Speaker 1 (00:00):
Wow, I am Paris.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Hey guys, it's Paris and I am back with another
episode of I Am Paris. We are here today with
my mom Kathy, and today we're going to be talking
about the present. So let's start off with being a
grandma to Phoenix. What do you like your grandkids to
call you?
Speaker 3 (00:28):
My name is Kiki.
Speaker 4 (00:31):
Kim and Kyle used to call me Kiki when I
was a little girl, so I thought that's perfect.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
And they call you that, and that's what all the
kids call me. I think that's cuter than grandma. Yeah,
you don't look like a grandma.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
Oh you're sweet.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
So I am your first child, and now that I
had my first baby, do you have any advice for
me as a new mom?
Speaker 4 (00:58):
Well, these children do not come with an annual, so
I would say to read, read read. I did not
know when I had you. The first three years are
like so important, Like there's so many things that I
think to socialize them. And I used to hear about, oh,
(01:21):
the kids are going to music school at two months,
that's ridiculous. Or they're going to a gym class. It's
those things I think are really important.
Speaker 2 (01:30):
Yeah, Phoenix is already doing music class two months.
Speaker 3 (01:33):
I think it's great.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
Yeah, Carter's he always is just like finding out all
the everything about.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
It's so cute.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
Yeah, there's a music class, which is really nice. I
think I'm gonna start hosting them here.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
That's fun.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
I'm inviting like Tessa and Brooke and the cousins.
Speaker 3 (01:57):
And so many New bay No.
Speaker 2 (02:02):
Rebels. Had her little daughter as well.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Oh that's right. How old is she.
Speaker 2 (02:09):
The daughter? I think like I'm maybe a few months
older than the Phoenix.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
Oh yeah, they'll have their own little play group. M h,
that's so nice.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
So cute. Here just face timing with Nikki and her
little baby boy. So cute, so sweet. Do you think
the Phoenix looks like me when I was a baby?
Speaker 3 (02:33):
Similar?
Speaker 4 (02:34):
I mean, when I first held him, I just was like,
this is the most perfect, beautiful. I just could not
believe it. I was just in awe. I would say
a little bit like you, and then an hour later
(02:54):
he'll look like Carter. An hour later he looks like
Dad or Barren. It's funny babies they change like on
a daily basis.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
What did you think of his name?
Speaker 4 (03:07):
I liked it. I liked it cool. I think it's
very strong I.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
Love his name so much, so cool so name and
his middle name, that's a beautiful name. I remember seeing
this photo of you wearing the graduation I was like,
where is she? And then I saw that you received
the honorary doctorate from the Academy of Art University in
(03:34):
San Francisco. How did that feel?
Speaker 4 (03:37):
It was a really exciting day, a very proud day,
and I felt proud and special and to be able
to share in that day with some of the most
talented people.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
In the arts. And it's a dale I'll never forget.
And I'm really proud.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
To wear the cap and gown again.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
That was like when I graduated, you know, the same
kind of feeling. Then I just wanted to be done
with school and get out of there. But this was
a really proud moment for me.
Speaker 2 (04:16):
I'm very proud of you till So what do you
like to do? What are your hobbies?
Speaker 3 (04:22):
My hobbies are I would say collecting.
Speaker 4 (04:29):
China, crystal, making flower arrangements, making beautiful tables, making things
for the holidays. As you know, I love making wreaths
for Christmas, in Easter and Mother's Day and doing beautiful tablescapes.
I like going to antique markets, flea markets, garage sdales,
(04:54):
estate sales.
Speaker 3 (04:57):
Dad and I like doing that.
Speaker 4 (04:58):
When we're in London, we go to all the sho shows,
art fairs, what else.
Speaker 3 (05:06):
You know.
Speaker 4 (05:07):
I'm a collector, so I get me with my I'll
get on something and all of a sudden, I'll be
collecting soldiers and I will be on eBay, Pinterest, you
name it, looking for every soldier that you can imagine.
Then I'll see a drum. I gotta get drums for
the soldiers. So I would say home things for the home,
(05:33):
collecting and making things beautiful.
Speaker 2 (05:37):
You should have your own homeware line.
Speaker 3 (05:39):
Yes, actually I'm giving dad finally.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
We made almlets the other night and vegetables and he
used your pot.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
And pants at my cookwear line and the.
Speaker 3 (05:49):
Cook He said, these are really good.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
So, speaking of cooking, where do you like to eat
out nowadays?
Speaker 4 (05:54):
In la I love you know, we're the same old
cheese cake factory, the grill, the Ivy, Fantana's craigs once
in a while.
Speaker 2 (06:10):
What was that restaurant that we went to the other
night after my Clarna event, A really beautiful restaurant with
the dining room.
Speaker 3 (06:17):
Oh, steak forty eight.
Speaker 4 (06:18):
Yeah, that's our new favorite favorite favorite Steak forty eight
in Beverly Hills.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
It's such a beautiful rest.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
Literally is.
Speaker 4 (06:25):
We're there sometimes three nights a week. Food is so
good and now Conrad loves it so well.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Everybody's there.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
It's so good. I love that you have like the
private areas. You can just like have your own right
like private tenor party.
Speaker 3 (06:40):
That was so much fun. We were there till two
in the morning.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
I left it like one because I had to be
up so early for my press conference.
Speaker 4 (06:46):
And it's so funny. Ashley Park she wanted to do
She wanted to stay and do tiktoks.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
I love her so cute. She's so cute.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
You heard her sing. No, she's got a great voice.
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Really, I should invite her to my concert.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
You should interview her.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Yeah, she's really cute. She has her new show out
too on Netflix called Beef. I know I wanted to
watch that. I just watched the trailer last night. Looks
really cute. What is your favorite thing to cook?
Speaker 4 (07:16):
I like cooking holiday food, like a really nice brunch,
you know, fatatas and cinnamon rolls with all the glaze
and putting a little caviar and sour cream, pancakes, waffles,
you know, I like all of that. I don't do
(07:39):
it often, but when I do, I do And I
would say Turkey, and then my Italian dinners are always
really good.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
And what is your favorite place to go with Dad
on date night?
Speaker 4 (07:49):
On a date night, I love the Tower Bar and
love we like Steak forty eight because we get that
booth where the side are like a wine cellar, but
yet you can see out into the restaurant and you
have your own music control. A lot of steak restaurants
they're so loud, and here you can turn the music
(08:12):
up or down so you can actually talk and you
can see people, but you're not You feel very intimate.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
I love that. So on the last episode we talked
about how you and Dad met and now you guys
have been married for forty three years. What is a
key to such a happy marriage?
Speaker 4 (08:39):
I would say really good communication. Never go to sleep
angry with each other, I was saying during a break
which you did not know, Dad and Grandma used to
be very well. Dad was very jealous of Grandma. I
(09:01):
don't know if you ever knew that, and they didn't
get along for like six seven years.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
The first two years we were married, oh wow.
Speaker 4 (09:09):
And I think she felt that I was her first
and I'm so young getting married. Are you really sure
that you you want to do this? Because Mom and
I are eighteen years apart. So it was like, all
of a sudden, you're leaving me, you know, And so
(09:34):
that was Those were some things that we would fight about.
And if I was on the phone with her, and
I don't get angry, I don't get mad, but he'd
walk in and here, I'm living in New York, I
don't really have any friends. I'm pregnant with you, And
of course I called my mom like three times a day.
(09:54):
So he'd walk in and say, who are you on
the film with? So I'd go like this, you know
exactly how I'm on the phone with. And if you
ask me that again, you know, I would be very
like angry like that, And then we'd kind of like
nit pick each other about things like that. And then
i'd say something about his mom, who I love and adore,
(10:16):
but his mom was very strict, like we would check
in with her. And Rick's a boy, and boys don't
check in. You'll find out they're the greatest but they
don't check in with their mom. I was raised to
always check in, Oh we're doing this this weekend, blah
blah blah blah blah. Her own daughters didn't do that.
Speaker 2 (10:35):
Carter talked to his mom like ten times a day.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Well, dad, would you know once a week? And so, yeah,
it was it was a little challenging. And then I
looked at him and I said, you know what, the
last thing we need to do is start getting in
a tit for tat, because if you get snappy with
me or mean about something, I'm going to come back hard.
Speaker 3 (11:01):
And I think that was really good advice.
Speaker 4 (11:04):
As far as the only thing that we ever really
would fight about is if I was late, because he's
so punctual, and he would get mad. We're in the
mall and all right, we're meeting thirty minutes at Macy's. Okay,
We're going to meet at Macy's at four o'clock. And
then I'd show up at four twenty and he'd be mad.
Speaker 3 (11:25):
Yeah, so that could be a little bit of a fight.
Speaker 4 (11:29):
I think keeping the right people around you, other couples
that are healthy, that have the same morals and values
that you have. I think that's super important. And don't
get too comfortable with yourself. These girls. I have friends
that would say, oh, I walk around I open you know,
(11:51):
I walk around nude all the time?
Speaker 2 (11:55):
What?
Speaker 1 (11:55):
Yes?
Speaker 3 (11:57):
And I said, really I would? I never did that?
Speaker 4 (12:01):
Leave something to the imagination. And I'm always a little
mystery and keeping the lines of communication open, and as
the number one thing is keeping the right influence and
then and the right people. You put yourself in a
(12:22):
bad situation, and you know with the wrong it's it's
not good.
Speaker 2 (12:30):
Yeah, I agree.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
I mean, how many nights do you think Dad and
I've been apart in our entire life? Feel I would
say probably twelve days. I'm going for three days with
Nikki for this charity event and he's like beside himself.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Really the one he'll miss me in Texas. That's cute.
Speaker 3 (12:55):
But see, you're more independent. What do you mean because
you've been in business and you've had to travel and
I never had to do that. I was a mom
why and a mother?
Speaker 2 (13:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (13:12):
So we really.
Speaker 4 (13:14):
Call it whatever you want, but knock on wood, it
works for us.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
So before we wrap up, we're going to do two
listener questions. First one, what has been your favorite anniversary
gift from Dad.
Speaker 4 (13:29):
An anniversary gift like I would get a baby present,
like when we had a baby, wish present.
Speaker 2 (13:39):
Was the best present, baron, Baron the baby was the
president or the.
Speaker 3 (13:47):
Baby was the present.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
But I got a very special diamond ring and it
was in Caviare in his grandfather's crystal whatever. And then
these crystal champagne glasses and we had a sip of champagne.
That was pretty special. I mean, we don't really buy
each other like crazy gifts.
Speaker 3 (14:10):
I don't know. I mean the cards he always send.
Speaker 4 (14:12):
He always writes me a very special card and then
a very like funny, funny funny, and he'll put little
cartoons with it in write little captions, and then of
course the the you know, very gooey lovey, you're the
best wife in the world, and blah blah blah. So
the cards and I have I save all the cards.
(14:33):
But as far as gifts, I don't think he's ever
for me gotten any of these. One pair of cufflings.
But I always buy him a sweater.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
Or pianna.
Speaker 3 (14:44):
Mm hmm. Well he did trick me.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
We were in London for our anniversary four years ago
and I was so excited. There was this navy blue
velvet box and a lot of people because it was
a special anniversary, had been sending gifts and knew we
were going to be in London, so I couldn't wait
to open this gift. And I opened it and it
(15:14):
was a silver shell, a shell, a big shell. So
I said, wait a minute, this is really for you.
As you know, Dad loves fish, aquariums, sea life, He
collects shells. It was a beautiful Buccilotti silver shell that
he got for you. Yes, a shell. So I was
(15:36):
just like, okay, well now it was sweet.
Speaker 2 (15:40):
I feel like I remember that shell. It was like,
all like very doesn't no, it's sterling silver. Oh.
Speaker 4 (15:48):
Actually, this is a funny one that turned into We
were at Grenwi and the restaurant mm hmmm, and I
think it was maybe our tenth wedding anniversary, and he
wrote me a note after dinner, we're going to go
(16:09):
back and we're going to have a little hunt at
the hotel and I'm going to give you clues to
go look for your gifts. So all right, go to
the top of this of the fire mantle. Go here,
go there, Go there, go there. But I got confused,
(16:30):
and I am not sat trying to sound greedy, but
I thought there was two gifts the way he made
it sound. So he let me continue to look for
the other gift. And the other gift was like just
a silly gift that had nothing in it. And I
was so embarrassed. I started crying why.
Speaker 3 (16:50):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (16:52):
Right there was these little pearl earrings, and then I'm thinking,
I don't know, but I was so humiliated.
Speaker 3 (17:01):
I go, how can you let me run around.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
For thirty minutes in front of people?
Speaker 3 (17:06):
No?
Speaker 4 (17:06):
No, oh, is that funny. I'm not telling this story
exactly perfect, but ask him, because it's pretty funny that.
Speaker 2 (17:17):
Another listener question, are you already spoiling Phoenix?
Speaker 4 (17:23):
You know, we need to get his room done, so
I don't think he's spoiled yet. I just want to
spoil him with loving him and holding him and trying
to spend time with him. And I'm lucky because it
seems like whenever I'm here, he's up. Today's the first
day I've heard him cry, so he's coming into his
(17:44):
own little personality for sure. He's exercising his lungs pretty
well today. I just want to spoil him with love
and be able to take him to dinner. You know,
I took you kids everywhere, high chairs, boost your seats.
(18:06):
You all went with us wherever we went. So I
find a lot of the parents dated. They don't do
that really.
Speaker 2 (18:13):
Mm hmmm. We just took Phoenix on his first trip
to Montana.
Speaker 3 (18:19):
And it's so sweet in it. A little snow outfit.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
Flies, He's a good flyer, didn't cry at all. So good. Well,
I can't wait for all the memories. We're going to
mate together at Phoenix and this was so much fun
and I can't wait for the next episode when we
talk about the future.
Speaker 3 (18:41):
Sounds good. Love you, love you.
