Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio podcast. Hey everyone,
this is your Morning Run for Thursday, September twenty fifth.
I'm Amy Robot and I'm TJ.
Speaker 2 (00:11):
Holmes. Yes, they tried to shut him down, but they
did the opposite. Kimmel had record ratings. I didn't think
they were going to say record. I thought it would
be higher of it. I didn't know what they're gonna say. Record.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, like in like many many years, like beyond.
Speaker 2 (00:25):
Yes, he did gang Busters. Thinks all this controversy will
tell you what those numbers are. Also on this Thursday morning, now,
we told you about that statue of Epstein and Trump
that showed up on the National Mall. It's gone as
fast as it came. It's gone already. It has been removed.
Do you wonder why? Also this morning, the President wants
an immediate investigation because he said he was sabotaged at
(00:48):
the UN and possibly by the UN. I told you
about a long social media post he had yesterday. This
one was longer.
Speaker 1 (00:56):
Yeah, he said not once, not twice, but three times.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Three times. Babotage will tell you what he's on about.
And I'll also remind it. Take a look at that
Apple podcast app top right corners. As followers click that,
you can get our updates anytime they come out. And
there are a lot these days, including on the run
this morning, one dead, two in critical condition after a
targeted attack at an ice facility. Also Alabama set to
(01:19):
carry out an execution tonight that the victim's sun doesn't
even want to happen. Also, a man continues to plead,
He continues to plead with the state. We told you
about that story earlier. Also, we got Diddy in court
today and he's going to give us a bit of
a hail Mary. He has a shot to possibly go home.
Nobody really thinks it's going to happen, but he is
(01:40):
taking a chance anyway.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
Yeah, one week before he actually has his sentencing date.
So we will keep you updated on all of that.
But we begin our run this morning in Texas, where
one person is dead and two others were sent to
the hospital in critical condition after police say a man
opened fire indiscriminately at an ice facility in Dallas. Is
being labeled an act of targeted violence.
Speaker 2 (02:01):
Noah, I was already say the shooter was on a
rooftop when he began firing at that facility. That shooter
was later identified as twenty nine year old Joshua John.
He was found dead of a self inflicted gunshot wound.
But police, even though they have not said a specific motive,
they said there was anti ICE messaging on the bullet casings,
(02:21):
but Robes even though it seems they think he might
have been targeting ICE agents, no ICE agents were actually injured.
And this incident only it appears detainees who were there.
Speaker 1 (02:31):
All right, next up on the run. It turns out
getting suspended is really good for ratings. Jimmy Kimmel's return
to the air Tuesday night garnered some of the highest
viewership the show has ever seen. Disney says six point
two six million people tuned in to hear what Kimmel
had to say after he was suspended.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Okay, he said six point twenty six million people. A
little perspective here. The show last season averaged one point
four million viewers. Wow, three times, four times? Do that mask?
Speaker 1 (03:02):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
But yes, was what we You know what I thought
he'd go up. I didn't know it go up that much.
That was impressive. Also impressive because it wasn't everywhere in
the country. Now the Tuesday show also had the highest
rating in the coveted eighteen to forty nine de mon Robes.
That hasn't happened since twenty fifteen.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Wow, ten years in the making. And also get this,
his monologue has been viewed twenty six million times and
counting on YouTube and elsewhere. That's got to be pretty
record setting as well. And Sinclair and Nextstar still up
in the air. Nextar continuing to evaluate the status of
the show. But yeah, you make the point the fact
that he got those kinds of numbers where twenty percent
(03:42):
of his audience was not allowed to view it, that
is remarkable.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, that has everything to do with Sinclair and Next Star,
probably two names a lot of people in the country
didn't even know before this controversy popped up. But these
two are the biggest owners of ABC stations in the country.
Both of those opted to preempt kimmel'sh so wouldn't put
it on their ABC stations. And there's no clear indication
at least right now Robes of when the show might
(04:07):
return to those stations.
Speaker 1 (04:08):
That's right. So for its part, Next Our put out
this statement giving us an update about where things stand,
saying Next Star is continuing to evaluate the status of
Jimmy Kimmel live on our ABC affiliated local television stations,
and the show will be preempted while we do so.
They go on to say this, we are engaged in
productive discussions with executives at the Walt Disney Company with
(04:29):
a focus on ensuring the program reflects and respects the
diverse interests of the communities we serve.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
That is a high vague bar that they're asking him
to meet. Continuing on the run here now back in Manhattan,
Sean Diddy Combs going to be back in court today,
I believe, right, the first time right since the verdict? Yes,
I believe so yeah, so yeah, that was in July.
So he's going to be back in court today. The
judge is going to take up post trial motions and
(04:58):
there is a hail Marian. Did He's defense team is
asking the judge to throw out the verdicts against him.
Speaker 1 (05:05):
Now, that would be a shocker if that happened. But
also today the lawyers are expected to make arguments for
why did he should only be sentenced to fourteen months
in prison and with the time that he's already served,
that means did he would be home for the holidays.
His sentencing is scheduled for next week, which is October third,
and the prosecutors, of course want much more than that.
(05:25):
Four to five years, I believe was the last ass
that we saw.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
I thought to think this man was considering or was
up for life in prison, and we're talking about he
could be cutting the Thanksgiving turkey.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
You think that's gonna happen?
Speaker 2 (05:36):
Though, this judge has been pretty consistent that this dude
should not be on the street, correct.
Speaker 1 (05:43):
I mean they tried very hard and actually fairly convincingly,
at least in terms when we went through the arguments
of why did he should be allowed bail until his
sentencing hearing to the point where I thought.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
Hmmm, he's gone home.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
That might sound reasonable enough where the judge could say yes,
and guess what. The judge, politely, he's been very respectful,
still said no.
Speaker 2 (06:01):
But consistent. Yeah, we'll continue on the run here on
this Thursday morning, and we probably robes. I don't know
if we predicted this. We said it out loud, but
privately maybe we knew this was gonna happen. That trump
Epstein's statue we told you about here yesterday showed up
on the National Mall in Washington. Well, it's gone already, Robes.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
That's right. The bronze colored statue was a form of protest,
if you will, from a group called the Secret Handshake.
It depicted Trump and Epstein smiling, holding hands, frolickings that's
the word you use it, I use frolicking. I think
I've seen skipping. I mean, it's hilarious. Even if it
just was of Trump by himself, it's a funny motion
that you would never see him actually make. So to
(06:41):
see him doing it with Epstein, with them holding hands
together is I know, it's it's it's not funny to
a lot of folks, but just the image itself does
make you smile. And the statue's title says best Friends Forever.
It did not make Trump smile.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
It did not. It also had a plaque on it
that red we celebrate the long lasting bomb between President
Donald J. Trump and his closest friend, Jeffrey Epstein. Again
we told you about this. It showed up on Tuesday. Yes,
it was gone by Wednesday.
Speaker 1 (07:11):
The group claimed to have a permit and that the
statue would be up for the week, but the National
Park Service removed it because They say it did not
comply with the permit issued and by the way, it's
severely damaged. According to the photos released by the group,
Trump's head is actually sliced, sliced in half.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Yeah, it looks wow. I thought, Oh who did in while?
Know what that's about.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
Look, they did have a permit through Sunday at eight pm.
Speaker 2 (07:38):
They claim this is bs. They say they're actually trying
to make some argument that the statue is a little taller.
Speaker 1 (07:44):
Oh, I'm sure that's what it was. I'm sure that's
what it was, just by a few inches. But oh well,
had to take it down for those you know, height regulations.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Hey, you rule breakers, do you think? But some of
us follow the rules. Okay, all right, continue on the
run here now, folks going to head south, specifically to
Alabama State, planning to move forward with the execution of
a convicted killer tonight, despite please from the victim's son
not to go through with the execution. Yes, Will Barry
(08:14):
is his name, and he is trying to save the
life of a man who killed his mother.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
Jeffrey West shot Margaret Parrish Barry in the head during
a robbery at the gas station where she was working
in nineteen ninety seven. Will Barry was just eleven years
old when his mom was killed, but now says he
forgives West and that West has expressed remorse to him
in letters that the two have exchanged, and Barry actually
says he wants to meet West, but his request was denied.
(08:40):
There are safety protocols in place where they won't allow victims'
family members in any circumstance, for any reason, to meet
with the convicted killers of said family member, And it
makes it look you can understand how there could be
oh yeah, I just want to talk to him, and
then violence erupts. That makes a lot of sense.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
And also both sides agree to this wasn't just buried,
but West's the convicted killer. His team, everybody agreed. Everybody
was on board, but the state would not allow it
to happen, so he and others delivered a petition. Barry
and others delivered a petition to the governor this week
pleading for her to stop the execution. But the governor
has previously said she's just following the law and roll.
This is a fairly new method, I believe only the
(09:19):
second time they're using an Alabama nitrogen gas is going
to be used for the execution, and to hear it,
I mean they put a mask on the person's face
and they're just pumping that through the mask. So you're
being denied oxygen and you're just breathing in this stuff.
So obviously you're denied oxygen. The body can't live. But
(09:41):
that's the method that's being used tonight.
Speaker 1 (09:43):
He got to choose it right when he was sentenced
to death. He had a you know, it's kind of
a weird thing where you get to choose how you die.
But these days, it seems like with all the reports
coming out of execution chambers, and there have been quite
like a record setting execution. You're at least in the
state of Florida. But it doesn't seem as if there's
any way that isn't cruel and unusual. There seems to
be suffering in each in each in every way. So
(10:06):
I think he chose this, at least it's reported that
he chose it because he felt like this would be
the least painless, But it's tough to know in these moments.
And yes, that's scheduled for later this.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
Evening, and I know you meant less painful. Oh what
did I say the least painless?
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Oh I meant to say, yes, sorry, less painful.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Yeah, all right, continuing on the run here now we
were talking about this off the top, This story I
cannot believe is picking up as much steam as it
has been. Yeah. The next leg brings us back to Manhattan,
particularly on the East Side, where President Trump says he
wants an immediate investigation because he was the victim of
a triple sabotage during his appearance at the United Nations
(10:45):
this week. There were a couple of high profile mishaps
during his visit on Tuesday, and a lot of this
was gone on camp.
Speaker 1 (10:52):
Yes. So first, as cameras were rolling, the President and
the first lady stepped onto an escalator and then it
just stopped.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
Everybody know, this is the famous escalator. Anytime you see
something from the UNN, all these world leaders have to
go up this big escalator. So cameras are everywhere. It's
kind of embarrassing.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
Do you think someone just cut the power to it?
Speaker 2 (11:11):
Not at all?
Speaker 1 (11:12):
Okay, all right, so it just stopped, and that was embarrassed.
They had to walk then, all right. Then, as the
President was delivering his speech, the teleprompter went out, been there,
done that. These things do happen. And now the President
says the audio in the auditorium was jacked and people
in the room just couldn't hear him speaking at all.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
He said, when you stepped off first person, he saw
his Milania, He asked, how did I do she said,
I have no idea. I did not hear a word
you said. So this is sabotaged. Obviously, all of this
cannot be a coincidence. According to the administration, Press Secretary
Carolyn Levitt says, a secret service is actually looking into
the matter. But listen to just a little bit of
(11:54):
what Donald Trump had to say in a long social
media post on the matter.
Speaker 1 (11:59):
A real disgrace took place at the United Nations yesterday,
not one, not two, but three very sinister events. Exclamation point.
This wasn't a coincidence. This was triple sabotage at the UN.
They ought to be ashamed of themselves. I demand an
immediate investigation. No wonder the United Nations hasn't been able
(12:20):
to do the job they were put in existence to do.
All security tapes that the escalator should be saved, especially
the emergency stop button. The Secret Service is involved. Thank
you for your attention to this matter. Exclamation point A fine.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
But here's the thing you asked, if we really thought
somebody did this. It turns out the United Nations has
already looked into this, and they already responded. First of all,
the escalator that was a photographer, a US photographer, they say,
by the way, who was trying to get ahead of
them to get a shot and had equipment and whatnot.
And they think accidentally bumped the emergency stop button. Is
(12:57):
that plausible, islaw?
Speaker 1 (13:00):
But I can understand why he might feel like someone
did it deliberately, especially a member of the media.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
And there was a tabloid over in London that reported
that someone some workers were overheard saying they thought this
would be funny to stop the escalator.
Speaker 1 (13:16):
So he is putting these two I could see. I
see to me that one does seem a little sinister.
That you know, just right when Trump and Malania get
on this escalator comes to it.
Speaker 2 (13:26):
You're standing at the top. The button's right there. You
can't everybody's.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
Gonna I honestly didn't even know there was a button
at the.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
Topmen emergency button to make sure things don't get stuck.
Why it's a safety thing. Also the teleprompter, why did
the teleprompter go down? You in says, we don't know
y'all were running it.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
The White House was running.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
The White House was in charge of the teleprompters.
Speaker 1 (13:47):
As someone's getting fired.
Speaker 2 (13:49):
That was on you. And he did reference both of
these things like at living during the speech, say yeah,
I am telepropter. Don't work, escalator don't work. What are
y'all doing?
Speaker 1 (13:56):
He said it during the speech, but no one heard him,
so it was, okay.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
Make a very good point. All right, stay with us
folks here on this Thursday morning run Rihanna. Don't you
just love how she makes her baby announcements. She surprises
us and tells us she's pregnant in the first place.
Now we find out about baby number three and she
is gonna have two big brothers.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
As we continue our morning run on this Friday Eve,
we've got some celebratory news. That's nice. It's a nice
way to end a morning run. We don't often get
to do this, but baby number three has finally arrived
for Rihanna and ASoP Rocky. The couple announced the birth
of their first daughter, how Sweet, born over the weekend.
Speaker 2 (14:47):
This was the little one we found out about at
the met Gala earlier this year. She was in New
York and she was photographed a couple of times it
looked like she had a baby bump, but she went
to the met Gala made it official. This is how
she likes, This is how she likes to roll.
Speaker 1 (15:02):
At the Super Bowl she revealed the other one. That
was a great reveal watching the halftime show and we
were all like, wait, is she pregnant? That was actually
really clever and amazing.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
I loved Okay, that was I became such a much
bigger fan.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
It was cool.
Speaker 2 (15:18):
That was cool. So Rihanna and Asap have two sons,
So the new one is going to have two big brothers.
I always find that to be very cool, cool, very
cute big brothers.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
Yeah, they're going to be very so sweet.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
So everybody's wondering, what's the name of the new baby Robs.
Speaker 1 (15:37):
I love this name, Rocky with an eye Rocky Irish Mayors.
That is really really cute. I love that. And she
joins brothers Riza and Riot.
Speaker 2 (15:48):
Yea Riot and Rocky.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
That is amazing. I love that.
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Rizza, Riot, Rocky, Rihanna and asap. That's fun.
Speaker 1 (15:58):
That is fun, all right, you know what, it's fun.
For the first time in a long time.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
Long time.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
TJ picked the quote of the day today. So please,
my love, do the honors for us.
Speaker 2 (16:09):
You're gonna love this. And the quote is, we have
to assert our dignity in small ways. It's the small
details that let people know we are not invisible. I
don't know the lady's name who uttered this quote, but
I loved it and I wrote it down when I
heard it. You're not gonna believe where I got this one.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
I you're right. Who did you get it? From?
Speaker 2 (16:32):
Lynn? Manuel Miranda's in the Heights. There's a scene from
a woman in there who is taking care of the community,
like the grandmother to the whole community and takes care
of everybody. And the young people are struggling with something.
She was giving some words of advice, like you have
to show up. You have to hold your head up high,
you have to have your shoulders. But you have to
show up and show your dignity in small ways. And
(16:53):
that's how people know you're here. I tell you, I
get quotes from everywhere. I'm watching a random movie. This
was years ago and I've found this this morning in
my thought, Wow, it's fair.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
I've never yet, but that's a cool way to think
of something. I hadn't considered that. But yes, it's those
moments where you take pride in yourself and you show
up in a way that you know is honoring who
you are and what you represent. I love that we
have to assert our dignity in small ways. It's the
small details that let people know we are not invisible.
(17:26):
I've always believed in even small acts, and it's all
the little things we do. It's not the big, grandiose,
look at me moments in life. It's those small, almost
ones that could go unnoticed. But because they're consistent, and
because you show up each and every time, you matter
and they matter. Yes, And with that, everyone, thank you
so much for running with us on this Thursday.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
I'm Amy Robots and I'm TJ Holmes, so so y'all
are real soon
