Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Sweys, I'm so glad you enjoy be Et Media
House Part one.
Speaker 2 (00:03):
But there is more. We are about to drop part two.
There are so many gyms drops, and I hope you
enjoy it. Kim's family.
Speaker 1 (00:11):
We are at the Beet Media House for the twenty
fifth BET Awards and I have with me right now
the iconic, the beautiful Angie Martinez.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Hey, sweet, nothing much. I'm so happy to have you
on the couch now I get to be in this sign. Yes,
last time you was on Nasade, I was in the
hot seat.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
So you have your podcast in real life at Agie Martinez.
What has been something for me? Because I know for
me with doing my podcast, I've learned things about myself
real it's almost therapeutic.
Speaker 2 (00:38):
Yeah for sure. Yeah. How will it been for you?
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Because it forces you to frame the way you think
about things? Yes, because you gotta have something to say
about the thing. It forces you to be like, how
do I really feel about this right as you're talking
about it? For me too, I talk less about my
personal stuff on the radio. Radio is like about you know,
what's trending topic and what artists are doing and music
and the plot guess is like you know, we're talking
(01:01):
about real things, yes, real like it's just light bulbs
and ways that we got to the other side of things,
just the things we learned and real life. Yeah, and
so that requires me to to be honest about things
and so yeah, definitely.
Speaker 2 (01:18):
Yeah, interesting, it's interesting. It is where else is. Yes,
we're all about positivity here. Keep it positive. By the way,
I told you already this. I love the name of
this probably thank you. It was funny.
Speaker 1 (01:31):
I was trying to change it at one point and
was like, no, you cannot feel good.
Speaker 2 (01:35):
I hear the name. I know exactly where I stand.
I feel comfortable sitting with you.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
I know, you know, there's no like if somebody didn't
know the platform on the pod, that.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
Name lets you know out the gate with the yes yes.
Speaker 1 (01:48):
How have you been able to keep it positive in
an industry that has been so negative and chaotic?
Speaker 2 (01:52):
A sometimes and sometimes it's really hard? Yeah, I don't
know that.
Speaker 3 (01:56):
My whole career, I've always I definitely have fell victim
to like getting hot headed or upset about something or
maybe react overly reactive to things.
Speaker 2 (02:06):
But that never feels good, right, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
It's ultimately being positive and trying to take the high
road and and.
Speaker 2 (02:16):
Do right by people, and that just feels better. Yeah.
So I just tried to do that as much as
I can. I love that. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (02:25):
Sometimes people get under your skin. Yes, but you know
life is short, man. You do bad things, bad things happen.
I really believe a karma I have you know, I
believe a god him off in any way?
Speaker 4 (02:39):
Same, Yes, absolutely, Like I'm one of those people to
like if I were to do something that was not
positive and not the right thing to do, I would
immediately feel the blowback of that.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
Definitely. I feel you. I'm the same way. Immediately, I
could get sick.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
I could just say something's gonna happen, media a little
back because I know better, right, you know what I'm saying,
do something I wasn't supposed to do.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
I immediate it's gonna hit me in Yeah, I'm with
you on that. Just it's easier to do the right thing. Yeah, No,
for sure. What's up?
Speaker 1 (03:15):
Kids, family? I have someone with me that we all
know because she's already been on the sofa, the one,
the only le Vassie.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
What's up? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:26):
So I would love to ask you we always talk
about positivity here on Keep It Positive Sweeping.
Speaker 2 (03:30):
What is one way that you've kept it positive during
the season.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
M One way I've kept it positive during the season
is I've started to work out.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Okay, I've now become a pilates girly. Pilates is everything, girl, and.
Speaker 5 (03:44):
It's become a big part of you know, my weekly
you know, day to day things that kind of keep
me grounded and you know, keep me taking care of
my temple, you know. So that's been a huge addition,
you know, to my day to day.
Speaker 2 (03:56):
I love that. I love that. Before you get out
of here, I want to play a quick game of
this or that. Okay you ready? All right? Pray first
or journal first? Pray audiobook or paperback paperback? Need too.
I love the smell of paper. We were just talking
about this. I love the smell of paper.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
It's something about like just flipping the pages and highlighting. Yes, yeah,
I'm the girl too. Riseing car in silence or ride
with music blasting.
Speaker 5 (04:20):
You know, I used to be silenced, but I just
got a new car and I love the South speakers.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
Listen like I don't listen to the album.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
Yeah car, you gotta ride to it listen, No, like
it's how I do music. I have to get in
the car and see how it feels when I'm riding. Yes,
and I gotta blast it as a lot as it
can go.
Speaker 2 (04:35):
I love that. Are you the first to arrive or
the last to leave? Probably first to arrive in first leave? Yes,
that's me. I'm like, I'm going and get there so
I can get out. I love that. All right, let
it slide or we ride it down. I know, for me,
(04:56):
let this lost. So I don't.
Speaker 5 (04:58):
Believe in dot in the I ain't at all actually right,
I believe in I know this is a this or that. Right,
It's like I believe in grace, but I'm not about
to die for you. So it's kind of like I'm
like somewhere in the middle, right. I love it positive
Patty or negative Nancy?
Speaker 2 (05:15):
Positive? I know this one, yes, because we would keep
it positive, sweetie. Hello, Oh my gosh, y'all.
Speaker 1 (05:22):
I first laid eyes on this woman on Instagram, was
instantly obsessed. Then I got to meet her and get
to know her. The beautiful kaiser Hi, gorgeous.
Speaker 6 (05:33):
I'm so excited to be here.
Speaker 1 (05:35):
I'm so excited when I saw you coming in, I
was like, we gotta get her on the couch.
Speaker 2 (05:40):
How are you feeling? I'm good.
Speaker 6 (05:41):
You know, this is new territory for me, you know,
new people, new environments, but definitely feel like God placed
me here and to be surrounded around people like you
is just more fulfilling it.
Speaker 2 (05:53):
I love that.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
I love that you have a personal relationship with God.
I'm really big on faith and I'm really big on
talking about it here and keep it positive.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Sweet. How has God guided you through.
Speaker 1 (06:02):
Like even this transition where you're like you're embarking on
different territories.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
How has that journey been with him?
Speaker 7 (06:07):
Yeah?
Speaker 6 (06:08):
I mean He's the only reason why I'm on this journey,
to be honest, if it were to leave it up
to me, Lord knows, I would probably be keeping myself
one dimensional. Being able to see the gifts that He
has given me and to utilize him. I think that's
the gift that I am able to give back to him.
Speaker 2 (06:24):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
I love it, and I pray that God continues to
blow your mind. You are so deserving guys as well.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
See him all on you. Thank you so much. Same same.
Speaker 1 (06:34):
I'm really big on mental health and so are you,
And how has I know, like, probably within the past
four or five years, mental health has become really big
in our community. Whereas we were just kind of trained
to like push things aside and keep pushing. How have
you been able to find those moments to really deal
with your mental health?
Speaker 6 (06:53):
Yeah, I think me making the ultimate decision when I
was at the height of my career so young. Yeah,
and when I was a rookie coming in. You know,
I was a top five pick and I had chose
to walk away from the game even though I had
spent my whole life working up to this moment, and
it didn't feel what I thought it would be because
of all the trauma that I've endured, things just trying
(07:14):
to sweep underneath the rug to go play the games.
You know, I had just lost my father right before
I got drafted in the middle of the season. It
showed up the next day, kept playing like just things
that behind closed doors, people didn't know about it. And
when I saw myself on a billboard and when I
would come home, I realized I was living a double lifestyle.
And that's when I realized, I'm like, Okay, I'm gonna
(07:35):
choose me instead of choosing the world, and this is
when I started learning about mental health. Now it is
part of my boundaries. I need my solitude. I need
to have time with myself. I need to recharge and
check in Lorens. I'm Leo Codd, So I appreciate my
loane space. But it's some matters that I am the
(07:56):
matter I can be for others around me.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
That is so true. That is so I agree with
you wholeheartedly, and with none.
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Other than twenty time Grammy Award winning my brother Kirk Franklin.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
What's going on? Christ Due?
Speaker 8 (08:14):
That's your theme music?
Speaker 2 (08:15):
That's it.
Speaker 1 (08:16):
We're gonna keep that sound like that's gonna be at
the beginning of season eight.
Speaker 8 (08:19):
That's gonna be horrible. Good to see you, queen, you too.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Love How you feeling good? Good?
Speaker 1 (08:24):
It's always good to see you. You always have the
best energy. How you feeling today?
Speaker 8 (08:27):
I'm good.
Speaker 9 (08:28):
I got up them Ac cardio this morning, so my
anxiety levels are down right right right.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
You have a new single you.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
I feel like, do you live in the studio because
you stay on top of it. You're always coming out
with new music, You're always collaborating. I love you got
a new single, Yeah, let's talk. I saw you in
the car playing in for Taybor. That was so cute.
Speaker 2 (08:47):
Thank you.
Speaker 8 (08:48):
Yes, called do it again.
Speaker 9 (08:49):
And you know, for people to have spiritual amnesia, it's
so easy to forget what God did because you come
up to another problem and it's like in a panic,
a panic, and so I'm like, God is like, bro,
didn't you just see me pull up the last situation?
Speaker 2 (09:03):
Yeah, but you know, our.
Speaker 9 (09:05):
Fears won't allow us to hold on to those memories.
And so hopefully this song does the job of reminding us.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Yeah, and if he did it before, he'll do it again.
He'll do it again, and he will. That is so
good because we do get spiritual amesia. That's real and
we all do. Oh my goodness, we all do. I
do we all do.
Speaker 2 (09:24):
That's so good.
Speaker 1 (09:24):
I love that I had to use that because I
know for me, y'all definitely like as soon as something
crazy happens, my first instinct is a panic, like, oh, guys,
not remembering how many times he's brought you out.
Speaker 9 (09:34):
And you got a history where the men will still
do it so and what's so beautiful though, is that
he don't throw us away because of.
Speaker 2 (09:40):
That I'm on now. He does not. He does not.
Speaker 1 (09:46):
I have with me a woman that is near and
dear to my heart, the one and only Miss Kimberly Page.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
How are you doing? So excited for you to be here?
And you look amazing and.
Speaker 1 (09:58):
You you too serious like the fashions. You are like
the epitome of class. No seriously, yes, no, you are
like I just wish I could be as lady like
as you please, because you walk in and it's like
like your feet don't test.
Speaker 2 (10:12):
The ground, like it's an inner spirit. I love it.
It starts from with it. I love it. No, that
is yes, you do it very well. Thank you. I'm
going to get there. I'm working on it. I really
get in this stage my life.
Speaker 1 (10:23):
I'm working on being more lady like and exuding my
soft girl era and softness.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
So I'm trying to get there. You're there, but a.
Speaker 1 (10:31):
Lot of people do not know that you are literally
the heartbeat behind everything that happens at BT. You so
into so many people, a lot of things that you
see happening that are big. You're the person that's signing
off saying yes, let's support them. How did you come
to be the campage that everyone knows now.
Speaker 2 (10:48):
You know, I think for me, I've always been.
Speaker 10 (10:52):
I have a spirit of service that makes sense, and
so as I'm thinking about anything, whether it's you know, work,
my family, my friends, my team, I try to come
and center from that that space of service. And I
think when you're willing to serve, great leaders have to
be servers.
Speaker 11 (11:08):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:09):
I love that. This next guest, y'all have seen him
on the kip sofa.
Speaker 1 (11:15):
He is my friend, my brother. I love him so
so much. He hit me day he said, asis you
at that media house. I said, yeah, he said, I'm
pulling up and he is here.
Speaker 8 (11:25):
Major, what's happening. It's so good to see you in
your light.
Speaker 2 (11:29):
Thank you.
Speaker 8 (11:30):
You are light.
Speaker 7 (11:31):
But it's good to see you spotlighted and you have
a whole corner. You don't get corners in the media
house unless you're doing something.
Speaker 2 (11:38):
Somebody else said the same.
Speaker 8 (11:39):
I want to be clear. This is called favor.
Speaker 7 (11:42):
It's called it's called God said now is your time,
and you're showing up and showing up.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
For I love you, Thank you so much. Let's talk
about everything you have going on. I prayed for you
number one two weeks.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
In a row.
Speaker 7 (11:54):
That's right, that's right, Row, that's my new new that's
my new news, and I'm super it sited. So I
Prayed for You just went number one on Billboard. A
gospel airplay more specifically, Why I Love You went platinum,
and the thing as an independent artist who's mama named
a major, the journey is very unpredictable, and oftentimes the
(12:19):
things that you expect to happen happen out of order.
And it's kind of wild, but out of order from
how I planned it. You know what they say, give
God your plans and you make laugh. Yeah, So it's
crazy that you know. Years later, I get my first
ever number one on Billboard with the song about Prayer,
(12:41):
and you know, to talk about that song, Crystal. It
came by way of a text message that Chadwick Boseman
sent me. He said, at ten forty five Eastern Standard
time on April fourth, twenty twenty, let's collectively pray for
the hope of the world because people are drowning in
a sea of hopelessness. Yes, from their mindset on how
(13:02):
to heal, how to recover from COVID nineteen, the civil
unrest in the land, And I didn't know that my
brother would be passing four months later. But my thing
is if he had the audacity to hope for the
world while he was going through his own things, I
think I can lock in on that.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
Yeah, that's beautiful, But no, I am so proud of you.
You have been very open about the ups and downs
of this industry or the impact that has had on
your life.
Speaker 2 (13:30):
Absolutely, and you work so hard and you want.
Speaker 1 (13:32):
To be noticed and you want to be awarded for
your good works. So and He's like, you were almost
there so many times. And now it's like God is like, iet, Yo,
you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 7 (13:43):
You know what it feels like when you've been on
this journey of hoping and wishing and believing and sacrificing
and giving, and when you're in a season.
Speaker 8 (13:52):
As you are, it's a perpetual rollout.
Speaker 7 (13:55):
Only a god like our God can plan a rollout
like that. But it's like, man, did the church say Amen? Yeah,
y'all know what I'm talking about. Literally, it has been perpetual.
I saw you, I've had you, I got you.
Speaker 11 (14:13):
Yes.
Speaker 7 (14:14):
Berkeley College of Music, my alma mater, just inducted me
into the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 12 (14:20):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (14:20):
I got the number one for two weeks in a row. Uh,
there's just so many things. Tammeron hall. I do her
one one one show, and then she's like, can we
bring you back next month? I'm like, yes, yes, And
I stayed at the hotel that I knew you did that.
I said, I know what hotel is. I ain't gonna
tell you.
Speaker 8 (14:40):
We don't know hotel.
Speaker 13 (14:42):
You know.
Speaker 1 (14:43):
That was my first time staying there because what I
usually said it was there was some tech conference going.
Speaker 8 (14:47):
On, but that one that it hits it.
Speaker 2 (14:49):
Oh yes, and they upgrade me to this, like like
I got a little living room and.
Speaker 8 (14:54):
A bedroom set a little corner.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
Yeah that if you weren't where you open up the.
Speaker 8 (14:58):
Hudson, you might have had my.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Right you Like that sounds very familiar. That thing was nice.
Speaker 8 (15:04):
This is nice, But it's the fun thing.
Speaker 7 (15:08):
The beautiful thing is when we take a beat and
just let God be God, he shows us that he's
the master curator of answered prayers, of blessings, of I
see you, I got you.
Speaker 8 (15:25):
When I say yes, nobody can say no.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
No.
Speaker 7 (15:29):
That's what we're living with and that's what we're living in.
So I'm excited about it.
Speaker 1 (15:32):
I am so excited for you. You deserve everything. When I
say I love you, I truly love you. I'm always
rooting for you. Have a heart of goal.
Speaker 8 (15:40):
Thank you so much as do you and I enjoy
seeing you win.
Speaker 7 (15:44):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (15:44):
Yeah, what's up, y'all? Kissing only day two at the
BT Media House and I'm sitting here with my good sister,
Shemiah Morton. What's up boo, hey, best friends. You know,
I'm excited to hang out with the kids family. Anytime
I get advitation come hang out with y'all, I am
jetting it on. We love you, like you oh much,
(16:05):
so much so. The last time we talked, you had
just gotten your peach. Yes, season had not dropped yet.
So how is that going now? On the Real House Lives,
I learned, Oh my goodness, when I tell you, there
have been such high highs and low lows. It's been insane.
I mean I started out it was amazing, and you know,
I was.
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Like, oh, we love Samia.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
And then I was in the hot seat for like
three weeks. They're like, oh, she's forced slapdog, she's you know,
all these things, and I'm like, oh, please, let's give
me a break people. Yeah, it's when I say they
were giving it to me, but what it It gave
me a thick skin there you go, yeah, like you know,
it made me like I gotta say out the comments.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
But now I'm back in a good place with our fans.
I love it. I love that. Such your wave, such
an emotional rollercoaster. We just finished shooting our reunion.
Speaker 1 (16:53):
Oh wow, that's always which had me with such anxiety.
It's crazy because you never know what's gonna happen. You
never know what it's gonna happen, you never know who's
gonna come for you. I also have to recap sixteen
seventeen episodes have an entire year in one day, and
it's a very long day.
Speaker 2 (17:10):
I want to say, it's like a twelve hour shoot.
Oh wow. Yeah, that's the costing.
Speaker 1 (17:14):
It's exhausting, and even leading up to it, it's just
emotionally training because you're like, you lived some dark moments
on TV, then you have to watch them and yeah,
the second time you see it union, it's the third
time that you relive it, and so it's like reliving
something over and over again. It's just overwhelming at times,
but I'm so happy I survived it. I survived my
first A feature to thank you. So when people I
(17:38):
started out the seasons in it was sweet sixteen, Sweet sixteen.
I'm excited Sweet sixteen, and I'm.
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Ending this season sad. It's a bittersweet sixteen.
Speaker 10 (17:44):
You know.
Speaker 1 (17:45):
It had its bitter moments and it's had it's had
its sweet moments. But I would not change any of
it happened, No regret.
Speaker 2 (17:51):
Good, That's all that matters.
Speaker 1 (17:55):
It's christernity Hazlet and I have with me the legendary Salt. Hey,
how are you great? I'm ray I'm fingerling out inside
because I can't believe you're sitting here.
Speaker 2 (18:07):
Thank you. Congrats to you on all your things. I
think you're doing all the things. I'm loving it. Keeping
it positive. Oh, thank you, Vie. You ain't the positive,
that's right.
Speaker 8 (18:17):
I was allowed.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
So this is the thirty fifth year anniversary of your
album Black Magic. How does that feel to thirty five years?
Speaker 4 (18:24):
Yeah?
Speaker 11 (18:25):
No one.
Speaker 2 (18:26):
We always say salt and pepper, but fun, fashion and
femininity to have parted.
Speaker 14 (18:31):
We were authentically ourselves and I feel like that's why
we lasted this long. We also made timeless music YEP,
So it feels. Did I think it would be to
this level still all these years later.
Speaker 2 (18:44):
No, it definitely.
Speaker 14 (18:45):
I appreciate it. It's kind of surreal it. You know,
the assault in this Sheryl right.
Speaker 2 (18:52):
Yeah, yelling it out here in the streets, right, It's amazing.
She's amazing. She is amazing. I love that. And you
also have some solo music, can you? That's what you're
working on.
Speaker 14 (19:00):
So I'm working on some personal music just about my journey.
Just sharing with the ladies and things that I've been
through is very personal, kind of wi pimonial and also fun,
just expressing myself as an artist.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
Still, that's amazing. That is what we do. It has
what resonates, and that's what and we will want the music.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Yes, the dude, and they wanted to hear your stories
because that's how they connect with you. Yeah, I love
that for you. And I am so excited about the
Wars thing. I cannot wait to see rock the States.
You're gonna kill it, and congratulations on Everything's gonna be
a moment.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
It will be. You're welcome, Thank you so much.
Speaker 1 (19:38):
And I have with me none other than the director
of Zatima. You may see me on that He is
the writer of the latest season of Sisters. He also
has a short film that's going to be presented at
many film festivals, starting with ABFF this coming up week,
The Old Gray Mayor, starring daval Ellis and.
Speaker 11 (19:56):
Bro and ty Lepley Charnelle short of Oh my Gosh, Yes, yes, yes,
people know her as Kimberle reach her.
Speaker 8 (20:05):
Yeah yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (20:07):
So so good.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
So let's get into it. We also have a film
coming out as we assume that we're gonna make.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Together, called A Love.
Speaker 1 (20:12):
Give y'all that little sneak tip right there, So talk
to me. Tell me what you are most excited about
in this season of your life. Everything has literally skyrocketed.
Speaker 8 (20:21):
I love, I love, Yeah, because A love is I know.
Speaker 11 (20:25):
So the thing is, I've always had to make films
with what I had, not what I've wanted. So, like
you know, like I saw you on as the team,
I saw the things that you do. I saw what
you've done on film, and honestly, some of the things
that people you guys get to see aren't the things
that that's not all the shots. So I get the
(20:47):
opportunity to see her in a light to where y'all
it might not make that particular cut to where she cries,
she's happy, she said, and all of that, and I
saw something in her that made me want to bring
her into a part. So now I had the opportunity
to choose the actress that I want, and we built
such a great relationship. This will be the first time
that I'm working with somebody one that I love and
in our in our respect, and we get to do
(21:09):
this dance. I'm really really excited to do this because
now I can show who Courtney is versus kind of
like pulling tooth and nail trying to make money for
this and adjusting.
Speaker 8 (21:19):
I don't have to adjust, So yeah, now they get
to really really see it.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
So I'm excited for it, and I'm excited for them
to see who Crystal is as an actor because I
think this will be the first time I'm actually able
to like really like take time and cultivate.
Speaker 8 (21:32):
Absolutely a character. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 11 (21:35):
This ain't the Crystal that y'all are used to sing.
Just to be very clear, this ain't the same Crystal.
So and I guarante I'm not doing it now because
we're gonna tell them. I'm gonna end up talking about something.
We're gonna spoil it. You're talking about the next episode. Yah, yeah, yeah,
you know what I'm saying. No, No, it's gonna be
great now. But that's my that's what I'm excited about
this year.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
You know you, And I'm proud of you. Thank you then,
so proud of you and everything that you're doing. It's
is like we just met a year ago. Yeah up,
you're out of this world. Yeah nah, it's it's up.
Speaker 11 (22:05):
And again, like I think I do give a lot
of credit to you of of Shepherd shepherding me into
what the Tiler period universe was going to be like
and all of this ship like like this ain't you know?
Speaker 8 (22:19):
Don't you know what I'm saying. But just hit me,
checking on me, making sure.
Speaker 11 (22:23):
That I'm good. The one thing that you guys need
in this in this industry, especially when you're entering it,
it's somebody that's a veteran into it that can tell
you what corners to turn, what corners and who to
stay away from.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
You know what I'm saying. So you've definitely been there
for I always keep it real.
Speaker 11 (22:38):
Yeah yeah yeah yeah, And gonna ain't gonna call you
and tell you, hey, this this hell, I don't, I don't.
Speaker 8 (22:44):
I don't know about this one. I don't know about
this one.
Speaker 1 (22:46):
You know what I love about you is that you
take you take my advice but hear me either if
you you can throw it away or you can keep it,
but you hear me absolutely.
Speaker 8 (22:54):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I want to be better man, Like I.
Speaker 1 (22:57):
Want you to be the best, and like I'm gonna
let you know arouse, I know what you're capable of
where you.
Speaker 11 (23:01):
Are great friends. Ain't people that just tell you you
good at everything? This one's gonna be like, I don't
know about that shit, bro, don't I don't know if
you should.
Speaker 8 (23:10):
Yeah, So you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
It's good to have you in my corner always.
Speaker 4 (23:13):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
I appreciate you and I have with me none other
than l Russell your How are you feeling, I'm well,
I feel great.
Speaker 1 (23:24):
I love talking about ownership. What is the impact of
ownership and what does it mean to you?
Speaker 15 (23:28):
You don't have the ability to fully execute your vision
if you don't own it, because there's always somebody that
could tell you no. And sometimes your vision is just
based on how you feel. You don't have data or
anything to prove it. It's just like, I want to
do this because this is what feels good to me.
And uh, it's hard to do that when you don't
have control or rain over over what you creating, what
(23:51):
you do. So our ownership just it means a lot
because it just allows you to move from your heart.
Speaker 8 (23:57):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
I love it.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
It's your christ her name Hazlet And right now I
have with me Ki Ki Elaine ki Ki.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
What's up, beautiful man. I'm so happy to be here. Yes,
is this your first BT award?
Speaker 11 (24:11):
It is?
Speaker 2 (24:12):
How exciting is that? It's amazing? Yes, I love us.
Speaker 12 (24:16):
I love celebrating us. So when I can be in
that room, yeah, I'm most happy. What has been like
some of the lessons that you learned during this time?
Speaker 6 (24:25):
You know.
Speaker 12 (24:25):
The first thing that popped in my head was something
that Regina King said to me. It was actually she
was presenting the Essence Black Women in Hollywood Award to
Years and I got up on a stage and she
knows me so well, she could tell I was freaking out,
and she just said, breathe.
Speaker 2 (24:41):
Oh, she just said breathing. Yeah, Because you know, we
get to going and going and going, and it.
Speaker 16 (24:46):
Is we forget.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
I was at a retreat and the lady who was
doing like our session, she said, we live in a
world of shallow breathers and we don't even realize we
don't take deep breaths because we're like you said, we're
just going going.
Speaker 12 (25:00):
Yeah, that's so important to just breathe. Yeah, better said there.
Everything else can grow, but it always starts with your Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:08):
I love that. And I have one of my favorite people.
He is so funny. I love him on Instagram. This
is my Actually we met at a Hawks gang. I
don't know if you remember. She kind of looked at
me like you I know who you are.
Speaker 1 (25:19):
Okay, because you kind of looked me like you didn't
know if I was like, it's like sometimes it's like
it's just it's just like in shock.
Speaker 2 (25:25):
I'm still in shocked to be able to be in
rooms with you know, great people. I feel, you know,
I still pinched myself.
Speaker 1 (25:30):
I was on the plane the other day and the lady,
her daughter recognized me and she said next to me,
and she goes, are you famous?
Speaker 2 (25:35):
And I'm like it hasn't really sunk in yeah, because
it's like.
Speaker 17 (25:39):
I'm just crystal, like you can like, you know, I
work that popause. Imagine you at Papa's like what she's
doing here? That's where you know, you just look famous.
Somebody asked, you're so sweet, work up?
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Yeah terming.
Speaker 8 (25:50):
Yeah, I use that line on a lot of people.
Speaker 2 (25:53):
It works, it works. You are so funny. So what
brought you to be to this weekend?
Speaker 8 (26:02):
The airplane?
Speaker 2 (26:03):
All stupid? That's the car dad, I don't even need
to carry.
Speaker 17 (26:09):
But you know what, I start to learn that just
being in a room with people and leaving energy and
moments of more important.
Speaker 6 (26:17):
Yeah.
Speaker 17 (26:18):
You know, when you when you come in your era
and you build your career, sometimes you just think it's
about your team setting things up, and also sometimes you
think it's about money.
Speaker 2 (26:29):
But sometimes it is better to meet people of real life.
Speaker 17 (26:31):
And just lead moments with them and you never know
who you're running to and like start a relationship and
then y'all can start, you know, and bring something to and.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
Bill together from there.
Speaker 8 (26:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
I love that.
Speaker 8 (26:40):
I love this.
Speaker 2 (26:40):
So you have your father as well?
Speaker 1 (26:42):
Yeah, and you're so beautiful than you yes, oh my god, gorgeous.
What is it like balancing your life and then also
being a father.
Speaker 8 (26:51):
It's just being there for like being something that you
never had. Monday dude was like he was. He was
like that guy.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
He was a drug dealing and stuff.
Speaker 17 (26:58):
So with him being in and out and when he
got like when he got killed, it just showed me
to be more about for my kids because I knew
how I was not to have a father, so I
won't be there for my kids. And I'm also a
good stepdaddy. So ladies, if you have any problems with
your baby daddy, I can't. I'm the guy that come
to I'd be doing matching pictures and stuff with the kids.
(27:22):
I really don't like when I talk to girls I
got kids, I want their baby daddy be out the
way because.
Speaker 8 (27:25):
I'd be like, like, I'm trying to be the daddy.
Speaker 17 (27:27):
I know I ain't got fighting nobody. No we two
girl up that yeah yeah, no one wants stepdaddy. Yeah
you remember that song Stepdaddy? Yeah yeah that's yeah, that's you.
Yeah that's your flyers too. I like how you care
yourself and you're very consistent.
Speaker 2 (27:45):
Thank you. It's like you just I appreciate that. That
means a lot of coming you because I really admire
your word. No, so what if somebody has say, what's
another answer you will say? If someone said, yeah, say
the same thing. Thank you? Oh okay, good? Yeah, this
(28:08):
is crazy?
Speaker 8 (28:09):
Oh wow, thank you?
Speaker 7 (28:11):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (28:13):
And I have with me one of my favorite people
growing up, y'all. I just love her. When I saw her,
I was like, we have to interview her, the one
and only Maya. How are you?
Speaker 6 (28:25):
So?
Speaker 2 (28:25):
Are you good?
Speaker 13 (28:27):
Like?
Speaker 2 (28:27):
You literally had not aged? Thank you, you have not.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
We have all aged and gracefully, honey. So what is
it like to continue to work on your crafts?
Speaker 13 (28:37):
I love touring, you know, I stay on the road.
I'm an independent artist. I've been just producing a lot
of projects since the end of two thousand and seven
independently through my own label, and it's been a wonderful
educational journey, I bet, and also empowering and then creatively
very fun. So Give It to You comes out June tenth,
(29:00):
and it is basically a nod and a salute to
all the music that I.
Speaker 2 (29:04):
Grew up to in my living room.
Speaker 13 (29:06):
It feels like my living room.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
When I was a kid.
Speaker 12 (29:08):
Oh.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
I love the funk of the eighties.
Speaker 13 (29:10):
The late seventies, vibes, Prince Jam and Lewis the Time,
Mary Jane Girls, Patrice Russian, all that and barbecue music.
We're hitting the summer very soon, so it's a summer record.
Roller Skates I parted.
Speaker 2 (29:25):
Yes, Oh, I need that, need that. You are also
big on philanthropy. What does community mean to you? What
does it mean to give back? Yeah?
Speaker 13 (29:33):
We Community to me means a reflection of self. You know,
we all had someone to hold our hands.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (29:40):
We all came into this world pretty much incapacitated, without
the ability to even hold our heads up.
Speaker 2 (29:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 13 (29:47):
Then we crawl and then we stand, and then we walk,
and then we run. And so to be that light
for someone or at least involve yourself, it makes life
worth living. And then it's very rewarding to be able
to affect one's life for the positive and elevate because
everyone has a purpose, each and every one of us.
And the simplest thing is your gift and we have
(30:10):
many of those. Yes, So we all come from a
place of needing community, and it's also culturally a part
of us that sometimes society interferes with. And that's the
most functional part of life.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
When you are aligned with.
Speaker 13 (30:26):
Your community or you create that for others and be
a light in this world that goes so far beyond
what you could even imagine. For sure, just a conversation
can change somebody's trajectory.
Speaker 2 (30:39):
No, So that's what this podcast, Keep It Positive Sweety
has been about.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
And like, I didn't want to do it at first
because I'm private, and I was like, but in order
to do it, you kind of have to open up
about who you really are, and just talking about it
has built.
Speaker 2 (30:53):
A community of healings and growth has.
Speaker 1 (30:56):
Just been beautiful. So you are absolutely spot on with that. Yeah, yeah,
kid's family. You guys have seen this next guest, you
have bingelized his new show on Netflix Forever, the one
and only Michael Cooper Junior.
Speaker 2 (31:11):
How are you doing.
Speaker 8 (31:12):
I'm good, I'm good.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
Thanks for having me in very thank you.
Speaker 1 (31:16):
Like I literally lit up when you walked up. I
read now, I was like, I looked up and you
were there. Let me just I'm gota give your flowers
right now. You were absolutely phenomenal forever. The way you
captured your character justin it just I don't know, it
was something about you. The way you just he has
a form of adah actually is the way you embody
(31:36):
that Oh my.
Speaker 2 (31:37):
God, it was so subtle, but like you could it. Oh,
it was so good.
Speaker 1 (31:42):
Yes, from one access to another, I was like, he
really did the character breakdown and really figured out how
to develop this character.
Speaker 8 (31:48):
You did it so well, thank you.
Speaker 16 (31:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
So talk about like I want to know, like what
was that process of bringing Justin to life?
Speaker 10 (31:54):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (31:55):
I mean it really starts with the writing.
Speaker 18 (31:57):
So when I got the script, you know, Mars very
specific with her writing, which is so beautiful. Yes, and
I just remember reading it. He has one foot in confidence,
the other foot of insecurity. You know, he goes to
a speech therapist, and he has ady AHD all these
different things that I thought, you know, I've never seen
a guy like Justin on my TV screen before.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
No, no, And so I thought it was a challenge
to step in.
Speaker 8 (32:21):
Two and ultimately a gift. He's such a vulnerable dude.
Speaker 18 (32:27):
Yeah, And through that character, I was able to be
able to become more vulnerable more in two with my feelings.
Speaker 8 (32:36):
So it's a gift and grateful for I love that.
Speaker 1 (32:38):
I love that you guys have shifted the culture with
this show. It's something that we needed to see. The
family dynamic that you guys have shown on the show
with your mom and dad.
Speaker 2 (32:49):
Oh my gosh, shout out Woody and best TV dad,
best TV mom, your mom, Oh my god. I absolutely
love Karen. She's the phenomenal beast, oh my goodness beast.
Speaker 1 (32:59):
And it's how lucky are you to work beside two
eye guys like they are phenomenal?
Speaker 2 (33:04):
Like I'm sure you're like soaking so much up on set.
Speaker 16 (33:07):
From Regina King, Tomorrow, Rocker Kill, the Anthony Heavyway, Aaron Fitman,
what airs lovey now? Because I grew up watching Even
Love You and Ni, So it's just to work with
these people who I've seen on my screen for so long.
Speaker 2 (33:20):
It's like, what is going on?
Speaker 10 (33:22):
You know?
Speaker 2 (33:23):
But again, blessing, Yes, what a blessed bless love that Sueeze.
Speaker 1 (33:30):
I hope you guys enjoy these moments just as much
as I did, because I sure enjoy sharing them with you.
Speaker 2 (33:35):
Well, you had to wait no longer. Season eight is
coming up next week. I know y'all have been waiting patiently,
and I appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (33:42):

Speaker 2 (33:47):
You do not want to miss it. I'll see y'all
