In Case You Missed It with Christina Williams is an
iHeart Women's Sports production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports
and Entertainment.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Many Friends.

Speaker 3 (00:14):
So we're back with another bonus episode of In Case
You Missed It with Christina Williams crossing over with the
Levels to this podcast with co hosts Tureka Foster Brasby,
and this conversation is going to be a little bit
different from what you're used to hearing from this show
because we have WWE superstar Nicky Garcia joining us and

(00:38):
t was so ecstatic to have her name on the
guest list for people that we were going to interview
at the Business of Women's Sports Summit last two weeks ago.
Now it's two weeks ago, and so we certainly had
a time with Nicky and I hope you enjoy this conversation.
It's a little bit different than what you're used to hearing,
but you could all appreciate it. For those of you

(01:01):
that don't know this about me, your girl was a
super huge WWE fan growing up. I used to live
for the smackdowns and raw and so for me to
talk to someone who is a superstar of the next
generation of women athletes. I love. That was like a
full circle moment for me because I grew up watching
the Rock Stone Cold all those great WWE superstars, So

(01:24):
it was really great to see and hear from someone
who is doing their thing for the new generation of
WWE superstars. And so, without further ado, here's our conversation.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
With Nicki Garcia.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Welcome, Welcome, Welcome.

Speaker 4 (01:39):
We are at the Business of Women's Sports Summit here
and New York Trika Foster Frasby, joined by my girl,
Christina Williams, and all day long we've had the opportunity
to talk to some incredible guests in speakers and panelists,
and that is going to continue because with us right now,
we have the very beautiful popular.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
As.

Speaker 4 (02:02):
I mean, I feel like I want to introduce you
by your name, Nicki Garcia, but I feel like so
many people also know you as Nicky Bella, so it's
like like Nicky's here, That's what we have right like that,
So first and foremost, thank you so much for making
some time for us today. I was literally just asking

(02:22):
before we started if you went to Vegas this weekend,
and You're like, I just got here please, Yeah, how
I feel like this is a question already know the
answer to. But how was Vegas?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
Oh my gosh, Vegas was wild, you know. In the
words of Duyanne Johnson The Rock, it was electrifying. Let
me tell you. You know, what I love, especially about
a place like Vegas is when we bring big events
there to whether it's the super Bowl or WrestleMania. We
WW Lady gets fans from all over the world for WrestleMania,

(02:55):
but this was particularly different because it's just easier, I
feel like, to get to you and then everyone wants
to go to Vegas. So every hotel was doing events.
And what I also loved is all the different wrestling
federations like Independence, They were all like doing really big shows,
and so it was like if you were a wrestling band,
you were in wrestling Heaven. You saw all different kinds

(03:18):
of wrestlers, all different kinds of shows, appearances. Fanatics was
crushing it with WW World. I worked around the clock,
you know, but I enjoy seeing my Bella Armies, so
it never feels like work. Yeah that flying straight from
here to New York. You know.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
She just talked about the evolution of just that one event,
but in general, I feel like wrestling has expanded so
much over the last few decades. As someone who's one
of the leading figures today in that sport, how have
you been able to build your business portfolio and build
your brand awdentity.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
You know, what I really love about our industry is
that they will give you the TV time, but it's
in your control to build your own branding character. And
that was something my sister and I realized very early on.
And so what's been so incredible. I've been with the
company seventeen years, which is a very long time, and
I really got to understand business in the way of, Okay,

(04:15):
I could be a successful entrepreneur even as my character
with true connection authenticity that the foundation of my business
has to have heart and passionate and be a part
of me, or I can't sell it or grow it
or people can't be attached to it. So when I
realized that with my character, my character is getting so big.
When I started to become an entrepreneur and grow these companies,

(04:37):
I realize I have to take that there or I'm
not even going to sell bottle of wine, or I'm
not going to sell a T shirt or whatever it
may be. I'm not going to get people to invest
if there's no authenticity to it.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
You talked about building your character, but when you're in
those boardrooms in those meetings, how do you get those
executives to see you as Nicky Garcia versus your character?

Speaker 2 (04:58):
So it's very hard because even being on this past
season of The Traders, people I got, I was out
halfway through because people want we're convinced I was the
villain Nikki Bella and I wasn't Nicki Garcia, so they
were convinced I was a trader just off of that.
And it's been the same in business, you know, not
only being a wrestler, but being a woman to get

(05:19):
people to take you serious, and it's like I have
a very strong voice, and I know what I want
and what I believe in, and I will I will
go after that. I have a lot of grit and
I have a lot of hustle, but it still is
hard to get the men in the room to sit
there and listen to you and believe in your vision
and know that your vision is like the correct way
to go. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:40):
I love that you make that comparison to because even
within the WWE space, the women's division within itself has
grown tremendously.

Speaker 2 (05:50):
Over the years.

Speaker 4 (05:51):
I mean it really, it really does bring goosebumps because
you know, I'm sure we all remember when most of
the time women were kind of objectified with it the
WWE space, and then with the addition of the Divas era,
and then now you know, seeing you come out at
Royal Rumbo, we were like what. But just again, the
evolution of women in sport has just really been flourishing.

(06:15):
When you think about in your particular sport, how would
you describe but what words would you use to describe
the way that women are really transforming the game from
an athletic perspective.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Yes, you know, it's I mean it's funny because my
slogan is fearless and I feel like a lot of
women nowadays truly bring that to the mat and the
way that they perform the athletic ability is through the roof.
I mean, they're bringing in these college athletes or athletes
that you know went to the Olympics, and you're seeing

(06:46):
the gymnasts thrive, like they're really transitioning into these pro
wrestlers in an amazing way. And I feel like the
women now are like, you know, it started in my
era where we really wanted to compete with the men
in that time, we wanted to engage shows fans, and
the women now are doing it. They get like, no,
it's not about a w male superstar, female superstar. We're

(07:09):
just w TOW superstars and that's how we're gonna construct
this match. That's the show we're gonna put on. And
they're bringing it, you know, they come in and it's
like there's no rules for them. They just break it
and do it and I love it. I love it.

Speaker 1 (07:22):
Well, I am a line girly and I know that
you have your line Brandanita Banita. So what inspired you
to get into that space?

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Well, so being on reality TV for ten years Total
Divas and Toto Bellas, bre and I naturally got known
as Whino's and so it was kind of a space
that we saw like Bri and I would have conversations
on the plane like we can't body slam forever. There's
gonna come a day where the body is gonna be
like no, and I don't want to sit there and

(07:52):
be like what do I do next? So when we
saw people were really connecting with us through wine, we
were like, Okay, we need to do this, And we
were talking to some of our friends Nappa and they
were like, you don't have to wait till you're sixty
to get a wine because I thought it was like
a retired thing. You retire and then you get a
winery or you do whatever. They're like, you can do
this now. So we've had our brand now for seven

(08:14):
years and it's been successful because people know it's true,
they know we care about wine. We're not gonna sell
you bad stuff. I can't sell bad stuff if I'm
not going to drink it, I can't sell it. And
they trust in us in that way. And we've that
company brin I have fully invested in ourselves. We don't
have any investors. We've grown it from the ground up.
It's been a slow growth, but an incredible one because

(08:37):
there's trust is our foundation, and people trust what we're
serving them and selling them, and it's been amazing. We
just got into Total Wine and more. We're having talks
with Walmarts, Costco, Sam's Club, I mean, Bonita Bonite. I
feel like almost took over WrestleMania Week more than us.
It was like everywhere, and because it was worldwide, fans

(08:57):
and so many fans haven't been able to try our
They were anyone who put Bonita Bonita in the restaurants.
They were crushing it because everyone's like, we finally get
a taste it. So it's just it's been incredible. And
again it goes back to when you find that thing
that people connect with, you make it a business, grow it,
especially for us female athletes who need to find that

(09:20):
boardroom past the locker room hills.

Speaker 4 (09:23):
I love that That's what jay Usa was drinking. That's
why he was acting like that bunny, and he has
lived outside of your venture with Spirits and wine. You

(09:47):
and your sister also have a new show. Yeah, and
that's exciting. Like I have a younger sister and I
can't imagine sharing a podcast or a show with her
at all because my sister.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Wow yeah, okay, I'm just like no.

Speaker 4 (10:00):
And so how I don't want to say important, but
just you know, how gratifying has it been that you
and your sister have really been able to build such
a career kind of together.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
Oh my gosh, it's been amazing. I mean, the Nikki
and Brie show is another thing we've had for seven years.
And when Sirius XM came and put an offer on
our show. Is like, oh my gosh, this is incredible,
Like this is real life, and it's what's amazing about
it is Bree and I with the evolution a WWE
and fighting for women, we realize how amazing it is

(10:34):
to make your voice strong and let it be heard
and fight for things you believe in, and so all
with that, and then having the equity and people being
invested in us on reality TV for so long, that
became like our extension the podcast world. When we didn't
really want to do reality anymore because of the kids,
podcasting became the place where people still got that piece
of us. But then also Bri and I were like,

(10:56):
this is a platform where we could continue to use
our voice bring people on. What are the things we
want heard. We don't like to do the celebrity gossip.
We like to have purpose, you know, purpose and't fun.
I'm like, those are like the good things you know
about it? Yeah, And it's fun for us because we're
best friends and we're twins and we have made this
what we call marriage work for a very long time

(11:18):
because in the end, that's what it feels like, is
a marriage. But we enjoy it together. We truly love
working together. I love that.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Yeah, what's the best part of being a part of
that storytelling side now as a professional athlete as a businesswoman.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
You know, I think it's always been in me since
I've been a little girl. But I love to storytell
and I see it a lot in my son. I
just think we have in whatever business I'm in, an opportunity.
I look at everything at a blank canvas, and I'm like,
how can I create? What story do I get to
tell people today? And like the fact that, like we

(11:54):
all have this opportunity right, like to tell some type
of story every day to make magic. It's incredible, especially
learning that so much in the ring. Every night we
go out there, we were able to tell a story
to a live crowd and get them to connect to
a boot here. Yeah, which was the greatest feeling, especially
when they bought into it. You were like, it works

(12:14):
and they're reacting. And we really have taken that into
our brands as well, because I think that's the best
part of brands, especially nowadays with social media, you need
to have a story because that's if you don't have
a story, how can people invest. It's even when you
look at a wine bottle, you guys probably definitely look
at for the label. You get drawn in and then
you want to turn it around and you want to

(12:35):
read a story, and sometimes just based off that, you're
going to buy the wine without even tasting it or
knowing the reviews. And so when you look in all
these different parts of business, we get such an incredible
opportunity to storytelling. The people that don't truly miss out.
I know that's right.

Speaker 4 (12:50):
Listen, if I ever got a WWE debut, if I'm
not a heel, I can't do it.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Yeah, I need people to hate me. Being a villain's
the best. You have more fun fun.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
It's the only way that I would ever want to
be a WWBS.

Speaker 2 (13:06):
I loved it. And you know, someone recently was asking me, like,
but how do you get so much passion in like
being mean when you're delivering the promos? And I go,
you're a nice person, right, And they're like, yeah, I go,
think of all those times you wanted to tell someone
off but you're too nice to do it. Well, I
say that right in here, and then I let it
out because I'm such a pleaser, and it all sticks
in and then I find the moment when I need

(13:27):
to get it out. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (13:28):
I love that last one for me because I know
you've got to get to your panel. But just the
way again, as we talk about women and women in sport,
in women in business, you mentioned that you were investing
in yourself, and I think this conference is just a
showcase of people that are willing to show the investment
and you in us and others and just in women

(13:50):
in general. Just how important is it to ensure that
futuristically women have someone that they can look to and say,
this is a person that I could admire because they're
willing to put their money or their mouth there is
They're willing to show and prove that we are worth
the investment and will do the work for the investment.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
Yeah, and what was the question?

Speaker 4 (14:07):
I'm sorry, no, Just how important is it to you
and like to be someone people can look up to?

Speaker 2 (14:11):
Oh my gosh, thank you for one. And it's really
important because I know the importance of having role models,
and I feel like now we're in such a generation
and kind of the past almost two decades of summer
role models not in the right way, and sometimes our
youth needs role models in a different way, and that

(14:32):
was very important to my sister and I was to
have them believe in something that they know they could be,
whether that was the inside or the outside, but where
little girls could go, I can be that one day,
I can look like that one day, or it could
be these things I can do it, And that was
so important for my sister and I had to showcase

(14:52):
not the things that they couldn't attain, but the things
they could be right. And it's been such an incredible journey.
My manager was actually just talking me about it today
after being here this past weekend. He's never gone to
wrestling events, so to see the Bella Army in person
like that, he goes, how does that feel? And I'm like,
you know, sometimes I have to take a moment to
be like wow when you have someone come, you know,

(15:14):
walk up drifts like you and tell you how you
inspired them and how you got them through things. And
that is why I've always stayed doing what I've done
reality podcasting, putting the good, the bad, and the ugly
out there, which very much my whole life has been
out there. But what keeps me sane and healthy is
I'm like someone's sitting on that couch, learning from it,
knowing they're not alone, knowing that this is how I

(15:36):
could rise up like the phoenix too, this is how
I can overcome and all of that is so important for.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Me, and it's certainly inspired. Before you get out of here,
have one fun question, because we said we are wine girlies. Yeah,
so I need to know what is your go to
wine of choice?

Speaker 2 (15:50):
Oh, I mean besides opus one. I'm just kidding. I
have to say right now, I'm all about the bubbles.
I just love how the bubble make me feel. We
just came out with a sparkling rose, which when it
comes summertime, I do love a sparkling rose. But do
you like that? Yeah, can't go wrong, and then it's

(16:10):
still rose. So rose a pino noir that doesn't have bubbles.
Do you like a little spicy kick a little bit? Okay?
Do a sliced raw houlapano, just a little slice? Put
it in your rose?

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Maybe two ice cubes, a slice holpen and your rose.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
Yeah, but make sure it's still not the bubble c line.
I'm telling you it'll be hard to go back because
the aroma as you sip it from the Haulapano and
then you get a tiny little kick, but it's like
summer in your mouth. I don't know what it does,
but I've gone people so hooked on it, but it
is amazing.

Speaker 1 (16:42):
I am definitely always to try that Summer total wine
in my neighborhood and I am totally ho Yes, Nikky,
thank you so much for joining us and looking forward
to seeing what you do in the future.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
Thank you, Thank you both.

Speaker 3 (16:56):

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
