Speaker 1 (00:04):
Hello friends, it's mister Jim and welcome back to Kids
Animal Stories. Today's story, we are going to continue our
adventure with Carmel the crested gecko as she's running away
from an exploding volcano. Is she going to be fast
enough to get to the other side of the island
in time? And what about Oliver banana pies? I cannot

(00:26):
wait for today's story.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Carmel the crested gecko had raced over to the other
side of the island with a lot of other creatures
who were running away from the lava. If you had
a volcano erupting near your neighborhood, what would you do.
I think I would try to get out of there
as fast as I could. And so, if I was

(00:58):
like a crested gecko, I would jump from tree to tree,
or if I was a cheetah, I would run as
fast as I could, or if I was me, I
would probably drive my car as far away from the
volcano as possible. Well, Carmel doesn't have a car, and
she's probably not big enough to drive one, so she

(01:18):
is jumping from tree to tree to tree and is
almost to the other side. Oh well, that was a
lot of running. I need to catch my breath, said
Carmel as she finally was able to look around. She
had never been to this side of the island before.

(01:38):
It was very rocky, and it was right next to
the ocean. Because remember she lives on some islands in
New Caledonia. Yeah, there's a whole bunch of islands there
near Australia that are home to all these crested geckos
and lots of other birds and creatures, and they always

(02:00):
are concerned about that volcano. Do you ever have a
fire drill at school? Maybe where you pretend that the
smoke alarm has gone off and it's beep and you
have to practice and make sure that you know exactly
what to do and you follow your teachers or your
class to the to the safe place. Yes, this island

(02:22):
they have volcano drills and so they all know exactly
where to go. Oh, all right, does.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Anyone know what's going on? Hey, Carmel, I told you right, Louri?
Is that you up there? Right? Sure? Is what's going
on down there? Right? Oh?

Speaker 1 (02:48):
Remember that was Lori? The Lori keat Laurie. I don't
know what's going on, None of us do because we're
down on the ground. Can you fly really high and
see if you can tell what's going on with the lava?

Speaker 2 (03:02):
Right? Sure can Rock.

Speaker 1 (03:06):
Louri flew very high in the sky. Isn't that cool
that birds can just fly whenever they want to? Oh? Boy,
sometimes I wish I was a bird. Was Louri flew
very high, almost to the clouds. She could see exactly
what was going on. She flew back down to tell

(03:27):
all the other creatures. Right, the lava is slowing down,
It's going right into the ocean.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Right. The good news is that we are safe here, right,
But unfortunately there are a lot of damages on the
other side. Rock.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Oh no, it looks like what Laurie is saying is
that on the other side of the island that a
lot of houses and homes of the creatures have been
damaged by the lava.

Speaker 2 (03:58):
Oh no, what about Carmel.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Carmel was very happy to learn that they were gonna
be safe on this side and they just needed to
wait for the lava to cool down, But she was
worried about what kind of damages she was going to
find on the other side of the island. The creatures
waited a few more hours and then they started to
head back. Carmel was very anxiously awaiting to see what

(04:24):
she was going to find. It felt like it took
forever for her to get back to her house, but
as she jumped from tree to tree, there, oh, there
it is. Her house was okay, her banana pie was
done and ready, but a lot of her friends needed help.

(04:45):
She was happy that her house was okay, but she
had to be there for her friends who were very sad.
Some of her Cresse gecko friends that their house got
damaged by all that lava from the volcano, and so
Carmel she had an ey idea. Okay, well, I can
definitely go over and help them start to clean up

(05:06):
and make a new home. But I can also bring
all these banana pies with me. I think that will
help cheer everyone up. Carmel needed a lot of help
from other creatures like Lori and some of the other
birds to carry all these pies to where they needed
to go, and that night, all the creatures worked together

(05:29):
to clean up all the damage and build new homes
for their friends and eat some delicious banana pie together. Wow.
What an awesome adventure. I'm so glad that Carmel and
her friends are safe. It is kind of sad though,
that her friends had their houses damaged by the lava.

(05:52):
But isn't that great when we get to be able
to help others. Yeah, and Carmel she was able to
not own help them rebuild their houses, but she was
also able to share her special deserts with them. I
want you to think about ways that you can help others.
Maybe it's your parents, or maybe it's your brother or sister,

(06:14):
or maybe it's a friend. And it doesn't have to
be a lava from volcano. It could just be something
that happens today where they just need your help. And
I want you to be like Carmel, the crested gecko
who always helps and shares what she has with her friends.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
The end.

Speaker 1 (06:43):
Great job, you listened all the way to the end.
And wow, Crested geckos are pretty cool creatures. Do you
remember what I said about them that makes them special?
About their toes? Yes, they have sticky toes and and
they're really good jumpers. Prestigecko's are really cool creatures. We

(07:05):
even have two as pets. One is named Carmel and
one's named Vanilla, and they are really fun to hold
because they're very soft and gentle. Well, friends, I hope
you have a super duper day and I will see
you next time.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Bye.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
