Speaker 1 (00:00):
I am all in hell. Let's just you Stars Hollow
Style with Eastern Allen, an iHeartRadio podcast. Hi friends, Hello,

(00:23):
this is Easton Allen. Thanks for joining me. This is
Star's Hollow Style. That's what we're doing here. Okay, you
love Gilmore Girls. I love Gilmore Girls. I love fashion.
You love fashion. There's a lot of great fashion and
Gilmore Girls. What a beautiful combination. You got peanut butter
in my jelly. You got jelly and my peanut butter. Right,
here's what we're doing here. Okay, we are going back

(00:44):
to the beginning of Gilmore Girls. We're in season one.
We are going to go through each episode, episode by episode.
We're going to rewatch every episode. We're going to talk
about it and break down every scene. I'm just kidding.
I'm just kidding. Sky has that handled. Here's what I do. Okay,
this is where I come in. I'm going to look
at the outfits of Gilmour Girls, the fashions, the clothes,
the accessories, the costumes. I'm gonna look at it all.

(01:07):
If someone's wearing it, I'm talking about it. If there's
acting or a story development, I'm not going to explore
it whatsoever. We're only talking about the clothes. Okay, this
is what podcasting is all about. We're getting into these
things on a very specific, hyper focused level, and I'm
having a great time this week. Here's what we're talking about. Okay,

(01:28):
get your Netflix cued up, watch along with me. It's
season one, episode eleven, Paris is Burning, a very intense episode.
I know I said we weren't going to talk about
the story. I'm still not going to, but I have
to mention that this is a this is an intense episode,
but there's some great outfits in here. I can't ignore that. Okay,

(01:48):
we cannot ignore the fits here. Here's something about this
episode though, that just stood out to me as a whole.
It's a very it's a Laurla heavy episode, and that
goes for the clothes as well. I was struggling to
find anything interesting that Rory was wearing, that Souki was wearing,

(02:10):
even Emily. I love Emily's fits, but she very nothing
out of the ordinary. To me. This was just a
lore I hit after hit after hit for good and bad,
for good and bad, So this is gonna be I mean,
I look at my notes here. I think it's all
larel I outfits, which is fine. She is the star

(02:31):
of the show. So here's what we're gonna do. We're
gonna go through the episode and I'm just gonna list
off the outfits that jumped out at me, and we're
gonna talk about them a little bit, and then we're
gonna go through and talk about our favorites at the
very end. Does that sound good? All right? Make sure
you got some water handy. It's gonna be a long
one people. Let's get started here. This episode costume designer

(02:53):
Caroline B. Marx. We've been talking about her for the
She's a very big part of this season. We open
up the episode, this is an all star Loralei moment.
This is this is what we have come to expect
from Laura Gilmour. There at a dog adoption event and
she is wearing that classic Shirpa jacket, like an iconic

(03:14):
Lorali look, but underneath a like an orange tied ie
rhine stone shirt with the number thirty three on it.
It's like a rhinestone thirty three or glitter thirty three.
It's sparkly. She loves sparkles. She is a she is
distracted by by sparkly, shiny things, and that applies in

(03:35):
her clothes as well. This is a Rude twenty one shirt.
I was not able to find it on eBay or
on deepop or anything, but it's made by Rude twenty one.
It's it's orange tied. I again, we don't get to
see too much of it. It stays under the jacket,
but I do want to point out it's number thirty three.
It looks the thirty three looks collegiate like. It looks

(03:56):
like a jersey to me. It's got that like jersey
kind of number. And I would really like to highlight
here that thirty three is the number of Tim Riggans
from Friday Night Lights, which hops on the air a
few short years later. Just a connection there doesn't mean anything,
or maybe it does, who knows. We also see Luke

(04:18):
in this scene. He's got his new blue hat, the
hat he got it last episode. He's wearing it now
and he will continue to wear it. He's got this
very cool olive green puffy vest. Luke wants to keep
his core warm and he does that with that vest.
He's worn it before. We love it. It looks good, great
Luke outfit here. He also pairs it with a kind
of like a light green flannel, just looking so good.

(04:43):
I know that his wardrobe is going to change at
some point, but I'm enjoying this while we have it.
He looks so good. Let's skip ahead to Friday night dinner.
I spend a lot of time on this one. I
really did. I poured over this. Lorelai is wearing this
like cool blue sweater with these like I don't know

(05:05):
how to describe it. It's not polka dots, but it
almost is. It's like these it's spots. It's like assorted
circles that are kind of layered on top of each other,
but it's not over the whole thing. It's just kind
of on the like shoulders and the upper arms. It
looks very cool. They're like and so the sweater's blue.
The circles, the spots what everyone want to call them,
they're kind of beige. There's a dark brown in there.

(05:27):
It's got just kind of neat, you know, muted pastel colors.
It looks really cool. I spent a lot of time
trying to find this. I was not successful. I'm very
very sorry. The website a sauce asos. They have some
stuff that looks similar. If you just search like blue

(05:48):
polka dot or blue circle sweater, you can find some
stuff that looks similar, but it's not the thing. It's
not the exact one. And if I find this because
I liked it a lot, I will update this for you,
I promise. Okay, and the rest of Friday Night Dinner,
I mean again, Emily's wearing like a you know, a
jacket with a sweater and a necklace. It's like a

(06:10):
beige color. It looks fine. I've come to expect more
from Emily, so I'm just kind of disappointed by that.
Now we're going to skip ahead to Laura's getting ready
for her date with Max Medina, and we don't get
to see too much of this because the scene is
focused on Rory and her frustration in having to cover

(06:33):
for her mom while she's still getting ready. She's late,
she's got to rent interference with her teacher. What an
awkward position that's got to be. But so Laura is
getting ready still, and she's wearing like this very loralized skirt.
It's long, like it's it's kind of a it's like
a light peach color, I would say, and it's long.

(06:53):
In Scott Sequins and Ryan Stones. This like floral print
on it, very very larel I. I liked this skirt
a lot. I really enjoyed it. I wish we got
to see more of it because we don't get to
really see them on their date. We see Laura putting
it on, and then it cuts to the next scene,
so we don't can see in it too much. Okay,
this next scene is after Laura goes ice skating, and man,

(07:17):
this episode, she's got some wild looks. This one is.
You do not know what you're going to get when
this scene opens. When they come back from commercial break
on Going More Girls, you do not know what Laura
is gonna wear. And that is exactly what's going to
happen here. When we come back from commercial break. You
don't know what I'm gonna be wearing. People. Hey, on
one second, here's drums. Oh we're back. It's I am

(07:47):
all In podcasts on iHeartRadio. Just in case you close
your eyes downloaded a random episode. This is Stars Hollow Style.
My name is Easton Allen. It is not Scott Patterson,
and for that, I'm sorry. I'm deeply sorry. We're exploring
the fashion of Gilmore Girls and we're diving back into
season one, episode eleven, Paris Is Burning. I was talking
about Laurel. I went ice skating and after she's done,

(08:11):
she's recovering in her kitchen. She's like soaking her feet
in what I assume her EPs and salts, and she's
wearing her hair and pigtails. She's got a black, long
sleeve turtleneck sweater with these like fuzzy white cuffs on it,
and it looks like she's straight out of Whoville. It's
very festive, but also just the pigtails and that it's

(08:33):
a very wacky look. It's just funny to see someone
dressed like this while they're like recovering from, you know,
an injury. It's it's it's funny because she must have
just come from ice skating if she's in this outfit.
This is a very ice skating outfit, and you'd expect
her to be wearing something a little more low key
while she's like nursing her sore feet. And speaking of this,

(08:57):
next scene, Laura's cleaning out her refrigerator. This is something
I have come to love from this show. I know
I've ragged on it before, but it was out of love.
I am truly so entertained by what Loralai wears when
she is doing chores at home. I am delighted whenever
I see Loralai working on something or like cleaning something out,
I just cannot wait to see what she's wearing. She's

(09:19):
cleaning out her refrigerator in this scene, and we get
a classic Lorelai home chore outfit. She's got her Diesel
jeans on and she's got this camo longsleeve shirt. I
would describe this as almost an Arctic camo. You know,
there's different kinds of camouflage here, people. I am a
fashion expert after all, and I know quite a bit

(09:40):
about different kinds of camouflage. We got traditional green camo,
we got jungle camo, we got desert camo. Do not
get me started on digital camo. This is close to
what I would call arctic camo. It's got some dark
blues in it and some light grays, and it's got
it's like a mixture I would say traditional camouflage an

(10:01):
arctic It's mostly blue. It's really cool. I like it.
I think it's really neat, and I like that she
chose this to clean out her refrigerator, And I'm so curious, what, like,
we're going into the realm of the character. We're not
thinking about the costume designer here. It's just like, what
does the character of Laura like Gilmour if she were
a real person. What is the thought process here when

(10:24):
she decides like I'm going to was she wearing this
already and then she decided to clean out her refrigerator
or is this like I'm cleaning out the refrigerator, I
need to put on something crazy. Where's my camo? Where's
my camo? I'm wearing this? I'm just so curious what
motivates these outfit decisions. Then the rest of the episode

(10:46):
is not very notable fashion wise, if you ask me.
She wears her typical work outfit, which is like a
red shirt sweater under a leather jacket. She has this
very frustrating moment with Max Medina at Chilton. She's our
youing with Rory being a terrible mom if. In my opinion,
I know she's figuring it out, but my god, come on,
you gotta be you gotta be more mature here. You

(11:08):
gotta figure this out. Kind of just regular work outfits
for Loralai and not the fun ones. Later on, we
see her in this the like kind of almost powder
blue sweater layered underneath like a suit coat. She looks nice,
but I like the crazier stuff. I really do. So

(11:31):
we're gonna close it out here before we say goodbye, though.
Here is what we're gonna do. We're gonna go through
our favorite outfits and our least favorites. We'll start with
all the least favorites here. You know, I could talk
about the work outfits because they're just so boring to me,
but I think instead I'm gonna highlight that the opening outfit,

(11:53):
the the Sherbet jacket is so cool. But that orange
tied I Rhinestone thirty three, that does not It cannot
save that, It does not save her from that mortal sin.
She does not. I don't like that shirt. I don't
And it ruined the whole thing for me. It ruined
the whole episode. Almost turned it off after seeing that. No,

(12:14):
I'm just kidding, but it was. I did like start
the episode go oh god, Lorli, what are you wearing?
What is this? My favorite outfit of hers is that
it's a polka dot sweater. Things she wore a Friday
night dinner. I don't know why I loved it. It
was like so pleasant to look at. I thought it
looked great on her. I thought the colors complimented her
hair beautifully. It was like wacky, but not like caugh

(12:39):
you know, not like crazy, like if you if you
just wore it to some to work, no one would
be like, oh, what's this crazy thing? Like that wouldn't happen.
It's just a nice looking sweater. I really dug it.
I that was my favorite one. And I'm gonna continue
looking for this, okay, and I will update you guys
if I find it. Next time. We're talking about season one,

(13:02):
episode twelve. It's double date. And you know, I've been
having so much fun doing this with you guys. I'm
just I know, it's me just screaming at a wall.
I'm in a darkened room all alone, talking about this stuff.
But I appreciate you joining me every week here on
