These are hard working men and women
that see these images in their head. They bring these
outfits to the screen and it's such an incredible job.

(05:11):
They're doing great work here. This episode costume designer is
Caroline B. Marx. She worked on in Living Color, and
she worked on a number of episodes of Gilmour Girls,
and then she went on to work on Your Honor,
It's This Judge Show with Brian Cranston. She did costumes
for Thirteen Reasons Why and Yellowjackets. Quite a career and

(05:34):
we'll be hearing more from Caroline be Marx. Very impressed
with her work. But let's go through this episode and
I'll list off the outfits that jumped out at me
and hopefully there's not something, it's not another emission that
will get me in trouble here. But I'm gonna list
off the things that I liked about this episode. I
just watched it again. We're gonna start with Friday Night dinner.

(05:59):
Something that they do Gilmore Girls that I like, and
there's other shows that do this too, but like they
repeat certain things, there's certain outfits, there, certain accessories that
come back around a lot. And I like it because
it feels real. It feels like the character like this
is an item that they wear a lot because they're
a person in a small town and they don't get

(06:21):
dressed with a new outfit every single day. I like
it add some consistency. Even so, it's a Friday night dinner.
We're at Emily and Richard's house and Emily's wearing this
starfish brooch. I love the starfish broch. I talked about
it a couple episodes ago. I think it's so cute.
And you know, Emily is a very wealthy woman, She's
very stylisht she could probably wear a different brooch every

(06:42):
day of the month, but this starfish brooch is clearly
very important to her, and I like it. I think
it's really cool. I just wanted to point that out.
So it's the day of the Chiltern bake sale and
Loreli is wearing this really cool leather jackets. This is
another you know, I was just talking about, like there's
certain pieces these characters wear frequently and it gives them

(07:05):
a sense of consistency and it makes the world feel real.
This leather jacket's one of them. I know this is
going to come back, but she's run this really cool
a kind of like low profile leather jacket, and layered
under that leather jacket is an off white sweater with
scenes from Paris on it. They got the Eiffel Tower,

(07:26):
the Arcata Triumpha. We get a better look at this
sweater later at the inn, she takes the leather jacket
off and we get to see the cool details there.
She probably wore that sweater that day because there's a
large group of French guests coming in and she wants
them to feel at home, you know. But we're rewinding
just a little bit back at their back at the

(07:47):
Gilmore House before they go to before they go to
work in school. Lane is over there and she's like
dancing in Rory's room to time Bomb by Ransay, a
great song. She's wearing a really cool graphic tee of
the artist Poe. If you don't know Poe, Poe is
like a electronica jazz this fusion artist had some hits

(08:13):
on the rock charts, a song called Angry Johnny probably
her biggest hit. But Lane's wearing a Poe shirt and
from the looks of it, it's from Poe's debut album
Hello around that era. The shirt has that a similar
vibe to to stuff Poe is putting out at the time.

(08:33):
It's like it's like an orb with the word Poe
in it. There's a star in the middle and then
there's like flames in the background. Very cool shirt that
Lane is wearing. And as we know, Lane has a
very cool taste, very cool taste in music, cool taste
in fashion. I like to as we're getting to know
the characters here in the first season, what they wear

(08:53):
is I think is very important. And this shows that
Lane cares a lot about music, and she's she's wearing
a po T shirt, She's dancing a rancid Lane's cool.
Lane's very cool, and we know that right away. This
episode is obviously every episode of Gilmour Girls has great

(09:14):
outfits and great styles and great fashions, but this one
I wasn't really like jumping for joy here. There's some
good outfits, but they spend a lot of time they
don't change clothes a lot. A lot of this takes
place over the course of a day, so you don't
get that many outfits in it, but there's still some

(09:37):
really cool stuff. Now, we got to go to Luke's
Diner and Suki is hanging out with Laura Lei, and
Suki's wearing this really, really interesting and cool piece of outerwear.
And we are going to talk about that in a second.
But first I would really like you to meet my friends.
I've got some friends here and they are going to

(09:59):
tell you some really cool stuff that you gotta listen to.
Please enjoy this. First. Some drums and we're back. I
hope everyone was nice to you, guys. Thanks for sticking around.
My name is Easton Allen. This is Stars Hollow Style

(10:20):
on the I Am all In podcast and iHeart Radio production.
Uh God, where was I? Where was I? Everybody? Yes,
we're Luke's Diner. Suki and Lorelei are hanging out at
Luke's or eating cheeseburgers. Suki's wearing this sweater jacket robe thing.

(10:41):
It's so many items mixed into one. It looks so comfortable.
I want one. Okay, stay with me, let's try it.
I'm going to try to describe this, I I can't.
I don't know how to describe it perfectly, but visualize
with me. It's like a it's a sweater. It has
dross rings and it's attached at the It's not a

(11:04):
button up, it doesn't have a zipper. It's like it's
a pullover. But then it splits right at the chest
and then like comes down almost like a like a
like a robe or or a cape. And then she's
got it's got a hood, but it's not like a
typical like a hoodie on a sweater. It's like it
does look like a cape on her shoulders. It's kind

(11:24):
of it's it's wide, like it's got right angles. And uh,
I mean, I think I would classify it as a
classify it as a hood, but it's it's really a
unique item. And it looks super comfy. It's almost like
terry cloth. It looks so soft and so comfortable. Suki
wears this for pretty much the rest of the episode.

(11:45):
She wears it to the wake uh spoiler alert. On
on this third rewatch of the show, she wears it
to Cinnamon's wake as she's helping set up all the
food and everything but it's a really cool uh like
combo over outerwear thing, sweater robe cape thing. It's awesome.

(12:05):
I love it. It looks so comfortable. I really like it.
And of course we always have to talk about what
Luke's wearing because it's it doesn't deviate much. He has
a uniform, but there's this slight differences here. This week
he's wearing a light green flannel, got his backwards hat.
He's sick in a form. It looks great. The green
is really nice on him, I think. So as we

(12:29):
move through this episode here, you know Cinnamon has passed on.
She has Cinnamon has shuffled off this mortal coil, and
Babette is understandably upset. So when Laura and Rory hear
the news, they go to Babette's to try and console her.
And this is this is a great outfit here that
Laurai is wearing. She's she's got this like coat over

(12:52):
a burgundy turtleneck sweater and a gray skirt. This is
a this is a great fall Laurai Gilmour outfit. I
know people online come back to this one a lot.
It's a really really great outfit. I did find I
did a lot of research here to try to find you, guys,
this burgundy turtleneck sweater. It's great. I found a lot

(13:12):
of similar ones, but nothing that like. I wasn't really
happy with that. There's too many big differences, like it
had like big old cable nits, or it didn't have
the turtleneck or were short sleeve. The closest thing I
was able to find is from Los Angeles Apparel. And
I don't know, you know, if you guys are I'm

(13:33):
going to be thirty eight years old here in a
few few weeks. And when I was in high school,
American apparel was such a big thing. We all wore
American apparel. It was like the coolest thing in the world.
American Apparel went away. It came back as Los Angeles Apparel,
which I believe is a similar concept. They make it
here in la and I found a turtleneck. It's not

(13:57):
a sweater, it's more it's it's cotton span. The name
of this product is cotton spandex garment dye turtleneck. They
have it in Burgundy. It looks very similar to what
Laurali is wearing in this episode. It will run you
a thirty eight bucks it's in stock right now. If
you want to duplicate this look, that's what you do.
Go to Los Angeles apparel dot net and you know,

(14:20):
if you had a pen and paper here, I'll give
you the code, the item code eight three to oh
six GD A three six GD cotton spandex garment die turtleneck.
Get it in burgundy thirty eight bucks. You can look
just like Laura, like Gilmour, Isn't that cool? And then
Rory in this scene, she's layering a jean jacket over

(14:42):
a dark green striped sweater and cargo pants. Very utilitarian,
but a great look. Again, we're we're in fall here
in North America. These are great fall outfits. I really
love it. And they're in these outfits for the rest
of the episode. Like I said that, there's not a
lot of variation here, but we got some great stuff.

(15:04):
Let's go through and and the what's our favorite outfit?
What's the best one here? It's got to be Lorealized,
which she's wearing in the later episode. What she wears
to the way what we just talked about. The burgundy
turtleneck with the gray skirt and the coat. I love it.
It's great. The Paris sweater is really fun, but you
know it doesn't It didn't get me like jumping for joy.

(15:26):
I really think the burgundy turtleneck is the star of
this episode, and that we can think Caroline b Marks
for that great costume design work on this Gilmore Girls adventure.
So this has been so much fun, you guys. Again.
Our instagram is at I Am all In Podcast. Go ahead,

I'm so descriptive. I really paint a picture, but you
got to see it with your own eye. Go to
our instagram, you can do that. And next week we
are going to be exploring season one, episode six, Rory's

(16:08):
birthday parties. What are they wearing in that episode? You're
gonna have to wait to find out until then. You
look great, everybody. Don't you forget that bag, everybody, and

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
