Speaker 1 (00:01):
In Case You Missed It with Christina Williams is an
iHeart Women's Sports production in partnership with Deep Blue Sports
and Entertainment. Welcome to another episode of In Case You
Missed It with Christina Williams. Here on Iheartwomen's Sports and
I'm here with seven times All Star Skyler Diggens.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
How are you doing today, I'm doing pretty good. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
How does it feel to be back in Indianapolis? I
know you're from South End.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
How does it feel to just be back in the city.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
It feels great.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
I have a lot of family here, obviously, spend a
lot of time here growing up, spent a lot of
time in AU tournaments and state championship, high school games,
final fours with Notre Dame, and you know, et cetera,
et cetera, And so I always talk about me being
an Indian animal, and the hoosia hysteria is real. And
you know, a lot of people had things to say

(00:52):
about All Star being here, but the essence and the
culture of basketball is here, and the fans have been great,
The city is been great so far.

Speaker 2 (01:00):
So proud to be here.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
My family be driving down, my kids will be here,
and so it's gonna be a great weekend.

Speaker 3 (01:06):
You're no stranger to these All Star games.

Speaker 1 (01:08):
What would you say has just willed you to play
such a phenomenal display of basketball in the first half
of the season.

Speaker 4 (01:15):
Yeah, I think Noel Quinn. You know, no, we just
just having her leadership. Obviously, I get to play with
a lot of talented players that that compliment me really well.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
And that I compliment as well.

Speaker 4 (01:26):
And so the chemistry that we've we've had there with
this team. We know we haven't painted our masterpiece, but
we've been playing some some pretty good basketball trending in
a certain direction. So I'm really excited about quarter three
and and and the next, this next push of the season.
I think it's really different nowadays we all start break
being like halfway through the season, whereas we're usually probably

(01:47):
three fourths of the way through at this point, and
so just gearing up for the second half of the season. Obviously,
you know, being here with Neca, being here with Gabby
no he double, being the skills challenge, and so it's
great to have the representation of the Storm here and
to have three players involved in All Star Weekend. It
says a lot about our leadership and our talented, how
talented our team is.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
What's the best part about these All Star weekends for you?

Speaker 4 (02:12):
I think just getting experience it with with other players
and the caliber players that that are here, just understanding,
you know, I'm one of them, and being in the
same conversation, getting to see people in different environments, kind
of getting you to let your hair down a little bit,
if you will, And I.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
Think it's dope.

Speaker 4 (02:31):
Get to celebrate all the greatness that we have in
this league. Another aspect of that too, was we're all
able to you know, assemble for the CBA meeting. Yes,
And in my thirteen years of being in this league,
that was the most representation that I've ever experienced from
a player level. And so it shows how locked in
we are. It shows how unified we are as players,

(02:53):
and it shows how hard we're going to fight to
sustain this league so my daughter can play in this league,
you know. And so that was really one of the
best moments so far to me, uh, for the weekend
was the CBA meeting and how we all came together
for that.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
I did see the picture of all of you guys
in the elevator. Yeah, it showed out for another what did.

Speaker 2 (03:13):
You leave that meeting feeling disappointed?

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Just extremely disappointed as far as that being an opportunity
that I felt like was missed with all the players
being there. But I was extremely happy with our side
at the table. So let me say that it was
it was it was mixed emotions there because I was
happy to see how we represented ourselves, what we what
we said in those meetings, our disposition, like I said, uh,

(03:39):
the representation, all those things I was happy with on
our side. So I didn't lead disappointed with anything that
we did on our side. It was more so the
league's response are lack thereof And so we talk about
all these teams that we think we're going to be
adding over the few years, Well, you can't have an
expansion draft with out of CBA.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
So I'll just say that.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
What's something that the league absolutely can't get wrong this time.

Speaker 4 (03:59):
Around when we talk about a revenue share, when we
talk about player salaries. Obviously in twenty twenty, we wouldn't
have a league if we didn't go into the bubble
with necause leadership. You know, we wouldn't have a twenty
twenty five All Star twenty four to twenty three twenty
two or twenty one, and so it's a lot of
things that you know, the league needs to listen to
us on and respond or there will be consequences just

(04:20):
like that.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
And going back to this All Star I mean, we're
in your hometown and your home.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
City lost to celebrate.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
We talked about some of your favorite moments and being
able to have your family here. As a veteran, what
are some of the things you're saying to some of
the newer players who are walking through those soccer rooms.

Speaker 2 (04:35):
Yeah, I mean not a lot. And that's what people ask, like,
what advice do you have.

Speaker 4 (04:39):
I think it's more so just being open to the conversation,
the availability, the accessibility, or just holding space for moments
that you can get and every time I you know,
I know I'm a mom of the group, and I
know I'm one of the oldest ones in the group
because I feel that way this year is even saying
grabbing people and having a moment to decide like, hey,
I'm proud of you, you.

Speaker 2 (04:57):
Know a way to play and vice versa.

Speaker 4 (04:59):
And so I think having those little moments where you know,
you give people their flowers or likewise, you may have
a conversation with somebody that maybe you wouldn't have had
the opportunity with so accessible that All Star gives you.

Speaker 1 (05:11):
Yeah, I know fans are excited to see you on
Team Collier. Yes, I get that unrivaled reunion.

Speaker 2 (05:16):
It is it.

Speaker 4 (05:17):
Is, and people would go in on us and me,
why are you guys going so hard in this? Why
are you guys taking this so seriously? Why aren't you
guys y'all doing the most? The Owls do the most.
And we have four people here from our team, and
you know, playing alongside those women day to day, getting
to see their work ethic, all of us pushing each

(05:38):
other when we only had five people the whole year.
Everybody has six. But I think it was just that
mindset that we all pushed each other because we wanted
to be great in this and that as well. But
obviously we use it for what we wanted to use
it for. And so I only could speak for our team,
and we went hard every day and the work always shows.
I mean, they were great before they went to arrival,

(06:00):
but I think iron sharpens iron, and the tie really rose.

Speaker 1 (06:03):
You know, with all of us, I feel like you're
a dog on the court and you just bring that mentality,
whether it's an All Star game, whether it's a regular
season playoff game, what brings out that dog in you.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
I love basketball, period. I love basketball. I'm very passionate
about the game. And so you know, I know it
could be aspects of me that that may be a
bit misunderstood, but I'm not explaining my damn self. You know,
I love the game. I'm an Indian animal. And at
five nine one five, you don't make it to seven
All Stars if you're not a dog on that lead
on that court. So you can't take it easy on

(06:31):
that court at any night. You know it's bill to ask.
You know, that's what everybody is going to say and think.
And so I think the greatest respect I can give
to the women in this league is to compete as
hard as I can, and so I only compete when
it's a competition.

Speaker 2 (06:43):
Favorite All Star memory, this whole Star is really special.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
I remember my first All Star though it was in Phoenix,
just that group of players was crazy, The game was crazy.
We almost think we almost went into overtime or something
like that.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
That's probably my most memorable game.

Speaker 4 (06:57):
But I feel like for some reason it'll be this
one the one that my kids get to experience, and
so I'm looking forward to that.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Scott.

Speaker 1 (07:13):
Before you get out of here and play a little game,
I'm gonna shay you some throw back w NBA trends
and you let me know if you want to run
it back or.

Speaker 2 (07:20):
Throw it out? Okay, all right, let's see. I hope
I ain't around for any of them, because I might be.
I might be in a few of them. Okay, So
here's the first one.

Speaker 3 (07:28):
Run it back or throw it out? We're in your team,
seriously at w NBA All Star.

Speaker 2 (07:32):
Yes, I missed that. That's what we used to do. Yes,
I am old, I am old enough to be in
this throw it back? Yes, throw back?

Speaker 4 (07:39):
All right?

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Cool?

Speaker 1 (07:40):
Sonika, we talked about this with Neck and all the players.
She says she would run this back the orange hooty era.

Speaker 2 (07:46):
Oh yeah, did that ever?

Speaker 1 (07:47):
Like go out?

Speaker 2 (07:48):
Like my daughter got that? I don't even think. I
don't think that went out of style.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
I think kids were saying this era is over, of
course it's time for something.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Well what was their ideas? Well? I didn't have the
right What are your bright eydeas? And we're if not?
This is sticking.

Speaker 3 (08:03):
All right, give all right, this is this is all.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
This is your running back the Skylar digg Yeah, era
are you running the back?

Speaker 2 (08:12):
We're running back the heaven. We're running back the name.
We're running back everything. You know what I'm saying. Yeah,
you have it, you have it? All right.

Speaker 4 (08:19):
So the jersey dress, see this is this is this
is this early two thousands. This is confrontational because she
still wears this, she still wears those.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
That she does.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yes, she did, she did.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (08:31):
I am mad at jersey dresses. Okay, I am at
Judgie dresses.

Speaker 3 (08:34):
Would you wear one?

Speaker 4 (08:36):
I probably wouldn't wear one perpectly, but if I'm going
to like a throwback situation, yeah that or a little
you know, little coutour, a little two piece. I am
mad at that nineties style coming back. I see I
sprinkled in here and there speaking of.

Speaker 3 (08:47):
Nineties style, well not nineties, but early two thousands. The
w NBA business castual.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
Raftics like let me see this, like we would wear
this to like the clothes that's when we went out
like I was twenty one.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
You should bring back Taylor to twerk business.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
I just said something about this yesterday.

Speaker 4 (09:06):
We do business core heavy now on the w But
it wasn't like we would go out in this. We'd
be wearing like pencil skirts and like blouses to the club,
dancing into the club neck remember that because we used
to go together business We put a remix on business course.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
Now we style it up.

Speaker 4 (09:21):
You see people wearing business cort Now the suits are
coming back and pinstripes coming back, oversized ties.

Speaker 2 (09:28):
W do business course. So yeah, we could bring it back,
but we can put a little flair, a little flair
to it.

Speaker 1 (09:33):
Speaking of fashion, you've been able to create your own
evolution in terms of what you've been wearing in the tunnels,
how you've been approaching your own style.

Speaker 3 (09:42):
What would you say about the evolution of Skylet Diggins.

Speaker 4 (09:44):
Yeah, I think just that authenticity, being comfortable in your skin,
being comfortable in a petite body type where you don't
have a lot of curves, but just playing with different
silhouettes and textures and patterns and layers.

Speaker 2 (09:56):
And I think just my passion for clothes developed.

Speaker 4 (09:59):
U you know what I wanted, what I didn't want
because all of them main hits, you know, sometimes you
got to try. You maybe that wasn't my thing too
and so I'm warming enough to admit that. But I
think my passion for clothing has grew the people that
I've worked with and collaborated with.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
And I saw you work with my girl, Sydney.

Speaker 4 (10:16):
Yeah, like, shout out to Sydney, you know, shout out
to Christine, shout out to Manny. You know. It's a
lot of people that I've collaborated with in the past,
and I think just stepping outside your comfort zone, but
but making sure at the bottom line to it is
is authenticity. Being confident in yourself and your skin and
how you want to express yourself.

Speaker 2 (10:35):
And then that look good, feel good, play good mantra.
I really believe in that.

Speaker 4 (10:38):
I lean into that, and so yeah, I'm just trying
to be comfortable. If I had to describe my style
in three words, it'd be what I like mm So
what sky.

Speaker 1 (10:48):
Thank you so much for joining us. I wish you
the best of luck this weekend at All Star and
so so so.

Speaker 2 (10:53):
Proud of you. Appreciation, Thank you so much.
