Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Hey everyone, this is your Morning Run for Thursday, July thirty. First,
I'm Amy Robots and.

Speaker 1 (00:11):
I'm TJ Holmes. Ozzy Ozzy Ozzy Oi Oi Oi. What
a scene? Wasn't that an incredible scene?

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Really?

Speaker 1 (00:20):
What a goodbye to him in his native land. If
you will, he went back home.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
If he was watching, he was smiling. That was a
beautiful tribute to him and emotional, but still just celebratory
at the same time.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
We'll get into the scenes we saw yesterday in Birmingham
as Ozzy Osbourne was laid to rest. Also, we now
know Kamala Harris. We know what she's gonna do. She's
gonna run for president again. I'm saying it right here.
That's not really going out on a limb. But she
did give an indication Robes. Everybody was waiting for this
answer about what she's gonna do when she gave a
very big sign yesterday. Also, we've been talking a lot

(00:57):
we maybe we should stop doing flight scares because this
one's terrifying. Turbulence is one thing, this was something else.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
This was ten percent of the entire plane ended up
having to go to the hospital. Yeah, that's scary.

Speaker 1 (01:11):
Not just treated on the scene. Now, they went to
hospitals because of turbulence.

Speaker 2 (01:15):
Dozens of people were taken off that plane and yes,
taken to a hospital. And when you hear the details
of this turbulence, you can only imagine what it must
have felt like inside that cabin. Whoof we will.

Speaker 1 (01:28):
Get into that and allow a lot of you may
be on the way to work as you're listening, maybe
at work right now, and a lot of you're gonna
grab a can an energy drink at some point you
just need to pick me up. Well, what if you
drink that Instead of getting a boost of energy, you
get drunk. It's possible because there's been a pretty big
mix up out there and vodka ended up in energy

(01:50):
drink cans.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Well, you're talking about adults. What if your kids there
are grabbing an energy drink. That's scary.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
In lies the problem. We'll tell you the heads up
on that one. Also on this Thursday morning run, the
manhunt is over and a school teacher has been arrested
in the murder of that married couple that was out
on a hike with their young children in Arkansas.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
That is a shocking story that we will have more
details on. Also, police now know where the Manhattan high
rise shooter got his gun his boss.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Also this morning, a city councilman set on fire at
his office and police say this was personal, not politics.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Plus, the US economy did something last quarter nobody was predicting,
and the Fed did something yesterday that just about everybody
was predicting.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Also on the run this morning, NFL Hall of Famer
Shannon Sharp is officially out at ESPN, and former NBA
All Star Gilbert Arenas is facing federal charges for allegedly
running a little casino out of a southern California mansion.
Some wild details in there we'll get into.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
All right, But we begin our run on this front
Eve with the five day manhunt over. Police have arrested
a suspect and the murder of that couple hiking with
their young daughters in Arkansas, and the suspect is shockingly
a school teacher.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
Andrew James McGann. Is this school teacher, twenty eight years old,
now facing two counts of murder. He was arrested yesterday
at a barber shop in Springdale, Arkansas, that is about
thirty miles north of Devil's Den State Park, where Clinton
and Kristen Brink were found dead on Saturday. They had
been on a hike with their two daughters, seven and

(03:35):
nine years old. The girls were able to make their
way back to the visitors center, and the girls were unharmed.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
McGann has worked as a fifth grade teacher at a
small school district in Oklahoma, and recently had moved to
northwest Arkansas, where he was about to begin work with
the Springdale School District this upcoming school year. The district
put out a statement saying he'd been hired as a
teacher candidate, but hadn't started his new job yet and
had not been in contact with any students or parents.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Now, as many of you know school teachers, you apply
for a job, you have to do a background check,
and yes, the school districts have said he passed them.
Police did not offer a possible motive for the murders,
but said they were helped along in their investigation by
a flood of tips that came in and romes. We
talked about this. They told everybody, look at your cameras,
look at your video. You might have captured something inadvertently.

(04:26):
And sure enough, they said there was particular video footage
that they received that helped them along in this case.
And this is an interesting look, a composite sketch asking
for the public help it works.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
That is incredible because this is a popular hiking trail.
But certainly when you're in the woods, you're you know,
you're scattered, You're not necessarily around a lot of folks.
But my goodness, this is when technology comes in to
save the day, because without that, it's hard to imagine
that they would have connected those dons.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
And this is a relief as well. We didn't talk
about this while the search was going on, but you
and I not too long ago, attended a wedding in Springdale, Arkansas.
I have two very dear family members, including my sister,
in that area, and so when you hear about this,
we seem like we're so far from it. But to
think a double murderer is on the loose in an
area where your family is, and to think he was

(05:15):
caught in a bustling, very busy town in northwest Argon,
that's Springdale.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
That's crazy. Yes, we know it well, I mean think
about running. Anyone who is going out there doing anything
had to have that in the back of their mind
that this guy was on the loose. Thank goodness, he
is behind bars this morning. Next up on the run.
Police now know where the gunmen in this week's deadly
Manhattan shooting got the assault style rifle he used in
the attack. He bought it from his supervisor at the

(05:40):
casino where he worked in Las Vegas.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
This was Horseshoe Casino out there. Police say Shane Tamura
paid fourteen hundred dollars for the rifle. It appears his
supervisor bought the gun legally. It's unclear right now if
by selling it to Timurr he did something illegal. They're
still looking into that, but at this point the supervisor
is not facing charges.

Speaker 2 (06:02):
Tomorrow killed four people on Monday, including an NYPD officer,
when he walked into a Park Avenue building and then
started shooting. Police say he was targeting the NFL, but
he took the wrong elevator never made it to the
actual floor of the NFL offices before he eventually turned
the gun on himself. Tomorrow had a note on him
suggesting he had CTE of brain injury that is caused

(06:23):
by he was a football player, high school fotball player.

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Correct, so well, This is the one right. It is
a degenerative disease that essentially is from repeated concussions. Concussions
in particular, he claims he had that want them to
study his brain, but there's no indication in his medical
history he was ever diagnosed with any type of brain injury.
But mental health history he did, yes.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
And that's what makes this gun How he got the
gun more interesting because we were wondering and questioning yesterday
how if he had had two documented mental health breaks
basically where he was deemed a threat to himself or others,
how he could possibly then buy a gun. This makes
a lot more sense.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Why we continue on the run now With the Federal
Reserve opted not to change interest rates despite the onslaught
of bully pulpit pressure from the President for them to
cut rates.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Their decision not to cut rates was widely expected, but
something unexpected and recently unprecedented happened. When the Federal Reserve
board voted, two of the twelve voting members dissented. And
you know that just doesn't happen.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
I didn't think anything of it. I said, Okay, it's
twelve of them, two voted no.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Think of the Supreme court.

Speaker 1 (07:31):
Okay, still overwhelmingly they were in favor of it. But
the FED normally votes unanimously. Sometimes you might get one
dissenting vote, and that's just sometimes, because that's even rare.
This time there were two no votes. And it's the
first time robes in thirty two years that there have

(07:53):
been two dissenting votes in a major FED decision. Wow,
I did not know that, But check this out. The
two no votes came from Trump appointees to the board.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
That makes sense.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
So we're talking about all the pressure he's been putting
on the board, in particular Jerome Powell, the FED chairman,
didn't work on them, but it might have worked on
two of his own appointees.

Speaker 2 (08:15):
And still the results are the same. Yes, there is
no interest rate cut, all right. Next up on the
run though, the US economy is growing faster than anyone anticipated.
The latest GDP report showed three percent growth in the economy,
which beat just about everybody's expectations.

Speaker 1 (08:32):
Yeah, that three percent growth in the second quarter, which
is April to June, is a total turnaround from the
half percent drop in economic growth in the first quarter
of the year. All this, yes, it sounds good, but
they're saying, this is a little wonky here, some of
the math because of the trade and the tariffs that
were going on the first part of the year, when

(08:52):
a lot of the companies actually stockpile. You remember, let
me bring all this stuff in now before tariff's hit,
and now we're just seeing kind of things balance back up.

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Got it? That makes sense? So right next up on
the run, Kamala Harris has ended all the speculation and
created some new speculation. She will not run for governor
of California. We know that. The former vice president released
a statement saying, for now, my leadership and public service
will not be an elected office for now.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
How long is the for now? How long does it
now last? Right now, this moment, I'm talking okay. Harris
said she would share more details about her own plans
in the months ahead. Noel Harris had been exploring a
run for California governor after losing her bid for president.
She notably skipped major political events in the state and
never reached out to labor unions or other groups for endorsement.

(09:42):
Many of you her decision as really unsurprising. This is
not a big deal, and they believe she was already
had her site set on national office. What could that
be and not for running for governor of California.

Speaker 2 (09:57):
Correct, So speculation now is that Harris may make her
third attempt running for president in twenty twenty eight, and
if she does, she would potentially be facing off against
fellow Democrat and the state's current governor, Gavin Newsom, who
was finishing his second term and cannot run for a
third term. And we've all been talking about Newsom. He's
certainly been raising his national profile recently, he launched his podcast.

(10:21):
He's visited the key primary state of South Carolina. That's
always a bell weather for people who are testing the
waters to see how they fare with folks who matter
in those very important early votes. So we shall see.

Speaker 1 (10:35):
He wasn't there on vacation.

Speaker 2 (10:37):
He was not. He wasn't trying to go to Charleston
or Paully's Island.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Now, So, yeah, you know, I had a weird and
only you will get it. I had a weird undercover
brother flashback from the movie you remember the black guy.
Everybody was anticipating, yes, was going to run for president
and they didn't. If you haven't seen that movie, I'm
not going to repeat the rest because it's ridiculous, but
I just had a thought. Everybody's anticipated her run for

(11:01):
president unless she surprised us all and came with a
different announcement.

Speaker 2 (11:04):
It's a national restaurant chain that we weren't expecting. Sorry,
that was a little bit of the plot to the movie.
Oh you should check the movie out. It's worth watching.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Okay, next level on the run. Here now thousands and
thousands of fans banging tribute to Ozzy Osborne in an
emotional funeral procession through the streets of his hometown of Birmingham, England.
Osbourne's hearst made its way through the city center and
fans were changing Ozzy Ozzy, Ozzy.

Speaker 2 (11:28):
Oi Oi Oi. The procession ended at the town's canal
bridge that was named in honor of Osborne's band, Black Sabbath,
which that band, of course was created in Birmingham back
in nineteen sixty eight, so this really was a coming
home procession and that's where at this canal bridge, Osbourne's
family stepped out of their vehicles and emerged with visible grief.

(11:51):
It was it was really moving to see, especially Sharon Osbourne.
The tears were flowing. All of the family members laid
flowers at the growing Tribune and makeshift memorials that have
been piling up there on that bridge. Even as the
Hearst and Osborne's family left for the private funeral, I
love this, the fans continued to pound to the beat
of Black Sabbath.

Speaker 1 (12:11):
It really is a sad so cool. If you get
a chance, you haven't, just take them away and see
some of the scenes. Just it's just it was moving.
It was cool to see. No matter what your fans
of this music or not, you just know who this
guy is and you see what he meant to so
many people. He had his final show right there in
his hometown, forty two thousand fans. It was just a
few weeks ago, July fifth. He died last week. No

(12:33):
official calls to death. He had been in poor health
to being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease six years ago. And
do I have right wrote he couldn't walk.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
Yeah, he actually was seated on a black throne. He
couldn't move or walk very well towards the end, but
he was there and they said his body was affected,
but his voice wasn't, so he was able to sing
some of those fan favorites, some of those favorite Black
Sabbath songs. So it was a beautiful way. I mean,
if you think about it. Obviously we weren't expecting his
death at seventy six, and yet to have that be

(13:02):
your final moment, how cool is that? All right? Next
up on the Run, a horrific scene in Danville, Virginia,
on Wednesday, when a city council member was set on fire.
Thirty eight year old Leave Vogler is recovering now in
a burn center in Lynchburg, while his attacker, twenty nine
year old shot see Michael Buck Hayes, is behind bars.

(13:24):
He is charged with attempted first degree murder and aggravated
malicious wounding.

Speaker 1 (13:29):
Investigators believe the attack stemmed from a personal matter and
had nothing to do with Vogler's politics or work as
a council member. Police say Hayes walked into Vogler's office,
confronted him, then doused him with a flammable liquid when
of Vogeler's coworkers said Vogler then ran out of his office,
heading for the front door. Hayes was chasing him. Vogler

(13:49):
was yelling for somebody to call nine one one ugh.

Speaker 2 (13:51):
Police say once they got outside that is when Hayes
set Vogler on fire. Hayes is being held without bond
and there is no known motive for his attack at
this time. Bogler is married with two kids. He served
on the Danville City Council for more than twelve years.
We don't have a specific word on how he's doing,
only that one of his coworkers said that while he
was he actually was airlifted to this burn center that

(14:13):
he was talking. But my goodness, what a horrific scene.

Speaker 1 (14:17):
All right, folks, we'll stay with us here on this
Thursday morning run when we come back and NFL Hall
of Famer and a former NBA All Star making headlines
for all the wrong reasons. Also, twenty five people on
a flight end up in the hospital because of turbulence.
And watch out for that energy drink you grab today.

(14:38):
It might be full of vodka. Yeah, it might be
fine for you, but think about kids. Let's continue now
on this Friday Eve run with NFL Hall of Famer
Shannon Sharp. He will not be returning to ESPN. Multiple

(14:59):
outlets now reporting that the cable network is parting ways
with Sharp, just weeks after he settled a sexual assault lawsuit.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
Sharp, who appeared on ESPN's debate show First Take, took
leave back in April when the fifty million dollar lawsuit
was filed against him by a woman who claimed he
raped her on two occasions while they were dating. Sharp
always denied the allegations, but did acknowledge a relationship with
the woman.

Speaker 1 (15:22):
Now the suit was settled for an unknown amount. Sharp
acknowledged in the latest episode of his podcast that he
wouldn't be returning to ESPN, but said he actually asked
them to wait to make the announcement. Wanted them to
wait until at least Monday, because this weekend is a
big deal. Robes the Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place.

(15:43):
His brother is being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
He said he didn't want to be a distraction. What
the news is out now.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Oh, that's unfortunate, all right. Next up on the Run,
former NBA All Star Gilbert Arenas is facing federal charges
that he operated an illegal high stakes gambling ring out
of a home in southern California. Arenas and five others
were arrested yesterday.

Speaker 1 (16:05):
He's facing several counts for operating an illegal gambling business,
which carries penalties of up to five years in prison.
The Justice Department accuses Arenas of renting out an Encino
mansion that served as a mini casino where he and
his co conspirators would hold high stakes poker games, complete
with cocktail waitresses and customized playing tables and blazoned with

(16:26):
Arena's Poker Club. That's not a good book.

Speaker 2 (16:30):
How to deny that you had a poker club when
you actually gave your poker club a name with your
name and.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
It's on the table. They released some of the videos
of the images of it.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Yeah, that's a hard denial there, all right. Among the
others arrested a man suspected of being a major player
in Israeli organized crime. Arena played. Arena's played eleven seasons
in the NBA, most of them with the Washington Wizards,
and was a three time All Star. Despite the name
emblazoned on his tables, et cetera. He pleaded not guilty

(17:03):
to the charges.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
It's really a wild story, all right. We're going to
continue now. On the run with significant turbulence on a
Delta flight has sent twenty five people to the hospital.
This happened last night. The plane was heading from Salt
Lake City to Amsterdam when it hit the unsteady air
about forty minutes into the flight.

Speaker 2 (17:20):
Listen to this. Data from a flight trekking site showed
that the plane climbed more than one thousand feet in
less than thirty seconds and then descended more than fourteen
hundred feet in the next thirty seconds. Can you imagine
that thousands of feet? Woo. The flight then had to
divert to Minneapolis, where it was greeted by the fire
Department and EMT workers medical personnel to assess the dozens

(17:43):
of people who were injured.

Speaker 1 (17:44):
HW Delta says we're grateful for the support of all
emergency responders involved, but did not give any details though
Delta about the condition of the hospitalized passengers. We all
deal with turbulence. I mean, we talked about all these
plane incidents. Sometimes issue just happens. Is this just nothing
anybody can do? It's turbulent air? What do you do?

Speaker 2 (18:02):
Yeah? I don't know that the pilot could have done
anything differently, And it took them a while to get
back to speck into a steady air and then to
get down to Minneapolis. I think it was an hour
to get down to Minneapolis. So imagine you've been injured
in this crazy turbulence and you still have to fly
for a significant amount of time before you get down
and get treated well.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
More. Reminded, keep the seat belts on, folks, even when
the seat belt light is off.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
It's so true. Two hundred and seventy five passengers, thirteen
crew members. We don't know exactly who was injured, whether
it was how many flight attendants versus passengers, but you're right,
people who had their seat belts on were probably the
ones who were Aokay, the good reminder, all right, for
the final leg of our run, Imagine you grab a
can of your favorite energy drink in the middle of
the day, maybe it work, maybe on your way to work.

(18:47):
That would be really bad if you were driving, but
instead of getting that boost of energy, you get drunk.

Speaker 1 (18:53):
I didn't think about the driving portion of this. Yes,
heads up to you folks who love Celsius energy drinks.
There's been a pretty big oops and some cans of
Celsius actually contain vodka, specifically high Noon Vodka Seltzer. High
Noon has issued a recall of some of its products

(19:14):
because of a mix up with packaging which resulted in
its vodka Seltzer being put in cans labeled as Celsius
energy drinks.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
How did this happen. We're not really sure exactly, but
somehow empty Celsius cans were mistakenly sent to High Noon,
which then filled them with their vodka product and shipped
them out. They're not saying exactly how much of the
stuff is out there, but you see why it's a
big problem. Yes, you might find it a welcome surprise
to get a vodka seltzer. All of a sudden, you
feel a little looser, a little lighter, a little happier. Wow,

(19:46):
this energy drink is amazing. But imagine if some kid
or your kid inadvertently consumed a vodka seltzer.

Speaker 1 (19:54):
There in lies the problem here. No sickness has been
associated with this mishap so far, but they did say
that cans of this stuff were shipped to Florida, Michigan,
New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Virginia, Wisconsin. Stuff's maybe
all over the place, but specifically Celsius astro Vibe Energy
drink astro Vibe energy drink that's a specific flavor and

(20:17):
it has certain lot numbers that's the one you need
to look out for. You have to go to their
website and figure it all out, because they're all these
lot numbers to figure out. But that's the one of note.
They said it will be in that and that canaloon.

Speaker 2 (20:29):
I'm curious how they figured it out.

Speaker 1 (20:31):
They said, because they there were empty cans of They
found empty cans of this, so they why do we
have these? And they started to turn to trace back,
like why would we have empty cans of celsius here?
And then they figured out, Oh, they sent us the
cans and we just filled them thinking they were the
cans for Hopefully nobody nothing comes of that, because if

(20:54):
something comes of that, they are going to get sued.
Nobody's business.

Speaker 2 (20:59):
It's yes, okay, so yes, please be aware everybody. All right.
We will end our Friday Eve run with our quote
of the day, as we do every day. This one
comes to us from Maya Angelou.

Speaker 1 (21:10):
You know I would have taken issue with it, but
because it's from her, I have to I can't take
issue with it. Success is liking yourself, liking what you do,
and liking how you do it. On your way to
work right now or at work right now. Whatever you're
doing right now, can you say you're in line with
all that? Do you have success because you like yourself,

(21:30):
You like what you do, and you like how you
do it.

Speaker 2 (21:33):
I thought it was so interesting because we all define
success in so many other ways, and it's never about
self love, it's never about confidence. It's always about how
much money you made, what something you achieved or accomplished,
and that was success. I climbed a mountain, I ran
a marathon, I got my dream job, whatever it is.
But I've never thought about it internally, and I think

(21:54):
that's such a beautiful way to look at it. Because
if you work on yourself and you like yourself, everything
else is better. Everyone else around you feels it. It's
a win for you, but it's a win for everyone,
all right.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
So take that with you and ask yourself maybe about
this today. Success is liking yourself, liking what you do,
and liking how do you do it? And that folks,
we always appreciate you running with us. I'm TJ.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
Holt and I'm Amy Robot. Have a great day. Everyone
will see you on the run tomorrow.
