Speaker 1 (00:01):
In Case you missed It with Christina Williams is an
iHeart Women's Sports production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports
and Entertainment. Welcome back to In Case you missed It
with Christina Williams here on Iheartwomen's Sports Network. And y'all,
we're still here in Indianapolis hanging out with some of
the All Stars, and we're here the first time All
(00:22):
Star Page Beckers of the Dallas Wings House this weekend. Then,
for you, so far, it's been.
Speaker 2 (00:27):
A lot of fun, just getting the build new relationships,
meet new people, just soak up the whole experience. There's
so many amazing women here. They are the best basketball
players in the world, but also amazing human beings. So
it's been a joy.
Speaker 1 (00:40):
First time All Star in the same year as their
rookie season. What has it been like to be able
to take in this moment.
Speaker 2 (00:46):
Yeah, it's been a journey of ups and downs, highs
and lows, learning curves, just trying to embrace everything that's
come our way, and just not setting expectations for yourself,
just living in the moment with the results and whatever
that may be. So it's it's been very rewarding to
get here. I think the organization, my teammates, a coaching
(01:07):
staff have made if possible. It just embraced me with
open arms and how many to be confident in who
I am step into that role. So yeah, it's been
a journey.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
You've had, like some of the best stretch in your
professional career. It's just coming off of a national title,
being drafted number one, now an All star in your
rookie season. How do you measure that success and what
keeps you going?
Speaker 2 (01:27):
You can appreciate the success because you've appreciated the failures
and what it took to get to that point. And
like after winning the now do you appreciated the adversity
it took to overcome that, to get over the hump
and to win and then living out your childhood dream
getting drafted to the WNBA and now being here like
in this environment with the best players in the country
(01:49):
or in the world. It's just like an experience you
soak up and you don't take for granted all the steps,
so you can't skip a step, so all the steps
that it took to get there, along the journey, along
your path, like it's just a beautiful, a beautiful way
of life. To just appreciate everything that gets thrown your way.
Speaker 1 (02:04):
Diana Trazzi was recently on this show and she talked
about like your leadership and your evolution as a basketball player.
When you hear those positive things from you know, the
ones that came before you, how does that make you feel.
Speaker 2 (02:18):
Just a whole bunch of gratitude because they know what
it takes to be in that position to try to
find your leadership role as a rookie, coming into an
organization where there's a lot of new and just trying
to build a stable culture and foundation to what you
wanted to look like for the rest of your career.
So for one of the greats of the game, one
(02:39):
of my goats DT to speak highly of me, it
means a lot because I know she knows what it
takes and she has experience in it all.
Speaker 1 (02:47):
We're on the heels of the w NBPA in the
players meeting, and I know you're just a rookie, but
you know all the players who have come through today
talked about the solidarity that you all are carrying into
this phase of this CBA negotiations and as one of
the phases of the league, how important is that and
mistakes that what's at stake for the next CBA.
Speaker 2 (03:06):
Yeah, it's an extremely important time right now and women's
sports and women's basketball specifically and negotiating the new CBA.
So for us to all a large part of us,
So I think it was over fifty of us or
forty of us that were in that room just showed
a whole bunch of strength and unity and togetherness that
we're going to continue to keep fighting for what we
think we earn and deserve. And it's not just for
(03:29):
the next couple of years, it's a new CBA negotiation
for the next seven years. And we know that the
momentum and the movement for women's sports right now is
at an all time high. So we think and we
know we're a huge part of that. And we're not
trying to sound ungrateful or unappreciative of all the things
that this league has done for us, so all the
things that our teams do for us, but for us
to be a large part of it, who sacrifice time, money, effort,
(03:52):
our bodies are like, we just put a lot into it,
and we think like we deserve a piece of the cake,
to a large piece of it, and the proposal that
we got back. I'm just learning about the CBA and
negotiations as a rookie, like asking questions. But I know
the proposal that we got back was disrespectful in the
sense to where it didn't really give us what we
(04:12):
think we deserve. So we're going to continue to keep
showing up, keep fighting together, and keep going in that direction.
Speaker 1 (04:18):
Sticking with All Stars obviously your first but when you
think about all the players that you get to play
with and this being for the fans, what do you
hope fans take away from this All Star weekend?
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Just the experience of us all being on the court
at the same time, the environment, all the stuff you
can do at w Live, like the convention center around
the arena, like just what the city of India has
done to promote the game, Like you see the whole
the billboards, you see the w faces all over the city.
(04:51):
So just to really soak up the whole experience and
try to do as much things as you can because
this is really a unique time.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Yeah, and sticking with All Star being in that locker room,
if you were to have the Ox Court, what song
are you playing in the locker room for All Star weekends.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
Probably what did I missed by Drake?
Speaker 1 (05:09):
That's a good one. That's a good one. If you
were miked up. What is something that fans will definitely
hear you say during the game.
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Oh, probably talking a little crap. I don't know what specifically,
but look.
Speaker 1 (05:21):
You're a trash talker.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
I mean in an All Star game. Probably, yeah, yeah,
just to poke fun, just to be a troll. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
What are you looking forward to the most? Just about
the roster that you get to play on at the
All Star weekend and going up again some of the
players that you know, you go up to against day
and day out. But it's just something different. It's more
of an entertainment factor.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, just yeah, like the entertainment piece that you said,
there's a new interesting sub pattern the four point.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
How many floors are you gonna shoot this weekend?
Speaker 2 (05:47):
I don't know, it depends how many going if I'm
gonna keeping more so, uh, but just yeah, sharing the
floor with so many legends of the game that I've
been looking up to h and just soaking up the experience,
asking questions, just trying to grow as much as I
can through this time because there's not this many opportunities
where that many great players are in the same area
(06:08):
at the same time.
Speaker 1 (06:09):
So yeah, yeah, right before you get out of here,
we're gonna go over some old school wnbah friends and
you let me know if you want to run it
back or throw it out?
Speaker 2 (06:17):
Okay, all right, all right?
Speaker 1 (06:18):
So the first one who comes from Asia Wilson in
early two thousands kind of vibe the jersey dress. Will
you throw it out or you want to run it back?
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Run it back? But not for me, but Asia look
made it look real good. So I'm gonna say running back.
People who wear a dresses.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Yeah, this one is the Skylar Diggins headdan era. Would
you run it back or throw it out? I feel
like you don't wear headbands.
Speaker 2 (06:41):
I don't wear headbands, but I did have a headband era,
not like Scott, but I had one of my own
that wasn't as great as hers. I will say I
would say bring it back, because why not. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:52):
So amongst the older players, they said that they want
to bring this trend back, especially for the nightclubs, the
business casual face. Are you running it back or are
you throwing out? Nekka said she wants the tailor to
twork so like, bring business casual back to the clubs.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Oh Taylor, suits will not be I'll probably be pretty
comfy casual, comfy castule. I like that.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
All right, run it back or throw it out. We're
on your teen's jersey at All Star weekends.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Throw it out?
Speaker 1 (07:24):
What you are the first player to say, throw it out?
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Really? Yes, I feel like you. I want like a
unique All Star jersey. Okay, that's fair, that's fair, but
throw it out, like, yeah, throw it out.
Speaker 1 (07:36):
The first player to say that, I think, yeah, you
should get your own little cool all right, run it
back or throw it out? Now, amongst your fellow rookies
all said that the it's over, WM orange hooty out,
throw it out.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
We you know we need some new we need this
little what would you say? Purple purple? Yeah, I like that.
There's a little color switch up. Purple.
Speaker 1 (07:55):
Last one before you get out of here. If you
could bring any event to w NBA All Star event,
would that.
Speaker 2 (08:00):
Be any event? Anything?
Speaker 1 (08:02):
At least your grace said she would bring golf, like
make a golf competition.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
Golf was my first thought.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
Are you really good at golf?
Speaker 2 (08:10):
I'm not really good at golf. I'm pretty mid probably
below average. A hot dog getting contests?
Speaker 1 (08:18):
WHOA, Okay, this is funny.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
My friends.
Speaker 1 (08:21):
I'm gonna say something right now, and my friends who
were watching this are going to do so. Page said
a hot dog eating contest hot Glizzies. She said, bring
hot glizzies a hot guzzy competition. Yeah, I'm gonna understand
that one his places, but so was it Joey Chestnut?
Speaker 2 (08:37):
Want I need to see that man live?
Speaker 1 (08:38):
Would you compete in the hot dog eating contest?
Speaker 2 (08:41):
I would get one by when I love a good glizzy. Okay,
so okay, but I'm not a gobbler like that. Well, Page, I.
Speaker 1 (08:49):
Want to thank you for coming through to in case
you missed it, best of luck at their first All
Star Please soak it all in and have so much.
