Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello friends, it's mister Jim and welcome back to Kids'
Animal Stories, where we go on adventures and learn all
about creature skills. Are you ready for today's adventure where
we learn about the dentist who lives under the ocean.
Oh yeah, he's a brave little creature and he's got

(00:26):
some super cool skills. Let's go. It was a beautiful
day deep deep down in the ocean, and it was
time for doctor Peter to head to work. Wait, there's
a doctor that lives in the ocean. Oh yeah, doctor Peter.

(00:50):
He's a dentist. He cleans all kinds of different fishes
and underwater creature's teeth to make sure that they're clean
and don't get any cavities. What kind of creature is
doctor Peter? Oh he is a cleaner shrimp. Yeah, you know.
Those tiny little creatures there are may be about as
long as your finger. They live and swim in the ocean.

(01:13):
Those are the little cleaner shrimp. They have tiny little
hands with beautifully made claws that are perfect for picking
out all the little bugs, critters and bacteria that are
inside a fish's teeth. And so fish and all kinds
of creatures come and visit doctor Peter at his office
to get a regular checkup and cleaning. All right, today's

(01:37):
gonna be a great day. I got a pretty full
schedule with all kinds of creatures coming in.

Speaker 2 (01:41):
Ooo.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
He loved his job and he loved helping other creatures
like fish and whales and dolphins have clean teeth. One
by one, each fish that had come in for an appointment,
he was able to clean up their teeth. All right. Yeah, Sally,
you're teether looking fantastic today. After this cleaning, you are

(02:06):
gonna be one shiny fish. Oh oh, shan shanks, doctor Peter.
Isn't it kind of hard to talk when your mouth
is open? Yeah? A shaw ill you haw?

Speaker 3 (02:21):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
And when you go to the dentist and your mouth
is very big, very open, and the doctor the dentist
ask you a question like what's your favorite color, like
what's your favorite sport to play? And you're like, oh, hey,
claw or cry? Oh my hair r? Can you talk
with your mouth wide open? That's pretty hard. Go try

(02:46):
and tell your parents something with your mouth wide open.
Oh well, doctor Peter was really good at understanding creatures
under the water talk with their mouth wide open. It
was like almost speaking a different language. Well, the next
appointment was with a ginormous whale, and oh boy, this

(03:13):
was gonna be a lot of work. You know, with
smaller fish, the cleanings are pretty quick, but the bigger
the creature, it's gonna take a long time. This whale,
it had been a long time since he'd been into
the dentist's office, and as he swam in, doctor Peter
knew instantly that this was going to take a while. Hey,

(03:35):
mister whale, how are you doing today? Said doctor Peter.
I'm not I'm not doing very well.

Speaker 3 (03:43):
My my teeth are kind of sore and I have
not been very good of brushing them. Can you check
and see what's going on back there? I just feel
different today.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
Oh absolutely, just open up and say ah ah. Mister
whale opened up his mouth very very big and in
normal like day to day life. Did you know that
a lot of whales eat shrimp. Yeah, and so doctor
Peter had a very special relationship with his parents, and

(04:20):
they had an agreement that no one would try to
eat him. While doctor Peter was swimming around inside of
mister Whale's mouth, he found something that needed some extra help.
All right, mister whale. So I found some of the
stuff that was stuck in your teeth, and I was
able to pull it out. But there's one section back

(04:42):
there that I'm gonna go. I'm gonna need to go
out and find a sea sponge to come back and
give it really good cleaning, because if that bacteria continues
to grow on your teeth, we're gonna have some much
bigger problems. Can you just wait here and I'll be
right back in a few minutes. Oh shuh, hey, hi,

(05:02):
he here. That was mister whale trying to talk with
his mouth open again. Uh okay, I'm not sure what
she said, but I'll be right back. Just hang here,
said doctor Peter. Doctor Peter swam out the door because
he had to go find a very special sea sponge.
Did you know that sponges like sponges that we wash

(05:25):
our dishes with or maybe our hands in the bath,
sponges come from the ocean. Yeah. They're kind of like
a plant that grows and then when you get the sponge,
then doctor Peter he can use it to clean off
that whale's tooth. He had a special garden where he

(05:47):
grew his sea sponges and he was swimming out to
that area. And uh, oh no, waites what happened here?
As Doctor Peter swam over to his garden, he realized
that he had been robbed. Dun, dun, dun.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Oh no, who.

Speaker 1 (06:10):
Would do such a thing. You don't think it's Professor
sticky Fingers, do you? Oh? No, Professor sticky Fingers he is.
He's always stealing stuff, you see, Professor sticky fingers. He
has sticky fingers and loves to steal all kinds of things. Well,

(06:34):
I guess sponges were on his list today.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
All right, these sponges are gonna go great in my house. Well,
I don't clean anything with them, but I don't want
anyone else to do any.

Speaker 1 (06:48):
Cleaning with them either.

Speaker 2 (06:49):
So if I steal them, then I'll be able to
make the ocean very stinky and sticky.

Speaker 1 (07:00):
That was Professor sticky Fingers. He has stolen all the
sponges from Doctor Peter's sponge garden. How in the world
and why would he do that? Oh? Man? Yeah, you see,
Professor sticky Fingers. He is on doctor Stinkybreath's team. They're
always about ruining things and stealing things and trying to

(07:21):
make the world stinky and stinky. We're gonna have to
wait and see until the next episode to see what
doctor Peter is able to do to rescue his sponges
the end. Great job, you listened all the way to

(07:44):
the end. And you know, these shrimp are actually pretty
cool creatures. They are known of being the cleaners of
the ocean and helping out other fish. It's pretty cool
that you can have a friendship like that with you know,
a lot of fish eat shrimp, but sometimes the fish
want to be friends with the shrimp because they can
help each other out. The shrimp can keep the fish

(08:07):
clean and the fish can help protect the shrimp from
creatures that want to eat it. Yeah, pretty cool, crazy
friendship in the ocean. Well, that is our cleaner shrimp,
Doctor Peter. We'll see you on part two in a
few days.

Speaker 3 (08:22):
Bye.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
