About Mr. Jim:

Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello, Critter Protectors.

Speaker 2 (00:03):
Mister Jim here and welcome to Kids Animal Stories, a
place where there's always a mystery and adventure around every
single corner. If you love critters of all shapes and sizes,
I need you on our Critter Protector team. Join our
adventure as we learn about critters from around the world.

Speaker 1 (00:25):
And in our back yards. Well, my friends, are you
ready for today's adventure? Me too, Let's go. Carina was
a mother kinkajew living deep in the rainforest of South America.

(00:45):
She had given birth to not one, but two baby
kink atchew cubs, which was quite rare. Wait all on
a second, have you ever heard of a kink ajew.
Maybe you've heard of their other name, a honey be.
Oh that's a cool name. Do you think they like honey? Well?
These amazing critters are closely related to raccoons. They have

(01:08):
golden fur, large orange eyes, small ears, and short legs
with sharp claws on their feet.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
They're adorable.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Some people think they look a little bit more like
a monkey because they spend most of their time way
up in the trees. They have some crazy critter talents,
like being able to move their feet all the way
around one hundred and eighty degrees to grab different branches. Wow,
and they have an amazing prehensile tail, which means they

(01:37):
can use their tail like an arm at so strong. Wow.
Have you ever tried to climb a tree? It can
be pretty hard sometimes because.

Speaker 3 (01:47):
You're gonna use all your muscles to pull.

Speaker 1 (01:49):
Your way all the way up. And wow, it sounds
like Kikachu's are built to climb trees really well.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
Well.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
On this particular morning, Carina was planning something new for
her little cubs, Ross and Miles. They'd just woken up
from a full day's sleep. We're so wiggily. They had
to get some energy out. The moon was just up
in the sky and all the other Kinkajews were starting
to wake up. To wait a second, the moon and

(02:24):
they're waking up. Oh, Kikajews. They're nocturnal. They are awake
in the nighttime, which means us people who are sleeping
often we don't get a very good look of them
because they're out playing while we are asleep. Corina tied

(02:45):
up the nest and explained to the boys Miles, Ross,
listen closely. I know you're anxious to try new things
and you've been getting tired of staying close to the nest,
so today we are going on a new adventure to
the ground.

Speaker 3 (03:06):
Are you serials the ground?

Speaker 1 (03:09):
The boys shouted at the same time. You see, they'd
spent their whole cub life up in the trees, their
safe place. They were shocked that they were finally gonna
get the chance to explore the great below. Dun dundum
Karna quieted down their excitement. Now, now listen carefully, their

(03:33):
mom said, there are a few rules, and you need
to listen closely. You must be on the lookout at
all times for predators. Predators, yes, there are predators like jaguars, foxes,
or even eagles above. You also must not approach anything

(03:54):
that has two tall legs and speaks a strange language.
Did you say two tall legs in a strange language?
Miles asked, what kind of predator is that? Mom asked Ross, Well,
it's not a predator, but it is something to fear.
It's a human. Corina said, human. That sounds That sounds

(04:19):
kind of funny, Miles said. After a bit more explaining,
the cubs agreed to listen to all the rules and
obey them, and they headed down the tree.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Too, the great below.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
Can you imagine that they've lived in the trees their
entire life. They've never even touched the ground while they
explored and learned all about that ground as their mother
kept a very close eye on them and their surroundings.
After a while, Karna called the boys over. Okay, now

(04:54):
that we've done some exploring, it's now time to go
on an actual adventure. Huh, I thought this was our adventure?
Ros said, confused, Well, we have something very important to do,
but it's a little bit of a hike. Do you
two have enough energy? Yes, we do, they both shouted back.

(05:16):
They were pretty excited for this new adventure. They didn't
really even know what an adventure was, but it sounded fun.
Grinna was somewhat used to the jungle, but was still
always learning something about it. She grew up in a
different neighborhood, way on the other side of the forest,
but moved to this neighborhood when she was ready to

(05:37):
become a mother. Have you ever had to make a
big move make new friends, or maybe he had a
new person join your family or went to a new school.
Oh yeah, those big changes can be a little hard sometimes, right, well,
Kinka Jews. They live in small social groups and sometimes
even help each other out with grooming their friend. Sure,

(06:00):
Karina joined her own group when she was an adult.
It's good to have friends well. As Karina and her
cubs checked further and further away from their tree top nest,
they did start to get oh kind of tired.

Speaker 3 (06:15):
Mom, Are we there yet, Ross asked, I'm hungry and tired,
and in hungry Miles complained, We're almost there. You two
almost there. Just be patient.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Karinna encouraged them to keep on going because this was
not a good place to stop. I think it's just
over this little hill, she said, But just.

Speaker 3 (06:45):
As they came to the top of the hill, she
stopped and gasped, oh no.

Speaker 1 (06:53):
The family looked over the hill down into a small valley.
Most of the valley was covered in dirt and looked
kind of like a ruin. The only area with anything
beautiful was a small patch of flowers right on the
edge closest to them. Something tells me that this is
not what Carina was expecting. I I'm not sure what

(07:16):
she's gonna do next, but we're gonna have to wait
and see what happens on the next episode of Kids
Animal Stories. Great job, you listened all the way to
the end. Well, Kinkitchus are just the cutest thing ever there.
They have very large dark eyes, and oh they love

(07:38):
to give hugs.

Speaker 3 (07:39):
They love to hold on.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
So it's like, if you're holding a Kinkchu, it's gonna
hold on and give your arm a hug, kind of
like it was holding onto a branch of a tree. Oh,
they're so normal. Well, friends, if you love kinkachu's just
like me, you should be on our Critter Protector team.
Have your parents look down in the show notes below
where you can sign up for your very own free

(08:03):

to school. Well, friends, I hope you have a super
duper day and I will see you on our next adventure. Bye.
