great to catch up with her and chat about her
new album, Whirlwind that just came out, and of course
everything she's accomplished in the past few years.
Speaker 1 (00:38):
It take a.

Listen, Hey, Jessica Laney, how are you? I am good, Herry.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
It is so great chatting with you.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
I feel like, honestly, it was just September of twenty
nineteen when you walked into one on one seven the
Bowl with your guitar and yeah, I had your radio tour,
and it is just so great to see, like, everything
you've accomplished since then.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
It's crazy. It's really really crazy. And in the grands
game of things, I guess that's not that long ago, right,
you know, I know, it's wild. I feel very blessed.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
We always love radio tours.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I know a lot of artists may get you know,
tired from it, but I look forward to it for
reasons like that when we got to like witness you
and hear your stories and then within just a few years,
like watch you win all these award after award and
get all these number ones, Like it's just incredible.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
It's wild. It's you know, I've been in Nashville for
thirteen years trying to do this, and it seems like
the last three at least has just been Yeah, all
the hard work has started to play off, and you
ask and you shall receive. Sometimes sometimes it comes tenfold.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Well, whirlwind, congratulations.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
Obviously, been listening non stop this weekend, and we had
Kenny Chesney's concert in New England and I drove down
to Jillette listening to your album So Don't Don't.
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I love the Sorry Kenny, I love you.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Brothers, but I have tons of favorites, and I feel
like the one that really put me in the feels
right away was Broken Hearts Still Beat.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
I love that. I love that. That was a song
for me that yeah, I was like, Okay, I gotta
make sure that I've kind of opening up about some
things that maybe I haven't and and figuring out how
to be vulnerable, but also kind of showed that resilience
and triumph because I'm all about, you know, feeling things
but also pulling yourself up by the bootstraps and getting
(02:28):
on with it.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
Well, you did a great job at putting together this album.
I mean tons of favorites like I shared, And of
course I'm hoping your next number one will be the
one that we're playing so much on. iHeart country, hein
tight honey, thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (02:42):
And the next one we're gonna go with is four
by four by year.
Speaker 1 (02:46):
Yeah, love that one. So that is that about your relationship?
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Oh for sure? Sure? Yeah, yeah, he's he's getting all
the love songs right now, which is it's pretty cool
to be able to write a love song and mean it.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Yeah, I mean, yeah, you get something on this album,
a little bit of everything. I mean ring finger, like
come on, and that is so sassy on.
Speaker 2 (03:09):
My crazy side, we love and y'all know I have
one of those.
Speaker 1 (03:13):
Yeah, it is so good.
Speaker 3 (03:14):
We're going to Nashville in November to see the Patriots
play the Titans, so we'll finally be able to stop
at your Bell bottoms up bar, which wasn't all even
the last time we went there. So what's like one
meal or drink? We absolutely need to get on the menu.
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Well, I have a sweet tooth, so I love chocolate
chip cookie. So we have this like chocolate chocolate chip
skillet cookie with a reasty cup in the middle of
it with ice cream, and it's Yeah, if you're if
you're trying to get in a sugar coma, go ahead
and do that.
Speaker 1 (03:47):
We definitely are.
Speaker 3 (03:48):
So we're really excited for Yellowstone to return. But are
we going to see you on any more specials?
Speaker 1 (03:53):
Because the Graceland Christmas.
Speaker 3 (03:55):
Special, I still have that saved on my TV and
I kind of watch it and stop.
Speaker 2 (04:01):
That was one of the coolest shows I've been a
part of. I mean, and to just being able to
like be there and I mean you could feel the
presence of ail Us. It's really crazy. It's a it
was very special to be a part of something like that.
So I don't I don't know what's coming up, but
the opportunities are endless.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, I hope, I hope that happens again. So with
back to school season here, do you have any messages
for the kids that are headed back to school, like
work hard, study hard, or what is something like that
motivated you during your school years.
Speaker 2 (04:32):
My saying that I always say is if you're going
to be a dreamer, you better be a doer. And
I stand firm on that. But also I want the
kids to remember that you gotta be kind to each
other and uh and treat people the way that you
want to be treated, and stand up for yourself, stand
up for others, and be respectful to your teacher. And yeah,
(04:54):
I think I say it.
Speaker 3 (04:55):
Yes, so important. Thank you for sharing that. And I
did get a question from one listener. Since you know
you have the best hat collection, do you have a.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Favorite favorite hat? That's hard? That's hard? Now I will
show you. Yeah, we started working with Charlie one Horse
a while back and we've got our own little line
that we've done with them. And it's so cool to
see people in the crowd wearing like a matching hat
as me. I'll be like playing a show when I
look down there and we're matching. It's the cutest thing ever.
(05:27):
But I don't know. There's maybe the hat that I
wore in the four by four U music video. It's
kind of like my go to and it's got like
a barbed wire hat band on it. I just love it.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
Yeah, I'm hoping to get a custom hat sooner than leader.
Maybe the next time I'm in Nashville. So before I
let you go, I always love finding note. What's one
message that someone in the industry may have shared with
you early on in your career that has always stuck
with you.
Speaker 2 (05:57):
Yeah. Jenny Sealey, who I saw at the Grand O
Opry for the first time when I was nine. She
stopped by my dressing room, probably about two years ago,
and she told me. She said, I want you to
just remember something. She said when you walk out there
on that stage. This has nothing to do with you,
It has everything to do with everybody else, and just
(06:19):
make them feel something.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
Oh that is so sweet. Well, we love you so
much in New England. It's so great to see everything
you have accomplished. The new album, like I said, has
been on repeat. It is just so great. And the
next time we see you in New England. Not sure
when that's going to be yet, but would you be
eating clam chowder or lobster?
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Ooh, I could do some clam chowder. How about both?
That's hard for me and I just y'all have the
best food. I'll tell you that, hands down.
Speaker 3 (06:48):
Well, the next time you are in New England. We'll
definitely grab some seafood. Lenie Wilson, it's always so great
chatting with you.
Speaker 1 (06:55):
Have a great day.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Thank you friend,
