Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello, friends, it's mister Jim and welcome back to Kids'
Animal Stories. I am so excited that you are a
part of the family. It means so much to me.
And do you know what makes these stories even more
fun sharing them with a friend. So right now, think
of two friends that you want to share this story with,
and then your parents can text them this story. Today,

(00:26):
we are learning about a few creatures that are not
normally uh in the same family. Well, let's go. It
was a beautiful early spring morning. The sun was just

(00:47):
starting to come up, the dew on the ground was
shining in its light, and there were a few creatures
that were waking up from a very long winter Sleepoo.
That was the yawn of a spring peeper. And this

(01:08):
one's name is Polio. Have you ever heard of a
spring peeper before? Well, I you might have heard them before.
They're very loud, little tree frogs, very small frogs h
about the size as your thumbnail. Whoa, that is very
small and that's as big as they get. And all

(01:30):
spring peepers have a big X on their back. That's
a part of their skin. It helps them camouflage into
the sticks and leaves, but it's also a really easy
way to identify a spring peeper tree frog. It's springtime,
it's spring.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
It's spring. Anybody, it's spre.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
Polo's jaw was to let everybody know that it was springtime.
It's springtime, it's spring time, it's spring. He can get
a little excited and a little noisy, but that is
his job. He needs to let all the creatures know
that it is spring. So he sings the loudest of

(02:15):
songs for all to hear. Pollio, Pullio, pollio, Please stop,
please stop, said one of the big toads.

Speaker 2 (02:30):
That toad.

Speaker 1 (02:31):
I think he already knew it was spring, but he
did not like the sound of Polio's voice that early
in the morning, as Poulio jumped all the way around
the pond he was doing his morning laps. Oh, I
just love spring. This is the best day ever. Well,
tomorrow's gonna be spring. So tomorrow's gonna be the bad

(02:53):
day and the next day and the next day. And
I love sprag spring speak sprang. Oh, hello, mister turtle,
did you know it's yes? I did, Thanks Polio. I uh,
I'm not sure if I'm ready for your songs. It's spring,
shouted Polio. Oh boy. As Polio bounded past that turtle,

(03:17):
he all of a sudden stopped and froze in front
of a tree. Wow, what are those things up been
the tree? I've never seen those before. Wait, Larry, did
you forget to put down your Christmas tree decorations? Shouted
Polio over towards the muskrat.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Pullio, why are you always so loud?

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Said the muskrat.

Speaker 2 (03:41):
No again, I never decorate. I don't like decorations, and
I don't like loud noises. Please just keep on hopping
around the pond. The muskrat crawled back into his den.

Speaker 1 (03:55):
Oh wow, I just gotta check those things out. You
see what Polio had seen. They did kind of look
like uh, ornaments on a tree, but these were different.
They were more like have you ever seen a cocoon
of a caterpillar? Kind of look like that, but they're
bigger and different. Huh. I gotta go check that out.

(04:19):
As Polio hopped up the tree, he got closer to
one of them and poked it with his toe. Whoa,
I've definitely never seen those before. Wow, and they're even wiggling.
It's like it's an eggsack of some kind there there
might be babies in there. And just then a big

(04:40):
gust of wind came out of nowhere, and whoa, holy smokes,
I guess the winter breeze is still. Oh that was cold.
Polio hopped down from the tree and started to look
for somewhere to hide and get out of that cold wind.
Oh oh, I thought it was totally spring. But maybe, Oh,

(05:03):
did the groundhog see his shadow? I gotta go ask around.
Polio didn't remember if the groundhog had seen a shadow
or not, so he went around the pond searching for
mister groundhog to ask him himself. As he was hopping
further around the pond, that windy breeze got stronger and

(05:24):
stronger and stronger. The tree that Polio had just climbed
started to rock back and forth, back and forth. The
muskrat came running out of his den that was underneath
that tree.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Everybody, take cover, she's gotta blow.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
The muskrat took off running, and Polio turned around to
look and see. Oh no ah, those cool things dangling
from that tree. They're gonna fall right in the water.
Polio started hopping back towards the tree as the tree
came crashing down, splash, right in the pond. Polio jumped
into the water to go rescue one of those things

(06:04):
that was dangling from the branches. He made it just
in time before the tree sank to the bottom. Oh,
Polio was carrying that thing in his mouth and he
was trying to drag it to the edge of the pond.
All right there. It was much bigger than Polio, so

(06:27):
it was pretty hard to swim with it, but he
finally made it to the edge of the pond. As
he laid it on the ground, that thing started to
wiggle again. Whoa, Yes, there really is something in there. Hello, Hello,
who's in there? He shouted, but there was no response.
Oh no, this is a mystery here. There's some kind

(06:48):
of creature or eggs in here. I have to figure
it out. I have got to save them, Polio shouted. This.
All right, this is more important than telling everyone about spring.

Speaker 2 (07:00):
That's I have got to save the day.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Shouted Poulio. Wow. What kind of creature did he just find?
Will Paulio be able to rescue it? We'll have to
wait and see on the next episode of Kids Animal Stories. Wow,
great job, you listened all the way to the end.

(07:25):
Woo do you remember the spring peeper. What is on
his back? Is it a circle, a triangle or an
X an X? Yes, the spring peeper. He's a tiny
little frog the size of your thumbnail. Yes, with an
X on his back, and that helps him blend into

(07:47):
the leaves and the sticks. Well, friends, I cannot wait
for the next episode so that we can find out
what is inside of that eggsac. I'll see you next time,
my friends. Bye, but

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
