Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello, my friends, it's mister jim and welcome back to
Kids Animal Stories. Do you love animals as much as me?
I love all animals and no matter what your favorite
animal is, you should definitely smash the follow button so
that you don't miss out on any of our stories
and you can join our animal crew. Well, today's story

(00:25):
is about a cricket. A cricket with a dream that
he's not sure about. But what is going to happen
on today's adventure? Let's go. It was a beautiful day
and Jimminy the cricket was headed off to school. He

(00:48):
loved going to cricket school with all of his cricket friends.
They would do all kinds of fun games like hide
and seek and of course cricket tag. Do you know
cricket tag? Yeah, it's kind of like where you jump
around like you're a cricket and if you get touched
by the person that's it, then you have to sing

(01:10):
a song all the way to the end and then
you're unfrozen. That's a pretty fun cricket game. Well, jim
Andy loved playing all these games at school and he
also really liked learning, except there was there was this
one class that he didn't love music class. Music class

(01:31):
for crickets was always basically violin class. Do you know
the instrument violin? Oh, it's a beautiful instrument that makes
really cool music. You hold it over with your hand
and it rests on your shoulder, and then you hold
something called a read and you play the strings nice

(01:52):
and slowly, or you might go vast Well, crickets, pretty
much every cricket that's ever learns to play the violin.
That's just kind of a part of the gig. If
you're a cricket, you're a violinist. And Jimmy he didn't
really like it, Like he was kind of frustrated that

(02:12):
he had to play violin every day and practice every
day and he wasn't really given any other choices. But
today he is about to discover something new. After school,
Jimminy was walking home when he heard something in the distance.

(02:35):
What is that sound? He said, It was coming from
kind of in the forest on the other side of
the park. He walked through the park and started to
enter the forest. That is so cool. Where's that coming?
Is that a cicada? Oh? I don't want him to
see me. Wait, I gotta get out of here, and

(02:58):
just like that, Jimmy took for the hills. He had
to run home as fast as he could. Well, he
didn't have to, but I guess he was embarrassed that
that cicada saw him watching. As he was running back home,
he was thinking, was all of that sound coming out
of that cicada's mouth? That is so Wait a second,

(03:20):
how in the world did he do that? Said Jimminy
to himself. Yes, that is called beatboxing. Have you ever
heard of beatboxing? Oh, it's a really cool thing that
you can do with your mouth, Like can you make
a sound like thatch? Yeah, there's so many different sounds

(03:42):
that you can make with your mouth, and cicadas they
can make some very cool sounds. Well. As Jimmy arrived home,
his parents greeted him at the door and said, Jimminy,
how is your day? Anything extra awesome happened? All Jimmy
could think about was that amazing beat boxing cicada that
he met in the forest, But he didn't want to

(04:03):
talk about it because crickets usually only hang with other crickets.
Oh it was it was a pretty normal day. Nothing,
nothing new happened. I didn't meet any Uh, I didn't,
I did, I didn't, I didn't meet any cicadas or
I mean, it was a great day. His parents kind
of looked at each other and were confused that why

(04:24):
Jimmy was acting so strange. All right, Jimmy, Well, uh,
sounds like you had an interesting day. And it's actually
time for dinner. Let's all sit down. The whole family
sat down at dinner, and Jimmy could not stop thinking
about that awesome sound he heard out of that cicada. Yeah,
I really wish that I could do that. That was

(04:48):
way cooler than violin, he thought to himself. You see,
every instrument is cool in its own way. You know,
one instrument is not better than another. There's just some
that it might sound extra awesome to you. So some
kids might love drums, or some kids might love the trumpet,

(05:09):
or others might love the violin. And it looks like
Jimminy he really liked that beatboxing sound. After dinner, it
was time for Jimminy to practice his violin with his
brothers and sisters. They all got out their music sheets
and started practicing their violin, and as he was playing,

(05:31):
he just couldn't stop thinking about that sound in the forest,
but he didn't think his parents would want to hear
about that, so he didn't want to talk about it.
Do you think that's a good idea of him to
keep that like a secret. I don't think so. I
think his parents would be really interested in hearing what
Jimminy loves to do. Well. Their time of violin practice

(05:54):
had ended, and it was time to get ready for bed.
As he was brushing his teeth, he decided, I am
going to talk to that cicada tomorrow. He's got to
teach me how he does that. But I hope nobody
finds out. There's no way that anyone can know that
I'm interested in something like that other than violin. Holy smokes.

(06:18):
What is gonna happen with Jimmy and his meeting with
that cicada tomorrow? I don't know, but we'll have to
wait and see what happens on the next episode of
Kids and mol Stories. Bye, great job, you listened all

(06:39):
the way to the end. And actually, real crickets. Do
you know that sound that they make that great creek? Yeah,
that's them rubbing their wings together kind of like a violin. Yeah,
who knew that? Real crickets actually kind of played a
real violin. Can you think of another animal that makes sounds? Hmmm,

(07:04):
like frogs, that's one. Oh, and cicadas kind of like
what we heard earlier. Well, friends, I will see you
on our next adventure. Bye.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
