Speaker 1 (00:00):
What's up? Family?

Speaker 2 (00:01):
I am so excited for season eight, But before we
get into it, I gotta take.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Y'all back to be Et Media House. I had so
many amazing conversations, so many gems were dropped. Stay tuned.
He's coming up next.

Speaker 2 (00:12):
All right, guys, Christopher Hazeler here, come in live from
bet Media House with Keep it Positive, sweetie, and I
have two of your favorite ladies from Tyler Perry's sisters,
Mignon and Sal. I want to talk about you more
on a personal level, and y'all, like I said, you
my soul sister, you are very spiritual. You always give
all glory to God. How has that journey been growing
closer to God for you? That's something like I've seen

(00:35):
you speaking out about more and more even on your platform.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I think for me, like right now, just to be vulnerable.
This might be sleep deprivation, allow me to be long understanding,
but like just understanding that God is good. Yeah, and
like how simple that phrase is, but how much weight

(01:01):
it is and how much depth there is, And it
kind of like reminds me of that scripture. There's no height,
nor depth, nor angel nor demon like there is nothing
made that can separate us from the love of God,
and so we might be perplexed, we might be tossed about,
but we have hope and there's an anchor and that

(01:22):
is really what I'm trying to hold onto right now.
And I think I might be in like a stretching season,
like a growing season, like that transition. You know, there's
those moments in your life where you go from Some
people will say glory to glory, but I think when
you go from like wilderness to the promise, but you
remember like how they left Egypt, but then there was

(01:42):
the wilderness, yes, and then there was like the fight
for the promise, and then there was like there's these
stages like I'm in this like and you go through
several wildernesses in life, so likely just understanding like in
those dry spaces like the wilderness, Yeah, your shoes don't
wear out, come on, provides bread every day. So yeah,

(02:06):
it's dry and it's hard and it's not where you
want to be. And it's like I thought you told
me there was something else, But how long I got
to circle this mountain? Like where do you what am
I doing here?

Speaker 1 (02:16):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (02:16):
But like understanding that there are things that have to
die in the wilderness.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
Yep, and that even that is good. Yes, right, yeah,
that is good.

Speaker 3 (02:25):
When he's killing things off of you, when it hurts,
it's good. Like it was good for me that I
was afflicted, that I might know his ways and so
just understanding that all things work together for the good
and so if it's not good yet, then he's not done.

Speaker 1 (02:40):
Like come on, it's just that's just where I am.

Speaker 3 (02:43):
And I like to understanding, like, yeah, if he's a
good father, he's not going to give you something that
you don't have their strength.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
To carry yet.

Speaker 3 (02:52):
Yes, so true, because if I give a ten year
old a car key, they'll crash and die.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Don't want you alive?

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Or do I want you happy?

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Yes?

Speaker 3 (03:00):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Yeah, it's like.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
Learning to just find them the good, truly seeing the
good and everything. So like practically I'm getting back into
like simply just journaling gratitude and like doing the.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Artist pages, I know, you know, the artists way.

Speaker 3 (03:17):
Yeah, stuff like that, and like marrying different modalities for
healing and like keeping my mind is love it sure?

Speaker 1 (03:25):
Yeah so that might have been ten minutes. No, that
was good. I needed that, Yes, so good, so good.

Speaker 2 (03:32):
We live in a world where health is everything, the
quote health is wealth. What brought you to the point
where you're like, I'm going to really make this a
part of my personal journey.

Speaker 4 (03:42):
Yeah, you know, I think it's childhood.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
I think it's not being exposed to really what health
and nutrition and wellness looks like.

Speaker 4 (03:52):
Yeah, you know, I think we all can say as
a kid, we ate nothing, a lot of fast food,
a lot of you know, processed food, not be educated
about those things. And I think as I've gotten older
and also coming into this industry and having you know,
and traveling the world and being more exposed to these
kind of.

Speaker 1 (04:13):
Aligned me to it.

Speaker 4 (04:14):
But also, you know, tomorrow is not promised. You know,
how we treat our bodies, how we take care of ourselves,
like it's going to affect us when we are fifty, sixty,
seventy eighty years old. And I think a lot of
people think it's like, oh, I'm getting older.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
This is just supposed to happen. No, that is not.

Speaker 4 (04:33):
Supposed to have You can be ninety years old and
still lifting weights. You can be ninety years old and
still be so healthy. And that's just kind of how
I live my life. So I did all the certifications
I could do because I just wanted to really understand
what it means to age and understand what.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
It means to feel good.

Speaker 4 (04:53):
You know, you don't have to if you eat something
and you don't feel good, look at that.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
Why your stomach is bloated? Okay, what did you just eat?

Speaker 5 (05:03):
You know?

Speaker 1 (05:03):
But people like they'll just keep eating it. Yeah, this
is just normal. No, it's not you. You have to
eat every once in a while. Yeah, she gave me
the tea code, right, She's like, if you really want
to do it, I'm not telling you what to do.

(05:24):
But I was like, you know, and don't get me wrong.

Speaker 4 (05:27):
I will get I will eat my in and out,
I will eat my fat burger.

Speaker 1 (05:29):
I will I will do it. But it's the balance.

Speaker 4 (05:33):
Yeah, however long we're going to be here, don't you
want to?

Speaker 1 (05:38):
Like I want to feel good absolutely, and that for me.

Speaker 4 (05:42):
And also I like making people feel good. Yes, I
love the helping people work out, and I'm pushing you,
like you can do it.

Speaker 1 (05:50):
It's hard, but you can do it.

Speaker 4 (05:52):
And you're going to feel amazing afterwards.

Speaker 2 (05:53):
I love that I have none other than the candy
birds can what's up?

Speaker 1 (06:00):
How does it feel coming back every single year?

Speaker 6 (06:03):
I think for me, the more mature I get, it's
more thankful I get, because, like you know, longevity is
not it's not given, you know what I mean, It's
not automatic, Like everybody don't are not able to continue
to be in this space, right, So I'm just thankful
for it.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Yeah, speaking of longevity, how have you been able to
continue to keep your career going?

Speaker 1 (06:26):
Because, like you said, a lot of people who started
off where you started are not where you are and
you have literally just skyrocketed.

Speaker 6 (06:33):
I think it's just being constantly open and constantly reinvented
myself and not always caring about being the person in
the front, you know what I mean. It's like I
don't mind being behind the scenes or I'll be in
front whatever the job takes. I mean, if I'm needed,
it's talent. I can be talent if I need. If
I'm the one that's needed to help facilitate and get

(06:54):
everybody together, and then.

Speaker 1 (06:55):
I can do that too.

Speaker 6 (06:56):
You know, I think some people let their ego get
into way and only want to be upfront. But it's
kind of like the way the world in entertainment works
is like you can be super super hot one minute
and then next minute, ain't nobody checking for what you're doing?

Speaker 1 (07:10):
Yeah, so that's.

Speaker 6 (07:11):
Gotta be cool with you know, like playing different roles
until it shows your time to jump back in.

Speaker 2 (07:17):
Kind of like double that right right exactly. Kiss family,
I'm here live from the Beet Media House. But one
of my favorite actors Jay Alphine's Nicholson.

Speaker 1 (07:28):
How are you doing.

Speaker 7 (07:29):
I'm doing great and thank you for the compliment.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yes, no, you are absolutely phenomenal. Getting acclimated into Hollywood?

Speaker 1 (07:36):
How is that being?

Speaker 2 (07:36):
Because I'm from the country too, I'm a Southern girl.
Are you from I'm from Tennessee okay, yeah, Becausin.

Speaker 8 (07:40):
Yeah yeah, right right right there beside each other.

Speaker 2 (07:44):
Yes, yes, So what is that journey been and what
have you learned through all this?

Speaker 1 (07:48):
I know it's a lot for me, Like just getting
Acclimated's like whoa this is? It's different.

Speaker 9 (07:52):
You know.

Speaker 8 (07:53):
Sometimes I forget. I'll be out and forget that I'm
famous of that. So many people know me for the work,
you know. So I'm to me, just me, to my family,
I'm just me. I'll never forget where I come from,
you know. I keep a little video journal on my
phone just to remember, you know, and you know, for me,
it's just all about really being kind to those who

(08:14):
may have a misunderstanding of what this can be. Yes,
and also being you know, putting yourself in isolation to
a certain extent to where it doesn't have to bother you,
and knowing who your real family is. Everything that grant
ain't your friend, you know, and you got to carry
that mentality open into the industry and just you know,
make sure that you keep the people who are with
you at the beginning and try to keep them around

(08:35):
you, you know, try to keep them close.

Speaker 7 (08:36):
So that's been my adjustment. But it's different for everybody.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
No, for sure, saying to me like, I feel like
the more my star continued to rise, isolation became more
of my friends.

Speaker 1 (08:45):
Yeah, for sure, and I found peace in the isolation.

Speaker 8 (08:47):
Yeah, it ain't nothing wrong with especially when you got
the people around you who want around you. And everything
else is a job, you know, and then sometimes people
in the job become your friends and family.

Speaker 7 (08:57):
But you want to be careful and know the difference.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
Yes, so true. Yes, kids, family, it's your girl.

Speaker 2 (09:03):
Christopher Hayes It I'm here at the bat Media house
with the one and only be Ah.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
How are you? I'm great?

Speaker 10 (09:11):
Girl? Are you?

Speaker 1 (09:12):
I'm good?

Speaker 2 (09:12):
You look amazing? So you have over two billion streams?

Speaker 1 (09:19):
Crazy?

Speaker 2 (09:19):
That's crazy, Goddess like great heat.

Speaker 1 (09:24):
Won't we do it?

Speaker 11 (09:25):
You do?

Speaker 9 (09:26):
He will?

Speaker 2 (09:27):
How does it feel to like know that, like people
are playing it everything over and over again.

Speaker 10 (09:31):
I feel really grateful, And I just feel like I'm
really blessed and grateful that people allow me to just
create and support whatever they want to support and let
me make my mistakes as a human and come back
and make better music and things like that. So I'm
grateful for that.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (09:48):
I love that making mistakes and coming back. I feel
like that's just a part of life, you know.

Speaker 10 (09:53):
Yeah, like just you know, you gotta take all the
good with the bad, and you gotta say, like how
is how does this improve me as a person?

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Yeah? You know, I love it.

Speaker 10 (10:03):
So I feel like a lot of my new music
is like very a on a way more positive like
higher frequency, even like the higher energy stuff like We
on Go, It's still it's still just like on a
different level.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
I love that. What made you want to just really
tap into that positive energy?

Speaker 10 (10:19):
I wanted to like really sit down and like pay
attention to the music, pay attention to like my lyrics.
What was the frequency I was putting into the world.
And I really wanted, like my music to mean something,
you know. So I feel like with this project that
I've been working on, it was like a lot of that.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
I'm with you, I'm working on music, and I did
the same thing. I told my team.

Speaker 1 (10:39):
I was like, I want to be intentional about what
I'm putting out.

Speaker 2 (10:42):
And I was like, there's our music is a portal,
you know, we can open up a lot of different
spirits if we're not careful.

Speaker 1 (10:47):
You spend right now.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
Yeah, So like, I love that you're being intentional about that.
That's amazing because a lot of times we just put
what we think is hot, you know, and not understanding
that we're putting different things out there and our audience,
whether it's kids to go in other Yes, Yeah.

Speaker 10 (11:02):
That was a big one for me. That's like I'm
looking at other women and I'm looking at my little sister,
I'm looking at my little cousins, and I'm like, what
type of women did I have to look up to
and what type of women do I need to be? Yes,
like what type of women do I need to be
for them?

Speaker 1 (11:18):
I'm with you. That is so good.

Speaker 2 (11:19):
I'm like, that's even this podcast is called keep It
Positive sweet yeh yes, so yeah, that's it's.

Speaker 1 (11:24):
Because it's so much negativity in the world. Yeah, it's
bad enough, it really is. So we need some positivity.
So I'm excited about this.

Speaker 2 (11:32):
All right, guys, Christopher Hazel here reporting live from the
Beet Media House, and I have my dear friend, my
little bro.

Speaker 1 (11:38):
Devintu with me. How you doing.

Speaker 12 (11:40):
I'm doing great, So.

Speaker 1 (11:42):
I keep tabs on you.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
You're still on your mental health journey, You're still speaking.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
How's that going?

Speaker 9 (11:48):
It's going great.

Speaker 12 (11:49):
I think, you know, by the grace of God, I'm
able to explain it in a way that people are
able to receive the message and understand the importance of
prioritiz in your mental health because a lot of times,
like I said before in the interview, that we did
like people, you know, it's explained to us in such
a way that it's kind of like it makes it

(12:09):
like it's kind of hard to make it practical, but
I try to break it down to make it practical,
and I feel like people receive it pretty well, so.

Speaker 1 (12:15):
You do such a good job with that.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
Yeah, you do, and you've reached so many people. Like
at my live show, I got so many people called
me afterwards. I was like, oh my god, he blew
me away. And I'm like, the kid is just brilliant. Wow,
I call you a kid, but you're he's a man.

Speaker 9 (12:28):
No, no, no, I appreciate you far.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
You're brilliant.

Speaker 2 (12:30):
I'm just like, you blew me away when people are
calling like, oh my god, and that Divinci like every
conversation you came up.

Speaker 1 (12:36):
Wow, like yeah, you're so good.

Speaker 2 (12:39):
That that speaks to who you are because you can
touch so many different people, like from all age ranges.

Speaker 1 (12:45):
Yeah, that's huge because a lot of people can't. They
have like one little demographic. They right, exactly, you have
such a wide range.

Speaker 9 (12:51):
Exactly. No, I appreciate that, No, for sure.

Speaker 1 (12:53):
Something that we share in comment that we talked about
is our faith. I always want to tap into that
anytime I can.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
How is that going for you and is there anything
that you can share with someone who may be feeling
down on a look and just not really feeling it
right now?

Speaker 12 (13:07):
I would say, if you believe in the Bible, which
which I do. I think you just got to understand
that and know that it's a good fight. You know,
the walk walking with Christ is probably one of the
hardest walks you can make. But just know that you're
not You're not alone. And I think in the end
not I think, I know in the end it's all
going to pay off. But but yeah, just just fight

(13:29):
the good fight and just allow the Holy Spirit to
be letting you into your life.

Speaker 9 (13:33):
I think a lot of.

Speaker 12 (13:34):
Times we were building doors unmannokest like we don't we're
not aware that we're building doors to block out good
stuff in our life.

Speaker 9 (13:43):
So just try to be more mindful.

Speaker 12 (13:45):
I think pray for discernment and areas that you might
be blocking God off that you don't realize you're doing it,
because there's a lot of ways we could be doing that,
and I think it alleviates some of the suffering.

Speaker 1 (13:53):
That's so good. I love it. I love you, man, No,
I appreciate you, love you too.

Speaker 12 (13:57):
I appreciate you.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
Jaco's always good to talk to you.

Speaker 9 (14:00):
You see you.

Speaker 1 (14:01):
Congratulations season seven. That's huge. I think you talked about that.

Speaker 2 (14:04):
Just the longevity and having a job in this industry
is a blessing.

Speaker 1 (14:08):
How does it feel to be hitting your seventh season
of the ship.

Speaker 9 (14:12):
It's dope.

Speaker 13 (14:12):
I just try to stay humble and keep my head down,
you know what I mean, because like I just know,
like the way our industry set up.

Speaker 9 (14:18):
It can go either way.

Speaker 1 (14:20):
You know, it really can.

Speaker 13 (14:21):
Like that film striker is like we talked about it.
You know what I'm saying, Like, it's like, yo, you
can really just the film industry can shut down if
you want to.

Speaker 1 (14:27):
You really does not have a job out here.

Speaker 5 (14:29):
Yeah.

Speaker 13 (14:29):
Yeah, So I'm definitely like just grateful, keep my head
down and always ready for the pivot, trying to save
my money and do right in between seasons.

Speaker 2 (14:37):
And I go crazy, I know, because it's so easy
money Here's yeah.

Speaker 13 (14:41):
I always tell people, man, it's so it's a lot
of spirits attached to your money goals. Wow, oh let's
talk about you know what I'm saying, Because like you
can reach your money goal and then you blow it
because you just so geeked about the materialistic things that
you want and you're not realizing out of your excitement,
you making the worst financial decision.

Speaker 1 (14:56):
Ever's so good, you know what I'm saying That it's
so good.

Speaker 14 (14:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
I think that's something that a lot of people, young
people should know should coming into the industry.

Speaker 1 (15:03):
When you get it, make sure you honor it and
do right, body, because it can be gone just like that.

Speaker 9 (15:08):
The chaining want the rolls, like, I mean, you know
we want we.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
All want it.

Speaker 9 (15:13):
It's the cars, you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (15:15):
And then you get it and you're like, it's temporary. No,
it's so temporary. It's so temporary.

Speaker 13 (15:19):
Like you know what I mean, I've just been putting
more money, my money into the house, the backyard stuff
I like to do.

Speaker 7 (15:23):
Yeah, I mean I'm a homebody.

Speaker 1 (15:24):
Same.

Speaker 14 (15:25):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
I remember you still having parties at your house on
your own account.

Speaker 9 (15:27):
Yeah, you selected few.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Oh my gosh. I was just telling my parents are visiting.

Speaker 2 (15:34):
I was like, make sure when you guys get an
uber like they'll start asking questions, don't be straight up.
You gotta be careful because people like they start prying,
they want to know certain things.

Speaker 9 (15:42):
They're like got to set them bounce.

Speaker 2 (15:44):
Yes, and your home is like your safe, having your
head energy let in there.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
I'm with you on that.

Speaker 9 (15:49):
That's right.

Speaker 13 (15:50):
The slow burns, I think that's just been kind of
my testimony. In my career, really like everything has been
like a delayed gratification, you know.

Speaker 4 (15:58):
What I mean.

Speaker 7 (15:58):
In the moment, it be like I was, and then
you're like, oh man.

Speaker 13 (16:01):
Looking back, brou you're a legend, right, thank you agend.
Like I'm still still young, you know what I mean.
So it's cool still writing my story.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (16:10):
I love that you said delayed gratification. I feel like
that has been my life story. Yeah, and a lot
of times it's really just God like ordering the sets
and ordaining things.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
So when you get to that point where it feels
like you're delayed, you're right on time.

Speaker 13 (16:21):
Yep, you perfect, You relax, you ain't going too crazy.
I think I think famous fame shouldn't hit somebody too fast,
you know what I'm saying. I think it's it's it's
detrimental for anybody.

Speaker 9 (16:33):
I agree.

Speaker 13 (16:33):
So I definitely thank God for protecting us on our
way to what we're doing, because I feel like, if
you want to have a career, careers is a slow burn.

Speaker 9 (16:42):
You know, you could be the most popping.

Speaker 13 (16:44):
Guy whatever or popping girl, but a career is what
we really want, you know what I mean. Like, and
it doesn't mean you're always gonna be that that person,
you know, but you always gonna have that longevity in career.

Speaker 9 (16:54):
So that's that's what we.

Speaker 2 (16:55):
Want I have with me, Jay Murphy, you are really
big on using your guy give gifts. Tell me how
you honed into your God given gifts and what are
some of the gifts that you realized that you had.

Speaker 11 (17:06):
Well, I think back to what we were just saying
as far as just DC wake you up. I think
my experience, my undergrad experience at Howard, really opened up
my eyes on what I wanted to do. I just
didn't know how I wanted to do it. But in
that moment, I figured out as a college boy, what
I wanted to do.

Speaker 1 (17:25):
And so.

Speaker 11 (17:27):
The very first thing that I started doing, I started
as a host. And so I used to host things
all on campus, all the student body, Smart or homecoming,
red Life, you know, or with ESPN U would come.

Speaker 9 (17:45):
Film the game.

Speaker 11 (17:45):
I'll be doing a pep rally, so you know, even
freshman orientation. I was a part of an organization called
campus Bous and so like yeah, I became like the
face of the student body behind the microphone day your.

Speaker 9 (17:59):
Boy across have out the side and the guy Rilla.
I started hosting step shows.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
He was like, listen, listen, We're gonna do it.

Speaker 3 (18:07):
We're gonna get it done.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
Period.

Speaker 11 (18:08):
Yes, I started hosting step shows. So after I crossed
capital to my LB was like me lying to DJ,
you just did. I was like, nah, I got my cane,
I got my mic I'm cool. I love he started
learning out DJ. I just ain't telling nobody listen. So
by the time I got out this is a crazy story.
This is actually how I got to La real quick.

(18:29):
I graduated in May twenty twelve, right, so at that
time I was still working in the city doing night
life as well, and I was also working at Radio one,
working at three point nine. So I would go back
to Virginia to do certain gigs and stuff, open up
concerts just to host that. At that time, I'm still
learning how to DJ, but it's just under the radar.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
I love that. Yes, that's the story.

Speaker 11 (18:52):
And I got hit up to do Kendrick Lamar's first
two dates on the Good Kid Mass the tour with
B Team Music Matters.

Speaker 1 (19:03):
That's huge. So last shot of Howard, I'm fired up.

Speaker 11 (19:06):
I'm like, I'm gonna just put myself on this tour.

Speaker 9 (19:08):
I'm gonna figure that out.

Speaker 11 (19:09):
Block make a long story short. The first the first
show is in Norfolk at the Nova in my hometown.
Second show was at the National and Richmond Wow. And
I ended up doing twenty three days on that tour.

Speaker 1 (19:22):
So you had to kill it.

Speaker 11 (19:24):
He was after that tour, I found myself in l
a Wow.

Speaker 9 (19:27):
But the caveat to your question.

Speaker 11 (19:30):
To answer your question, I was telling you I was
learning how to DJ. Yes, towards the end of that tour,
they didn't they didn't have a house DJ for like
the last shows, so instead of me hosting the DJ
and so it's like, can you can you play?

Speaker 9 (19:45):
I was like, yeah, I could play it.

Speaker 15 (19:47):
I'm like, oh.

Speaker 7 (19:49):
Yeah, that's up. I could just you know what I'm saying,
I messed up.

Speaker 11 (19:53):
I could just host and I could just carry the
show until and so it came out until Jay.

Speaker 9 (19:57):
Rock, you know what I mean.

Speaker 11 (19:59):
And that's literally how I found my passion and making
sure I could host and I could detail.

Speaker 1 (20:07):
That's so dope what I'm saying.

Speaker 11 (20:08):
Yeah, a lot of people know and a lot of
people don't know that I'm also an artist.

Speaker 9 (20:13):
I'm also artists I'm also a producer. I'm also a songwriter.

Speaker 1 (20:16):
You do everything. That's amazing, many talents. God took his
time on Jay Murphy Listen, listen, Hey, I'm with you.

Speaker 11 (20:24):
And so you learn, you learn about the levels and
the parallels of how far your gifts can take you.
And so you just got to make sure you water
on your garden.

Speaker 1 (20:34):
That's that's good.

Speaker 11 (20:35):
That's what If you're not working your garden, you know
that dirt is gonna look dirty over there.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
It ain't gonna look.

Speaker 9 (20:40):
You know what I'm saying, pooful at all.

Speaker 11 (20:42):
I'm learning that even to this to this day, I'm
still learning that, you know, despite my demand as a DJ,
despite the man.

Speaker 9 (20:50):
To be here, to be aware.

Speaker 11 (20:51):
It just like I have to prioritize taxically time to
evolve in what it's been gifted to me because people
look at me and you was just like, damn, I
wish I had the confidence, the boldness that the drive
the residents to be able to be in front of
cameras all day and be in front of people that
I don't know, people be having anxiety, you know what

(21:11):
I'm saying, but all the most excuses and they just
need to learn how to keep it positive.

Speaker 1 (21:20):
I like what you did there. Keep it positive, Diy
and do the work. That's what you did.

Speaker 2 (21:26):
Like, even when you were working, you were honing another
skill behind the scenes that is so important.

Speaker 1 (21:30):
So when the moment came, you were ready.

Speaker 11 (21:33):
You gotta stay ready.

Speaker 2 (21:34):
Yeah, all right, kids, family, I have it with me,
Jack Freeman.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
We were here at the Media House.

Speaker 2 (21:40):
So you're from Houston is big on music, yes, So
what was your inspiration growing up?

Speaker 15 (21:47):
It was a lot of a lot of Donny Hathaway
getting played in the house.

Speaker 9 (21:51):
Yes, D'Angelo, I'm a huge Rick James fan.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Really were you now dancing?

Speaker 15 (21:58):
The most unheard human being I've ever seen in my life,
So huge, Rick James, Big, Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendergrass, Chaka Khan,
Whitney Houston.

Speaker 9 (22:09):
A lot of gospel, a lot of Adams and.

Speaker 15 (22:11):
Winings, Yeah, the Clark's sisters, all of that, and then
we got that Ace town that you know, a lot
of Zero and Slim Thug and Paul Swisher House, you know,
rap a lot.

Speaker 9 (22:24):
You know a lot of those guys. Man. So it
was just all throughout the house.

Speaker 15 (22:28):
And I have older siblings, so I got a lot
of their music taste, and my parents are in their
sixties and seventies, so I got their taste and then
I built my own.

Speaker 1 (22:39):
I love it.

Speaker 9 (22:39):
I think I'm the only one in the house that's
so big of a Rick James fan. That is ridiculous.
It's actually kind of kind of embarrassing a little bit.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (22:49):
So you have your thirst two yeo album, Nina. Let's
talk about that in your single MVP Yes.

Speaker 9 (22:54):
So.

Speaker 15 (22:55):
The album is executive produced by another Houston native, Brian
Michael Cox.

Speaker 9 (23:00):
Legendary, Brian Legendary, love his super producer. He just texted
me before I started.

Speaker 2 (23:04):
Yeah, love him.

Speaker 15 (23:05):
Yeah, I love that guy, Manu. The album has been
out since last February, but we're putting out a deluxe
this year. So we're on our third single, m v
P A debut on the on the Billboard tarts a
few weeks ago. It's my first Billboard charting.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Congratulations, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Speaker 15 (23:22):
And we got a remix remix coming with Bunbe. We
got another remix coming with Big Crit too, so oh yeah, yeah, yeah,
you know what I'm saying. Big Crit killed it, Bunbe
killed it.

Speaker 9 (23:34):
Man. Bumbe is like a It's like a true true
mentor to me.

Speaker 15 (23:39):
I love it, love him man, having guys like him
and Brian in the corner. Man, it's just it's been
a great, great rioty the last couple of years.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
No, that is incredible.

Speaker 2 (23:48):
Absolutely, I love that I have it with me none
other than party up to Jada and swim.

Speaker 1 (23:54):
How are y'all doing good? Good? Are you good?

Speaker 2 (23:57):
What are some things that you've learned about yourself navigating
into adulthood?

Speaker 1 (24:01):
Yeah, and navigating this industry.

Speaker 16 (24:02):
Yeah, man, Honestly, the number one thing is just learn
like who I actually am, you know, being like a
child entertainer and singing songs and like talking about stuff
that you haven't even been through yet.

Speaker 1 (24:16):
What's always like a disconnect from you.

Speaker 16 (24:18):
So now like you know, making my own music and
taking inspiration from what I'm actually experiencing, it's different. And yeah,
it's so much fun making music with him because he's
my best friend, Like he knows everything about me, so
when we write together, it's like, yeah, it's just a
really safe space.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (24:36):
Now, if there are some young young people who want
to be in the entertainment industry or want to be
in your shoes.

Speaker 1 (24:40):
What is some advice that you would give them, I
would say, no, you're why, know your why.

Speaker 5 (24:47):
The most important thing is you being yourself and you
being happy.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
Don't chase success, don't chase fame.

Speaker 5 (24:54):
Just chase creative freedom, passion and authenticity and you'll be fine.

Speaker 1 (25:00):
That's so good. I love that. My friend, my hominge,
my day one, Ray Daniels, thank you for having me.
I feel like I'm like a real day one.

Speaker 5 (25:09):
Like I'm I was just telling people, I'm like I
shot her first video song. We was like out there
trying to make it happen. So like watching you shine,
it's amazing because you always was the star. And the
thing that people don't know is that you played your role.
A lot of people that want to get up, like
because as you and my friend I knew you was
going to be an artist, but it wasn't like it

(25:29):
wasn't like you was like I.

Speaker 1 (25:31):
Gotta have it. If I don't have it, I want nothing.

Speaker 9 (25:32):
He was like, Ray, I'll just come hang out.

Speaker 5 (25:34):
So I just want to give you prosper that for
the people that's watching you actually let God do the
work and now you're being blessed rather than trying to force.

Speaker 1 (25:40):
Him to do the work.

Speaker 5 (25:41):
Come on, come on, you know what I'm talking about.

Speaker 1 (25:44):
I know what you're talking about, y'all. Ray Daniels, This
song I Love You was him. It's so only one way.

Speaker 9 (25:55):
By the way, that song is such a slash.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
Shake really shot the poocholl for showing up for the
video too.

Speaker 7 (26:06):
You had connections.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
That was guy. He'd be like, listen what you need?
I got it fun for writing it. It was man,
crazy crazy, crazy wow. Because music was your life.

Speaker 5 (26:17):
Music, by the way, it still is. It's just I
have a different relationship with it. I think the relationship
that I have with it is the relationship necessary for
mental health because if you love it and music is
going through this transition period where now it's like it's
not even valued. It's like, just get somebody ten hours
a month. You can have every song in the world
that's made. So I think they're kind of treating music

(26:38):
like it's like background noise. And I'm not a background artist.
You know that about me. We're not background over here.

Speaker 1 (26:44):
So you know, I started the podcast doing pretty good.
Let's talk about the podcast. Ray Daniels presents The God Show.

Speaker 5 (26:51):
I so what I did was I created like a network.
So so I have the God Show, which is why
I interview people. I have an Artist Spotlight for upcoming
artist because artists still want to talk to me. I
have Best Debatable because I like to argue. You know
that about men. I love arguing. And then the last
one I got is the Radar Report, which is doing
the best right now because it's just me giving people

(27:12):
my personality. So I'm watching the podcast World Change, you
know what I'm talking about, Like it's like streaming is
becoming relevant. Like it's not about interviews, it's about you.

Speaker 7 (27:22):
I want to know who you are.

Speaker 5 (27:23):
So once you start understanding that is like you got
to give the world more you.

Speaker 1 (27:27):
The people want to see you.

Speaker 2 (27:29):
Well you notice that with my episodes, I can interview
some of the most amazing, fascinating people.

Speaker 1 (27:33):
But when you get in front of that mic, they're
there for you.

Speaker 5 (27:35):
Because the thing that I had to figure out is that,
let's say about artist on promo, right, and they do
fifty interviews in the market, like your interview is just
one to fifty, so it makes you different. So for me,
it was like and what I noticed that you notice
about me? Like when I interview, ice Cube, ll COOJ,
all these guys. After the interview, they all said the
same thing to me, I just want to.

Speaker 9 (27:54):
Talk to you.

Speaker 10 (27:54):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (27:55):
I'm like, you know who I am. It was like, bro,
you spit the game. So I'm like, but the audience
is like, we don't want to hear you. We want
to hear them.

Speaker 1 (28:01):
And I'm like, you know what, I don't get y'all.
And then I'm gonna talk my s over here. So
that's what I'm doing right now. So let's go. I
love by the way I'm just saying with you.

Speaker 5 (28:10):
It's like, you know, they see you acting and they
see this, and then it's like they see you in
this character they fall in love with that, but now
they get to see the real person, and the real
person has always been a sweetheart. Like That's what It's
weird that when I see you famous, because I don't
see you as famous yet, like you're such like I
still remember the girl in the kitchen showed me she
could cook, Like Ray, I could cook, you don't know,

(28:30):
and I'm like, you can't cook.

Speaker 1 (28:32):
You can't cook.

Speaker 5 (28:32):
I'm like, you're pretty ass, can't cook?

Speaker 4 (28:34):
Ray?

Speaker 5 (28:34):
I get down, Yes, exactly what you said, you about
to say it with me, right, and you cook for it.

Speaker 1 (28:39):
So you know, I'm just happy for you. Thank you
so much. I love it.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
I'm just proud of your growth and you just incredible,
like you have.

Speaker 1 (28:46):
Literally a lot of people.

Speaker 2 (28:47):
Didn't believe me in that time, you know, so to
come to somebody and you just see me for.

Speaker 5 (28:51):
Who I am, I can't believe Ayin. But by the way,
it's another thing. It's something about virgos in your life.
I'm a virgo.

Speaker 9 (28:58):
A virgo.

Speaker 5 (28:58):
It's crazy, And I thought I always thought about that
because you wasn't thirsty for you, wasn't trying. He saw
it in you like you're saying with me. It wasn't
like you was trying to put me on. You were
just hanging out every day. It was like we cut
a song on you. I'm putting you because you want
to empower the people who do it right, and most
of the time they empower the wrong people and then
we get the wrong out coming in with mad.

Speaker 9 (29:19):
But like you got a thing with virgos, and we'll
let you know that.

Speaker 14 (29:22):
Dude.

Speaker 2 (29:22):
Yeah, I am sitting here with the beautiful, big, gorgeous
joy Taylor. Do you have a podcast, Yeah, too personal?
So we're I have a pod. This is my podcast
if I was a sweety. But like, it was so
funny because in the beginning I was like, I don't
want to talk about my personal stuff, and your show
is actually called it too personal?

Speaker 1 (29:40):
How did you come up with that topic?

Speaker 17 (29:42):
Well, because he wanted to, you know, share, I think
like you do, you know, you know doing your show
that the real thing that like connects us all is.

Speaker 1 (29:53):
When we are vulnerable and when we.

Speaker 17 (29:57):
Maybe tell things about ourselves that are a little and
or that the internet might hold on to forever, but
it reaches people in different ways, and you know, I
try to be as authentic as I can with Also,
obviously I'm sure you're this way as well. You have
things in your private life that you hold sacred absolutely.

(30:19):
But I think, especially like in the times that we're in,
we're all dealing with a lot, and it's kind of
nice to see that it's hard, you know, like we
don't all have it all together all the time. I
was talking about it this week. Yeah, I don't even
know what it looks like. I was talking about this
week that I'm really dealing with trying to remain empathetic,

(30:42):
like I'm very angry about a lot of things that
I feel like I have a right to be angry about.
But I'm also like it's hard every day the two
most powerful women in the world are fighting on social
media like children, We've got ice pulling people off the streets.
We've got gender wars, and the men are lonely. Like

(31:04):
it's always something. It's like, can we have a day?
Can we get a day?

Speaker 1 (31:07):
It's a day? Can we get one day? Yes?

Speaker 17 (31:10):
So you know, I'm it's it's And everyone didn't like that.
They're like, well, you're angry, Like, yeah, I am angry.
I'm angry. I am angry about a lot of things.
And it's now that's not cute, but it's true.

Speaker 1 (31:21):
It's the truth.

Speaker 2 (31:22):
And I mean, I feel like we're human and you
have to feel all those emotions, and a lot of
times we try to brust things under the rug or
be like I'm not feeling that. No you are, and
that's okay. You know you have to feel it so
you can get to the other side of it. Yes,
that's how I look at it.

Speaker 17 (31:35):
Yeah, I mean feeling emotions like we all kind of
have to. I mean, managing your emotions and being an
emotionally disciplined person is just a part of being an adult.

Speaker 1 (31:45):
Like you don't you.

Speaker 17 (31:46):
Don't get to just crash out right, you want to know,
but it's it's a balance of saying attached to your
emotions while also moving through this very difficult, very intense,
very very you know negative world. Like negativity is what sells,
it's what gets the chitter chatter yep. Positivity can be

(32:09):
you know, searched for, but some of our most core
memories are overshadowed by the negative ones and the traumatic ones.
Like we just I think we feel we feel those
emotions more intensely, and sometimes that when we're happy or
we're at peace, there's, at least for me, there's like
this looming thing of like this is only temporary, but

(32:30):
when something bad is happening, it's like this will be forever.

Speaker 1 (32:33):
Right, Why do we do that everything is going to pass?
That's real? Yeah, that is so true.

Speaker 2 (32:38):
That's why I name this podcast Keep It Positive Sweetly
because there is so much negativity in the world, and
I'm so intentional about not using clickbait to make it
because a lot of people take like one thing you
say and twist.

Speaker 1 (32:49):
And you're like, let's go listen to the whole thing.
That is not That's not what I said.

Speaker 2 (32:54):
Yeah, it's like so annoying when people do that, So
I'm very intentional about that to not be that person.

Speaker 1 (33:00):
Hey guys, I'm here with Jay Run Now what's going on?

Speaker 15 (33:03):
Jay?

Speaker 1 (33:03):
How are you? I'm wonderful. I'm I'm doing like this
microphone says, and I'm doing my.

Speaker 7 (33:08):
Best to keep it positive.

Speaker 1 (33:10):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (33:11):
You awesome part of Kanye West Sunday Service, which was
an incredible album. Time what a tie. Oh my gosh,
Like that music touched myself. It was like so so good.

Speaker 1 (33:22):
Listen so good.

Speaker 18 (33:23):
We appreciate everybody who still is even listening to that album.
You know, everybody's kind of in a different place in
their life at this point, right Hello, But you know,
so many of us that were in the choir we
still stay in contact. So many friendships made and and
you know, people working together.

Speaker 1 (33:42):
So I will always cherish that time.

Speaker 18 (33:45):
Yeah, and what we were able to do to kind
of inspire bringing the choirs back, especially being raised in
the church, being raised in the nineties early two thousands.

Speaker 7 (33:54):
All the gospel of it all.

Speaker 18 (33:55):
So yeah, to be able to help inspire and you know,
shift the culture a little bit, I love it.

Speaker 1 (34:01):
I love that. Guys. I'm sitting here with the one,
the only, Kenyon Dixon. How are you feeling.

Speaker 7 (34:07):
I'm good.

Speaker 9 (34:08):
I'm good.

Speaker 7 (34:08):
How you doing?

Speaker 1 (34:09):
I'm good.

Speaker 2 (34:09):
So how are you balancing being a family man and
working in this industry?

Speaker 14 (34:14):
That's an incredible question. It's really just taking it day
by day. It's kind of hard to pinpoint the balance
because I'm living it in real time, you know what
I mean.

Speaker 7 (34:26):
But I always think it's interesting.

Speaker 14 (34:27):
Like my daughter, So I've been nominated for three Grammys,
every single Grammy Award, which has been back to back.
My daughter has come with me. She thinks that this
is a yearly thing. Now she doesn't understand it's connected
too if I get a nomination for something. So I
think stuff like that for me is it keeps me

(34:48):
grounded because it's so funny because we're you know, at
the Grammy's on the carpet, all dressed up, and then
it's like, by the end of the night, you're back
home like none of this ever happened. So I think
I keep those moments and those experiences with me just
to remind me of you know what I mean, the
full scope of life and the human experience really
