Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hey friends, it's mister Jim and welcome back to Kids
Animal Stories that this is your first time listening, welcome
to the family. We love critters of all shapes and sizes,
and today's episode is a mystery adventure that means there's
gonna be a critter in this story that I'm not
gonna tell you what it is, what kind of critter,
And it's up to you to solve this mystery. There

(00:26):
will be clues along the way that will help you
solve it, and we'll solve it together along the way.
Are you guys ready for today's adventure? Me too, Let's go.
Diego whacked his alarm with a few of his arms.

(00:48):
It took a few tries because he was still very sleepy.
When you wake up, what is the first thing that
you do? Do you stretch your arms and legs or
do you rub your eyes? Well, Diego had a lot

(01:09):
of those, and so he had to do a lot
of stretching, and then he rubbed his eyes and realized,
wait is today the day? Today is hollys bugs, I
gotta get out of bed. Diego jumped out of bed
and swam over to get ready for the day. You

(01:29):
see that Today was the day that he had been
waiting for for his entire life, or what seemed like
his entire life. Ever since joining the Santa Barbara Scouts
last falls, Diego had been counting down the days, the seconds,
the minutes, all of the counting to the annual Scout

(01:50):
camping trip to the Channel Islands National Park. Have you
ever gone on a camping trip before? It is super
duper fun, and Diego couldn't wait. This is his first
time ever going camping with this Scout troop. As Diego
raised down the stairs with his bag of camping supplies,

(02:14):
he was holding a lot of things in his arms.
Don't forget your beak brush, shouted his dad. Oh oh yeah,
I won't. He zoomed back up to grab it. His
beak brush was I guess important. I don't know what
a beak brush is. He must have a beak of

(02:35):
some kind. Huh. I wonder if that's a clue. Now
that Diego had all of his things ready, him and
his dad started swimming. It was gonna be a long swim,
but they're very fast swimmers, so even though it was
far away, it wasn't gonna take them very long. As
they arrived at the campsite drop off. Diego was so

(02:58):
excited to see his best friend, Karna the Crab. Hey, Carina,
how are you doing? Shouted Diego. I'm doing so good. Ah.
I've been looking forward to this trip for a very
long time, said Karna. I forgot to say bye to
my dad. Hold on, Karna. Diego rushed back to give

(03:20):
his dad their special handshake goodbye. They had worked on
this very fancy handshake for years to perfect its awesomeness.
Have you ever done a really cool handshake with someone? Yes,
well you should practice, because it takes a lot of
work to remember all the cool moves. Oops, I'm sorry, dad,

(03:41):
said Diego. One, two, three, four, five, six seven. Today
he's gonna be great. Ever since Diego was small, they
have loved doing this handshake, him and his dad on
each and every arm. Huh. I wonder why they counted
all the way to eight. That's a lot of counting.

(04:01):
I wonder if that's a clue. We'll have fun, Diego
and I will see you tomorrow. Okay, by dad? Diego
wave goodbye as he ran back to Karina. They got
to work pitching their tents. Do you know how to
build a tent. It can take a lot of work
to put all those poles together and lay out the

(04:24):
tent flat and in the right orientation, and you just
got to make sure it's all right because you don't wanna,
you know, accidentally get blown away in the middle of
the night, So you gotta stake it down to the ground,
and you gotta put that rainfly on just in case
it rains, then you'll stay dry. There's a lot of
things to consider when you're making your tent. Diego and

(04:46):
Karina's tents were built differently than ours because they were
underwater tents because they were underwater critters. But as soon
as they were done building their tents, they got to
work on having fun, building castles and collecting glowfish. Those
are kind of like the fireflies of the ocean. Attention, everyone,

(05:08):
please wash off all of your claws and hands and
arms and fins to make sure that they're all clean
for dinner time, said the scout leader Marco. Diego and
Karna stopped what they are doing so that they could
go wash up for dinner. Karina went to go wash
her claws, and Diego went to go wash all of

(05:29):
his arms, and then they sat down for a really
fun dinner. After dinner, they ended their night singing glowfish
songs and telling their favorite jokes. It was one of
the best nights ever. Have you ever had a sleepover
with friends where it's just so fun you just can't
stop laughing and having so much fun. Yeah, those are

(05:52):
the best nights that are really fun to remember. I'm
beginning giant, said Diego. Yeah, me too, said Karna the Crab.
The two friends and all the others all went back
to their own tents, laid down and fell fast asleep.

(06:18):
Sh sh all. The snoring of all the different critters
echoed throughout the water. It was a perfect beautiful night,
crystal clear water. You could almost even see the moon
up in the sky. It was time to wake up.

(06:47):
As the trumpetfish blew their horns, all the campers woke up.
All right, what are we gonna do today, Diego said Karina. Hmm, well,
I kind of saw a trail over there that looked
really fun to explore. Want to go check that out? Yes,
let's do it, said Karina the Crab. Diego and Karina

(07:11):
grabbed some water bottles started on their hike. This was
gonna be a weekend full of exploring, and they couldn't
wait to get started. Wow, this is so cool, said Diego. Hey,
do you want to go climb up those big tall
rocks up there? Let's see what's on the other side,

(07:32):
said Karina. Ooh, that does look really exciting. Yeah, let's go. Unfortunately, uh,
there were some rules that I forgot to tell you about,
some rules of this camping trip. The scout leader had
set out a map and had instricted all the campers
that they had to stay in this one certain area
and to not cross those big tall rocks. Diego and

(07:57):
Karina must have forgotten about that because they were having
a lot of fun, and that happened sometimes when you're
having a lot of fun and you kind of forget
the things that you're not supposed to do. But it
can be really dangerous if you're not remembering all those
important rules. Karina the crab was the first one up
this big tall rock. Whoa Diego, you gotta see this

(08:21):
up here, she said. Okay ah. Diego finished crawling up
those big tall rocks with his arms and finally pulled
himself up. Wow this is pretty amazing. Let's keep going,
said Diego. Karna and Diego kept on hiking. All of

(08:43):
a sudden, the water began to change. The waves were
moving and changing directions that they were going, And all
of a sudden, it happened. In the blink of an eye,
the water was gone and Karina looked at each other.
They were completely exposed, out of water, crawling around on

(09:07):
this giant rocky outcropping. Oh no, this is serious. As
they looked up in the sky, they saw something. Ah ah.
Their hearts began to race as they realized that they
were in some serious trouble. Oh no, what in the

(09:27):
world is gonna happen to Diego and Karina? Are they
completely lost? And oh no, they're gonna need to find
a place to hide so that they don't get eaten. Well, friends,
we're gonna have to wait and see what happens on
the next episode of Kids Animal Stories. Great job, you

(09:49):
listened all the way to the end. And who has
been paying attention to all the clues? Who in the
world is Diego? Let's kind of look back back at
the things that I picked up on. He brought a
beak brush. That's kind of confusing because I think he
lives in the water. Does anything in the water have

(10:10):
a beak, and they counted to eight with his dad.
Seems like he has a lot of arms and he's
friends with a crab. I don't know. I'm gonna have
to keep thinking about it, and you should too, And
I will see you on our next deadventure friends. Bye,
